On the offchance you haven't seen this:

I owned most of them back in the day.  In fact, I came home with Sindbad and the Throne of the Falcon (and Silent Service) on the day I bought my amiga 1000 in '86 (?), I think it was

I wonder if we'll see any creativity from Cinemaware in this era .. so far they're like a 50's doo-wop band touring on their past fame

they were, perhaps, the most creative back then

I think if they just re-recorded the voice-over they could save it .. even tho' he had the requisite parched\gravelly voice, he never really hit the right cadence

it comes across as bland as zombie flesh without salt

I jumped on the FREE copies of FALLOUT1+2+tactics at the end of the year (created an account to do so) and had several other games in my library .. including:

Beneath a Steel Sky
Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire
Ultima™ 4: Quest of the Avatar
Tyrian 2000
Treasure Adventure Game

So .. I would imagine they are all still free if you GOGle their page
6  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / GOG - DRM-FREE time machine sale (countdown) on: January 28, 2014, 08:28:15 PM

this time you can uptick\downtick the clock .. as opposed to, you know, writing bogus rave-reviews in order to get an undesirable game to fly off the shelves to internet noobs on the recommendation of more savvy internet ne'er-do-wells

like the last countdown sale

not that I was going to bite, since I've already pieced together 90% of it ... but, had that not been the case .. look out!

A new announcement from the Spike TV VGX awards, airing today, indicate that Telltale Games has officially gotten its hands on Gearbox Software's popular Borderlands franchise. To the delight of Borderlands and zombie fans alike, the company is planning to produce a new episodic video game based off the Borderlands universe.

16  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Euro Truck Simulator 2 on: October 17, 2013, 09:53:04 AM
ETS2 has received patch version 1.6 and includes the ALPHA launch of worldoftrucks

We are happy to announce that World of Trucks web is available for public!

In order to activate the communication between Euro Truck Simulator 2 and World of Trucks your game must be updated to the latest version 1.6.

The most notable 1.6 game features and improvements are:

Photo Studio - includes Photo-mode and Screenshot Manager allowing upload of your best screenshots to World of Trucks
Online profiles - ability to connect your profile to your World of Trucks account
New Iveco Stralis Hi-Way sounds recorded from actual truck
    Individual air-horn sounds
    Realistic fuel consumption option
    Adaptive automatic transmission option
    Shorter jobs generation probability increased
    License plate changes fixed

To make is easier on our download servers and your nerves, initially we will start by offering just the torrent links before we get download mirrors up and running.

If you are a Steam user, it is much simpler, the game in Windows as well as Linux incarnation will be updated automatically - the new version is immediately available in Steam library.

We hope that you enjoy this alpha and that it will whet your appetite for upcoming updates in the World of Trucks universe!

ninja If you're interested .. here's Squirrel's YouTube overview of 1.6 .... with mention of 1.7 before Oct-31 (Volvo Pumpkin, anybody?) .. and the new Traffic AI in 1.8

I used to have this on my wall in the 70's
17  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Temple of Elemental Evil on: October 14, 2010, 07:31:50 PM

Back in the day, when I played this, shortly after release .. I had NO CLUE how to build a D+D party.  So I used the Neutral Good Party guide at - ToEE - Walkthrough ... just open a page for each character name mentioned .. you have info for each level-up, points and feats

Spoiler for Hiden:
My first time through, I didn't realize there was a character editor (for attrib rolls) included in the root dir .. so I just tried to get my rolls close to the recommended #'s  crybaby .. (you create the chars in advance so they are selectable at party creation, IIRC)
(regarding attrib rolls)

As my party progressed I could see exactly what the author mentions for feats coming into the own, (cleve, etc) as levels\attribs caught up.  Without this reference I surely would have gimped my party ...

Note: avoiding that which you feel is a spoiler at the above link is left as an exercise for the reader ..

 eek .. Mount&Blade version 0.900 is out!

Quote .. Version 0.900 is finally ready. This version adds many new quests, a brand new map, lots of new villages and castles, books, AI improvements, gameplay changes and much more!

As usual, we release this version to you, our forum community before the general public, because it no doubt has its share of bugs and glitches and with your help and feedback we hope to fix those.

All members of our team worked very hard for this version. Our art team painstakingly modeled and furnished many new and great looking environments, Cem has implemented many new features and also added some AI code at the last minute, making the AI so much more effective and fun to fight against. Tassilo keeps perfecting and polishing the sounds. And Steve not only helped this version but he will have an exciting surprise for you very soon.

Finally, many thanks to mtarini for developing the method for creating good looking mountain ranges. He has developed many great improvements as part of TLD map beautification project and has a special surprise of his own as well.

19  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Titan Quest Expansion on: March 20, 2007, 09:24:51 AM
If anybody is interested ... TQ VAULT was upgraded on Mar. 18th to support Immortal Throne

also .. the beginnings of Item stats + (char. lvl, str, dex, int) ..

also ... TQ-Mon is no longer needed, as the devs removed the character check

it DOES, however, twitch like a hyperactive kid on meth (screen refresh issues)

so far, for me .. as stable as the previous version ( thumbsup )

TQVault 2.11

also .. TQ Portable v2.0B Test 3 .. (BETA) ..

