1  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / tie fighter (PC) on: June 28, 2014, 04:41:07 AM
The other day I was talking to my buddy about old days, old games.  How we used to always have a joystic / flight stick, something I haven't owned in years.  We were talking about some old favorites, comanche Maximum overkill, etc.   Then Wing commander, etc.  and I remembered the game Tie Fighter.  I remember liking it better then the wing commanders at the time, and honestly consider it and privateer to be best of the ebst when it came to pew pewing in space ships.

I want to serve the emperor and get those funky tattoos burned into my arm.  Clear up some old memories , that can be faded or even wrong.  I do remember loving the game.

I own a nice library on gog, but this is not there.  No idea why its not there, but whatever.  (I love gog and wish every game I could ever want in the past and future could be gotten on gog.)

I think my son will like it too, if I can find it and get it to work.

Anyone got any ideas on getting this game and getting it to work on a windows 7 computer?

computer is in.  I played might and magic as well as the wizardry series back in the day.

I am ready to jump on this, but wanted to make it clear.   This game is a buy for a guy like me right?

Steam, standard edition or delux edition?

Sony PS brand headsets hook right up easy and work fine.  Just hit the button on the side.

The latest if the gold wireless headset.

Always been that way as far as I know.   Don't even have to go into settings.
5  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/XB1/PS4/360/PS3] Thief on: March 10, 2014, 10:25:40 PM
I never noticed voice over thing being that bad.  One time, I overheard a chick telling some dude about some loot near a fireplace.  I broke into the house near by and sure enough, a hidden panel by the fire place.  Other times I wasnt able to find what the people on the street were talking about.

I have heard some repetitiveness, but it hasnt annoyed me near as much as it did skyrim.   But I am only halfway through chapter 5, but I did complete all the side quests.   So maybe theyll start grating soon, probably will notice them now that you have talked about it argh.

7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/XB1/PS4/360/PS3] Thief on: March 10, 2014, 02:45:01 PM
I really love this game, as much as I remember liking any thief game.  I have played them all at release, and have gog versions I flirt with still from time to time.

I really do not understand how this thing keeps pulling in reviews of 50/100, or 2.5 /5

But, I guess my taste in games is different from others.   Its a thief game and holds true to previous thief games.  I like it, except for the Asylum is giving me the creeps.  I just hope they sell enough copies so they make the next one, other then that, I don't really give 2 shits what the reviews say.

I think Gaming Trend review nailed it.  I was afraid the game sucked after reading initial review from komataku, (or whatever the name of it is.)

I am glad Thief is Thief.  :-)

I could never get past the texture loading pop up every time you turned.

I had read about that here, swore that I did not see it.  Then went hope and tried it, and I could see it.

Luckily I was able to re ignore it  and never noticed again.   Sometimes when you read about a problem on a game that you never noticed it can ruin it for you.
13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 2890 Days until launch. Which system are you getting? on: February 14, 2014, 02:01:04 PM
Most of my sons friends had xbox 360s and played multiplayer with each other.  They almost all went PS4 this time.

I told him I was thinking about getting a xbone so we would have both.   He said if you are going to buy another console, get a 2nd PS4 so we can play together at the same time.   He has no interest in the xbone.   Yea, he is a spoiled brat.   Just letting you know why the ps4 sales have not surprised me.  I just watch the teens.

I am putting together a gaming PC so titan fall should be covered.   I am still watching the xbone though, because I think I want one.   For gears of war, if nothing else.   Plus, buy one now and get 8 years of solid gaming...   Why not?
14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: RAGE (id Software) on: February 14, 2014, 01:36:01 PM
I played through the entire game 2x..  And if I get a itch I would play it again.   I really like it, and I didn't get why it didn't become popular.

I sometimes would spend all night just playing the card game. And I loved the racing, I would play the races over till I maxxed out the points.

PS4 system update coming tonight to allow Pulse headsets to work wirelessly with the PS4.

