Ugh.  Next you're going to tell me that it's not even that overcast, as it's only been two weeks since you last saw sunlight.  I'm still wearing shorts and taking my dog to the park to go swimming, leaving the windows open at night and enjoying lunch at outdoor cafes.

I might freeze to death.

Very nice setup Pete.

Thanks!  It has taken a lot of time to amass and develop, but we are very pleased with the end result.  We absolutely love the Fireball and associated DVD changers as we now no longer have shelving needs for so many DVDs, our living room looks very clean and organized without hundreds of DVDs on walls of shelves, and browsing movies is a breeze because everything is organized electronically.

What part of Pittsburgh will you be in, that is my neck of the woods...

My wife's family lives in Aliquippa.  We'll be staying with my wife's parents for the week, getting our Primanti's fix, stopping by Quaker Steak while out shopping, and drinking as much Yuengling as I can get my hands on as you can't get the stuff in Arizona.

I live in Imperial, about 10 minutes from Aliquippa.  So you will be hitting up the Robinson area for Quaker Steak and Primantis... ah the life heh.

Yep, plenty of shopping in Robinson, especially for Quaker Steak, and I'm not sure where we usually go for Primantis.  They seem to be popping up everywhere in the suburbs, but I know there's one nearby and I think that's where we're headed immediately after we land this evening.

There is a Primantis not far from the Quaker Steak, within about 5 or 6 miles.  If you head through Robinson towards Crafton, it is just past the on ramps for 79 if that makes any sense heh.  (Pittsburgh roads are horrible to navigate)

Crafton sounds familiar.  That's most likely where we usually go (unless we're dan-tan, then we go to the original).  I'm from the Philly area, so I don't know Pittsburgh that well, but my wife grew up there are can easily find our way to the nearest Primanti's.  Man, I'm really looking forward to that sammich, accompanied by an ice cold Lager.  Althought the cold weather I could do without (it's sunny and 75 degrees here in Phoenix).

There's only one thing on my list this year.  A second Sony 400-disc DVD changer.

I currently have one 400-disc changer and an Escient Fireball to organize my collection, but my existing changer has already reached capacity, so I'll be adding a second to continue housing my ever-growing DVD collection.  The silver unit on the top left shelf is the existing 400-disc changer, with the Escient Fireball alongside, and you can see an open space to the right of the Escient just waiting for the second 400-disc changer (I knew a second would be an inevitability, so I planned ahead when positioning my components).  Then I should be set for a while before having to add a third.  The Fireball can handle up to three 400-disc changers, but it's going to be a while before I fill that second changer.

I may get some other odds and ends for Christmas, but this is the only item on my list that is a must-have.

While in Pittsburgh for the Thanksgiving holiday my wife and I are going to handle our Christmas shopping for friends and relatives so that this year we don't have to ship anything or carry anything with us onto the plane.  We made the list yesterday, so our mission is set, and our shopping trip should be clean, precise, and efficient, leaving me plenty of time to fire down excessive amounts of Yuengling with my father-in-law for the rest of the Thanksgiving break.

That is unfair.  You only think that because I've never shown photos of my stuff.

gellar

I've posted a few pictures at Octopus Overlords of some of my newest toys (such as my DVD changer and Fireball organization system), but even my spending habits are dwarfed in comparison.  Granted, I might be able to potentially spend on the level of Hetz, but I'm not sure I want to, especially when seeing some of the "gems" he has on his shelf.  Stealth in high definition and a copy of Madden 07 for each console?

Is it a "I buy it because I can" scenerio, or did you really feel the need to buy a copy of Stealth on DVD, or multiple copies of the same game(s)?  I'm sure Stealth is better in HD, if only for the visuals, but a turd in HD merely allows you to see all of the detail of the corn.  Ultimately it's still a turd.

I'm curious why the awe inspiring and yet seemingly superfluous collection?  I have a fair number of toys, but even I find reasons to draw a line somewhere.

My questions aren't really meant to be condescending or to mock your envious collection, but I'm merely trying to understand your reasoning, and am rather curious.  For example, I look forward to filling my 400-disc DVD changer so that I can add a second changer to my Escient Fireball system, but I don't want to fill said changer merely for the sake of adding another, so if Stealth were the final DVD to fill the first changer and justify a second, I'd still wait for a better film to come out before continuing on with my collection.

I was thinking the same thing. Again, like you, not putting down Hetz, he's a buddy on here, but 3 versions of Madden? Ridge Racer for the PS3? Hey, if he has the cash and doesn't have kids or a spouse, or just has the income to cover it all, no big deal, kudos to him.

I have a wife and kids and have the income to cover it all....but this is getting way off topic. I thought this might happen when I posted the pics...people are so predictable. Anyway, no more pics from me. You guys win. I'm going to go enjoy my PS3.  icon_biggrin

Well, in all honesty, I think folks were more interested in pics of the PS3, not necessarily your backlog of PS2 and Gamecube titles and DVD collection.   icon_wink

Also, my own comments weren't meant to be malicious, and I truly am rather curious about your collection, especially since my home theater purchases have been questioned ad nauseum as well, and my purchases pale in comparison.  There are some things even I won't buy.  As much as I'd love a copy of every movie on DVD, I know that it would be a waste of resources and space if I were only to watch a film once.  I don't think the derailment is a product of member predictability, per se.  Granted, there is some envy involved, but I do see why some would question your choice of photos when the topic at hand is the PS3.  If someone asked me to post a picture of my puppy, and I began with photos of the Ferrari I brought him home in and the mansion in which he resides, I would expect some backlash to some extent (this is just a hypothetical example, as Simba was brought home in a Hyundai and lives with my wife and me in a townhome).

