So... rather than enable play from the SD card, it still has to copy it to system memory first - it just happens in an automated fashion. Now I'm curious, will we need to manually clean up behind it or will it remove the 'temporary' copy once you quit the game?

I keep thinking about looking around for something like this but never pulled the trigger on one. Nyko has something with a built-in charger so you (allegedly) get the grips plus extended play time. Need to find someplace where one can actually wrap their hands around it. Target seems to sell both online but they're "not available in stores". GameStop seems to be the other way 'round. icon_neutral

I hit level 20 last night and now all progress on the game will stop much to my chagrin as I am loving it again.

I wish they would have made the extended level cap DLC the next one instead of the one after this.  Surely the devs must know that people are close or already past the level cap...seems to be a no brainer to me.

Read the last few paragraphs of the blog entry Sarkus linked to, it will help explain why 'Broken Steel' is taking the most time to deliver.

I don't have any issues with download speeds on my PS3 and I don't recall having to do anything special. Now, I do have it wired and I checked that NAT Type 2 is what is configured. I went to on both my PC and PS3, the PS3 got better results from the same server even though the screen animations were really... slow...

PC:   22402 kb/s down; 2409 up
PS3: 31547 kb/s down; 2241 up

My 360 seems to download at comparable speeds but I have no clue how to really test it.  icon_frown

Of course it will smile Why would we take that out?

Good question. The only reason I've seen that come up here and even on usenet is the fact that the recently release trailer shows quite a bit of run-and-gun FPS style shooting and not one example of VATS. For all we knew it was specific to the storyline... whatever controls VATS (Pipboy? Implant? Goa'uld symbiote?) was confiscated / deactivated as part of the plot.  icon_wink

There's no install step on the 360, for one. The PS3 will automatically install if you shut it down during a background download and tick the box to complete the download(s) first. It will download, install and then power off. And 'foreground' downloads will automatically install, but yes the background ones require a manual install step otherwise.

Ah... found it and it took awhile to convince the guy to pick it up. Once I had it, though, it was just a matter of sneaking around behind the building the tank had stopped in front of to just off the rear of the tank. Two shots and it was toast. Of course, the tank crew then bailed out and killed Bazooka Joe.  icon_cry

After that you get to call in air support to take out two more tanks coming in the same route and then the scenario ends.

remembered where I was in a movie if I have to interupt playback while watching a blu ray disc.  I'm not sure if it's just my system (I thought they were supposed to include a resume function in one patch, and seem to remember it actually doing so at some point), but if I accidentally hit stop while watching anything on blu ray I have to start over at the beginning and go through scene selection to find my previous spot.

Hmmm... I've had this work just fine for me, but I don't recall if I hit stop or not. I'll have to play with this, but from what I recall there's a 'triangle' button option to 'Play' the movie or 'Replay from the beginning' with the former supposed to pick up where you left off. Not sure what the default is.  icon_neutral

I spent a few minutes with this and had the same bazooka issue, where the heck is it? There's no patch needed for the US retail release, yes? I assume it would ship with the latest (1.02?) version but can't find anywhere it will show me what version it is currently. Reason I ask is I got a nasty "NEBULA ASSERTION" crash yesterday with the whole 'Display driver has stopped working and has been restarted' shenanigans, so wondered if there was a patch.

programmer says: Lock() on vertex buffer failed in nD3D9Mesh()
expression: FAILED(hr)
file: ..\src\gfx2\
line: 516

Updated drivers (only one release back, I think) but haven't play again to test it yet. May try disabling the "high res texture pack" and see if that helps.

That's what I was wondering, perhaps it was delisted? From the XBLA wiki:

In an effort to "focus on quality over quantity", Microsoft will begin to delist older underperforming Arcade titles. In order for a game to be delisted it must be at least six months old, with an average score of below 65% on review-aggregator website Metacritic, and a less than 6% conversion rate. Microsoft will give a three month notice prior to delisting these titles. Curiously, delisted titles won't be removed from Xbox live completely, they will just be inaccessible through Xbox live marketplace via normal methods. If you have already downloaded a delisted game, you can recommend it to another user, and they will receive a link to download the game.

Yah looks nice but there's no "sim" in it, really. It's more akin to "Ace Combat" than "Lock On". There's no take off or landings from what I've read, the cockpit is non-functional and you can't turn your head to speak of... they want you to use their outside third-person "dog-fight cam" instead. And while it may very well be a "success" if all you count are downloads, there's been quite a bit of discussions around about problems with the way the game was designed and plays, and the demo has turned off a lot of people who would normally have jumped on anything remotely "sim-like". And let's not get into the debate about "assistance off" versus "assistance on".  Roll Eyes

This was the first game I remember buying that 'required' a Pentium. The clerk selling it to me squinted and ask 'You do have a Pentium processor, don't you?'... Why, yes, of course! says my 486 DX2/66 owning self. Made it through most of the game before it bogged down and became unplayable near the end.  icon_frown

i think TiLT hit on the real cache information all over your computer, both in RAM and on the HD, during play.  when you exit a game, it takes time for the program to clean up after itself and remove all the data that it was using.  while the information stored in RAM can be cleared pretty quickly, clearing data from a HD takes longer and is most likely what is happening while your games is in the process of shutting down.  unfortunately, it's a necessary part of the process and there's not really much that you can do to speed things up.

That was in my first post.  icon_wink

OK. When you quit, is there alot of disk activity? Or is it where it takes a long time to slowly... erase... the... game... screen? Basically, what is the behaviour you're seeing while games are quitting?
3235  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Why do games take so long to quit? on: February 25, 2009, 10:02:05 PM
How much RAM is in your PC?  I've seen issues like that on systems with 1GB of RAM that basically went away with 2GB or more. It seems like memory has been swapped out and when you quit it's more work for it to 'release' all of it from the page/swap file rather than pure RAM, hence the delay.

I thought that was last week actually. It's not showing up on this week's EB releases, so I'm not quite sure.

Gamestop is showing it as 'usually ships in 24 hours' but none of the local stores has it yet.

Yeah, I just checked and it was not available at any of our stores yet either even though it is available within 24 hours.  Same thing with Puzzle Quest.  I guess I could just order both of them smile  Or I could get them from Amazon smile

Amazon was showing 2 to 3 weeks for Drakensang to ship, so I ended up ordering it from NewEgg - a couple of bucks off and free shipping right now. It went out that same day.

Quote from: Joystiq, 10/2008
Unfortunately, this supposed "comedy shooter" is less "Shaun of the Dead" and more "Disaster Movie." Although it attempts to make fun of the shooter genre (and the industry as a whole), uninspired and mediocre gameplay mechanics hinder it from garnering the respect a proper parody needs. The poorly developed story elements also need serious reworking. The game's greatest asset, its unique premise, is stunted by generic game design -- and that's a pity.
