48  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Philips Mitsubishi DLP Bulb on: December 05, 2015, 04:18:24 PM
I had an aging Mitsubishi 65" DLP TV that I decided to replace the (original 8yo) lamp in as shockingly, it was getting dimmer and dimmer. Bought this genuine Philips replacement in May and the difference was night and day. Only problem was about two or three weeks later the actual DLP chip starting going bad with mirrors getting stuck and rather than keep fixing things decided to put it out to pasture and get something more better. So now I have a perfectly good DLP bulb sitting around here with very few hours on it and nothing to put it in so wondering if anyone might need one? The link shows the models it is known to work in.

Paid $90, looking for $40. Thanks.

So, when can sites put up their reviews of Fallout 4?

Nobody can answer that, BECAUSE IT WAS EMBARGOED.

Yes, that's right - no site could tell ANYONE ELSE when they could post a review (which has an embargoed time/date, mind you), because that information WAS EMBARGOED TOO.

This is actually standard practice and has been for a while. We just don't get to hear about it because these embargoes are under NDA. Luckily some of the review sites have had enough. The very recently launched OpenCritic (everyone, please start using this instead of Metacritic) has deals with a number of anonymous review sites where they are supplied these "secret" embargoes. This means the review embargo date for Fallout 4 has been known for a while already. All these embargo dates are posted clearly on OpenCritic.

Read this Polygon article on the subject on Flipboard, there's a little more information on the practice in it.
53  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Playing through the Uncharted series for the first time on: October 25, 2015, 02:01:07 PM
I played (most of) the series back in the day and this has reminded me of my experience as well. I was blown away by it originally, even writing to ND to tell them so and got a reply back from 'the team', which as cool. Pistol and AK-47 for me as well. And then I hit one of those seemingly endless spawning sections and got frustrated as hell. I had to step away for a goodly period of time and then come back at it with a fresh brain. Until the next one. Did eventually finish it, one of the few games I own that I've actually completed. Wish that was true of the others, got most of the way through 2 and never started 3 even though I bought it, just never got back to it with my PS3 backlog. icon_frown

Picked up the collection for the PS4 and restarted playing with the second one. Good times.  thumbsup

10GB 1.03 update patch:

*Fixes to prevent progression blocker in Episode 9 (including fix for existing save games suffering from the issue)
*Option for inverted Y aiming controls added to Settings menu
*Fixes for unlocking “Ashley Snaps” and “The Exorcism of Emily” trophies
*Various bug fixes

Been holding off on this since there wasn't exactly a dearth of others to play, with the invert option added spent a couple of hours with this.  thumbsup Had no clue earlier that Mr. Robot's Elliot was in it along with all those other folks... mostly because I didn't know the name Rami Malek. So I can see the four albums on Amazon but where are the "handful of singles"? I found "The World We Lost"  thumbsup at Bandcamp and guessing that is one as it doesn't seem to be on any of the albums. Can you point me in the right direction?

Cephus and To Coexist is to Surrender are on their Bandcamp page, click "More Releases" on the right side.  I've only listened to Andromeda on Youtube...not sure where to download that one.  It streams on the Wiki page as well.

FWIW, the albums get stronger as they go, with Acheron being my personal favorite by a long shot.  You don't necessarily lose anything by listening to them out of order (just read the story background on the Wiki to get a basic understanding), so I'd recommend Acheron as a starting point to gauge if they're your thing or not.

Thanks for that - I've been a fan of concept albums since I first put needle to vinyl so this kind of thing could be right up my alley in an epic way. I was also impressed that one of the band members was on the Wikia helping explain the story and timeline. Didn't really help me much, of course.  icon_smile

I'd be curious what you love about it as I've owned them all but have a hard time actually playing any of them for any length of time before giving up. And I still have Ground Zeroes. Un-played.  icon_frown

Was trying to find a YouTube review of it I'd seen from someone who was less than impressed but I wasn't logged in so have no history to back through. He got very worked up, might have had an accent and was constantly ringing a bell (like the kind you'd have on a service desk - ding! ding!) whenever he made a 'point'. What I remember was the 'open world' aspect of it wasn't really all that open (roads only?) and the AI was supposed to be bad. Anyone know whom that might be?

I don't know why you'd focus on some Youtuber when the game is critically acclaimed from essentially every gaming site out there...

Anyhoo, as to your questions.  Afghanistan is sort of funneled into roads and canyons, but you can still basically go anywhere in it as you see fit, Africa on the other hand does have wide open plains so that complaint (which I think is rather unfounded really) is addressed in the second zone.  As to the AI it can be dumb, but does a reasonable job, it investigates when your noisy or sees something, checks last known positions, shoots down fultons, and wakes up sleeping soldiers.  Yeah you can make it do some dumb stuff if you try but like, what game can't you do that in?

Graphically the game looks great, and runs at a solid 60fps on consoles.

Gameplay it really shines.  The controls, specifically in shooter mode which I'm using, make a lot of sense.  So that's one way it's been improved over previous games.  The other thing is it is very much a stealth/combat sandbox whereas I feel the previous games (and frankly most stealth games) got a little too puzzley.  This does not suffer from that problem, you don't feel like you are trying to solve a puzzle, and more that you are coming up with a strategy.  You can go loud or quiet, and the game gives you numerous tools for either approach.  You have sleep grenades, decoys, stun grenades, mines, emp mines, sleep mines, anti-vehicular mines, c4, silenced weapons, stun weapons, a vast array of guns from pistols to assault rifles, to sniper rifles to grenade and rocket launchers and machine guns, to eventually being able to fully customize and build your own guns from parts of others.  You get to choose the time of day or night and the general approach you take to infiltrating a base, you can even call in air strikes or helicopter overwatch.

Then there is the extra strategy layer of managing your base, research, and sending teams on combat missions.

Thanks for that, helps with deciding on going in on yet-another MGS game or not.  icon_wink

And I wasn't "focusing" on any one in particular, just would like to go back and hear his rant again now that I've been off in happy review land for awhile. Got the impression he had a whole string of reviews with this little bell so thought maybe someone could point me in the right direction. No big.

Question, will going through Ground Zeroes actually give me a good idea as to what Phantom Pain will be like?

Yeah that was annoying.  That said, I was really impressed with much of the rest of this season.  I loved the Hunt for Red October submarine action plotline.  Some pretty convoluted/contrived plot situations but extremely well executed.  Haven't seen this style of ship to sub action in a long time and I really enjoyed it.  All in all I thought it was a more engaging season than the first.

Was a bit worried as to how they were going to have the Nathan James manage to take out the nuclear sub (it's not like that wasn't going to happen somehow) but I thought it worked out very nicely. thumbsup

I've seen it on the PS4 via my neighbor, but I own it on the PC, ultra settings. The PS4 looks excellent. To me the differences seem to be:

1) better framerate on PC
2) PS4 seems to be High settings, as opposed to Very High or Ultra

You cant go wrong with the PS4 version.

I'll echo the 'three pages max' suggestion, even with as much time as we old dudes have spent working. It doesn't need a ton of gory detail past the most recent couple, typically. And there was nothing I hated more than getting a resume to evaluate that was 14 pages of filler and I've seen longer!
