So what is Lode Runner? I never played it, and I've never even heard of it.
It's a platformer. Best to give the trial a shot to see if you like it, also there's a short preview here and I'm sure you could easily turn up others.
I wouldn't call it a platformer. Especially since the term comes from jumping from platform to platform, and LR doesn't let you jump!
That said, I don't know what you would call it. Action puzzle game, maybe?
I was just going by what I saw when I found the GameSpot preview - "The classic run-and-dig platformer comes to Xbox Live". The XBox website has it in the "Action & Adventure, Classics" genre. In the end it doesn't really matter, but to me any 2D side-scrolling game where you go up/down/left/right while ultimately travelling ever onwards to the right is a platformer, jumping or no.
Found the issue... ran WD diagnostics on the drive and it is a SMART failure, or at least a warning that a failure is on the way. Specifically, the 'Re-allocated sector count' is approaching the max threshold, 136 out of 140 bad sectors have been reallocated. Time to take advantage of my five year warranty, it seems.
Yup, just completed most of that - a boot time disk check showed no errors, both a malware and AV scan turned up nothing. I guess the next thing would be to open her up and double-check cabling, etc.
Just thought I would mention this as I don't believe in coincidences. Wednesday, the day before this all started, I was attempting to install a demo to this partition when the whole computer locked up hard. Needed a power-off type reset to get it back up. Of course, rebooting brought the drive back so had no idea what was going on. I'm guessing this was the first victim of the problem rather than the cause.
Shit... while I was typing this, Vista popped up a dialogue telling me "Windows detected a hard disk problem" and wanting to start a backup since I "could lose everything". Damn. And I realized from the message the partition is on my secondary drive, not primary... idiot. I have a second drive with three partitions on it and D: is one of the logical partitions there. Damn... could a hardware failure with the drive itself affect only one logical partition and not take out everything?
This is the message I've been greeted with for two mornings in a row now. It's from PerfectDisk, which is scheduled to run at 3AM and it's right, one is "gone". It assumes network or removable drive or a "COM registration issue" but I don't know. What's gone is my D: drive, a secondary logical partition on my main Raptor drive. Primary is C: and it is still there or there'd be a whole different world of hurt.
Going into Disk Management doesn't show it at all, either. A reboot, however, will bring it back and then there's no issues with it that I can tell after that, that is until I see this message again the next morning. Anyone seen this or have any idea what might be causing it?

so why is the PS3 getting the shaft on the DLC? Is it Sony? I received this for the PS3, but I asked for it on the xbox for christmas, but, I can't complain, it was a gift. I'm nearing the end of the game, and it would be great to extend it, but if it's something that going to be a while longer, I'm more likely to sell it, like I do with most of my games.
No, the DLC is a Microsoft exclusive from what I understand. No clue if that means for a specific period of time or forever, though.

...I'm not sure why I am so excited to punish myself with this one.
There's something incredibly compelling about the way Semiconscious talks about this, like he can't quite contain his glee.
hehheh... yeah, my inner child definitely gives demon's souls 2 big thumbs up . i think everyone's played at least a handful of games that immediately feel so familiar that they almost seem like manifestations of long-held, subconscious personal fantasies (or something), where everything's just right, all your buttons get pushed, & you just slip into them effortlessly. majora's mask & shadow of the colossus were 2 games like that for me, & ds is another. not necessarily the best games i've ever played (as in, the most elaborate/stunning/mind-boggling), but the ones that were, well, the most comfortable (&, personally, the most rewarding)...
Man, there better be a strong something in the Kool-Aid this comes with... you've got four pages of posts so far, extolling its virtues and the Semiconscious Army continues to grow. When NCSX finally fills the backorder you've single-handedly created, you're either going to have mass genuflection in your general direction... or an uprising on your hands.
They just changed the fraking price to 1200 points while I was trying to purchase the damn thing.
I had 1140 points in my account and it kept throwing an "80153016" error trying to unlock, telling me to "try again later". Couldn't find any mention of that error online, came back to the 360 and went back to XBLA and voila! 1200 points.

yes, really am looking forward to this....it wont just be this DLC pack,it will be them all as i have been holding back from getting and DLC until this one was out
Spoiler for Hiden:
so who reckons the change is that you only have the option to kick that Lyons girl into the chamber to do your dirty work!!
Spoiler for Hiden:
From what I think I read, you'll have multiple choices as to whom goes rather than you. And I believe something was also said about them possibly surviving which makes me think of Fawkes, whom I really wanted to 'volunteer' for the duty the first time around.

