2  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / FS/T: Advance Wars: Dual Strike (NDS) - traded on: March 11, 2007, 02:06:01 AM
Accidently ended up with an extra copy. Complete, in-box, used. Would prefer to trade, but will also consider offers. See my sig for games that I'm interested in trading for. Thanks!

Update:
Ugh. I don't actually have the game. I won 2 auctions on ebay, and it appears that I got ripped off on one of them. If I do receive the game, I'll still want to trade. I'll update the message if/when that happens. Sorry.
3  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / ATI x1950XTX v. x1950XT? on: November 08, 2006, 03:31:08 AM
Does anyone know the difference between the ATI x1950 XTX and x1950XT (besides $200)? I haven't seen any benchmarks at all for the XT, just the XTX. How do these cards compare to the x1950 Pro? Why do there have to be so many confusing names? smile

Thanks
4  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Should I upgrade my video card? on: August 08, 2006, 03:51:19 PM
Please don't laugh; I have a P4 2.4GHz and a GeForce 5950. I don't have the cash for a full-on upgrade. I was wondering if I could benefit from a video card update? Do they even make AGP cards any more? What video card would provide the best bang for the buck, considering that I'd likely not use it in any new system (since everything is PCI-e now).

Thanks
5  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Anyone getting a black screen? on: July 23, 2006, 07:08:02 PM
I am getting a black screen, because I have not had power for the past 5 days. frown I am one of the "lucky" ones in St. Louis. At this point though, all I really want is a good nights sleep in my own bed... everything else I can live without.
6  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Wanted: Heroes 3 Complete or Armageddon's Blade on: July 22, 2006, 09:40:31 PM
Anyone have a copy of Heroes 3 Complete or Armageddon's Blade they want to part with? You can check out my admittedly pathetic list of trades available, or I'm willing to pay cash.

Thanks
7  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Mac now runs WinXP? on: April 07, 2006, 10:50:44 PM
I seriously doubt this is a precursor to the end of OS X. No one is going to buy Apple's um.. premium hardware just to run plain old windows. I doubt most Mac users will even use the feature (nonwithstanding the fact that most Mac users have PPC based Macs, of course). I think all Apple is doing here is making the Mac a more attractive choice for those people on the fence (and those who have a few applications that don't exist in Macland). OS X IS the Mac experience - if Apple loses that, then they have nothing.
8  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Diablo 2: Animation Skip/Stutter with Direct3D? on: April 07, 2006, 10:40:29 PM
I've had a problem like this in the past, and it turned out that it was actually some kind of sound problem - when I turned off the "environmental" 3D sound, it seemed to be better. YMMV etc.
9  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Space Rangers 2 [US] Impressions on: April 07, 2006, 10:29:31 PM
Count me in the Starforce = No Sale camp. Besides, I'm not convinced that game has much longevity - sure, the universe is "big" but from what I saw, it was also largely the same.

I still mourn for the loss of Silent Hunter III, though...
10  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Good "short" games? on: February 27, 2006, 12:11:06 AM
Quote from: "-Lord Ebonstone-"
Let me ask, why do you have to *complete* the game in 30-60 minutes?  I mean, that's what the save function is for...

I've got so many games that take hours and hours to play, I though it would be a nice change of pace to have some games that AREN'T so epic in scope .. something where you could feel a sense of accomplishment in a short time period. Sometimes I don't have hours of contiguous time to spend on games.

SAIS looks familiar .. maybe I've played the demo before. I'll have to check it out (again). Astral Masters also looks interesing.

I never cared for NetHack. There is just way too much stuff you have to "know" to be successful, and it seems the only way to truly learn the game is to research it outside the game. Otherwise obscure goofy things happen and (as you said), you die.

Thanks for the suggestions.
11  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Good "short" games? on: February 25, 2006, 06:51:30 PM
I've been looking for some games that can be completed in 30-60 minutes. I prefer strategy and RPGs, and turn-based over real-time. I've found a lot of "puzzle" games but they are generally a little too abstract for me to enjoy.

Any ideas?

13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Good PBEM Games? on: February 24, 2006, 01:09:37 AM
If you're in it for the long haul, Civilization 4.

Also, I've heard Laser Squad Nemesis is good, but I haven't played that one personally.
14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [DEMO] Battle for Middle Earth II on: February 23, 2006, 01:43:35 AM
Yeah, that explaination is LAME at best. Who hardcodes screen resolutions these days?? Oh yeah, these guys. True, some lame games will crop the top and bottom to give you "widescreen" but not every game "skews" the picture when viewing at different ratios. Some programmers are competent enough to support both 4:3 and various widescreen ratios... all without editing an ini file.
15  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [DEMO] Battle for Middle Earth II on: February 21, 2006, 09:31:46 PM
What is the deal with games not supporting widescreen? Supposedly you CAN change the rez to a widescreen format but it cuts off the top and bottom. That's just dumb. Rise of Nations supported widescreen AGES ago, and Empires at War supports it just fine, so apparently the technology exists (and has existed for some time) to support it...

17  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Any interest in a Dreamcast system + games? on: February 15, 2006, 11:19:33 PM
I'm thinking of selling my Dreamcast. If you are interested, let me know. I haven't really decided on a price, so feel free to make an offer. I'm not interested in selling things seperately yet.

Dreamcast w/ 14 games, 2 controllers, 3 VMUs etc:

Dreamcast console, near mint physical condition. Internal battery is bad - the console works fine, but it asks for the time and date each time you power on.

