I already own the game, but when I input my product key Turbine remembers my account and wants new billing info; i.e another ccard. I guess a product key is a 1 time, 1 shot deal in their system.

Noone else tried, but do you need this? If not, I'm gonna post in Steals and Deals... This may have gotten buried... I'd like to give it to someone without an account...

What kind of video card slot are you using?

I can't think of a MMO that works differently.  All of the ones I've seen have the free month that comes with buying it only work for new accounts.

Champions seems to be allowing it...

Actually it's one key per account.... So if you buy 5 retail copies, you can't get a 5 month subscription, you'd have to setup 5 different accounts...

1046  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Intermittent Wireless Signal on: August 05, 2009, 04:45:37 PM
Is it all the PC's?
Is the router G or N? If N, what frequency?
Does it disconnect all PC's at the same time?
Did you change the SSID to something unique?
Are you using encryption?
Are you using the manufacturers wireless software or letting Windows control it? (I recommend Windows)
1047  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: D&D Online Free to Play! on: August 05, 2009, 03:23:52 AM
Well, trying to use the full product to extend the subscription didn't work... frown

My loss is your gain......I'm thinking of a number 1-10. First post to guess it will get the product key in a PM. When I get home tomorrow, if noone has guessed it, I'll give it to the closest person.....
This will let you play for a month....You'll have to DL the product somewhere though. there has to be a demo out...

Playing Devil's Advocate, I am not sure about a college, but I know that the local Devry type schools do insist that you will graduate and get a $50,000 IT job...They just dont put it in writing and many people don't realize it's not true until it's too late....

I bought the lifetime sub for LOTRO and I stopped playing after a while, but I keep going back. This happens with a LOT of games for me.. I lose interest and then get it back... For $200, I'll probably end up getting this now just to have...

Is lifetime only available when you pre-order direct from Cryptic?
1052  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: D&D Online Free to Play! on: August 03, 2009, 12:18:26 PM
I think the game was made first and foremost for the tabletop players...If it wasn't true to that, they would have gotten a lot more complaints....

I picked up the full game at GS for $5 yesterday, gonna give it a try and it doesn't sound like there will be a wipe (unless I missed it somewhere), so I can get a head start...I'm also going pick up another copy and see if the product key will let me extend the subscription. If it does, I may just clean them out....I did this with the COH/COV game cards at Comp when they closed. I still have about a year or twos worth of those...

I think the disclaimer is mostly because a lot of people complained when it was found out that those survivor man type shows received help and it wasn't mentioned. Pretty much all "reality" shows have people to help.
I think Chaz is correct, it is mostly for emergencies that they help or if it looks like the people are really about to blow themselves up.

I don't think anything is added to the warehouse that wasnt there at the beginning, just the outside stuff.
Spoiler for Hiden:
As for Michael, I saw this week's episode and yes he is a dick, and yes he is trying to be a martyr, and yes he does have some useful things to say, but I think that if this was real, he would be on the way to being banished or killed by now. Take the gasifier thing (which is really neat and something I'll have to file away for the real apocolypse). He kept making a scene and saying they had a bomb and saying that just because they have engineering PHD's they think they know what they are doing....and then it does end up working and he's like, oh ok, so they got one thing working, what now?....He's a dick... I was sooo hoping his part would keep failing.... If the chip on his shoulder was a generator, they could light the city up...

Quote
For someone with limited education, he’s quite opinionated. Michael is a conspiracy theorist and complete pessimist. He claims, "I always knew there was something wrong with the world", "Nancy Pelosi is the anti-Christ", and "the space program wasn’t for exploration," implying it was to armor space for World War III.

Wow. So these are the types of people we have to deal with after the apocalypse...... I think Michael should be sent out for some supplies...alone.....

I wonder if he will bring anything to the group that's needed...

Yeah, they went from campy fun to WTH?!?!?

Can you upgrade to Win7 on Netbooks?

yes

Don't think that would be a good idea though. Most (all?) Netbooks come with XP for a reason... They just aren't very powerful...

They come with XP because Microsoft charges about $15 for Asus and other companies to put XP on them and people didn't like them much when they shipped with Linux.

Windows 7 run perfectly on my Asus 1000HE.  I've been running it since the RC released and there's been no problems.  It's just as fast as XP on mine (but I went ahead and bumped the RAM from 1 to 2GB).

Microsoft was very smart designing Windows 7 to work just fine with netbooks.
Really? I'm quite surprised at this.... Bery interesting..

1073  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Rig Killer? on: July 27, 2009, 03:26:15 AM
Finally finished build and most of the software installations/updates...

Setup Crysis on 1680X1050 16XQ antialias, everything very high...
getting between 18 FPS and 30 FPS
drop shadows to high and turn off motion blur (which I don't like anyway) and get around 25 FPS-35FPS

So even with my rig, I can't quite max it out and the montior I'm going to be using will have a higher resolution... I'll have to play with the settings I guess...
Also just to see what happens, I dropped everything to low and was getting around 140FPS. smile

3D Mark on High gets me 14,387. Fastest Closest system is 35,000+ frown I wonder if it's something I'm doing wrong....

Next will be Fallout 3 and GTA , hopefully sometime during the week.

As a side note, speaking of Fallout 3. I went and bought 2 of the DLC packs from games for Windows....but I have never done this before and can't find them. I can see The Pitt and Anchorage, which I installed off of a DVD in the FO3 folder, but not the other 2 (steel and point)

Anyone know where they should be?

1075  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Windows 7 kills hard drive #2 on: July 26, 2009, 02:53:39 AM
I would lean towards cable or MB as well. Power Supply "may" be the culprit.
I would also agree that Windows 7 is just a coincidence.
If you feel like ruling out Windows 7, get a new drive and load XP or Vista. smile
If you MB or cables are bad that could cause your symptoms. I am actually leaning towards MB or PS, because it ran for a while and then died (unless you can see and actual physical problem with the cables). If the MB or PS are bad, they could cause intermittent problems or after running for a while cause a failure.

1076  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Rig Killer? on: July 25, 2009, 06:39:20 PM
Well, between my existing games and the games that came with the MB and video card (Crysis, FarCry2, and Stalker Clear Skies)... I should be able to put it through the paces.. Also 3D Mark as well...

Loading Vista Ultimate 64 bit right now.. (Came with the MB/CPU, along with the 32 bit version)

New PC:
Intel DX 58SO MB
Intel Core i7 920 OC'ed to 3GHz for now, with a Zalman CPU Cooler
BFG Nvidia GTX 295
Seagate 1.5TB SATA
LG Blu-Ray rewriter, HD-DVD readed, CD/DVD read write SATA

This should keep me for a while....hopefully....

GTA4 really? For some reason I never even thought of that as a rig killer...
For ARMA 2, I'll probably try it with the graphics all up, but won't play it that way. The grass and what impairs my vision, but not the AI's.....
I have Crysis and was planning on that anyway, wasn't sure if there was something newer out.
I think FC2 came with my video card, I'll have to check.

That video was released weeks ago and the whole thing already explained, as Sparhawk link points out.  Those are worm colonies reacting to the light from the camera.  Those sewer pipes are so old they have cracks in them and it allows the worms to get inside.

Here's another story about the whole thing: http://www.news14.com/content/top_stories/611427/raleigh--sewer-creature--surprises-city-officials/Default.aspx
