EVE was a game I liked, but simply had no time to properly played it. Games that I can't truly get into:

--Halo
. I just don't get it's appeal. It just looks like another tired, sci-fish, futuristic FPS. Pass.
--Grand Theft Auto. It doesn't matter how well-made they are, I just think they're crime simulators.
--Pokemon. I've always seen the Pokemon series as RPGs for 12-year olds. Even tough many adults now play Pokemon, I just can't.
--Call Of Duty. Probably my top 'can't get into' game. I dislike military shooters. I think they're boring. The fact the franchise churns out a new one per year and it sells a gazillion copies just flies over my head.

Same here with: EVE Online. I actually played it for 3 months back in 2011.. and it was engrossing. The problem is that to truly get into EVE Online, you've to become committed to it. Play it every day, find a well-organized guild, train your skills for many months, become agressive about raising ISK (money) and resources. It's truly a 'massive' game.. But one you simply can't play casually. I left EVE to play League Of Legends... and that one has been my *ahem* addiction ever since.

EVE Online. The only truly 'massive' MMO out there.

The best part about SWG was how it detached itself from the traditional "you must kill monsters to become better" mentality. Who said other game systems than combat can't be interesting? I never played the game outside the beta (it was the wrong time for me), but I absolutely loved working my way up the crafting trees.

The best part of SWG was the gogo boy dancing outfits and animations!!!!  Man those were good times, what I wouldn't give to get that screenshot back.

Since my new gaming PC still isn't here from Newegg (going on 3 weeks since I ordered), I'm sticking with PS3 this weekend.  Probably some FF 13.

I lied.  I've spent the weekend with a new toon in Guild Wars 2.

Why is it taking so long for NewEgg to get you that computer?

See here, that pretty much sums it up.

That's surprising. I've ordered from NewEgg before with no problems. Sorry to hear about your experience.

Addressing ones of heloder's complaints:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Why does Thorin regress to thinking Bilbo is a worthless toad immediately after the lovey-dovey sequence towards the end of the first movie?

Spoiler for Hiden:
I can answer this one - he was being corrupted by the treasure horde and dwarven greed. It's pointed out several times that the mountain treasure corrupts. Balin even berates Thorin for acting like a dick to Bilbo and explains all that. Point being - dwarves turn into greedy racist fucks when they get near treasure, as the elves well know.  icon_biggrin

I just got back from seeing Desolation of Smaug and it completely blew me away. Yes there are some silly sequences and they took some grand liberties with characters/plot, but as a pure fantasy film it was really entertaining. Smaug is the best dragon ever put to film, hands down. Period.

I agree with these assestments. Smaug doesn't dissapoint. Best dragon on film ever.

Well, I enjoyed it so much I brought the Blu Ray.

Yup...I've seen it maybe 6-7 times altogether, as for why they did things, because it's a movie. So why didn't they use the sword before...because it's a movie, that wall was dumb it isn't going to stop...it's a movie, why did the jet fly within 50 feet of...it's a movie. I enjoyed it immensely, though I'm a fan of the genre so I tend to be more forgiving then others.

I feel the same. I loved 'Pacific Rim'. I'm going to watch it again and will likely get the BluRay too. I thought Guillermo Del Toro perfectly capture the spirit of the 'Kaigu' Japanese movies and anime from the 70s and 80s. I grew up watching that stuff in Puerto Rico (TranzerZ, Robotech) so I got 'Pacific Rim' from the get-go. I thought the giant robot/monster battles were superbly visualized. Loved the movie all the way thru and didn't mind the narrative cliches.

Watched 'Desolation Of Smaug' last night.. and I liked it! After not being enthused about 'Unexpected Journey', I was a bit suspect on the next movie.. but I thought 'Smaugh' was entertaining and compelling. Yeah, it's embellished, but I wasn't put off by it. The action sequences were fun and the new characters (Tauriel, in particular) were compelling. Bilbo meeting Smaug made it all worthwhile. Now.. the one year wait until we see the rumble over Lakethon.

I like the kid, and I'm certain there are many worse choices, but, no.

Joseph Gordon Levitt. He's one of the most talented younger actors of his generation. I heard he did a pretty good job with his directorial debut, 'Don John'.

There's a tip for you!

Looks like a good place to call home. biggrin

Another tip: Your Matter Manipulator should only be used to get enough wood and cobblestone to make a pickaxe and a normal axe. Then you can tuck it away and never use it again. Also yes, the pickaxe uses the same left/right button feature that the Matter Manip did.

Also, holding shift changes your 'affect size' with your pickaxe/MM/placing blocks. From a 3x3 or 2x2 grid to a single square.

And the game is pretty well developed so far, IMHO. The main issue is the lack of a good tutorial and really explaining things.

Great tips! Yes, I think this game is very far along. They need to put a tutorial in..but it can wait. There are guides on the developer's forum that teach you many things about the game.
111  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Sandman: Once planned as a TV series, now becoming a movie instead? on: December 17, 2013, 05:28:08 AM
I hope Hollywood never makes a 'Sandman' film or tv show. 'Sandman' was always 'alternative' and 'indie'. They should just give some talented young buck director a limited budget--let's say 5 mill--and just say to him (or her)..'Do whatever the fuck you want with it'. I'll bet you we'll get a kickass Sandman film that way.

WatchDogs (PC or PS4): Open-world hacking/criminal intrigue? Bring it on!
InFamous: Second Son (PS4): Will buy the PS4 when it's released. Looks fantastic!
Destiny (PS4): Never cared for 'Halo', but I'm intrigued by Bungie's new offering.
Elder Scrolls MMO: If it's as compelling as Skyrim, yep, it's gonna be great.
Uncharted 4: Naughty Dog Next gen Nathan Drake adventures on the PS4? Sold!
Planetary Annihilation: Spiritual succesor to Total Annihilation on the PC. Yep. I want that!
War For the Overworld: Spiritual succesor to Dungeon Keeper on the PC. Yep. Bring it!
TitanFall (PC): No Xbone for me, thanks.. but will play it on the PC.

Played a bit more tonight. One hour turned into two.. then three. And I was able to build my first house in-game.  nod

It was tricky figuring out how to build. The game has no building tutorial. Then I figured out that your matter generator can materialize/dematerialize matter in the foreground or background depending what mouse button you click (foreground - left, background - right). There's a tip for you!

In the past few days, I've been thinking about 'Spore' and how I wish that game could have been what it promised to be. 'Spore' had so much promise, but it squandered by a dumbing-down by corporate EA jackasses. By the end, you had nothing but a boring and repetitious space stage with no real strategy endgame/gameplay.

And what a shame. What the game could have been had they made some critical gameplay decisions: What if the design of your creatures truly determined their chances of survival to the space stage? What if, from the spore stage, the game could have generated 'nemesis' creatures that evolved alongside yours and became your arch-enemies in the space stage? What if the planets in the space stage had different qualities and were suited for inhabiting by certain types of creatures? What if the game could have truly made us think about evolution at a grand stage instead of devolving into selling cutesy creature-creation packs?

God, I hate EA.

....

Other games I wish could make a comeback: 'Dungeon Keeper'. Man, I really would love to see a current gen version of that game. A sequel for the Shiny RTS 'Sacrifice' would be super. There was this cool, little Activision RTS game--'Netstorm'. Anyone remember it? You played these islands in the sky battling each other. I would love to see that come back. When is 'Command And Conquer' gonna make a comeback?

So many games I miss.