Hello PlayStation Nation! The next system software update for PlayStation 4 (version 1.60) will be available for download beginning late tonight, bringing support for the PULSE and PULSE Ė Elite Edition wireless stereo headsets to PS4. We know youíve been patiently waiting for this update, which means PS4 owners will now be able to enjoy an enhanced gaming experience with 7.1 virtual surround sound and crystal clear voice chat with our official PlayStation headsets. PlayStation headsets are created for PlayStation gamers, by gamers Ė and designed to truly provide the audio that game developers intended. Itís truly how games were meant to sound.

I want to buy the gold set.   I wonder when they will hit the stores?
17  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PS4 headset? Best surround sound headset? other must have accessories? on: February 07, 2014, 03:07:04 PM
Just read that PS4 got updated and can now use the PS3 headsets.  Also supposed to release a new PS4 headset soon, with surround sound, around $100 bucks.

Gold Pulse or something like that.   So, I am going to hold out for it.

I am getting ready to place a order to cyberpower PC.  I always build my PCs, but this time I am just ordering one because I do not feel like researching it or messing with it anymore.  Maybe I am getting old.   I used to build amd and intel, etc. and they were always leap frogging each other.  I like both brands.  Same with video cards.

If they are close enough that I can flip a coin, thats fine too.  I hope to put this machine on order by this weekend..  Thanks for any input.

PC main use will be playing games.  Hopefully costs are around $1000 total.

Anyways, I know its never a simple answer but I am going to ask for a simple answer anyways.

Best Proc brand ?
Best Video card brand?
Windows 7 64 or windows 8.1 64?

thanks fellas

I havnt bought the expansion.  This game and "the last of us" are my two favorites from last year.

Are they going to port this puppy over to the PS4?  If not, I guess ill just buy the expansion on the ps3 and swap between consoles until I get sick of xcomm and borderlands 2.
20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PS4 headset? Best surround sound headset? other must have accessories? on: January 25, 2014, 08:00:42 PM
I think I can finally get a PS4 without paying extra or jumping through hoops.  I plan on buying it in about 2 weeks.   I also need accessories.  Charger, eye, xtra controller, etc.

My favorite headset (after going through several) for the PS3 was the Sony brand headset. It doesn't have surround sound although I think the new model does.  Its comfortable, no wires, and it just works.

I have been playing ghosts. I need surround sound so I can use amplify effectively.

So, has Sony came out with a new headset for the PS4?   If not, will my old one work?  Should I buy the sony PS3 set that has surround sound and just use it?

Any other bad ass, must have accessories I should consider buying for the new PS4?   I think I am also going to get one of those mini keyboards this time.  I couldn't justify the cost before on the PS3.  But, the PS4 should be around for almost a decade, I want be able to type netflix searches easily.

Sorry for bouncing around topics, But I wanted to check in on my favorite gamers forums to see whats new and what ya guys suggest.

Yea.   But check out the new trusted blue tooth device settings.   You enable that and as long as you are in range of the device no screen lock.
There are 'chips'  or a smart watch.   A blue tooth speaker.   A key chain called zomm. Fitbit.  Nike band. Anything thats bluetooth can be a trusted device.

I  am personally waiting on the vybe bracelet. Cool stuff :-)

How to keep the Moto X unlocked with Bluetooth devices
If you use a pattern lock or a PIN then itís a pain when youíre in the car or connected to your Moto X via a Bluetooth headset and the screen keeps locking. Thankfully thereís a nifty feature to get round it. Go to Settings > Security and choose Trusted Devices and you can pick paired Bluetooth devices that are trusted. Now your Moto X wonít lock when youíre in the car or using your headset

You're right. I skimmed my article quickly and missed that it was just working from the home screen.

Yea, not knocking anyone's phones, I love all smart phones.  I was torn between this and the G2.  I am sure the next gen phones will all have the touch less stuff .

I honestly thought it would just be a neat gimmick.

I mainly got the X because I thought it would be sturdy with the Kevlar and all.  I also liked the size of it, vanilla android, etc.

But the touch less stuff really surprised me. Its not a gimmick, it is useful.  (I even got somewhat of a hillbilly accent and it has no problems with my voice.)

