4  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Stuck in Total Overdose (Xbox). Bug? on: February 04, 2007, 09:39:05 AM
Kasey Chang over at OO said something about having to go outside the stands (and if I understood him right in his post, the whole stadium) in order to get back in and access the bullring through "another set of offices."  Is that how it works?

Believe me, I've tried just jumping over the fences at the bottom of the stands, it just doesn't work.
5  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Stuck in Total Overdose (Xbox). Bug? on: February 04, 2007, 01:53:32 AM
I'm playing the Xbox version of Total Overdose, so I hope I haven't run into a platform-specific bug. Basically, I'm doing the "Kill the Bull" story mission, and for the life of me I can't find a way down into the bullring (that what's her name--the hottie cop--points out to you when you enter the stands) so I can confront Morales' special goons. I get into the stands and deal with all the baddies there, but don't find any way to get into the bullring/bullpen. The Gamefaqs PS2 FAQ says there should be an open door in the stands somewhere, but obviously I'm missing it (or there's a bug, which sucks). I've found the door that opens to the save point that you find on your way up the stairs to get into the stands, but no other door is open (well, besides the one that takes you to the zip line way up high).

Any help will be greatly appreciated-- also, if you've played another version and found a way into the bullring, please enlighten me. TIA, Josť aka Papageno
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Must-have mods for X3 Reunion? on: December 10, 2006, 08:46:49 PM
Hi, all, just wondering what mods (compatible with the latest patch 2.0.0.2) are useful/fun to have in this game, as I just started it.
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: So is Oblivion: Knights of the Nine worth $10? on: December 10, 2006, 08:42:02 PM
BTW, this is on sale again this week at CC, per their ad.  Some advice--the employees sometimes aren't too picky about where they place the boxes.  When I found it last time it was on sale there, it was on the bottom shelf, about twenty feet away from their copies of Oblivion (and there was ample room right under selfsame copies of Oblivion).
8  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Did _anyone_ get Dawn of War as a bonus... on: September 19, 2006, 02:12:51 AM
BTW, as an update, I called GoGamer Customer Service about this and they agreed to credit me 15 bucks on my CoH order as a consideration, which I am quite satisfied with.  Would have liked a free copy of DoW Gold more, but since I think it was more a good faith mistake than intent, it's cool.
9  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Did _anyone_ get Dawn of War as a bonus... on: September 18, 2006, 04:44:45 PM
My theory as to what happened was that they had the product description for the UK version on their site first, then they got a supply of NA copies, switched that in but forgot to change the description on the product page until after a buch of folks had ordered it.  I don't know what the legal issues are, but simply as a customer service issue they should honor it out of their own pockets for the people that they know ordered it before the description on the site changed.
10  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Did _anyone_ get Dawn of War as a bonus... on: September 17, 2006, 09:04:06 PM
Alas, since I used my bank's debit card instead of a "real" VISA, I'm boned on that score.
11  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Did _anyone_ get Dawn of War as a bonus... on: September 17, 2006, 06:24:14 PM
Well, that bites.  I've already got DoW, but was planning to sell the extra copy to a friend at an extremely steep discount.
12  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Did _anyone_ get Dawn of War as a bonus... on: September 17, 2006, 12:43:04 AM
when ordering Company of Heroes from GoGamer?  I ordered on Wednesday with the expectation that I'd be getting DoW Gold as was stated on the product description page at the time, and got CoH today (12 kinds of awesome  thumbsup ), but alas, no DoW either on the DVD or separately.  icon_frown

Anyone think they'll actually honor it now that I've sent them an email about it?  I pointed out the order number, that I'm a longtime repeat customer and all that good stuff.
13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / TOCA Race Driver 3: Comments Please on: July 28, 2006, 02:33:14 PM
I really loved Toca 2 on the Xbox, but refused to get it for the PC because of the SF issue, and the same goes for Toca 3.  I wonder if the Xbox version of 3 is good.
14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Call of Juarez shots and info -- old west shooter on: July 05, 2006, 09:39:30 PM
Hmm, that preview didn't read that badly, actually.  Not so crazy about the title of the game.

Re: the Polish development house--where is Neversoft based?  _Gun_ was certainly fun enough.  The only thing it lacked was a random bounty and pony express mission generator, and less spastic animations when you talked to the NPCs.  Otherwise it was a blast, I thought.

How old is the DVD player? It could be it can't reccognize the newest copy protection on the DVD disc.

This was a problem for me several years ago when I had DVD discs that would work fine on some DVD-ROMs but not others. It was due to the copy protection.

So if it isn't a bad disc you might try picking up a new DVD-ROM. One good thing is they're dirt cheap.

Not being able to read the latest protection would definitely be an issue - if there were any protection on the Oblivion CD.

That's right.  No copy protection used on Oblivion.

Wow.  While I greatly appreciate being able to back up my precious Oblivion DVD, I hope there isn't excessive piracy due to that.

