punisher, that idea always scares me. Only time I ever do a clean install is when something breaks icon_biggrin  Or this last time when I actually built my own rig. That was fun! Until the MOBO drivers that came on the DVD from ASUS were corrupted and loaded then turned off all of my USB's. Considering my keyboard and mouse are USB it took me a while to figure out how to get back in to fix it.
It can definitely be scary if you are not used to it. I've been in IT for over 20 years so it's old hat now, but I can definitely see a difference in performance. I know some people that will do a nice clean install, update Windows and all drivers, then make an image of the PC if they need a clean install later on..
If you make sure to download and save the network card and video card drivers prior to the clean install it helps a lot. With those 2 you can get online and download other things you need and also look online for help.

I will say that if you are up for it, a clean install is better than a clone. Over time Windows gets all messy and a nice clean install helps. I generally try to do one every 2 years give or take.

I wonder if this is the next VHS/BetaMax thing where there will be one "winner" and whoever picked a loser is SOL.. I'd like to think that if so, I picked the winner with the Vive and Valves backing, but would like to see 100% cross compatibility though.

Oh shit, Sherlock Holmes is this week? I'm going to have to buy that one, but I kind of want to wait until I have my new GTX 1080 first. Got a new 27" 144Hz monitor, and want to use it for all its worth.

Btw, are we going to have a VR section here? Edge of Nowhere came out for the Oculus Rift today, after all.
A VR section would be nice. Just need to make sure we list which VR platform its for. I just picked up an HTC Vive over the weekend, so no go for Edge of Nowhere for me.

Cripes, there are so many Warhammer games these days I didn't even know that one existed.
Thats an older turn based one. been around for a couple of years now but they keep adding content.

It's a decent turn based game.

In the campaign you reach checkpoints during the levels where the game saves and if you exit that is where you restart, you can't just save at any point.  You can go back and replay any level to pick up missed items if you want but all the monsters will have respawned.  One thing I ran into was reaching certain checkpoints in a level and not being able to go back to earlier sections due to doors closing behind me and so not being able to get items I missed unless I restart the entire level.
ah ok. So if I think I need to cut the game short, it is best to do so right after I get a checkpoint saved notice it sounds like. I'll have to keep an eye on that then. Not sure where I left off..
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: DOOM on: May 23, 2016, 02:39:12 PM
So... I haven't loaded a save game yet since I only played once so far for a little while... How does it work? Based on your posts it sounds like you can't stop and save in the middle of a level.  Is that accurate?

My only "complaint" is about the hugeness of the levels.  It creates a similar problem that I had with the recent Wolfenstein games where I really love it, but I need to make sure I set aside enough time to play through a level in one go (or at least where I know I'll be able to follow up the following night).  If you stop midway through, you have to kind of get back into the flow of the map, which can actually add a lot of time to the next play.

I know it's not really fair to complain about that, but it makes it hard to jump into the game sometimes.

So far I play it in little sessions and haven't had an issue with the largeness of the levels.  I haven't really felt lost yet.  I just clear a few waves and quit and return when time permits to do the same.  That being said, I only just now made it to level 6.

Maybe it's just me.  I remember doing the foundry and coming back to it even the next day, scratching my head trying to figure out where I was and where I'd been.

Are you aware that the map sort of shows you where you have been and not been?

Star Trek: Beyond  newest trailer

I like this trailer. It looks far more 'Star Trek', at least compared to the first one.

Oh, yeah, much better.  Now I'm actually interested.

With the angles they used, I can't be sure that was the right ship, but if so, what is the deal with making the Enterprise die in the third movie each time?!

Plus, why did they show us that in the trailer???
I suspect that it is right in the beginning of the film this time.

Not sure if you've tried this, but discharging your Pc can fix a lot of these problems. Unplug PC power, hit power button, plug power back in and turn in.
This is different from restarting the PC or even unplugging and plugging back in. hitting the power button forces the power to be discharged. If you have the case open, you can sometimes see the fan kick in for a bit.

Such an odd experience for me watching FTWD where not only do I not care about the majority of the characters, in most cases I am hoping they will die.  Definitely makes for a much less stressful experience.
I wouldn't say I don't care about the characters, but I definitely haven't grown attached to them, so I agree about the stress part.