So, I made this post to give a heads up on this phone.

Somehow my son has it recognizing his voice, so he keeps knocking his sister out of plants vs zombies 2.  I am getting tired of hearing "ok google now" over and over when those two are in the car, heh.

It sounds like the voice activation will work with other phones running KitKat. Below a site got it by hacking the google launcher from the Nexus 5 update on other phones. I would guess, that when phones get "officially" updated to KitKat, that they will also offer this feature. Still, cool for the Moto X to be ahead of the curve on this feature.

Hrmm, I do not think I am being clear.

From that article
copy/paste: While before today, most Android devices worked with voice activated access to Google Search only through the Google Search or Google Now app itself, the newest in Android technology allows it from the app or from any home screen

The Moto X listens when the the phone is "asleep".  You do not have to wake it up.  It is listening when the screen is black.  The only phones that can do this is the motorola X and the Droid Maxx.  Not even the nexus 5 can do this.

You can make a phone call, make it scream to find the phone, or get the weather outside, navigate to wherever, etc. without ever touching the phone.   When you say "ok google now" the phone wakes up, you do not have to touch any buttons.

The phone knows when you are driving, you do not have to tell it your driving.  It then reads texts, answers phone calls etc. without you ever touching the phone.

See this article and this quote:

First of all, the "OK Google" command will be hardware-dependent. Google isn't saying exactly what the required silicon is, but at the moment, only the Nexus 5 will have access to the feature - even the other Nexus devices due to be updated won't be able to join in. Second, the "OK Google" command works on the home screen in Android 4.4... but not when the screen is off. That removes the "touchless" aspect of Touchless Control, essentially extending the "OK Google" voice command from Google Now throughout Android. It's not clear whether this is a technical limitation (possibly having to do with the contextual cores on Motorola's semi-custom X8 SoC hardware) or simply a feature that's been reserved for Motorola's branded devices.

I thought that the "Okay Google" feature was part of the new Android KitKat update.  I know that a lot of Android phones will be coming out with this feature in the future.  My Samsung S3 is supposed to be getting it soon.  I'm glad that you like your phone but I don't think this one feature will be unique to Moto X for much longer.

It can have Google now but you will still have to use your hand to wake it up.    The Motorola have a dedicated core for just this purpose.  In order for other companies to get it they will have to change the architecture.   It is not possible on any other phone at this time.

How badly and how quickly do you want one? Do you need one day one? This may well turn out to be like PS3 launch where anticipation may outstrip demand. I remember Wii auctions lasting a long time after launch(mainly supported by the non-gamer interest in Wii sports) but ps3 ones petered off quickly.

No.  I just need it by Christmas.  But after Thanksgiving the women shoppers around here are brutal.  Brutal parking lot drivers and will grab something out of your cart if you turn you head and they need it, heh.

Never again.   So you think I may just be able to stroll into gamestop in a couple of weeks and grab one off the shelf?

If I didn't have the 12 year old son I would wait till sometime in January or February.

Sounds like a great phone if you drive a lot and want to interact with your phone while doing so. Cheap as well. Still wouldn't buy one over a Nexus 5. If I was going to make the switch from iOS, that would be the phone. Of course the Nexus is a lot more expensive.

To each his own. The nexus 5 cannot be used on Verizon, but I would not trade my X for it even if it did.  Battery life is very important to me and I cannot say enough about the unique features.  There is no going back for me.

Here is a discussion comparing the two. Some of the posters have both phones.

Here is a nexus 5 review.

Lots of comparison to the Moto X in that review.  Pay close attention to the conclusion.

But is it the best Android phone? That's tougher to answer. It's almost hard to believe, but the scrappy little Moto X, with its comparatively meagre 720p screen and dual-core 1.7GHz processor, gives the Nexus 5 a run for its money. The Moto X has form-factor on its side. It also has innovation; the touchless controls and active display are features I genuinely missed when I switched to the Nexus, and the rest of the Moto X OS is really very close to stock Android. Plus, you can customize the hell out of it. That said, it's not nearly as future-proof, updates will come slower, and if you want it off-contract and customized you're looking at about $480.