No, it doesn't. You still have the same ending with what is technically a very minor change, albeit one that has a significant effect on you and the game itself.
Yes, that is correct.
Technically as in from a coding standpoint? Or...from a story perspective.
For the record, I meant from the story standpoint. But that change has a huge impact on the game world and the amount of coding required to realize that. We'd have to get all spoilery to get into more detail on the subject, however.

I dont recall seeing 1 vertibird my first play through.
the only one I've seen so far is when
Spoiler for Hiden:
you're helping to get things back up and running at the Jefferson Memorial after rescuing your dad from the VR pod in that one vault. it lands after you turn the valve in that broken pipe.
You never had one land and disgorge soldiers? My understanding is they are another form of random encounter, but it happened to me quite a number of times exploring the DC Metro area, from what I recall. Was never thrilled to hear them come thumping in. And sometimes they fly over buildings with open, destroyed roofs like the National Guard Armory for instance.

Still haven't sat down to play this. I'm thinking it'll be my post-gold prize to myself, which means I'll be starting out with all the DLC in place. The question I've always had is how much will Broken Steel alter the original ending? I want to see what the original one was. I'm hoping that Broken Steel simply picks up after the original ending. Otherwise, I'll likely be playing through without BS (heh), and then loading it to get the new ending.
It's supposed to change it completely. I think the solution is to play through it without the DLC.
No, it doesn't. You still have the same ending with what is technically a very minor change, albeit one that has a significant effect on you and the game itself. My personal opinion - don't worry about the original ending, play with the DLC and enjoy the fact that they listened to player feedback and made the game better for it. Once you've done that, easy enough to find out what the original ending was.
Well... my response was in regards to picking the earlier titles. And isn't the real reason for the resurrection the fact that someone else other than XSeed will be publishing it in NA not the fact that it won't be published at all? Or am I misreading this?
I'm wondering if anyone has popped for one of these yet or has an opinion on them. Little pricey since they're new tech but pretty sweet looking. Stumbled across this one in a BB store the other day which peaked my interest. Seemingly great picture (ran it in 'demo' mode, so expected that it would be on its best behaviour), 40% less power usage and just a teensy bit over an inch thick. So, curious what people thought.
Thanks. Back when I was thinking about starting this, the patch releases were coming fast and furious, out on usenet we were always wondering how quickly the next one would show up. So I stepped away from it for awhile and waited for the dust to settle. Looks like it may have... or maybe not, Werner posted here yesterday that 6.1 will be out next week. [sigh]
So... the 'official home' for this stuff, The Patches Scrolls, is dead?
ps. FWIW, I'm not interested in the so called 'true' patch, the people putting that out seemed like a bunch of ass-hats when I checked it out some time ago.
I need to try and catch the whole episode, only saw the beginning... and the end. Cracked me up when the lab chick played out the end of "The Gamesters of Triskelion" in her head, collars and all. Shahna.
Don't forget you're not so much "living" these adventures with her as "reliving" them as she is dying in a dream-like / coma state. And in dreams our wardrobe choices can be a little... inappropriate. Who knows, like some dreams people have, there may be whole sections where she's in nothing but her undies or <gasp> buck nekkid!
I bought it thru Steam and have just barely started on it. A little corny but nice so far and the puzzles have all been of the "logical" variety, not the "wtf?" kind you see where the solution is just trial-and-error or comes completely out of left field. There's a decent GameSpot review here:

Does it even come with a game, lol? That will be the next thing in marketing, I'm sure - all this cool stuff and no game. If (when) that happens, someone is probably going to kill someone over it.
Didn't Atlus already do that with Persona 4?
I'm afraid I don't know what you mean, lol, since I got on the Persona 4 bandwagon late, so it was a basic Amazon order. GT'ers suggested I go with P3 before P4, so I played P3 first. I liked it a ton, and didn't want to spoil the P4 experience by playing them back to back. I started another replay of Morrowind, then bought 3 DS games, then... well all of you with backlogs know what I mean, I'm sure.
I was referring to the Social Link Expansion Pack for P4 which to me fell squarely into the "all this cool stuff and no game" camp.
Yikes! I had no idea that even existed, that is unbelievable - $168 (plus shipping, no Super Saver Shipping option) - and no game, wow. I haven't played it yet, but I ordered it several months ago, maybe the super deluxe spiffy Expansion Pack wasn't available then. I know I wouldn't have ordered it by mistake because of that price though. That is just Crazy!
On the Ghostbusters topic, I think I'd prefer the more realistic one, but I'm not a big fan of G-Busters, so probably will pass on both anyway.
It wasn't $168 when it first came out, it was $29.99. The reason the price is so high now, it that it was Amazon.com exclusive and very limited on top of that.
Exactly, it's a very limited release on the secondary market now... but I have mine! Bwahaha!
