Pretty sure that's part of the third DLC release - "Broken Steel" - in March.

how is it with these PSP games, can they be played on the PS3, or is that just a select few?

I don't think they can ever be played on PS3, at least not in the conventional sense.  There are some games, like Echochrome, that have versions on both PSN (for PS3) and PSP but it's technically not the same game.  PS1 titles can be played on both, however.

You might be thinking of "Remote Play" where certain PS3 games can be played on the PSP, where the game still runs on the PS3 but streams wirelessly to the PSP and is controlled / played from there. It doesn't work the other way, however.

Are they? I don't think I've ever seen an adult wearing one. Maybe it's a regional thing. Or maybe I'm not very observant. Or maybe I run with the heartless.

I don't think they are popular but they certainly were popular a few years ago. As noted, you can blame Lance for starting it all off. I have a bunch around somewhere, used to wear a couple at a time and then just stopped. Biggest annoyance I remember with some of them was that they would pick up the oils from your skin and get kind of... slickery... for lack of a better word. Soap and water would take care of that. Hrm... you may want to revisit the Strictly Business quest, especially if you didn't ask around about the quest giver. There is a particularly nasty item as a reward, and I am still a saint of the wastes even after doing it (meaning you don't have to be evil to finish it)

The Mesmetron? I got that and the slave collar when I accepted the quest. I then decided I wasn't about to run around and enslave those folks, so put a bullet in the quest-giver's head, which promptly failed the quest for me.

And then I wasted the entire town.  icon_razz  Oh, and at 102 hours and basically all the achievements I can get with this character, it's time to set this aside and move on to something else. At least until the DLC hits.

I just fast traveled to the Lincoln Memorial and waited for them.  They got there just fine.

I read you could do that but it really didn't work for me. The first time the leader got killed seconds after I accepted the quest when he ran outside to fight a Deathclaw and lost. Second time I killed it before accepting but after fast traveling and waiting... and waiting... they never showed up. Restored back and tried to guard the little caravan but a short ways down the road he and the stone mason ran off and got killed by a Deathclaw / Giant Radscorpian tag team before I could get over and help them. Tried again and this time took them further before fast travelling and they still didn't show up. I'd read you may need to wait 6 hours, I'd waited over a full day with no sign of them, even after checking the Metro exits as I'd heard they can get hung up there. One more time, escorted them further before fast travelling and after waiting a piece they finally showed up standing around the Metro exit. Trucked over there and got credit for the quest. Finally. Thank Gawd.

I plugged in my old 20 GB HD, and went to xbox.com to initiate the license transfer (which was a breeze) and all my stuff, including all my RB DLC is ready to go.

You may not care - but when you transfer your licenses (for example, when upgrading from a 20GB HD to a 120GB) - it can only be done once every twelve months.  I'm not sure if that applies in your situation, but you might want to check that out.

Microsoft has just a tiny paranoia problem...  ninja

Thanks for the heads up, Mytocles - I did the 'initiate license transfer' thing on xbox.com, which gives directions on how to to it on the 360, but so far I've been too busy (and lazy) to sit and do it yet (over 103 licenses to transfer! can't they have a 'transfer all' option?)

So I'll look more into it later. I may want to upgrade to a bigger HD for the new Jasper unit anyway.

No problem! If MS didn't make it so confusing, I'd be able to tell you whether your "initiate transfer" will bite you back later, but I'm not sure.  IF you are considering the 120GB HD, and IF they will allow the transfer, then it's a piece of cake - when you get the HD separately, it includes a cable and software to transfer everything at once.  Quite frankly, I'm completely confused about the whole thing now.  I upgraded one of my 360 HD's from a 20 to a 60GB, and the "transfer kit" didn't come with it.  While I was wrassling with MS's email support folks, I got impatient and moved everything over with a 512 memory card (two runs was all I needed).  Only one item wouldn't transfer, so it was no big deal for me, though it did take some time, even with as little as I had to move over.  I had no music, one Red vs. Blue video, and the rest was mostly game saves and a few gamer pics.

I can't even imagine how long it would take for you to move 103 licenses via mem card though  icon_eek - or how many could actually be moved that way.  All my Oblivion, Fable 2, and Infinite Undiscovery DL content went with no problem, along with everything else I cared about except one Zuma save file... I don't even play Zuma, so it was easy to decide.  Because of that, I haven't used up my once-a-year thing, which I'm glad about because I suspect there is either another 60GB on the horizon, or maybe a 120 if I want to go wild.   saywhat

A little confused by all this talk of worrying about the once every twelve months limit on license transfer when all you've replaced / upgraded is the hard drive. Everything I've seen says there's nothing to transfer as the licenses are tied to the console and not the hard drive.  Let's see...

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/faq.htm

I've just upgraded to a larger hard drive and am re-downloading all of my content. Do I need to transfer the content licenses?
No. The content licenses are associated with the console, not the hard drive.

FWIW, found this on the PS3 site:

Upscaling DVD Output Settings
Off: Disable upscaled output.
Double Scale*: Upscale and display with double horizontal and vertical dimensions without changing the proportions.
Normal: Upscale and display at a size that matches the screen size.
Full Screen: Upscale and display at full screen by changing proportions and stretching the image.

