Even worse today than before, and I give up on my Avatar, it never survives for long. Getting this when marking a forum read:

Quote
HTTP/1.1 302 Found Date: Wed, 13 May 2009 13:04:31 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.41 (Unix) PHP/5.2.5 mod_log_bytes/1.2 mod_bwlimited/1.4 mod_auth_passthrough/1.8 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 mod_ssl/2.8.31 OpenSSL/0.9.8b X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.5 Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT Cache-Control: private Pragma: no-cache Location: http://www.gamingtrend.com/forums/index.php?board=20.0 Content-Encoding: none Vary: Accept-Encoding Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=98 Connection: Keep-Alive Transfer-Encoding: chunked Content-Type: text/html 0

And something like this at the top of the page almost constantly, along with the big font it brings:

Quote

does prime work with their resellers? Like I was going to order dark spire, but it's through target and target charges 7 bucks to ship. So screw that noise. Of course no damn store around here has that game in stock. :|

Depends on the reseller.  Those that qualify will be marked with "Prime" by the price.  Target doesn't qualify, unfortunately.

As noted, depends. Mostly, the answer is 'no' however, it typically needs to come directly from Amazon to qualify. The only odd thing I've found, trying to show this to other people, is that if you're logged in with a "non-prime" account you have no idea what qualifies or doesn't as it won't tell you. It only shows up for the Prime members.

That being said, I resisted it for some time, not really being a big Amazonian up to that point. But took the bait when I bought a big receiver that would have cost many buckaziods to ship and the notion of getting it in two days for free was too much to pass up. Of course, the whole 'free' thing only kicks in after you buy enough to cover the enrollment costs, but I haven't found that to be a problem. With Prime, I find myself getting a plethora of things I might have picked up at a store from Amazon instead - no tax, no shipping, two days - even small things like books and cofee/tea. If I "need" something overnight, it's only something like $3.99 for that, regardless of the item. Plus being an Atlus whore, I end up pre-ordering many of their games from Amazon for the swag that it comes with there. And I don't know for sure if this is true, but it seems like Prime members get... "priority"... in the shipping process.

Bottom line it's been well worth it for me.  thumbsup

it'll be interesting to see how they leave things with House apparently losing his mind.

I though getting off the Vicodin resolved that. Great season, as usual.

he tried a couple of things that haven't worked, so I'm not counting his hallucinations out just yet.  besides, House has tried to go without Vicodin before and it never works out well.

So, what did you think? Didn't really expect the twist near the end but I probably should have. The 'end end' wasn't too much of a shock after that.

I'm still seeing stuff like this at the top of the page and my font sizes change as well:

Quote
HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Mon, 11 May 2009 05:00:55 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.41 (Unix) PHP/5.2.5 mod_log_bytes/1.2 mod_bwlimited/1.4 mod_auth_passthrough/1.8 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 mod_ssl/2.8.31 OpenSSL/0.9.8b X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.5 Expires: Mon, 26 Jul 1997 05:00:00 GMT Cache-Control: private Pragma: no-cache Last-Modified: Mon, 11 May 2009 05:00:55 GMT Content-Encoding: none Vary: Accept-Encoding Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=96 Connection: Keep-Alive Transfer-Encoding: chunked Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 ac85

And sometimes the 'Mark forum read' action just nets me a lonely "0" in the top left-hand corner of a blank screen. A refresh seems to straighten things out... for a little while.

Cool... always liked his less well-known characters (Solomon Kane, Bran Mak Morn) as much as the ones people know about like Conan and Red Sonja and Kull. Any idea when this movie will hit the states?

Also stumbled across something called The Planet Stories Library - "Classic Fantasy for a New Era". Enjoyed Almuric, something by REH in a Burroughs / Alan Burt Ackers style I hadn't heard of before. They have other writers from that era as well, for example Henry Kuttner (who contributed to the Cthulhu mythos, amongst other things) and married C.L. Moore who penned the "first significant female sword-and-sorcery protagonist" Jirel of Joiry. Lots of good stuff there.

After reading stories like the above example I started doing the same thing about 2 years ago. Whenever I'm at a grocery store or anywhere else with an electronic signing pad I do little pictures or sign my name as "Me" and "Not You".