Does this mean the game doesn't read the voices and such off of the DVD in game, and that I don't need to have the DVD in the drive while playing?
17  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Oblivion: is this a bug, or designed? on: March 30, 2006, 05:09:37 PM
Hmm, if that's the reason, they should have just made the model so the quiver isn't as tall and is higher up on the character's back.  Having it disappear like that looks screwy.
18  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Oblivion: is this a bug, or designed? on: March 30, 2006, 07:20:31 AM
Well then I guess my game is bugged somehow.  Hmm.
19  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Oblivion: is this a bug, or designed? on: March 30, 2006, 02:45:27 AM
I notice that when I have a quiver of arrows equipped and I'm in third person view, it disappears when I get on the horse and reappears when I dismount. Is this a bug, or is it based on the idea that, since you can't fight from horseback, it's a weapon that's automatically unequipped?  It's a small thing in a great game, but somehow it bugs me.  I mean, your shield doesn't go away, and yes, I know that's not a weapon.  It still looks screwy to have the quiver just disappear like that.

Can anyone else out there confirm or deny that this is the case with their install, too?  If one of the developers is reading this, can you say if this is by design?

23  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Does WinXP Home let me... on: January 22, 2006, 07:47:39 PM
OK, is there some third-party solution, then-- something by Symantec/Norton perhaps?  There's gotta be something.  I've got Norton Systemworks 2003 around somewhere, gonna see if that has some kind of passwording option that works over a network.
24  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Does WinXP Home let me... on: January 22, 2006, 03:19:12 AM
A passworded share of a directory over the LAN?  How do you do that--I didn't see an option for it under sharing.
25  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Does WinXP Home let me... on: January 21, 2006, 11:58:26 PM
How bizarre.  I seem to remember being able to do this at work with no problem years ago (although that might have been under NT4 or something).   Basically my situation is that I have a new computer, my old computer and my brother's computer on the LAN.  I'd prefer sharing everything between my old and new computers, but not necessarily with my brother's.
26  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Is OO down for anyone else today? on: January 21, 2006, 11:50:02 PM
Weird, because for me it's been down all day, including now.  Must be one of those deals whereby some people's route to a site goes one way and everything is fine, while other people's takes a different path and it hits a broken link in the chain.
27  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Does WinXP Home let me... on: January 21, 2006, 08:54:48 PM

31  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Albatron GF FX5900PV AGP8X 128MB vid card FS/T on: January 08, 2006, 08:06:05 PM
I posted this info over on Octopus Overlords as well as here, hope that's OK.  I do have good feedback over on that site's trading forum, and yes, I am the same Papageno--if you'd like, send me an email via OO giving me some info, then send me one via this site, asking me for that info.  Anyway, on to the item:

The Albatron FX5900PV has 2 regular fans plus one backup fan in case one of the regular ones goes.  It's got DVI and VGA output, and it also has S-Video out (the product page says it has VIVO, although I never tried the S-Video connector at all).  I replaced it last summer for a 6600GT.

Here's the product page for it:

http://www.albatron.com.tw/english/it/vga/specification.asp?pro_id=67

The gpureview.com site, BTW, says that the memory speed of this card is actually 425 MHz (for an effective 850 MHz, they say), and not 400.

There are a couple of games I'm interested in that I could take in trade, but they are more recent ones like Call of Duty 2 and FEAR, so I figure anyone that would be interested in this card wouldn't have them.  Therefore I'm thinking around 50 dollars, shipped in the US only.  It would be just the card (+ manufacturer's card utilities CD and all cables and hardware*).  If anyone's interested you can PM me or email me through the button below.

*a composite video cable, an S-video one, a DVI-male to VGA-female adapter, and the doohicky that goes into the S-video connector on the card and allows for VIVO--here's a pic of that thingy that's part of a review of the card:

Heh, and they're gonna kill  the VP's brother and frame an innocent man for the crime, and have him sentenced to death, and the innocent man's brother is purposefully going to land himself in the same prison to break his brother out just before the execution!

Battlestar Galactica on the SciFi Channel, that is?  I understand that sometime in January they're going to resolve the cliffhanger they left us with:

Spoiler for Hiden:
(Michelle Forbes as the evil fascist Admiral having ordered the execution of two of the Galactica's crew for having inadvertently killed one of her own crew while defending CyloBoomer).

God this bites.  Anyone know what's going on over there?  I wouldn't be so grouchy about it normally, but I've been sick for the last 4 days and now I have a fever and I feel too crappy to game (but don't mention anything like that over on Qt3 or some of them will call you an attention whore and rip you a new one--on the eve of Christmas Eve, even, but I digress).

Anyway, here's some good stuff-- the Chronicles of Narnia Rap from the the most recent ep of SNL:

39  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Long shot: need help w/Everything or Nothing on: November 05, 2005, 08:26:52 AM
OK, for future reference and in hopes that it may help others I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. It boils down to this: you the player MUST be pushing forward on the movement stick to be running off the cliff AS the cutscene ends or as you skip it. Otherwise whatsherass gets a head start on you and it's basically impossible to catch up.

This was so simple I'm kicking myself for not thinking of it sooner. But I couldn't find it on GameFAQs, Usenet groups or anywhere. Hard to believe that no one thought to mention this anywhere there, and especially to my same question which others asked.  Crazy the things that it never occurs to people to mention, even FAQ writers.

Thanks for the reply wbs, the problem is not that I can't hit the Bond moments, the problem is that even without trying to hit the Bond moments I can't figure out how to gain on the plummetting Serena so I can catch her.  Even when I'm not trying to do anything fancy and just catch her, I've managed to do it a total of twice out of a couple of hundred tries, and I don't even know how I did it, it was just dumb luck.
