Is it with any game you play, or just MW2?

Last night was pretty rough in terms of lag on MW2, the group I was playing with actually bailed on a few rooms because of lag. One of them was virtually unplayable, suuuuper low frames per second.

Yeah the Tar-21 really is not a bad gun at all.  I think I prefer the ACR, but you can do fine with the Tar-21.

Lettuce, go try the F2000 out just for kicks.

I used the TAR I think to 500 kills leveling up the first time.

Probably will go back at some point, but right now i'm using the M4, ACR and mostly the SCAR (which I've gotten a handle on <small clip size be damned!>)

When the the F2000 opens up I'll give it a go.

The F2000 is so bad it's almost comical, that's why you should try it out just for fun.

Hell if you find a good way to use it, let me know cause I'm always open to hearing how to improve with certain guns.

I remember reading farther back in this chain - if you're using the F2000, start shooting at the waist and let the gun just raise itself right up. By time time you've killed them you'll be near the neck / head. Wicked fast, but some wicked recoil too.

The title is pretty much the question, but here is the details.

I travel once a month for work and I am in a hotel 3-6 nights each time. The hotel offers crappy wi-fi only, no wired connection. So I thought about hauling an Xbox along so I had something to do after work (other than just drink). The Wife has approved a $199 purchase for the arcade, and I am considering it. My concern is that not having the hard drive is going to limit me too much, but if I am only playing offline, maybe not. Also, would I 'need' a memory card, or is the built in memory enough?

On a side note, anyone have tips on traveling (flying) with an xbox? My flight is on a small plane, so my carry on bag I gate check, and I have a backpack for my laptop. I figure I can just stuff the Xbox in with my laptop. Security will be a pain in the ass, but oh well. Also so far it seems all the TVs in the hotel have component hookups, so I should be good there.

I wouldn't buy an Xbox without the hard drive. As games continue to get larger and larger, a lot of folks find installing them before play really improves the overall gameplay experience.

I can't speak to the exact specs of the arcade and what you can and can't do for that, but for a lot of downloadable content I'd want some space to save it. My recommendation would be to save up the extra $100 and get the pro. In the long run, I think you'll appreciate having the hard drive.

Reformed? That Slikagami guy still abuses the "Riot Shield" glitch.  That's the one where you use a Riot Shield.

I hate that glitch. I empty a full clip on the SOB and he just runs up to me and throws a knife. Drives me insane.

I still haven't found out how to stop a riot shield one on one. If he sees me and there's no one else to support me, I'm toast.

Semtex.  I got three quick kills against riot dudes last night.  Toss onto the shield, get the "stuck" message, run like hell.

I had someone survive the other day when I stuck them with a semtex. Dude had a riot shield, I'm wondering if he had blast shield on and survived because of it?

Nope, no level cap increase in the expansion.

I shelved this game weeks ago when I found out about the limited line description bug.

I hope Microsoft certifies the next patch soon so I can go back to playing.

That's too bad about no level expansion. I played through both walkthroughs and really enjoyed both. As it stands now, I feel like I'm very close to having what I'd consider to be the best loot in game. I don't carry around much that isn't burnt orange, so no level expansion doesn't do a whole lot for me.

Holy crap, the zombie island expansion is fun.  Also seems like you get your money's worth since it's 800 points and contains at least 5 or 6 hours worth of game (at least at the rate I plow through games).  the writing is pretty funny, as well.  I chuckled out loud at a few of the lines.

Level cap expansion in the DLC or no?

haha!

The thing that keeps me motivated on my quest to 1.00 is that I haven't increased my 400 death debt in two weeks which means I've been averaging 1.00 in that time. So I'm getting better. If I can continue this improvement I should be able to hit 1.00 by February. slywink

Why didn't anyone tell me the SPAS-12 shotgun was so good?  Pump action, sure, but it's a one shot kill even at a fair distance.

And it can be silenced!

Still a one shot kill silenced?