Funny, I remember reading about that as well, the experiments one person did to see what they could get away with as a "signature". Bottom line was it didn't make one iota of difference what they put there - words, pictures, a game of hangman - it went through.  saywhat

this minus the middle initial.

Scribblish as well, no MI. It used to be legible a long time ago but hasn't been for ages.  It's usually a recognizable, consistant scribble but sometime those electronic fake pen signing systems can make it look completely retarded. Do people ever make comments? I get them on a somewhat regular basis: "Nice... signature" - with a pause and a grin between the words. Hey, it doesn't say "print your name", that I can manage quite nicely, thank you very much.

I have it for my 360 and haven't noticed any issues. Achievements are there, Liberty Prime was doing his thing right where I left him and I went back through the end one more time. One change in the end game...

Spoiler for Hiden:
I was finally able to elect Fawkes as the natural choice to go into Radiation-ville and enter the code, seeing as he is immune to the stuff. And since we're such good buddies he was happy to go. Funny, but he becomes the "true hero of the wasteland" for doing this. I may still go back and see what happens if it isn't Fawkes that does the dirty deed.

And a question regarding the FEV virus, guess I should spoiler it:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Was the option to actually use the virus taken away? I don't recall exactly how it all worked before but it seems like now the assumption is you don't use it otherwise it seems that all that mutant killing water everywhere would screw too much with the plot going forward.

A word of warning -- it contains ending spoilers if you haven't seen the ending yet.  Actually it starts right out with a shot from the pivotal ending scene, so don't even click if you want to avoid that stuff smile

I wish you could have posted that warning on XBLM.  Fortunately, it was vague enough that I couldn't really put together much of anything.

What's the final word, BTW?  Should we finish the original first or go ahead with Broken Steel (I'm not really anywhere near finishing, I don't think).

Don'y even worry about the original ending, go ahead and wrap up the main quest while nestled in the gentle arms of Broken Steel.

I do run complete backups of my C: drive daily... well, technically weekly fulls and daily differentials. This drive I wasn't *all* that worried about as it's just games, things I could simply reinstall if push came to shove. May look into some way to cherry-pick my saves from there, though, I think about it off and on and then forget about it without doing anything about it.  retard

Any recommendations for decent "online" backups?
2788  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: You appear to have lost a Drive! on: May 01, 2009, 05:57:03 AM
Managed to save almost everything and it was kind of funny how it all worked out. Frozen drive would *not* detect in the BIOS until it had warmed up awhile and it was still "hanging" during boot. Decided to just wait it out and eventually it told me it wanted to do a dskchk on the drive and I couldn't stop it as it wouldn't recognize my USB keyboard from that screen. Then it "hung hung" at 0% of step 1. Had to power down and restart the process with a PS2 keyboard plugged in, but then was able to skip the dskchk and get booted into Windows with the drive online.

At first it wouldn't copy anything at all, turned out one of the sub-directories was corrupted and totally unaccessable, so things would only copy if I selected anything else and did not include it. Copied everything minus a handful of corrupted files from my Steam directory for Dawn of War 2, figured I'll just validate or delete/reinstall it to get it back complete. Everything else came over fine.  icon_cool

Rain check meaning what exactly... if they have it later we can get it, or we have to somehow reserve?

All I could find on their website was this:

Quote
Best Buy retail stores may offer rainchecks when advertised products are out of stock. This practice will vary by product and situation, and limited quantities or other circumstances may make a raincheck unavailable.

A "raincheck" is typically something you have to ask for during the sale, proof that you attempted to purchase the item during the sale and they were out of stock. You would then take the raincheck back later and get the item at the sale price when it is back in stock.

If at all possible, I'd recommend either copying your data elsewhere temporarily just in case, or unplugging that drive from the system, so that it stays powered down, until the replacement arrives.

Shoulda listened. Late last night got forgetful and tried to install a small demo to the drive. It hung in what I can only describe as 'constant disk activity light on' mode, while other activities mostly worked the system was pretty well hung and I had to power off. An attempt to reboot posts fine, gets to the MS back-and-forth gizmo, the drive light comes back on hard and it progresses no more. Even disabling the drive in the BIOS didn't resolve the hang. Next step, open her up and disconnect it. Farg. icon_frown

Exactly, they had a client but no longer do. And after installation, you are asked if you want to save or remove the 'temporary' files you downloaded. Save them if you want to burn them to media or just so you don't have to download them again next time.
