I was going to, but I don't believe you can install the unofficial patch with the steam game.

You can.

No, it doesn't. You still have the same ending with what is technically a very minor change, albeit one that has a significant effect on you and the game itself.

Yes, that is correct.

Technically as in from a coding standpoint?  Or...from a story perspective.

For the record, I meant from the story standpoint. But that change has a huge impact on the game world and the amount of coding required to realize that. We'd have to get all spoilery to get into more detail on the subject, however.

My understanding is they are another form of random encounter, but it happened to me quite a number of times exploring the DC Metro area, from what I recall. Was never thrilled to hear them come thumping in. And sometimes they fly over buildings with open, destroyed roofs like the National Guard Armory for instance.

Still haven't sat down to play this.  I'm thinking it'll be my post-gold prize to myself, which means I'll be starting out with all the DLC in place.  The question I've always had is how much will Broken Steel alter the original ending? I want to see what the original one was.  I'm hoping that Broken Steel simply picks up after the original ending.  Otherwise, I'll likely be playing through without BS (heh), and then loading it to get the new ending.

It's supposed to change it completely. I think the solution is to play through it without the DLC.

No, it doesn't. You still have the same ending with what is technically a very minor change, albeit one that has a significant effect on you and the game itself. My personal opinion - don't worry about the original ending, play with the DLC and enjoy the fact that they listened to player feedback and made the game better for it. Once you've done that, easy enough to find out what the original ending was.  icon_wink

I'm wondering if anyone has popped for one of these yet or has an opinion on them. Little pricey since they're new tech but pretty sweet looking. Stumbled across this one in a BB store the other day which peaked my interest. Seemingly great picture (ran it in 'demo' mode, so expected that it would be on its best behaviour), 40% less power usage and just a teensy bit over an inch thick. So, curious what people thought.

here's a link to the patch I'm using.

Thanks. Back when I was thinking about starting this, the patch releases were coming fast and furious, out on usenet we were always wondering how quickly the next one would show up. So I stepped away from it for awhile and waited for the dust to settle. Looks like it may have... or maybe not, Werner posted here yesterday that 6.1 will be out next week.  [sigh]

I bought it thru Steam and have just barely started on it. A little corny but nice so far and the puzzles have all been of the "logical" variety, not the "wtf?" kind you see where the solution is just trial-and-error or comes completely out of left field. There's a decent GameSpot review here:

Didn't Atlus already do that with Persona 4?  icon_wink

I'm afraid I don't know what you mean, lol, since I got on the Persona 4 bandwagon late, so it was a basic Amazon order.  GT'ers suggested I go with P3 before P4, so I played P3 first.  I liked it a ton, and didn't want to spoil the P4 experience by playing them back to back.  I started another replay of Morrowind, then bought 3 DS games, then... well all of you with backlogs know what I mean, I'm sure.   retard

I was referring to the Social Link Expansion Pack for P4 which to me fell squarely into the "all this cool stuff and no game" camp.  icon_lol

Yikes! I had no idea that even existed, that is unbelievable - $168 (plus shipping, no Super Saver Shipping option) - and no game, wow.  I haven't played it yet, but I ordered it several months ago, maybe the super deluxe spiffy Expansion Pack wasn't available then.  I know I wouldn't have ordered it by mistake because of that price though.  That is just Crazy!  icon_eek

On the Ghostbusters topic, I think I'd prefer the more realistic one, but I'm not a big fan of G-Busters, so probably will pass on both anyway.

It wasn't $168 when it first came out, it was $29.99.  The reason the price is so high now, it that it was Amazon.com exclusive and very limited on top of that.

Exactly, it's a very limited release on the secondary market now... but I have mine! Bwahaha!  icon_lol

I think if you're only moving the data from one HD to another, you just need the transfer cable, and that moves all your licenses.  I just did this when I upgraded to the 120GB drive (my department has a transfer cable I borrowed).  You should only need to use the once a year thing if you actually change consoles.

Licenses are tied to the console, not the hard drive, so if all you do is upgrade the drive there's nothing to transfer, license-wise.

Due to the overwhelming responses so far, I'm leaning towards UPS first and Power Conditioner second. Everything device-wise is already plugged into it (the PC) and that means it will always be in play, even if all that it is 'conditioning' is the output of the UPS. Hmmm... ponder, ponder...

I currently have a Panamax power conditioner on my home theatre and I'm pondering adding an actual UPS into the mix as well. Sure, they'll be some overlap between the two but looking for battery backup of the setup so I can get a graceful shutdown out of everything in the event of a long outage and protection from the short ones.

The question is perhaps a silly one, but I'm wondering if the connection should be UPS -> Conditioner -> Devices or should it be Conditioner -> UPS -> Devices? Or does it not really matter all that much?  icon_neutral

I realized that I have had Heavenly Sword hanging around since the $20 Thanksgiving deal, so I took the opportunity to quickly knock that out of my backlog.

How did you like it?

I gave it a 7 out of 10. It's very hard to not look at it as a God of War clone, and viewed that way, it comes up lacking. Extremely short, only 1 weapon (outside of the occasional use of projectiles), no magic, no weapon upgrades, and simplistic puzzles. You get the secondary character, but she controls a bit wonky at times. The cutscenes were impressive and acting was well done (although kind of over the top at times). The combo system was interesting, but it was very easy to rely on 1 or 2 combos to get the job done.  Now that I am describing it, maybe a 7 is too generous. I appreciated the production values, but it's hard not to look at the finished product and feel like half the game was missing - almost like an extended demo where you get to try out a couple of the weapons and fight a couple of bosses.

Wasn't it meant to be a trilogy? Yet another one of those games where initial reception killed any hope of realizing the entire vision, from what I recall.  icon_confused
