Yes, a whole new set of barriers and an "island specific" billboard, both of which are tracked separately on your new license. And note they have "mega" jumps, not super jumps on the island... not sure if there really is a difference, however. Found this on the G4TV site which sums it up well:

Got. The name changed in my 'Games' list when I launched it to see if I could find any differences.

Aside from MP does anyone know of any differences between the Xbox and PS3 version of this game?

The PS3 version was more difficult to program, so they left out being able to destroy world objects, such as buildings.

Wow, that seems like a major difference.  Are you serious?  I read a review just now from IGN and it talked about destruction on multiplayer.

wow, that is a big difference...funny as well, because the first two Red Factions with its destructable stuff was on PS2

The PS3 version also has it's sarcasm detector disabled.

Sheesh, sure seems that way.  Roll Eyes
2964  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Burnout Paradise: Big Surf Island... on: June 12, 2009, 06:01:29 AM
The 'patch' *is* the Island, I assume it stays closed to traffic until you buy it which downloads a small license file (or some such) to unlock it. You can start on the island or the mainland and drive back and forth over the not-quite-finished bridge. You get a new license specific to the island as well that tracks your island stats separate from the mainland ones while you're "on vacation" over there. One new car at the start (a buggy) with 8 others to unlock and some new event types from what I could tell from the little I played.

That "100 miles" quote sounds like the GameStop website store check - I've had it tell me there wasn't one of something for 100 miles and yet when I called they had them. Call around.

Neither.  Just Wii, PS2, and PSP.

Technically it's available for the PS3 if you have one with the BC still in it.  icon_wink

Why yes. Yes I do. Now to track down a copy on the cheap.

Keep in mind, though, if you have any desire for that "Fate of Atlantis" unlockable goodness, it's only in the Wii version for some reason.

Does the PSP-3000 not have any internal memory?  Do you have to buy a memory stick to save anything?  About how much do they cost?

AFAIK, none of the PSP models come with internal memory, my PSP-2000 certainly didn't. A 1GB memory stick came with the bundle that I bought but I recently picked up a 4GB Sony stick from Amazon for just under $22 as I needed more storage.

Hopefully this will work fine for me 'cuz the PS3 version is waiting for me when I get home. Wife called me from Best Buy about this new game 'Prototype' in a bigger than normal box with a t-shirt, they only had two so did I want one? Allegedly the same price so must be some kind of limited BB packaging... who knows - it's waiting for me after my hour commute home!

Does the current PSP allow you to download games?  If so, what does the Go offer that the current model does not already have now?

Yep- you can access PSN directly from the PSP.

The Go offers nothing in functionality that isn't already in current PSPs.  The chief advantage is the new form factor.

Bluetooth, I believe and 16GB of internal storage necessitated by the removal of the UMD drive.

I'm not seeing any text issues with FF7 with Remote Play to the PS3. It seems to be fine either way but of course the jaggies are much less noticable on the PSP. In the same boat as Gratch, though, over the years I've played the first X hours serveral times but never put in the time to get deep into the game. Really should, though. Someday.

From what I recall, one of the linked threads mentioned the fact that the square and X buttons are backwards here, which is mucho confuseo and not something I really wanted to get used to. Found that in the config menu there's a way to remap all of the functions / buttons so you can easily swap the two back 'to normal' if you like. Me likey. thumbsup

Massively.com has a brief piece on it, and some video footage from E3 (at end of their impressions piece):
http://www.massively.com/2009/06/05/e3-2009-torchlight-will-morph-from-single-player-game-to-mmo/

Don't panic about the "to MMO" part -- they mean they'd like to ramp it up into a free MMO well after the initial release, and be able to do regular updates to the content (rather than a Diablo style, "content updates only in the form of paid expansions" system).
Quote
Torchlight will have pets that can fight with you, they never die and have their own inventory. We thank Runic Games for this design choice, because it means as players we won't have to constantly check in on our little monster's health -- instead, we'll be able to focus on beating the living mana out of our enemies.

The class we were able to get our hands on was the Destroyer. This class summons a shadow worm that attaches to your back and attacks anything nearby. We thought it was pretty wicked, actually. The game will be very modder friendly, which is a big bonus for the game's community. Things such as skills, quests, level cap, art and levels will all be moddable -- and the system is much like Unreal's drag and drop modular functionality.

Twelve to eighteen months after the single player release, Perfect World will launch the free to play MMO version. Planned features for the online game include more character customization, more character classes, mounts, PvP (both personal and territorial) and randomly generated dungeons. They will also add social features like marriage, buddy lists, chat features and world events.
The MMO part seems like an awfully optimistic dream -- lots of companies have crashed and burn in "12 to 18 months."

I needed to jog my memory about Felicia Day (who's in the E3 video). She's maybe best known for Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible's Sing Along (http://doctorhorrible.net/) alongside Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion. That she'd be having fun trying Torchlight just makes her more attractive.  drool icon_lol

I'm smack in the middle of other things so didn't want to take the time / brain power to do any serious learning of this, that will have to wait - but I was blown away by the shear volume of tutorial and 'tips' entries for this. The wisp is advancing, the wisp is advancing, the wisp is advancing... errr, what? Looks like this will be interesting when I get some time to get serious about it.

For things I like, there are also things I don't care about. I don't care that there's no visual damage modeling, or player controllable tricks on the cycles and quads, or cockpit views, or aftermarket performance mods for the vehicles, or tuning options. If the lack of these things bother you, you may want to rent the game first. For me, the lack of those items doesn't detract at all from the experience.

I'm right there with you except for the visual damage... I *love* that in other games when it's done well and would really appreciate it here but the lack of it isn't a deal-breaker for me as long as there's some kind of damage modeling. For the quad/atv trick riding I've already got Pure and it is very well done there. Everything else falls into the "wouldn't really use" camp for me.

I'm working on my review now - final boxed copy.  I'm absolutely LOVING it.  If you liked Hulk, you are gonna LOVE this.

I think the embargo lifts on the 9th, but I'm working to get out there early.  It's going to score very well. smile

Soooo glad I read this post.  The reference to Hulk just saved me $65.

You're right, I typically only go to the front page for specific reviews or when chastised in the forums, my bookmark takes me directory to the 'top' of the forums. And interesting comment about the 'Console' forum, I've found that to basically be true - I come here primarily for console discussions and OO for the pc, they have the exact opposite ratio of posts pc v. console.

Did you win the challenge?  I'm curious how this comment from the review sits with you:

Quote from: IGN
There's no rubber-banding per se, but the way that the game makes things "challenging" is by having the guys at the front of the pack take off at a million miles an hour and then stay ahead for the bulk of the race. Near the end, it'll just slow down a great deal to let you pass on by and win the race. Once you realize that this happens every time, it's not a matter of taking risks to catch up but simply playing it safe and waiting for the computer to let off the accelerator and let you take your place on the podium.

Especially after you have more races under your belt.
