1  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / BC vs. GT on: August 08, 2006, 03:38:38 PM
Quote from: "TheMissingLink"
I officially approve of this thread

*high-five*

I don't own any of the popular options thus far, but hey, if any BC'er wants an asswhooping in Winning Eleven...they know who to PM.

They have to PM me? slywink

Corrupt, let's boil that down to the basics.
Check return policy on whatever store FIRST. Costco & Walmart have awesome return policies. Also, make sure they aren't writing down the serial number at the time of sale (Which is why I don't recommend Gamestop/EBGames).
[list=1]
  • Go to Costco / Walmart, etc and buy a 360.
  • Get it home and unpack it out of the box.
  • Pack your busted-ass one in box.
  • Return your to the store (it's better to go to a different store-front); indicate you hated it/wife made you return it/alien probe in your ass interferes with it.
Tell them you hate chocolate milk for all I care.
  • Leave with your money.
  • There is no step 6.
  • [/list:o]

Only thing I would add here is to make sure you TAKE CARE OF YOUR 360 (don't put stickers, scratch it up, etc).  If you make it look like crap, they can tell right off that you switched it out.

Very evil of you Purge    But since I added to your list..

Except that highly probably won't work if the 360 packaging is like that of the original xbox: the serial number on the 360 and the number on the box won't match, so they won't return it.

Unless, of course, you have a lazy shop clerk who doesn't check for the serial numbers.
3  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Worst Movie of All time candidate on: February 22, 2006, 06:15:03 PM
Yeah, stop the Deep Blue Sea dissing. That movie was hilarious.

I also really dug the part where

Spoiler for Hiden:

The shark took the doctor guy who he had just bitten the arm off in his mouth and slammed him against the window of the base. Teehee.

My name was Turncoat btw, not Napoleon. Damn gamespy frown
7  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / "Seven" Final Scene Performed by Stuffed Animals on: April 19, 2005, 07:06:47 AM
Yuck. I still hate that scene. Hate in a good way though.

Such a great movie, but man oh man, did that scene slap me in the face the first time I saw it.
8  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / LOST - 3/30/05 - HOLY COW! (WBS shoutout) on: March 31, 2005, 04:45:21 PM
I'd add Charlie to your list, Redjak, and take Kate and probably Sayid off.

I'd really hate to see Sayid go, as he's a really fun character (and I like his accent smile ), but he doesn't add too much lately, aside from being the "tinkerer". Kate adds hardly anything other than her insanely good looks. She does have quite a mysterious story left though, it would be a shame to kill off that story by killing off Kate.

I thought originally it was going to be Boone that was gonna die at the end of the season. Now with him getting wounded seriously so many episodes before the end of the season: I'm not so sure. It makes sense to save the killing off a character till the finale, and I don't think they're gonna make him suffer in pain for the next couple of episodes and THEN kill him off.
9  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / LOST - 3/30/05 - HOLY COW! (WBS shoutout) on: March 31, 2005, 11:56:17 AM
Whoa. Whoa WHOA WHOA. WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA.

Locke is just beyond awesome. What a great episode. Where in the hell is this show going?

The map did indeed show Nigeria, and the Sahara. I didn't see the shadow behind Locke at the end though.

Best part of the episode by far was The Office reference. NICE! smile
11  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / European World of Warcraft Release on: February 08, 2005, 03:45:09 PM
(crossposted from OO, to reach the most european people smile )
This friday finally marks the release of the european version of World of Warcraft. Percy talked me into buying it, even though I wasn't planning to at first. I'm now hyped up to play the game (and I even participated in the original US beta...sigh  slywink ).

Who else is getting it, and let's get together

Percy, Elborto and me are going to play Horde and probably on a PvE server (which one, we don't know yet of course, because I don't think there's a list yet). Anyone else feel like joining us? Post here!  biggrin

13  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Why is it so hard for them to honor our rebate requests? on: February 03, 2005, 11:41:58 AM
I had a Microsoft rebate for 10 bucks a couple of years ago. I had to mail in the original barcode from the box with a copy of the receipt. After ping-ponging the rebate mail between me and microsoft three or four times (there were about 7 gazillion barcodes on the box smile and then they lost the copy of my receipt) I just gave up.

16  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Finally had enough - I'm done with all Red Storm games on: January 09, 2005, 11:38:41 AM
Huh, weird. It's a difficult game, but definitely not frustrating. I've done some reloading, but not overly much.

That being said, I like the game quite a bit, it's got great athmosphere, some nice graphics and it's not too dumbed down.

I was afraid the lone wolf missions would suck, but that camera-gun is pretty cool smile I am disliking the framerate though. It's not horrible, but it has a bit of stuttering once in a while.

I'm glad I bought the game though (and I haven't even taken it online yet smile )

At least there are no ewoks. Mark Hamill looks like shit also, he looks like hes 60!

Hamill looking like shit really isn't his fault. He got in an auto accident early in his career and got his face messed up and had to get some plastic surgury to get it fixed but he never really looked the same as he did when he was a young luke skywalker. Still, I never really saw him as a great actor, more of a character actor.

Yep, the wompa scene at the beginning of empire was used to explain the visible injuries on his face. Those weren't make-up effects.