A/V cable (stereo, composite video)

Power cord

2 controllers

2 contoller extension cords

1 rumble pack

3 VMUs (1 unopened) All batteries are probably dead, but they should save data okay.

(All software comes in its original jewel case with instructions)
Software:
Armada
Chu Chu Rocket!
Crazy Taxi
Crazy Taxi 2
Fur Fighters
Gauntlet Legends
Grandia II
Jet Grind Radio
Shenmue
Skies of Arcadia

Thanks.
21  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Turtle's Massive Civilization 4 Pitboss Game on: January 13, 2006, 09:11:52 PM
Are you guys actually playing turns every 12 hours, or does it come out to be more like once a day? I'd play, but I doubt I could play every 12 hours. Once a day, in the evening (CST), is about all I could swing.
22  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Civilization 4 GT PBEM on: January 13, 2006, 03:37:05 PM
Ah. Yeah, I made the connection now. smile Unfortunately I don't think I could play as often as every 12 hours. 24 seems like a more realistic number for me.
23  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Civilization 4 GT PBEM on: January 11, 2006, 11:11:31 PM

26  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Freedom Force v. Third Reich copy protection on: January 01, 2006, 08:20:35 PM
Does the freedom force sequal use Starforce? If it does, I guess I'll exchange it or trade it because I won't have that crap on my PC. This website says it does: http://www.glop.org/starforce/#games but gamecopyworld says it uses SecuRom (which is fine).

Thanks.
27  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / MOO v. MOO2 - Fight! on: December 05, 2005, 11:18:41 PM
Which is the better game, Master of Orion or Master of Orion II? Why?

When MOO2 first came out, it seemed to me like it was a vastly superior game - it had a better presentation, custom races, multiple planets per system, much more detailed ship and colony construction, more detailed combat, it removed the limit on the number of ship designs, and multiplayer (which never seemed to work for me though).

However, going back to MOO, I have changed my mind somewhat. The ship design limit forces you to make hard choices. The "simple" colony construction removes a lot of seemingly pointless micro-management. It isn't possible to construct a "super" race like it is in MOO2 (and there is no "creative" trait). It seems like a much more elegant design for a strategy game - it doesn't dazzle the player with a lot of what are ultimately meaningless options (e.g. many of the ship-building options, multiple colonies per system, heroes etc).

I'm sure some here will disagree, and I am not saying I dislike MOO2. I just feel that MOO had a unique and elegant design that was somehow lost in MOO2. MOO2 feels more like "Master of Magic in space" than a real sequal to MOO.

Discuss. smile

How is advancement handled? Similiar to Morrowind? I never did like the "multipler" system.

30  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Silent Hunter 3 thread on: September 10, 2005, 02:10:24 AM
I really, really wanted this game, but for me, Starforce = Out! Maybe some day some version of this will come out without it, though.
31  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dungeon Siege 2: Widescreen Support? on: August 23, 2005, 10:00:52 PM

Odd, I have no issues whatsoever with the UI or Fonts running at 1600x1200 on my 21" LCD. Looks quite nice actually

Maybe they fixed this from the demo then (I don't have the full game)? Can anyone verify that the fonts and UI are differently sized in the full version versus the demo?
32  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dungeon Siege 2: Widescreen Support? on: August 22, 2005, 10:09:46 PM
If the stupid UI and fonts scaled with the screen resolution (like pretty much any other recent game), these resolutions would actually be useful... as it is though, things are WAY too small at 1600x1200 on my 21" LCD.

35  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dungeon Siege II: Anyone care? on: August 05, 2005, 08:15:25 PM
Two things didn't impress me off the bat.

1) No widescreen resolutions listed in the video configuration. You have to enable it with a commandline option. Come on, guys, it's not that hard to add a few more options to a drop down. (widescreengamingforum.com is a good site for info on such things)

2) The UI and font at 1280x1024 (I didn't find out about the widescreen until this morning) are TOO FREAKING SMALL. Why can't they make a UI/font that scales with resolution? Much older games have had this (and NWN even has an alternative font you can use). Why, why, why?

Maybe the game itself will be fun, but after firing it up and seeing these issues, I decided I should try again another day so I can give the gameplay a fair shake.

Maybe I'm just too picky.

I hope the advancement system is improved quite a bit. It was quite stupid advancing skills you didn't care about just to get the "multiplier".
38  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Falcon 4.0 Allied Force on: July 24, 2005, 04:32:03 PM
Imagine my surprise when I saw this sitting on the shelf at the local BestBuy! I had heard NOTHING about this (which, I guess since it's not a FPS, is typical). Has anyone picked this up? How is it improved over Falcon4? Does anyone know of good websites where people are talking about this?

Thanks.
39  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Level 5 (Dark Cloud, DQ8) announces Rogue Galaxy on: July 22, 2005, 09:28:58 PM
so wait a minute .. the same company that did Dark Cloud 2 also did Dragon Quest 8?

I guess I need to check that out then... DC2 is one of the best games I've ever played. Not only was the game itself excellent, but it seemed like a very polished, high quality, attention-to-detail title. I know DQ8 is a different kind of game, but if it has that same polish to it, it's a must-buy for me.

Fate would be great if it didn't have that DRM WildTanget crap associated with it. Rumor has it there will be alternative ways to buy the game, so I am hopeful.
