Having purchased 8000 points for $53, it's $8 to me. Points aren't all bad. slywink

You got a nice deal there, $80 in points for $53. As noted 800 = $10 so 1200 would be $15. Except for Coop I guess.  icon_wink

True. I had to check a couple of times to make sure SH5 was still all about German U-Boats and we hadn't switched sides or something.

So, a comment on the trailer itself rather than what you think the game might be like?

What the fuck?  Is discussion of the trailer off-limits for some reason?

Obviously not, that's what's going on here. And a big "what the fuck?" back on the what the fuck.  A honest question with no ulterior motive... sorry if it upset you for some reason.

Spoiler for Hiden:
On the whole subject of 'three years', wasn't that was the answer that Christopher gave to say how long it would take to 'fix' Vikus? He makes him slow down and repeat it... three years to undo the transformation and the effects of 'the fluid'. At least that's what I recall. I don't think we have any idea how much time it might take him to get home, mount a rescue mission and come back.  icon_neutral

I also agree that we have no idea how much time had passed from when the ship left until we see the completed transformation and the tin flower making, post-relocation, wife musing ending.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I might be mistaken, but I thought I Christopher Johnson tells him he promises he will come back for him in three years.  This is when Wilkes is getting shot badly in the suit and he tells the alien to go on to his son and his ship....didn't anyone else see that?

Spoiler for Hiden:
Right, it gets repeated then as an affirmation but that is the original answer to the question of how long it will take to fix him when Christopher tells him that he has something up on the ship that could do that. Remember how Vikus makes him 'slow down the clicks' and repeat it because he can't believe he heard it would take three years? He was a little... upset... at the news, to say the least.  icon_neutral

Perhaps he never meant to take him along and it was always how long it would take to go home and bring 'the cure' back? Or how long it would take to get him home where they could do something about it? [shrug]

Practically every game I've played has that issue on the 360, not just Ghostbusters. GB just asks a really goofy question every time you start the console up (along the lines of how you'll be overwriting your save games or something).

Right, Ghostbusters adds in that extra oddly frightening comment about overwriting that makes this more bothersome than normal. But in all honesty I don't recall the last 360 game I played that asked me over and over every time it started where my saves were. Typically it's one and done but I can change it later if desired. At least, that's what I'm remembering right now at work. Been playing a crapton of FO3 and it doesn't ask. icon_neutral

Well it needs a memory device to remember, so how is it going to remember which device you picked before without a memory device yet?

It should ping the HD that just about every single 360 owner owns, and then any attached memory cards. If it finds a save game there, it'll keep saving there from there on out without user intervention (but give us an option to change it). Ask the first time, yes - don't keep asking every time I start the damn game.

Interesting... I have two LCD screens hooked to my laptop here at work, one analog and one digital to the docking station and I have the following options available to me:

Use one display (Single)
The same on both displays (Clone)
Configured independently from each other (Dualview)

I'm using the last one without issue but they both are the same size. What driver version are you running?

If you go into the NVIDIA Control Panel to the 'Set up multiple displays' option in the 'Display' section, what are your settings there? Does it properly identify both monitors? There's also a wizard to help you with the initial setup but I didn't find it all that useful when I ran through it for the first time.

Does anyone know if the PhysX being used is the original or just the Nvidia version. (They are different I think, even though Nvidia bought them). The reason I ask, is that I have a PhysX card in my older gaming rig and if it makes a difference I'd take the time to move it....

It will use the physx card if you have it. In fact, the 'high' setting for physx in the game recommends it for use with a dedicated physx card. That being said, I was able to run physx on high without a dedicated card with no issues.

Well... I had some 'issues' but then I am running the game at 1920x1200 with everything bumped up. Vista32, 4GB ram, GTX260, E8400. Was fine with PhysX set to Normal but on High there were spots where my framerate went to hell in a handbasket - the platform where you first do that dive kick, for example. That attack ran in slow-motion and walking around there afterwards was like walking in mud. Very thick mud. It was fine once I walked off, though. Here's a video showing what the physX does for you with on and off comparisons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vINH6Z9kqgI

In a nutshell it adds physics to the paper on the floor, allows the batarangs to do visible damage to floors, allows the batarangs to tear through cloth, adds steam effects and bouncing spark effects.

Interesting that none of that seems to be in the console versions, at least not in the PS3 demo. I assume that's also true on the 360?

I'm still stumped on exiting the demo though (in Vista 64-bit); if I click the menu option to "exit to desktop," it only gets me to the opening menu screen and so far I've had to keep going to the old Taskbar to shut it down manually, as it were.

The 'Exit to Desktop' option doesn't take you straight there, it actually starts a 'trailer' for the game playing. You can then hit 'escape' to skip that and get back to the desktop. Not sure if that will help you out or not...

The cape is simply wonderful to watch...

I seem to remember reading that they have man-years in the cape physics but can't seem to find it again. Did find this however, a snippet:

Quote
"I have to say — this is the best cape in a videogame."

Nathan Whitman, an associate producer at Warner Bros.’ videogame division, is proud of the way Batman’s cape is coming along in the game Batman: Arkham Asylum. It’s a third-person game, so you spend the entirety of it staring at the cape, and Warner’s is taking particular care to get it right.

"We’ve got a guy working full-time on cape physics," Whitman says. That means that Batman’s signature mantle won’t act like most videogame capes, floating through walls and enemies as if it were a holographic projection. It’ll animate and collide realistically with everything.

I think I saw somewhere that you actually get 'cape takedowns' at one point as it is weighted and can give a pretty good whack when Batman pirouettes.  icon_wink

That was an awesome finale. I don't remember them doing the judges favorites last year, but that was as enjoyable a 2 hour finale that I've ever seen and it didn't feel dragged out to me at all.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I'm very happy Jeanine won, but just hope Brandon- who seems to have really bad self-esteem issues- doesn't look at this as a defeat or that he's not good enough. The man is SO talented- and I'd even say he's the best dancer this year.  Jeanine was just a hair behind him, but her personality and friendliness added to her amazing skills won it out for her.

I still don't get the appeal of Evan...at all. Nice guy, definitely could do all the steps, but he just never seemed as disciplined or crisp as the others.  I'm not going to argue 3rd place v 4th place, but there's absolutely no question that Kayla was the better dancer- it's just that she has no personality and it cost her.

When she was 4th I was like oh. no. Evan had better not win this.  I was relieved to see him placed 3rd.

I really don't think we need to spoiler anything at this point, but...

Spoiler for Hiden:
I completely agree with you on Evan. When they annouced Kayla as fourth I was bummed and then worried that, oh gawd no, please don't let Evan win. Sadly, was clapping at home when he pulled 3rd place. If Kayla had let the personality out earlier that is obviously there (and was coming out as Nigel noted) but was bottled up for most of the season she would have done better. Not first place but not fourth either. IMHO.

For some reason, I'm rooting more for the girls than the guys. While I'd like to see Kayla win, being a Colorado girl and all, I think Jeanine has edged her out and should get the crown. Both of the boys play off their studly/cute qualities too much for my tastes, with Brandon on the studly side and Evan too cutesy... problem is he (Evan) seems to have an enormous cadre of screaming fans voting for him constantly or I honestly think he would have been gone by now, and I worry they'll push him to the top by shear weight of numbers.

They do say they will be crowning "America's Favorite Dancer" not "America's Best Dancer", after all.  disgust
