1st off, I would get either a BFG or XFX video card. They have lifetime and double-lifetime warranties, respectively.
2nd, I think you have the wrong model#. Did you mean GA-K8NF-9? If yso, it doesn't look like it supports SLI. You should get an SLI capable motherboard in case you want to go SLI later. I currently have a DFI LanParty UT motherboard and it seems to work very well so far.
Also, depending on your budget. The 7900 512MB cards are rumored to be out within a month. But I can't be sure. I have had a 7800GTX 512MB on backorder for a customer since December. 2 of my vendors have gone from backordered, to removed from site/inventory.

His Spider sense is also enhanced, along with his other "normal" powers. For instance, he mentions that some spiders carry their young on their backs and then realizes that his wall crawling ability, really affects his whole body when he waants to. He sticks a little kid on his back while rescuing her. I believe that he also gains a form of nightvision and that he still doesn't know the extent of his powers. For the record, they are not calling them new, just saying that he wasn't aware of them/accepting of the spider totem before, so he really had these all along, but didn't know.

Also, if anyone has any specific questions about the game, I'll see what I can do to answer them. How about when you said this? Something that would be nice to have, since I am sure a lot of people start over to try other characters, is to have some way of skipping the opening story/tutorial dungeon. I can see it getting tiring after a while. I brought up that same concern on their forums and the answer everyone shot back was to just save the game right before you exit the initial dungeon before you "confirm" all your choices. Load it back up at that point and you can recreate your character as many different ways as you want without having to start from scratch. Can you not do this afterall? Now that I think about it, it should be. Right before you exit, it does ask you if you are sure about your character, so, yeah that should work, but I didn't actually try it. I still think it would be better to have a skip part, right from the new game option, but it might not be feasible, since the tutorial is part of the main quest. (I suppose they could just give you the stuff you need though). The problem with the load/save thing is that you would have to remember to do it before leaving, and I don't rememember if you could name your saves or not. (something like"End of Tutorial save")

Keep in mind the test PC provided for these previews was a 3.4 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, X1900/512Mb based system. I thought Punisher as it was only 3 Ghz, not too much of a difference. I'm already planning on adding another gig of ram to my rig anyways so I should be good. Yeah, it was a 3.4Ghz with a X1900 according to all the other sites. Yeah, it was a typo I missed, sorry. It was a 3.4

And I just wanted to say, "I consider myself a hardcore, casual gamer"?? WTF is a 'hardcore, casual' gamer? :?: I thought I explained it well enough, but I admit, it doesn't make too much sense.. Let me try again.... I figure casual gamers, play once in a while, don't usually keep up(IE: purchase) on the top technology, don't purchase too often, and play casually, ie, they don't take gaming too seriously. Hardcore gamers are the opposite..... I am right in the middle. I do keep up with the latest technology. I have two higher end systems: AMD Dual Core 4200+, 1GB RAM, 7800GT, 900GB RAID array and 600GB Raid Array AMD 3800+. 1GB RAM, 7800GTX, approx 600GB in space Plus I have 2 more systems, and all the current consoles, including the 360. I usually buy/pre-order a lot of games That is the hardcore part. The casual part is: I don't play regularly and in long spans of hours. I don't take the gaming too seriously I don't finish a lot of games Sometimes, I don't even open a game for months on end. So that's why I call myself hardcore, casual... better?

Our preview looks great but we definitely need the author's name somewhere that's easy to see. Give the boy some credit! Also the screenshot on page 2 of the preview says "Console Gold". I'm not sure what that is although I've heard of that site somewhere before... Perhaps, because it's the writers first time writing an article, he is waiting to see how it is received before putting his name on it or someone else's.. Or perhaps, because it's his first time he simply didn't realize it.

Not yet But an Oblivion trailer was just put up in the Marketplace, in 720p! Its nice, but its the trailer I saw a bajillion times at E3. Yes, I really wish it would have been something new....but it did look amazing on my TV! I can't wait to see the game in motion on my 360. Then there are the lucky studs that actually got to see the game in motion this week. Did you go to the event in Chicago? Yes, and Paul went to the one in New York. Impressions will be coming soon. I can neither confirm nor deny any possible participation in said events and have no comment until Saturday...I've done enough damage...

Besides, the day we make real AI is the day "they" take over and thus no more video games.... You sir, have been watching too much of the Matrix! The day my roomba decides to stop following orders and vacuuming my house is the day he gets trashed. However if the Roomba is any indication of what's to come in real-life AI, we're still a long, long, long way off! Matrix, terminator, any number of Sci-Fi movies. As for the Roomba..... have you ever lost any keys, socks, etc...? I'm just saying....

I think I can figure out the playable factions/sides. But the combat element doesn't look like anything we've seen before. Far more Unreal than WoW. Perhaps they're going the route SWG recently took? Personally, I'd love to see somebody pull off a "shooty" MMO. The genre could use a new play mechanic. Not that I've played them, but wouldn't Planetside or WWII Online fit that model? They are both FPS type games, but WWII Online may as well be turn based. I liked the games potential, but it moved WAAAY too slow for me...

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Lets talk about AI
|

I talked with a programmer on a message board and he said it was easier to make a good AI for a turn based game than a real time game, which surprised me. I thought the opposite was true. It was on a Master of Magic 2 forum where I proposed the main reason MoM 2 wasn't made yet was because the AI programming would be very difficult. This makes sense because the AI isn't really under a time constraint to think about what to do, whereas in an real time game, decisions have to be made instantly. I was always under the impression that AI in general is hard to code, primarily because "we" can think up a lot more crazy stuff then the computer and there is no way to think of everything wqhich could lead to problems. I remember one of the Oblivion articles talking about an npc farmer or something that would go around killing other npcs for their rakes or something like that. I thought it was funny, but can see how it could be a problem. Besides, the day we make real AI is the day "they" take over and thus no more video games....