Meh, from his imdb.com page:
"I had the accident way before Star Wars came out, but what really happened has been terribly distorted. I broke my nose, that's it! But I've read accounts about how my face has been reconstructed with plastic surgery and how I was pulling myself along the highway with one arm looking for help. I even heard that I drove off a cliff! That's the best one of all." - Mark Hamill on his auto accident.

And my own personal dirty secret: I love Spies like us with Chase and Aykroyd. I watched that movie again and again when I was younger.
20  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Dukes of Hazzard Pic on: December 30, 2004, 12:45:04 PM
Well, I never really watched the Dukes of Hazzard much (when I was young and the reruns were on, I was more into the A-team smile ), but I like Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville. Ms. Dummy annoys me though. True, I'd hit it without even thinking about it for a second, but she's still hugely annoying.

25  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Closer.....Still feeling the pain from this crapfest. on: December 12, 2004, 09:30:11 AM
Haven't seen Closer yet, but I did see Garden State two days ago, and during that movie, I couldn't stop thinking that Nat Portman is one of the best young actresses around. Seeing what happened in Star Wars, maybe it's just that she really needs a good director and/or dialogue to work with or something?

She's impressed the hell out of me at least in Garden State (and also in Beautiful Girls, although she's much younger there.)

Meh, she doesn't even swallow slywink
27  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What's your GOAT of the Year so far? (PC edition) on: December 02, 2004, 05:02:20 PM
Doom 3, beyond any doubt. I actively hated that game, whereas usually I'm just disinterested in bad games.

Sure, it looks awesome (and I did the gamma adjustment thing) but the incredibly cheap scare tactics used by the devs, and the fact that quite often enemies will spawn in rooms you've already cleared seriously pissed me off. Also, from the four or five hours I played it: where did the old Doom gameplay go?

I think Doom 3 is a HORRIBLE game. Good engine though, that's for sure.

FarCry I kind of liked, but more for it's drop-dead-gorgeous scenery than for it's story or gameplay.
28  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Paris Hilton fascinating? Uh, no on: December 02, 2004, 04:50:45 PM
Well...it is kinda fascinating how someone with no discernible talent besides spending money can stay in the spotlight as much as Paris Hilton has. Especially when she looks as skanky as she does Tongue
29  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What's your GOAT of the Year so far? (console edition) on: December 01, 2004, 09:21:36 AM
Very few console games actually dissapointed me, but the one that stands out is Full Spectrum Warrior.

I had fun with it, but where I expected a fun, squad-level 3d version of Close Combat for the PC, I ended up with a puzzle game with guns.

It was kind of meh.

33  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Finished Halo 2? Discuss here. *SPOILER WARNING!* on: November 12, 2004, 02:48:46 PM
My brother and I played it in coop. We both had yesterday off, and we finished up today. Took about 11 hours in total and we both completely LOATHE the ending. Especially because the lead-up to the grand finale is...well, non-existant and the last boss is completely pointless.

I didn't mind playing as the arbiter at all, I think he's cool as hell.

About what you get for finishing the game...I heard you'll also get a different insignia for finishing it...is that true?

Napolean,
wouldn't it point you in the direction of everyone who might have the file?

And then you grab different pieces of it, whether theirs is complete or not.

It directs the client to users who are sharing the file (seeding), and allows you to pull from each of them at once.  The torrent file isn't a small part of the file you're trying to download though.

Exactly, that's what I meant.

That was just a technical remark btw, practically it doesn't matter much.
I, btw, think the bittorrent protocol is incredibly cool.

Pig

Well, at my old age I can't figure if you're being serious here or not..but i'll give you the benefit of the doubt

A torrent is a small piece of a file that lets you connect with others who have the other pieces of that whole file.

It makes for fast downloading, because the more people sharing thier files means more "highway" room.

I don't think that's true. The torrent file (.torrent) is a file that basically points you in the correct location to get the actual file you want to download. Torrent files are usually really small (anywhere from 2 kb to the largest one I've seen: 600 kb, but that was for a full season worth of Scrubs).

I'd like to recommend ABC as a bittorrent client. It's really good.
36  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / should I get KOTOR on: November 11, 2004, 04:37:51 PM
YES. YES. YES YES YES.

If you're like me, you'll be so addicted to it that you'll play it untill you're finished smile

It's about 30 hours of gameplay, so depending on how much time you have, you could probably finish it before KOTOR2 sees release.

Is this legal?

From what I know (as I'm no lawyer), TV shows are in the gray area right now. It's basically like recording a VHS tape of the show and giving it to a friend.

However, if the show in question isn't on the air anymore, and if the show is available for purchase otherwise, the legality of the whole thing is highly questionable.

Something like that.
Downloading a tv show that you can watch anyway seems to be legal. So: say you have HBO, you can download the Sopranos, because you could have watched it anyway. If you don't get HBO, you're not allowed to download the Sopranos: you didn't pay for it.

Problem with bittorrents however is that you're ALWAYS sharing. And that's what's illegal, I think.

So, downloading through kazaa with sharing disabled is allowed, downloading through bittorrent seems to be illegal. That being said, I do it as well, because I actually enjoy watching stuff on my pc MUCH more than on the commercial-ridden actual tv smile