I'm still a little confused/leery on just exactly what the escalation was between just regular zombie activity and suddenly everything blowing up and on fire.  I was really hoping for a more gradual development, but I suppose having a sudden collapse is more exciting to watch.  I just don't see zombies setting things on fire and blowing shit up.  I realize some of it was military sanctioned, but certainly not all the small fires that seemed to spawn all over the place.
It is almost like they just assumed more fire= cooler... I don't recall anything at the end of last season to explain the fires near the house especially.

I wonder how that is going to work for the rest though.. do they show up for work one day and get told "Oh, you didn't get the memo?"
at this point in the comics we know who gets it, but comics wise there is a lot of canon fodder available as there are multiple people that are gone from the comics by now (or not even in them)
IIRC in the comics, this scene only had 4-5 people in it.

Don't kid yourself, the suits don't give a shit how these movies do here.  They're dumbing these things down on purpose.  Less dialogue=less to get lost in translation.
I don't think that was the problem with this movie.  It wasn't dumbed down so much as bloated up.  As Punisher said it was more like they tried to mesh 3 movies into one.      Introduction to Justice League.  Death of Superman.  Batman vs. Superman.  Any one of these would have made a strong movie on its own, but they clearly wanted to jumpstart the franchise to compete with Marvel.  Should be interesting to see if the strategy pays off for them over the long haul.  Personally I'm enjoying the DC TV series universe(s) more than these endlessly "dark" movies.
This^^
The problem is they jumped right to Captain America Civil War and are working their way backwards. which doesn't make sense. Civil War will have an impact because we saw how they all grew together.
Even the Dark Knight series was well after they had worked together. Too much, too soon and a horrible Lex Luthor...
They could have just had a doomsday movie and still found a reason for batman and wonder woman to be in it...
or even a small confrontation in the beginning with bats and supes.

My wife's birthday is on Sunday and she has stated that she will not watch Sunday's episode until Monday so that her birthday isn't ruined.
She already knows that I know something is coming up, but I couldn't honestly say to who.. There is enough divergence from the comic to make it anybodies guess...
Daryl isn't in the comic, Carol has been gone from the comic for a while now, as mentioned, Glenn gets it in the comic, etc...
I am thinking it has to be Glenn, Daryl, Carol, or Abraham.. by the end of the episode they are at a point in the comic where all 4 are already gone...

My wife and I saw it over the weekend and overall enjoyed it...
I agree with a lot of people who felt Lex was mis-cast. I like Jesse, but this wasn't a role for him. I don't blame him though, because on top of this, I don't think that the role was written too well. It did come across as Luthorjokery... Luthor is supposed to be intelligent and cunning, not a nut job...
I also felt like they crammed too many different movies into one and it wasn't needed. Bats and Supes did not need to start off as adversaries.. they could have worked to that over a few different movies.
I thought that Affleck did fine as Bats and Wayne. My wife wasn't a fan, but for some reason she's not a fan of him in general except partially in Dogma.

I won a complete set of graphical discs from 3D World. I think it was about $400 worth of discs.

Is Division at all like, Metro:Last Light?

Any screens I've seen, remind me of Metro's look...

It's got the following which is similar:

- City is in a bad way
- Environment is very detailed and lived in feel
- You fight other gangs which each have their own distinct feel to them
- You get glimpses of how difficult life is from the few NPCs you see wandering around or huddling about

But a the big differences:
- It's a covered based shooter (ala Gears of War)
- No supernatural elements
- RPG elements (leveling up / crafting / multiplayer co-op/pvp)

I wouldn't immediately make a connection between the two after have playing both. But I would say UbiSoft has created as detailed a world as 4A Games. You'll find yourself going through apartments and given the details of what went in to making those apartments you can put together of what might have happened there - e.g. it didn't end well, or the people living there made a good go at it. There's some nice moments in The Division you come across.

Yeah,
I expected the usual cookie cutter apartments and while there is some repetition in layouts, the extra stuff does change in some instances.. In some, you'll see stock piles of food (which you can't grab), in others you'll see clothes thrown around like they left in a hurry, in others you get the sense they were victims of a home invasion, etc..

Yeah, I've been playing on and off. mostly weekends though. I saw Engine online the other day and it was weird. He showed up on radar but I couldn't see him when I got close. Guess it's supposed to be that way?
Had a cool weather affect last night though. First time in a Blizzard with really low visibility... Looked cool.
I also have not gone dark yet and I'm only level 10 right now.