* This option can be used only when the PLAYSTATION 3 is set to output video at 1080p or 1080i via an HDMI or component AV cables.

Abit AN8 SLI nForce4 mobo
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Dual-Core CPU
Zalman Silent CPU Cooling
2GB OCZ RAM, DDR400?

It all worked when I pulled it several months ago when I upgraded. All I'm asking is you cover the cost of shipping and it's yours. Now, at that price there's no guarantees, but it worked just fine when I yanked it and I don't see why that won't continue to be the case.

I was really blown away by the quality of both the sound and the crispness of the video. Very happy.

I was also moderately impressed with the sound upgrade on regular DVDs playing in the PS3, but didn't really notice significant visual differences.

So my PS3 question: can its DVD remote turn off the unit itself or do you still have to get your lazy sloth butt off the couch to switch it off manually? And is it compatible with any universal remotes?

If you use the PS3 remote then it CAN turn the console off.  For other universal remotes it's a bit more sticky (though the general answer is no) but see here for more discussion:

http://www.gamingtrend.com/forums/index.php?topic=30864.0

Or you can use the PS3 controller to turn it off. I've got a Harmony that controls everything except the PS3 and I just use the controller for the on/off part. Even with the TV off, it's just hold the PS button down for a couple of seconds and then X,X and it shuts down.

Yup, confirmed that the BIOS is defaulted to Legacy mode rather than AHCI, hence it showing that master/slave relationship on the POST screen. After googling around, about the only thing I can see as an alleged advantage to AHCI is support for NCQ, and I find differing opinions on if there really is any advantage to it or not. One of the two drives supports NCQ and the other doesn't as best as I can tell and I have a Gigabyte motherboard as well, so perhaps I should just leave well enough alone and stick with that Legacy IDE / fake master slave setting.  icon_wink

3036  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / SATA questions on: December 22, 2008, 05:59:41 PM
Building a computer for my little brother and this is the first time building one that has all SATA drives - two hard drives and two removable, so a couple of perhaps silly questions.

1. The way I plugged things in I ended up with each hard drive as "master" paired with a removable as a "slave" to it. I want the two hard drives on difference channels but wasn't sure if there way any issue slaving the other drives off of them or if they should be on a different (totally separate) channel and perhaps slaved together? Or does it all not really make that much of a difference? icon_neutral

2. I also got the two hard drives "backwards" so the smaller one for the O/S was "drive 1" while the large one was "drive 0". Vista didn't seem to care and asked me which of the two to install on and everything drive letter wise is fine. Was just wondering if not having the boot drive as drive zero would affect / confuse anything down the line?  If so, is it as simple as just swapping the two SATA connectors on the motherboard?

Thanks!

I have the UK Collectors Edition and, as posted earlier, a reinstall didn't work for me with the 2.34 patch. However, what *did* work was something posted in the thread I linked to. Rather than go from the installed 2.02 directly to 2.12, I had to use two patches - 2.02 to 2.10 and then 2.10 to 2.12 and then everything after that went fine.

However, having display driver problems that prevent me from playing, but that's a subject for another post.  icon_evil

Anyone else having a problem installing the latest (2.34) patch? It does a check to make sure none of the files it will update have been "modified" and when I first ran it against my 2.31 version with the Elite textures loaded, it failed saying files were modified. Fine, figured it was the Elite stuff, so uninstalled and tried again. Still failed. Fine, uninstalled the dang game and did a clean reinstall - 2.02, patch to 2.12 then patch to 2.31 without ever launching the game or adding the Elite textures. The 2.34 patch still fails for the same reason.  icon_evil

This is the UK Collectors edition, btw and using UK patches as well.

Anyone know if it is possible to change weapons in VATS mode so you can lob a grenade, then switch to a pistol/rifle, and fire again?

Hmm, I don't think so, if you mean what I think you do.  You can hotkey your weapon choices, to make the switch faster, but once inside VATS, I'm pretty sure it goes for as many moves as you've entered into it, with the equipped weapon when you entered VATS.  Of course, that is until the target dies, or you run out of AP. I was always finding myself deciding whether to put every shot on the first mob, then if it dies before all the AP's are used up - pick the next target, and on - or put two shots on one, then add one or two to the next nearest enemy, etc.  For what you want, you'd have to do it manually, outside of VATS, but you could switch weapons then.  There should be plenty of time to do that with the hotkeys, before moving to the next enemy - especially if you took cover right away.

Btw, there is a perk you can get at level 20, that I think is the best one in the game!  Make sure you choose your perks carefully prior to level 20, so you can choose this one, if you think it's as good as I do.
Spoiler for Hiden:
I'm not in my game now, so I don't know the title of the perk, but this is what it does:  if you kill a mob while in VATS, your AP is completely refilled.  Now, I know that all I have to do is put all my VATS shots on the nearest enemy, if I kill it, I have full AP for the next closest mob.

Just got that one when I hit level 20 over the weekend. Me likey. Alot.  nod