In one of the later game levels of Sin you were mucking around in Elexis's mansion I believe and saw her in the bathroom camera doing a solo number on herself. Yes, and using cheat codes you could walk through the walls to the actual live event and get different angles and such....so I heard....

Have they ever announced the pricing? I'm not sure what I'm willing to pay for 3-6 hours of content, but I've heard talk of $20 a pop and that's too high.
As an aside, "Jessica Cannon" is a porn star name. Given the first game's near-legendary easter egg, I wonder if they intend to continue to push that with this series. Probably not after Hot Coffee....

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / What Antivirus software do you use?
|

Norton System Works for about 6 years now.
I have never had a virus (Knocks on wood) Just an FYI. I get this a lot from my customers. 1) NO anti-virus is perfect. 2) There is a possibility that you do have a virus on your system without knowing it. Not all viruses are destructive and many trojans would not want to do anything to bring them to your attention. 3) We were doing a virus sweep for a company with several locations. We had to sweep their personal laptops because the service porvider was shutting them down due to virus issues. Many had AV software on their systems. Symantec, McAfee, etc... all of the "mainstream/retail" software. Many of these did have viruses on them anyway. Many of these were the 60 day trial version they got 3 years ago and thus hadn't been updated since then. One particular person I remember, gave us a hard time because he didn't want us touching his personal system because "you guys always screw up my laptop". Since we had never touched his laptop before, I don't know how this would be possible. Also his son "works on computers for a big company and setup his laptop and cleans it regularly". His system did not have ANY AV software, only the free version of Zone Alarm. We explained that if he didn't let us scan his system, he wouldn't be allowed to use the network anymore. He said fine and took his laptop. He went and complained to the Mgr and thankfully they backed us up. He came back 2 hours later and in a huff gave it to us and said we wouldn't find anything. As you can guess we found stuff on his laptop. In fact he had the most hits from the virus/adware/spyware software we ran. Approx 450 hits for virus and 600+ for spyware adware. I wish I knew where his son worked because there is probably a position available. I have found viruses on my system before as well. But since I do clean it regularly, they don't hit me as hard.

Thanks - I'll have to try that. I think it was on 75 with the onboard and now it's on 85. I'm not even sure what refresh rate means but I'm assuming higher is better? Higher is generally better, however both the video card and monitor need to support it. You may get a better picture with a lower refresh rate.

My company has been trying out Nod32 for about 2 months. Seems very good so far, but there may be some instances of false positives.
As an example I got a virus warning while downloading the RF beta and LOTR beta from fileplanet yesterday.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Cop tells airman to get up, airman gets up & is shot

Now I know why this area of the forum is labeled 'off topic' I honestly think a thread could be started on shoelaces and by page two it would have devolved into "Bush is bad" "No he isn't" "Yes he is" It's a pretty bizarre and increasingly common phenomenon around here. Heck if I understand it. Bush>Oil>Plastic>those plastic tips on shoelaces..... Pro Bush: If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have shoelaces, our shoes would fall off and we would have to walk around barefoot. (This can also then start an argument about wether he is pro/con automobiles if he wants us to walk) Anti Bush: Because of him we have shoelaces and thus shoelace related injuries, such as tripping and strangling. (This can also than start an argument on healthcare for the injuries and the death penalty for strangulations...) Take any topic and do a 6 degrees of separation for Bush....

high quality voice data takes a lot of space, hi-res textures take a lot of space... I imagine those are the biggest contributors.
That first 40MB hard drive I had in 1991, let's see the Oblivion install would span about 118 of them... it would take 3.35 million 1.44MB floppies to install... and you thought Windows 3.1 took a lot of floppies. I think it would actually take approx 3272 floppies, if it was on compressed. 1GB is around 1024MB so 4.6GB should be around 4711MB divide by 1.44MB and you get approx 3272, so not as bad as you think.

The audio is hard to understand, but I do think that I heard the cop say "okay, get up, get up", and not something like, "DON'T get up, DON'T get up." And that's not sarcasm, because I was curious to see - or hear, I guess - if it was a miscommunication between the two.
I think that the title of the video, "Pig shoots American hero attempting to comply with orders," is ridiculous though. I will agree that the audio is bad, but I do think it's possible the cop said "don't" . I played the audio over and over and it almost sounds like an audio edit. like someone looped "get up". The way it is being said doesn't sound natural to me. It also kinda sounds like the g in get up is cut off at the beginning which would happen if someone did try to edit out don't. The stupid censor sounds don't help matters. Also, I can't see it being normal for any officer in that position asking a suspect at gunpoint to get up. Also, (and this alone doesn't justify a shooting), the airman's tone was beligerent and aggressive. As a security officer "with more time then the cop" he should have known to not be aggressive and to just quietly comply with the officer (although it does appear that he tells his friend to be quiet).

You both might be better off just upgrading your current system.....
What Video slots do both PC's have? I'd happily upgrade...but dell wants more money than the laptop is worth to *replace* my current one and give me a new laptop. There is (according to them) no way for me to purchase and install a new video card on my laptop (it used to support an ATI Radeon 9800...). Ahh, didn't know it was a laptop. they are correct though. I "think" Alienware makes a laptop that has an upgradable video card and "maybe" the Dell XPS, but I'd have to check mine.
