I'm one of the ones that play MMO's and hate gold farmers (for those of you that care - IGE farms gold in most MMO's, not just WOW). However, if it get's Ron $10K and saves the site (and his sanity ) then I say go ahead and keep it. I'll just ignore it...

I kind of see what you are saying but there's something I'm missing still:
If Gamer A camps somewhere and gathers X amount of golds, and then spends it on an item(driving up the price), how is that acceptable but if Gamer A camps/gathers gold/then sells it to Gamer B and Gamer B is the one who spends it on that item- that's not acceptable? Either way, that gold is going into the economy. I think the issue is that the gold farmers (usually Chinese paid peanuts) spend ALL their time camping for gold. They will collect a LOT more gold then a gamer spending a few hours doing so. They can also rotate people on an account, so 2-3 people can spend 24 hours farming for gold. No gamer can compete with that... I've always though that part of the problem is how game economies are set up. In theory there is is infinite gold "out there". Even the devs can't control it - if you choose to spend all your time farming for it. I've never understood why games are not set up like the real world, with governments controling the supply of money (or at least attempting to). /off topic Actually, I've never understood why games don't have real governments with policies and goals that they push for - usually, all you get is "the King needs you collect 20 foozles for some lame reason". /end sub off topic

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Looking for a list of "internet-only" banks

Sorry to hear that they wouldn't help you For a second I thought you were going to say you had $2500 in over drafts.. any other stories? I had a case where a mis-timed check caused my regular bills (5) to bounce and the credit union charged me $150. However, when I called them up they took away all except one of the charges. That's why I suggested calling them. If you're looking for a new financial institution, then can I suggest a Credit Union?I've found them to be much more helpful then banks, and they're generally cheaper too.

Thanks for the link Orinoco, was what I was looking for. I had (have) NetBank but they charged me $450.00 worth of service charges for buying two games on Amazon where the sellers kept trying to re-bill me when there weren't enough funds to cover it. Amazingly NetBank charged me $30.00 per declined transaction - which totaled up to $450.00. (Over half my check) I tried to stop my direct deposit before it went in but I wasn't able to, so it looks like I'm staying with netbank for a while. Woah - I'd suggest calling them and explaining the situation. They can reverse the charges if you can talk them into it. Be polite but firm and ask to talk to the supervisor and hopefully you can get most of the charges taken off (they'll probably charge you one fee). State that you will change banks if they don't help out here (but be prepared to follow through on the threat if required). Good luck and I hope you get your money back...

BTW - I suggest that Ron and others over 2005 try going backwards... I'm sure there was something interesting going on in 4200 BC Boring... 20 AD Events First year of Dihuang era of the Chinese Xin Dynasty. Tiberias is built on the Sea of Galilee by Herod Antipas, in honour of Tiberius. Galba is a Roman praetor. Marcus Valerius Messalla Barbatus becomes a consul Births Deaths Hillel the Elder, Talmudic scholar, his school and teachings were the most influential in the Talmud. Vipsania Agrippina, wife of Gaius Asinius Gallus and former wife of Tiberius.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / The Greatest Strategy Guide Ever Written

In summary, it is indeed a 4x game, and if I had to approximate its general bent, if you could imagine a synthesis of Civ, MoM, and EUII, you'd land pretty close to the mark where Candle'Bre is concerned.... -=Vel=- Whoa! Now you've REALLY got me interested!!

from what I saw playing part of one game only I wasn't overly impressed. OK -Thanks. I'll avoid it for the moment. Most of the reviews that I've seen say the same sort of thing....

I'm not a big GalCiv fan - it was Ok, but didn't seem to have a "heart" IMO. However, I'll definately check out (& probably buy) the second one. Thanks for the headsup about the beta.
dbt - The Supremacy: 4 Paths to Power was the one I was refering to in the original post. Have you tried it? I was really tempted - and may end up getting it as it's only $25 (download) - but I'm put off by the general reviews/comments about the lack of AI.
edit: Just checked out Star Chamber - wow, it looks great! I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Title says it all I've got a hankering for some space based 4x gaming goodness. Anything decent out there any more, or is this a dead genre? I was getting interesting in the new Matrix game - Supremacy: 4 ways to power (something like that anyway) until I saw some player reviews about the AI missing a bit of I... Also, it seems to be more 2X... Anything I may have missed in the last 6-12 months, or coming soon?? Thanks for the help Orin

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / R&P Decision
|
on: October 13, 2004, 12:52:14 AM

If you're implying I'm one of the "some people", I already expressed my gratitude to Ron and staff in one of the other threads, likening these new digs, with this robust software and hyperactive support staff, to the Four Seasons resort. Obviously he doesn't owe me anything.
The only reason I've (respectfully) expressed my opinion on the subject of R&P was because Ron has actively invited input and comments on the matter from the GG immigrants.
Accept the decision and move on with your life. Anything else is churlish in my opinion... God, is that irritating. As if anything I've said should indicate A) an unwillingness to accept the decision or B) the inability to move on with my life. This announcement was made, what, four or five hours ago? Yeah, boy, I'm really just stuck in a rut over here.
And wasn't there a laughy face at the end of my post you quoted? Churlish my hind-quarters.
Sorry. I didn't mean to imply that you were - it was aimed at other people here. I can understand people making a pitch for what they want but if KD says "no", then I feel we should all accept it and move on. However, we all have different speeds for that and the GG community almost certainly meant more to you then me (I was mostly a lurker). I apologize if my message came across as mean - it wasn't intended that way. I've moved a lot over the years (including changing continents) and I've found that I make new friends everywhere I go and keep a lot of the old ones. I see this as another move... Yes I saw the smily face on your note - I forgot the one on mine. Sorry again

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / R&P Decision
|

I'm pretty shocked by how many people gladly accept being told not to discuss politics or religion. But then again, nobody votes or goes to church so I don't know why I'd find it surprising. Do you play your gameboy in church or when you go to vote? I don't - may be that allows me to seperate my gaming from my politics/religion. I haven't gladly accepted being told not to discuss politics and religion - I've accepted that I can't do it in this forum. When a GG R&P forum forms somewhere (as I'm sure it will), I'll post in both. If it doesn't form then I'll go elsewhere. I don't think KD owes me anything (as some people seem to think he does). I'll take what I'm offered with sincere thanks, like the refugee I am. Accept the decision and move on with your life. Anything else is churlish in my opinion...