QUOTE ... First official release of the software with limited IT support. Currently supports the following for Bman’s mods: Infinite Potion Stacking, Relics In All, and Show All Damage for all versions of Titan Quest from 1.01 to 1.30. Also Immortal Throne 1.10!
20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Just installed DivDiv... on: May 16, 2006, 12:43:11 PM
It's been a while since I've played it .. I DID enjoy it, but didn't finish it

Diablo is one of the few games that did classes right (IMHO) .. forcing you into a skill set .. and playing the game differently based on those skills .. some of the later patches seemed to have added cross class abilities based on equipment you might find

Div-Div .. allows a sword-wielder to throw fireballs if they wish ... choosing a class, such as MAGE will give you a boost to your Intelligence\Mana ... choosing WARRIOR will give a boost to strength, possibly +1 to sword skills ... etc .. (I played a fireball chucking swordie .. conjuration is helpful for tank and distraction)

there are some quest related bugs .. and you should try and find forums that address these

 I have a feeling that you're far enough into it by now that I didn't tell you anything you haven't figured out

I played only 5 minutes of BEYOND DIVINITY .. div-div 2 is a wait and see because of that

Well .. this is the first time I've seen this 'tester' .. is this new?

first time I ran it .. it said .. "You Lucky Dog .. we wish we had a system like yours"

and I'm, like .. Huh?

So I run it again .. FAIL .. mostly because of harddrive space it seems .. that should really be a "we recomend you free up some damn space boy"

2.8ghz Pentium 4 HT (didn't like it)
1.5 GB RAM
ATI 9800pro 128MB
DELL onboard audio etc
WinXP Home SP2 (didn't like it)

so I'm assuming the tester needs to have some bugs worked out

The Question: .. What IS the deal with Duke Nukem Forever?

The Answer: .. Buy two pre-orders and get the third free .. but you have to take delivery of the game before Jan. 1, 2006 .. or you forfeit your cash

All in all a good deal since you'd be supporting the dev's and funding the development of a AAA title

My last CD Burner was a 'Lite-On' and I've had no complaints with it

I didn't know that about the speed rating .. That was basically why I was asking in the first place, I wasn't sure where that fit in the feature set department

I've come to realize I should have gotten one with my last system purchase .. but I felt CD's were still viable ... This will just be for DATA archiving and storage .. and I'm up to my neck in Burned CD's

I don't need Uber-Leet Bleeding edge .. I just don't want to get something I'll have to replace in a year .. For example .. Comp-USA had a 16x Double Layer internal (MFR unknown) for $49.99 in their last ad .. not sure if it burns CD's as well

Is that what I need .. ?? .. and is that price in-line with the going rate .. ??

I'll shop around a week or so once I know what I'm looking for

31  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Dell 9100 deal - Frame Rates and possible upgrades? on: August 24, 2005, 12:16:34 AM
In before the move slywink

and ... Memory upgrades thru DELL are going to be twice the money ... if you mean upping from 512 to 1024 is going to cost $100.00.  The only benefit of doing this is the two sticks they sell you initially will be 512 MB .. instead of the 256'ers you will get otherwise

Pop into CRUCIAL or KINGSTON to check memory prices

You might be better off getting the DVD burner and Memory from New egg or something

I just added a gig of ram to the existing dual 256'ers DELL installed at about 123.00 shipped from New Egg (kingston re-directed me there for the sale)

I have a DELL 8300 and it has 4 memory slots .. 2 of which contained 256MB sticks ... I had to install in groups of two (to maintain dual channel functionality or something) .. so I opted to go a full GIG now rather than chuck memory later (ie .. sell to my brother)

33  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dungeon Siege II: Anyone care? on: August 04, 2005, 05:06:33 PM
Does DS2 have different levels of loot

Yes ... and even enchantable and set items

and ... Yes .. you can save anywhere (Ctrl+S) ... but only the one save spot (you "might" re-load in the closest town though, I think I read that somewhere)

The loot system strikes me as being better than DS1 (although it's been awhile since I played it)

When you factor in the "Difficulty Selection Screen" .. that you have to be a certain character level to qualify for .. 1-30 .. 31-50 .. (or whatever the scale is) ... then it stands to reason that there is loot available for those higher ranks as well

Character development is better fleshed out ... but not necessarily as well as Diablo-2 tree

but ... party contol seems to be a choice of RAMPAGE = attack at will on your own ... or ... MIRROR = attack what I attack

I wasn't successful selecting One party member and moving them away from the party to set up a tacticle ambush ... etc

Party size is strangely dependent on UNION rules ... you have to have paid the inn-keeper a fee to enlarge your party to 3, 4, 5 etc .... so if you come across a lone warrior standing along the path (ala Dungeon Siege 1) you won't be able to recruit them if your union card says "a party of two" ... and your dance card is full

*** My views are based on the PCGamer Disc "Beta" .. and is at least 2 months old due to magazine lead time

Well, Dungeon Siege (stand alone?) expansion did that .. and all it taught me was to wait for the expansion and get the original for free

on one level I understand what you're saying .. but they (dungeon siege) rewarded people who didn't buy the original game .. and not the ones who did buy the game (and making the expansion possible)

but ...