I don't think any shotgun will top the dual 1887's or "Terminators" as they're lovingly called in game. Those things are one shot kill from halfway across the map.

I really wish you could choose your killstreak order once you've achieved them. For instance, most people keep UAV which would be their first reward. If you manage to land a harrier or airstrike or stealth bomber, etc. it'd be awesome to be able to use the UAV and THEN the other reward. I find myself begging for someone to throw down a UAV so I can use my other reward a lot of the time.

Yeah, it doesn't seem that hard to do. Currently you press right on the d-pad to deploy whatever reward you have. Since you can have up to 4, why not map additional killstreaks to other buttons on the d-pad? It already gives you a visual of which one is up to be deployed, and in spec-ops I've had the predator missile move from right on the d-pad to pressing down.

Or when you press right d-pad or whatever button they map it to, have it bring up a small menu which you can choose from? Either way, that would have been a huge bonus to me.

Then again, if most people are running around with cold-blooded... you're hosed either way.

So it looks like now you can't have old killstreak rewards count towards a new killstreak, but unlike previous games you can store up to four different killstreaks. I'll take it.

Really?  How?  I for some reason only thought you could do up to three.  You can do four?  Perhaps I haven't unlocked enough killstreak options yet.

You can only have three killstreaks selected going into a game, but I'm pretty sure you can stack 4 different rewards while in any given round.

In previous versions, if you got a UAV, but didn't use it before you got to five kills and unlocked an airstrike, that UAV was gone. Now in MW2, this isn't the case. You would still have the UAV, but you would have to use the airstrike first. I'm pretty sure the number of stacked rewards you can have at any one time is four, but I could be wrong on that number.

I really wish you could choose your killstreak order once you've achieved them. For instance, most people keep UAV which would be their first reward. If you manage to land a harrier or airstrike or stealth bomber, etc. it'd be awesome to be able to use the UAV and THEN the other reward. Having not played for a few days, and struggling with Live issues throughout the night (kept getting kicked from Live, games would lag or freeze up, enemies would warp around), I eventually got into a solid game with Jarrod and Hadron near the end of the night.  I kept with the UMP even though it isn't a personal favorite as I'm working on leveling it up, and I fared pretty well using the bling perk and the red dot sight and silencer.  Combine the silencer with cold-blooded pro and ninja pro and no one could figure out where I was.   icon_twisted

I was a little ambitious with my killstreak settings as I think my first killstreak wouldn't be awarded until six kills, hoping to work my way to an AC-130 gunner with the help of a precision airstrike and attack chopper but I always seemed to fall short.  Then I switched back to lower killstreaks and was much more successful.

It was a lot of fun as usual, I just wish we could have been more successful in finding more players to join us.  After not being able to get back into a game with Kato, Hark, Mikagami, etc, I settled for starting up my own game and only Jarrod and Hadron were available.  Wuigi expressed interest but had logged off before I had a chance to send him another invite.  Still, asshattery was relatively minimal, and anytime it got out of hand I just utilized the mute button.

Feel free to add me. It varies night to night, but last night I think we ran with 4 or 5 the whole evening. Nonnahob is my gamertag.

getting frustrating trying for the EMP icon this prestige run.  just not getting good enough streaks.  I've been using care package on the off chance I get an EMP from it, but the odds are low.  I finally had one show up and it was when I was up camping a rooftop and threw the care package down for the team.  MSteelers got the EMP. O_o

I tried playing a few other modes and ignoring the objective to poach enough kills to get the streak but I just can't do it.  As soon as the game tells me to 'escort bomb carrier' or 'destroy objective' I tend to go do it.  I just can't make myself not play within the game objective. frown

I also played a round of hardcore team deathmatch and it was extremely boring.  I went 12-4 and I think I was the only one on either team moving at all.  the game ended with the 'winning' team having 2700 points.  I even threw down an AC-130  care package for a team mate and he got 1 kill.  icon_eek

At this point, I feel like a chopper gunner > AC-130 almost all the time... unless I'm on maybe Wasteland. I've only had AC-130 a few times, but it seems like every time I have I've gotten a lot less kills then I will using the chopper gunner.

