Hmmm... was interested in this from what little we've seen so far but this has really eliminated any of that for me barring great reviews of the final product:

Quote from: Joystiq, 10/2008
Unfortunately, this supposed "comedy shooter" is less "Shaun of the Dead" and more "Disaster Movie." Although it attempts to make fun of the shooter genre (and the industry as a whole), uninspired and mediocre gameplay mechanics hinder it from garnering the respect a proper parody needs. The poorly developed story elements also need serious reworking. The game's greatest asset, its unique premise, is stunted by generic game design -- and that's a pity.

ehm...what the heck? Installed the game, and it updated...now, its stuck on "Update starting"??? and wont do a single thing? tried to start the game, and all it said was "The game is currently unavailable"?????
Mine did the same thing. Went into the game properties and 'Validated' the game files, after that it was fine.

I think my save file numbers were closing in on 500 when I quite after 106 hours. However, I only kept around a dozen at any given time and was diligent about keeping them pruned.

Excellent! Loved that game and it's my little brother's all time favorite game. Hell, I just replaced his ancient computer with a quad and the first thing he installed? Alice.  nod

Same concerns about American McGee's post-Alice track record, however.

Well... on the PS3 front, you can use any "laptop", i.e. 2.5" form factor SATA hard drive. Pretty painless, I put a 250GB WD into mine, was pretty dang painless. Biggest thing is deciding what you really need to backup/restore and getting a large enough thumb drive.

Yeah, I kind of want to move everything over.  Looks like I'd need @ 50GB to back it up.

I'd be surprised if you really needed everything. I deleted all of the games that installed themselves to the hard drive, not the saves or anything of that nature but the games themselves and any downloaded updates, some of which were 4 or 5GB apiece. First time you run them post upgrade, all that comes back. And the System Backup the PS3 does will not span media and you've got no ability to pick and choose what to backup, so keep those two things in mind.

It is. The Wii motion controls in Okami were decent and make the painting brush strokes easier. I did somewhat miss the 'rice paper' look that the PS2 version had, however.

Picked this up last night but really didn't have much time to play. Grabbed the Nyko pistol as well, works more better than the Zapper for stuff like this. Love the grindhouse style, but had to warn a friend who was thinking about picking this up who has a wee one and a sensitive wife that he'll need to play it when they're out of earshot as there is quite a bit of naughty language in it... even in the menus.  icon_wink

Cool that one of the unlockables is "Dual Wield mode". May need to buy another pistol, it seems.

Power parking?

High speed emergency brake parking between two other parked cars, one where you end up facing the opposite direction you started the manuever from.

My biggest gripe at the moment is the fact that you can't invert the X-axis and it seems completely ass-backwards to me. To me it's counter-intuitive to come up to an intersection in an alley, want to go left and have to push the stick to the right to do that. mad

For the restart, it's "right" on the d-pad or arrows for the normal "EZ Drive" stuff and you'll see one of two new options - Restart current event if you're in one, or Restart previous event for the last one you completed.
3222  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Burnout Paradise update out on: February 06, 2009, 07:47:05 AM
It's out, mine updated to 1.60 when I cranked it up late this afternoon. Got the new stuff, restarts and all.

3223  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Burnout Paradise : DEMO IMPRESSIONS! (newfangled poll too!) on: February 05, 2009, 07:34:39 PM
If you watch Episode 21 of "Crash TV" on the Criterion site you'll see them restarting a race. From what I recall, it's off the "EZ Drive menu" but don't recall exactly where... sorry.

Initial reviews over at Gameranking average 69%. IGN gave it a 6.6...

It sucks that Afro Samurai isn't awesome. If you take the plunge and buy this game, there will be times when you'll be playing, having a blast, and think that I'm full of crap. Falling through the air while brawling with Afro Droid while rocking out to some fat beats is an amazing experience, but when you couple that with a piss-poor camera, terrible platforming sections, and cheap/mentally challenged bosses, the end product suffers.

Don't doubt that there is fun to be had with Afro Samurai, but be ready to deal with a lot of lame to get to it.

Argh... you can only invert the Y-axis (which I don't need to) but for some stupid reason you cannot invert the X-axis which is ass-backwards to me. Never mind that you have to quit the game to tweak any options.  mad

Don't think this is really any kind of a spoiler but just in case:

Spoiler for Hiden:
You are helping the Outcast group get into a locked vault / cache of weapons, I assume from the period in question. The only way to unlock the vault is to complete the simulation campaign and they need you to do that for them. Once complete, you (apparently) get your pick from the cache in question.

how is it with these PSP games, can they be played on the PS3, or is that just a select few?

I don't think they can ever be played on PS3, at least not in the conventional sense.  There are some games, like Echochrome, that have versions on both PSN (for PS3) and PSP but it's technically not the same game.  PS1 titles can be played on both, however.

You might be thinking of "Remote Play" where certain PS3 games can be played on the PSP, where the game still runs on the PS3 but streams wirelessly to the PSP and is controlled / played from there. It doesn't work the other way, however.

Are they? I don't think I've ever seen an adult wearing one. Maybe it's a regional thing. Or maybe I'm not very observant. Or maybe I run with the heartless.

I don't think they are popular but they certainly were popular a few years ago. As noted, you can blame Lance for starting it all off. I have a bunch around somewhere, used to wear a couple at a time and then just stopped. Biggest annoyance I remember with some of them was that they would pick up the oils from your skin and get kind of... slickery... for lack of a better word. Soap and water would take care of that. Or a shot of penicillin, I forget which.

I wrapped up all the quests that give achievements (with the exception of Strictly Business, which I guess punished me for killing the quest giver after taking the quest)

I'm in the same boat, quest-wise, as I too accepted that one and then killed the quest-giver when I decided I wasn't about to go through with it. Didn't think of it as punishment, however, more like a natural consequence of the decision seeing as there's really no way to complete it after that. Had a similar problem with "Head of State" but continued retrying that one until they didn't get their sorry asses killed on that final trek. And no, I wasn't about to babysit them the whole dang way. disgust

Hrm... you may want to revisit the Strictly Business quest, especially if you didn't ask around about the quest giver. There is a particularly nasty item as a reward, and I am still a saint of the wastes even after doing it (meaning you don't have to be evil to finish it)

Are you referring to...

Spoiler for Hiden:
The Mesmetron? I got that and the slave collar when I accepted the quest. I then decided I wasn't about to run around and enslave those folks, so put a bullet in the quest-giver's head, which promptly failed the quest for me.

And then I wasted the entire town.  icon_razz  Oh, and at 102 hours and basically all the achievements I can get with this character, it's time to set this aside and move on to something else. At least until the DLC hits.

I just fast traveled to the Lincoln Memorial and waited for them.  They got there just fine.

I read you could do that but it really didn't work for me. The first time the leader got killed seconds after I accepted the quest when he ran outside to fight a Deathclaw and lost. Second time I killed it before accepting but after fast traveling and waiting... and waiting... they never showed up. Restored back and tried to guard the little caravan but a short ways down the road he and the stone mason ran off and got killed by a Deathclaw / Giant Radscorpian tag team before I could get over and help them. Tried again and this time took them further before fast travelling and they still didn't show up. I'd read you may need to wait 6 hours, I'd waited over a full day with no sign of them, even after checking the Metro exits as I'd heard they can get hung up there. One more time, escorted them further before fast travelling and after waiting a piece they finally showed up standing around the Metro exit. Trucked over there and got credit for the quest. Finally. Thank Gawd.