We'll let the question of the Moto X loom in the air, but we'd definitely take the Nexus 5 over the HTC One or Galaxy S4 or Droid Maxx. If you're into specs or if you're an Android purist, then this is definitely the phone for you.

What is special about it? What functions does it have that separates it from its competition? What makes it better than one of the higher end Android phones?

I thought the Moto X was just another Android phone that lets you choose its colors. Am I missing something? From what have read the Nexus 5 is the Android phone to get right now.

Here is a pretty techie review and it gets pretty deep on the moro X unique architecture.

Here is a review thats a little lighter, but attempts to explain the features.

You really got to use it to understand, but I will try to describe what makes it so good.

The first is called Moto assist.   When I get in my car and start driving, the phone knows that I am in my car driving.   If someone texts me, it will read the text to me.  it will also reply back to them and let them know I am driving and will get back to them as soon as possible.

I can say ok google now, call grandma and it calls her.  If someone calls me, it tell me who is calling and if I say answer, it answers with the speaker phone.

The phone is always listening.  All you have to do is say "Ok google now and it wakes up".  For example, if I can't find it before work, I say "ok google now , find my phone"  The phone starts making a loud noise so that I can find it under the pillow on the couch.

Ok google now, navigate to (whatever) and off it goes...  All without even touching the phone.    Getting dressed before work.  Ok google now, whats the weather?  it spits out the weather.

Read the reviews and they can explain in better detail then I can.  But, it is not just a gimick.  It is useful.  everday, expecially when driving.

It also made of kevlar, fits well in the hand, battery lasts me all day, etc.

I love the phone.  More than any phone I have ever had.   So I thought I would let you guys know.   I am sure its not for everyone, but if you are buying a phone soon, you should look hard into the X.

Here is a forum with lots of discussion.  There is a pages long thread comparing it to the nexus 5 too.

What are the special functions you like so well?

Yes I would.  It is almost vanilla android and is easy to use.   Here is a thread you might like to read.

I paid $50 bucks for it on amazon, although in a few days Verizon will get motomaker.

I am a gadget freak.

I was the first in my office with a blackberry.  Also got the first touchscreen blackberry, the storm.
I was the first in my office with the Droid 1.  I jumped on windows phone 7 when it came out.  I really liked my Iphone 5.   Last December I went back to Android and jumped on a HTC DNA.   Very sweet, quad core processor, etc.

Giving this for a background before I tell you about my recent purchase.   The Moto X.

I just got a Moto X last week from amazon on the Verizon network.  Wow.  It really is a special phone.  I do not think I could ever go back to a phone that does not have its special functions.
If you are coming up to the end of your contract I highly recommend you take a serious look at the Moto X.

IMO, it is a game changer.  Just a FYI to my buddies and a heads up to anyone getting ready to purchase a phone.

Yea, when it was fist announced I took $50 bucks to gamestop to pre order.  They told me I had to lay down 100.

So on payday I went back and they told me no more preorders.  ARGH!!

I guess I will get my check and just hit all the stores and hope I get one.  But I am afraid with so many people going from xbox to the playstation it may be hard to find.  I just want to get it tagged, bagged and ready to go under the tree as fast and painless as possible.

I hate shopping except online.   I guess I posted this hoping someone has a secret or something, heh.  But thanks for the info turtle, I'll check target first.  It is the closest one to my house.

Is it coming out friday the 15th ?  I actually get paid thursday night, I wonder if I should go stand in line somewhere that is having a midnight launch.  I have not done that before for anything, but might be willing.  My luck I would do it and end up not getting it for some reason.

I just got a bad feeling, my 12 year old son said all kids at school who previously were die hard xbox fans are all in for the ps4 this time.

I like the ps3 controller better then the xbox 360 controller.   So I hope they did not change it too much.

Or am I still going to have to buy a 2nd ps4?

Unless it is able to run multi screen that is..