I'm looking foward to BC2. I'm really enjoying MW2, but find myself frustrated beyond belief sometimes by the stuff going on.

I've heard it said a ton of times in this thread though - you just have to adapt.  nod

I'll probably adjust a few of my kits after playing a few games last night where the weapon of choice by 4/6 of the other team was the tube.

Don't get me started on the rampant noob tubing.

If folks would just get a rifle/sub machine gun and fire bullets at each other, the game would be perfect online. smile

noob tube now has a hard counter, just equip blast shield if you come across a team that uses them and you will wipe the floor with them.

I enjoy using the 1887 dual wield, I enjoy using the lightweight/commando knife kit, and I even enjoy using the Javelin glitch.  However I really don't think any of those three have any place in this game.  I seriously doubt the first two will ever be removed and possibly won't ever even be toned down.  The knife kit is absurd mostly due to the lag in the game.  Latency in MW2 seems far worse than in COD4.  The killcam matches up much less than it did before.  Even ignoring the huge lag spikes we often have, there is always a state of latency that makes this game feel a bit less solid than previous ones.  I really think a lot of it is poor matchmaking algorithms though.  The previous games had the option to limit searches to local region and this one does not.

I couldn't agree more on the lag issue Harkonis. So many times I'll come around a corner and get 2 or 3 shots off on someone and die. Then watching the kill cam, I don't even shoot. When it's that bad, what gives!?

I hate it when people say, "just adapt" or "find a new strategy". If adapting means playing a different game than I signed up for, then I'm not having fun, am I? I might as well not play. I'm not saying I'm going to stop playing, but I wish people would stop brushing off people who dislike the type of play that some of the new perks and weapons have introduced.

I don't like it either and I agree that "just adapt" sucks as any kind of comfort to the flaws the game has. I also agree that if everyone just shot bullets it would be a lot more fun! It sucks having to retool your characters class because the idiot with the noob tube and scavenger is destroying the team. It'd be nice if the shotguns were toned down, too.

Overall though, I love playing with the team I've been running with lately. I think that is what keeps me most interested in the game. It's especially great when you mix people of different playstyles. Like someone said earlier, Mikagami does an awesome job of playing a lightweight / marathon class... and when I run with Optix, he knows all the great places to hide. I think it becomes a lot more fun when you run with a group who has such varied gameplaying styles. Maybe if we can get Lettuce to chill out on his kill to death, everyone will be happy.  icon_lol

I'm not near the quality player either of them are, but I do like the team atmosphere and like you said - it's awesome to play with people who aren't sitting there going "OMFG you suxxorz i pwned you lolz!!!!" Mik made a good point the other day online, you can mute everyone but people on your friends list. What's the point of all the realism in the game if the weapons don't follow suit? I understand they have a creative license to do whatever they feel like doing, but this isn't Halo... here, you get shot with a gun and you die. Cars blow up when you hit them with a grenade. You can shoot down planes. Why include a shotgun that has the range of an assault rifle?

The whole marathon / lightweight / commando thing isn't bugging me as much anymore, but I do believe they need to fix the air drop grenade bug. Running super fast because you got an air drop makes no sense. Try shooting someone with the above kit and an air drop grenade. It's like the coyote trying to catch the roadrunner.

I think the game is hardest once you complete your second walkthrough and have hit 50. It seems like all the enemies are then lvl 50+. If you come across a lvl 52 bad motha... you're in for a fight. I'm pretty decked in epic loot and even so, there are some instances where I'm throwing my turret and hugging the ground trying to stay alive.

Commando makes me want to cry sometimes, I feel like anyone close enough to use commando is invincible. You can shoot them as they're sprinting into you and it makes no difference. Lightweight + Marathon = ridiculous on small maps. Throw in some dual 1887's and a tactical knife and you will destroy people.
