Aaaand I closed the weekend with a quick fun romp playing Jamestown on Steam in Divine difficulty (retro-style top-down space shooter game with an alternate story background). Reached the final boss, got my ass handed back to me (limited continues, alas...).
Oh, I've been feeding the addiction with classics...
So I've been going down this weekend with Hexen: Beyond Heretic (with GZDoom, of course) aaaand the continuing adventures of Wilfrido Cagafuego (Fireshitter) in Baldur's Gate I (using BGT mod so I will eventually connect it with the 2nd game). Gotta love the classics.
Curiously enough, I only ended up finding only 4 bosses difficult, the rest being chumps. Flamelurker was the toughest for me, False King being a 2nd, although I, oddly, didn't die fighting him. Penetrator 3rd, Biorr helped me with him and a possible 4th would be Astarea, or more likely, her bodyguard Vinland (fought him once, got my ass handed back to me...decided to kill the bitch from afar with arrows).
Messed a bit with the graphical settings to make it look sexier, asked for a restart, did that (Game, Steam and PC, in that order) and the game ALWAYS stops working in the THQ logo (after the blast and the roaches wandering around). Always. I've tried doing all sorts of stuff from the Steam forums (including deleting files, moving files, uninstalling/reinstalling, etc...), but so far....nyet.
My rig is Windows 7 64-bit, 6 ddr2 gigs, 2.53 GHz dual-core, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 and so on, so forth....oh Lord...I want to play it...HELP!!!
I love how this game kicks my ass, but still rocks...
Finished world 2, only got the last boss of world 1 to go...all other 3 worlds are intact (tackling Tower of Laria...gonna kill me some Mindflayer cousins...).
Also, anyone have a decent-ish list of where I can get X or Y types of stones for upgrading weapons?, seems I have to upgrade my weapons to +7 to use the demon boss souls for mega upgrades, true or false?
Only.....two.....more.....Spec Op missions.....left.....gah!
Wetwork and Snatch & Grab..............*raises fist in anger*
Mostly 'coz I know I should have finished Wetwork already, but last night just when I was about to win, I lose...
Spoiler for Hiden:
God conspired against me and made me point AND shoot ONE bullet at a hostage in the last room, after dispatching 3 of the 4 bad guys in there...I even had time to confirm he was a hostage.....Lord knows why I fired.
Probably punishment for enjoying the airport mission a bit too much....
Snatch & Grab - Frickin' juggernauts....
When I'm done, I shall join you guys in MP
And get my arse handed back to me over and over again...
Can't wait to finish getting stars in Spec Ops and finally join the multiplayer crowd.
Out of shits and giggles I went in with a friend to play the last Echo Spec Op in Veteran (Kill 15 Juggernauts). They grassed our asses a few times, but we developed a great strategy to mess every one of'em up: flashbangs, heavy machine guns and claymore mines
Fun stuff, juggernaut slaughter!
Can't seem to get a break in Catch & Grab though...
*Blackjacks both ravenvii and heloder for great Thiefy justice*
Buy and play and shush.
All 3 Thief games, yus.
But, srsly, they've not aged well, graphically speaking, but gameplay is still top notch, IMO, and don't be afraid of no zombies!!!
Favorite Thief overall would be The Metal Age (i.e. 2).
Also, there's a large community of fan mission makers from some forums I've been member for almost a decade (I'll gladly give the addy on PM so as to not break any forum rules or somesuch), got tons of replay value there 'coz a lot of FMs are better than the OMs (Original Missions) in both graphics (new texture/model packs fan-made), gameplay and level design
I must confess with some shame...about the 'Controversial Level'....
Spoiler for Hiden:
I smiled an evil smile when the elevator went *ding* and the double doors opened...I was the first to open fire into the thick of the crowd and never let up, taking the time to walk around, drink in the details of the massacre perpetrated by myself and my other "comrades", I even began to hum a tune to myself at some point while casually walking up to the wounded and offing them off with one shot, a short burst if I felt -extremely- evil or a knife stab. Then came the -real- opposition of the level and I laughed at their pitiful attempts to stop us. I laughed as I pelted their riot shields with my grenades and watched their corpses fly about, I was still doing some walking, and ocassional short running, and then I got to the end of the level thinking to myself what other horrors I'd have to commit...and then it happened, Makarov turned around and taught me what it was to be a cold murderous bastard. Shooting me at point blank range without so much as a blink of an eye, caught me by surprise as I watched in agony as the life poured out of me while they made their escape, staring in awe at what just happened....I smiled once more and went on to replay the mission.
No piracy here. I left the habit of piracing console games years ago (almost a decade, actually). In fact, the only console I actually got some pirated games for was the PSX, so go figure how long it's been.
For the PC I have been more flexible (specially with old titles, can't get'em in Mexico, unless you import at outrageous prices, but then sites like Gog.com has made me turn a new leaf there too), though I only buy originals nowadays, I still have a few pirated copies (I know, mybad), mostly v. old games, but even those I try to replace if I can.
All in all, I am redeeming myself, slowly, but surely
Srsly....game kicks ass....I am afraid to play it in Veteran, but if I could beat Mile High Club, I can beat anything!!!