Trust me, I can appreciate your home theater mecca.  However, if my setup is considered excessive, then I'm speechless when viewing photos of yours.  I guess I'm not helping at all.

What's the point of having a superfluous collection if you can't show it off to people on the internet.  To me having Steath on HD DVD and posting a picture of it on the internet in just like saying, "Look I have more money to spend than you do and I need to prove it to you."  I'm not sure why posting pictures of those things helps to prove he has a PS3.  But whatever.

I'm not so sure it's a "I have more money than you and I want to flaunt it" scenerio, if only because I've posted pictures of excessive toys as well (at OO), not necessarily to show off, but to share a level of excitement that only other audio/videophiles can appreciate.  I'm just curious as to whether a line exists that demarcates when enough is finally enough, or if Hetz's electronic purchasing powers are limitless.  If so, I'm even more jealous now than I was a few minutes ago.   icon_wink

If I send out invites and don't get a response, I too read it as, "thanks but no thanks, maybe next time."  No problem.  Sometimes I get invites that I am unable to accept, either because I'm playing with someone else or because I'm involved in a single-player game.  I hope that others view my lack of response in the same manner, "thanks but no thanks, maybe next time," and I even sometimes send a note later that apologizes for my lack of respone and perhaps we can hook up in the future.

Enjoy it to all those that get it.  I'm pretty happy with my 360 at the moment and I probably won't get a PS3 for quite abit.  The older I get the more I can't justify the cost unless I had alot of disposable income

For me it's not necessarily the cost, but the time.  I don't have enough time to play the games I currently own for the 360, not to mention a rather hefty backlog of games for the orignal Xbox and the PS2.  If I were to add another console to the mix I'd have to quit my job.  And I just haven't seen anything about the PS3 that makes it a must-have, at least for me.  Perhaps someday.  But that day is definitely not today.

The demo didn't sell me completely but made me think about picking it up someday. I was disappointed in how poor the civilians are animated and their AI. Whats the point in saving them if they are all act alike drones.

If I swoop by I want them to be pointing and gasping, "Look up in the sky"! But I landed in a patch of them and they all just shambled by at the same snail pace. Reminded me of spiderman too. BORING!

That's strange Scoop because when I landed near them they were like "Hey, look its Superman!" and "Go Superman!" and "Superman!" are few of the ones I heard no matter where I landed in Metropolis.  And the best part was after I creamed those robot things all the people in the vicinity were clapping and cheering and the music was triumphant.  It "felt" like Superman to me.  The flying is fantastic especially when you break through the sound barrier, which is really cool.

I loved the demo and can't wait to get the game next week.

Superman isn't a true superhero.  He's an alien.   icon_wink

6784  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Casino Royale Impressions on: November 17, 2006, 05:37:30 PM
Over at Octopus Overlords I've been defending for months the acting prowess of Daniel Craig and his casting for the role of Bond based on his role in Layer Cake, explaining how for the first time ever I'm almost unbearably excited for a Bond film, calling Casino Royale the Batman Begins of the Bond franchise, and now people are finally seeing what I've been talking about since the orignal casting selection.  Now that the reviews are in people are finally buying into the hype and changing their tune about Craig.  For months I've heard how he's just not fit to play Bond, either that he's too blond, not attractive enough, not charming enough, etc.  But, those who have seen Layer Cake are aware of his potential based on that role.

My point?  I don't really have one, other than that I am beyond excited for this film, and I'm happy to see Craig being lauded as one of the best Bonds to date.  My favorite aspect of his portrayal of the character?  That he's a tough Bond like Flemming originally intended, which is perfectly established in a particular scene involving a martini I've read about in a recent review.

Minor spoiler:

Spoiler for Hiden:
When Bond is asked how he would like his martini, shaken or stirred, he quickly snaps, "Do I look like I care?"

Perfect.   icon_biggrin  Finally a Bond that doesn't look more at home getting a manicure than behind a gun.

I have always vowed not to join another forum as I already devote excessive amounts of time to the Octopus Overlords forum (and some may remember me from the GoneGold days), but after having enjoyed yet another fantastic evening of multiplayer gaming with some of the GT clan (papasmurf, JarrodHK, and perhaps a few others I'm forgetting at the moment), and having been lurking for quite some time, I would be remiss to continue to avoid joining GamingTrend due to time constraints when I could be broadening my Xbox 360 Friends list with even more fantastic people to enjoy multiplayer gaming with.

My main reason for joining is the popularity of multiplayer gaming both here and at Octopus Overlords, the obvious camaraderie you all seem to have together, and having already enjoyed meeting new people from GT just through common Friends (such as JarrodHK who also frequents both GT and OO), I figured now is as good a time as any to become a participating memeber here at GT, if only to meet new Friends to chainsaw and curbstomp to death (or, perhaps it would be more accurate to say "to be chainsawed and curbstomped to death").

So for those who are sometimes looking for an additional teammate or enemy fodder, feel free to add PhillyPeteRock to your Friends list.  I currently have Gears of War, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, PGR3, Madden 07, and Test Drive: Unlimited in my multiplayer library, as well as classics such as Halo 2 (which I still play with friends from the Philly area), so hopefully I'll be able to become an active member here, both on the forum and in terms of online play.
