Same boat - haven't read 'Perdido' but really enjoyed 'War of the Flowers'. Keep hoping for some kind of sequel / follow up.

While not a sequel, Williams has announced he will start writing an Urban Fantasy series.  "War of the Flowers" had a pretty strong urban fantasy vibe so I'm looking forward to this new series.

Thanks for the heads-up Kevin, I hadn't heard that.  I'm a little leery though, as I haven't liked anything he's done outside of War of the Flowers.

Yes, thanks. Funny, but all I've read by Tad is 'Flowers' and I keep thinking I must check out some of the other massive books I see by him, assuming they will be just as good. Perhaps not. And I got excited when I googled for "war of the flowers" and it suggested "movie" at the end. Turned out to be a Korean movie about underground gambling.  icon_frown

I don't know if "urban fantasy" is all the rage or I'm just noticing it more, but there sure is a crapload of it out there and it seems to be what I'm primarily reading lately. I read Felicia Day's blog and GoodReads page 'cuz (amongst other things) she seems to have similar tastes in books. Lately for some reason I seem to be staying mostly in the sub-genre of urban fantasy she calls "vaginal urban fantasy".  icon_biggrin Not "chick lit" or hot romance but urban fantasy with a strong female lead, usually with magic or vampires (etc) involved. Some really good stuff out there, in spite of the fact that I'm getting tired of vampires. I don't have time now but hopefully can post some examples later. Or check out her bookshelves at GR.

I haven't read Perdido, but War of the Flowers is absolutely incredible.  One of my all-time favorite fantasy novels.  Takes a bit to get going, but once it does you're in for an awesome ride.

A fair warning to those with five guys coming in, watch out because their stuff is good, really freaking good... well, as long as you have a good franchisee. We had one by my work that was run into the ground, but over the past year the new owner has rebuilt it into a functioning franchise. I think their fries and burgers are top notch. Everything so fresh. When the first burger I got there had fresh cut Jalapenos on it I was in heaven...

Hmmm... we just recently got our first one in the Denver area and I wasn't impressed. Apparently there's 5 or 6 others in Colorado further out but I'd never heard of it until this one went into the corpse of a jewelry store close by my house. Granted, I've only been there once and they had just opened, so perhaps I should give them another shot.

It irked me that there was nothing explaining that their "burger" has two patties whereas their "little burger" was not in fact littler or a kiddy burger but only meant it has one patty, which is all I wanted. I also didn't find it all that tasty. The fries were good but they give you a crapload of them and dump them in the same brown paper bag the burgers are in, which explained the greasy bags I saw people walking out with. Perhaps I'll try again, it is pretty darn convenient, location wise. Gawd Forbid I drive too far. icon_wink

I've enjoyed everything I've had at Smash Burger, for whatever that is worth.

Red Lobster without a doubt has the best food commercials on TV.  The food always looks so good.  I don't even like seafood and watching their commercials makes me want to jump in the car and find the nearest location.

That way lies disappointment, my son.  What you see is definitely not what you get.

Out of curiousity, which PS3 do you have - hardware or software emulation?

For me almost everyone's avatars appear as red X's.  And when I try to reload mine I get an error message:

Yea, I've got the avatar thing locked for a minute.  I want to make sure we've killed off any damage, then we can get the avatars set up again.

Then outside of that things seem to be running smoothly.

Agreed.

Anyone into this?  I've been thinking of trying it out, but I don't know where to start.  As with any hobby there is an abundance of confusing information available online.

I'd like to know what a good starter model is, one that won't burst into tiny pieces when I inevitably crash it, and where I can get it.

I found a local store where I live, but I think they might be crooks.  For example, they had this on display and told me it was $200.

Not exactly the guys I want to be helping me out.

What's the "this" they had on display? $40 software for $200?  icon_neutral

I'm in the same boat, would love to get into RC helos but really don't know where to start. And I'm afraid to go into the RC store near my house as I know I'll end up buying something, dagnabbit. Plus I hear that they are the most difficult thing to learn to fly, more so than the planes, what with no "seat of the pants" guidance information available.

she was upset over what he said about her kid in the last episode. Apparently that as where he had his break from reality, she walked away and he didn't say anything. It got a bit fuzzy after he announced to evryone they had sex, but that may have pissed her off because it would have been a lie. Another thing to take into account is some if their conversations may not have actually happened.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Right, after that pivotal moment with Cutty and the remark he makes, very little of what he thinks happened after that really happened the way he "remembers". Never hooked up or detoxed. The events are there, her involvement in them isn't. I kept thinking that Amber really mind-fucked him but he's really mind-fucking himself. As both of them noted, it was what he wanted to have happened, "too bad it wasn't true". Almost like "alien brain syndrome", to draw a parallel to the split-brain hand dude.

does prime work with their resellers? Like I was going to order dark spire, but it's through target and target charges 7 bucks to ship. So screw that noise. Of course no damn store around here has that game in stock. :|

Depends on the reseller.  Those that qualify will be marked with "Prime" by the price.  Target doesn't qualify, unfortunately.

As noted, depends. Mostly, the answer is 'no' however, it typically needs to come directly from Amazon to qualify. The only odd thing I've found, trying to show this to other people, is that if you're logged in with a "non-prime" account you have no idea what qualifies or doesn't as it won't tell you. It only shows up for the Prime members.

That being said, I resisted it for some time, not really being a big Amazonian up to that point. But took the bait when I bought a big receiver that would have cost many buckaziods to ship and the notion of getting it in two days for free was too much to pass up. Of course, the whole 'free' thing only kicks in after you buy enough to cover the enrollment costs, but I haven't found that to be a problem. With Prime, I find myself getting a plethora of things I might have picked up at a store from Amazon instead - no tax, no shipping, two days - even small things like books and cofee/tea. If I "need" something overnight, it's only something like $3.99 for that, regardless of the item. Plus being an Atlus whore, I end up pre-ordering many of their games from Amazon for the swag that it comes with there. And I don't know for sure if this is true, but it seems like Prime members get... "priority"... in the shipping process.

Bottom line it's been well worth it for me.  thumbsup

I though getting off the Vicodin resolved that. Great season, as usual.

he tried a couple of things that haven't worked, so I'm not counting his hallucinations out just yet.  besides, House has tried to go without Vicodin before and it never works out well.

So, what did you think? Didn't really expect the twist near the end but I probably should have. The 'end end' wasn't too much of a shock after that.

And sometimes the 'Mark forum read' action just nets me a lonely "0" in the top left-hand corner of a blank screen. A refresh seems to straighten things out... for a little while.

Cool... always liked his less well-known characters (Solomon Kane, Bran Mak Morn) as much as the ones people know about like Conan and Red Sonja and Kull. Any idea when this movie will hit the states?

Also stumbled across something called The Planet Stories Library - "Classic Fantasy for a New Era". Enjoyed Almuric, something by REH in a Burroughs / Alan Burt Ackers style I hadn't heard of before. They have other writers from that era as well, for example Henry Kuttner (who contributed to the Cthulhu mythos, amongst other things) and married C.L. Moore who penned the "first significant female sword-and-sorcery protagonist" Jirel of Joiry. Lots of good stuff there.

Funny, I remember reading about that as well, the experiments one person did to see what they could get away with as a "signature". Bottom line was it didn't make one iota of difference what they put there - words, pictures, a game of hangman - it went through.  saywhat

Scribblish as well, no MI. It used to be legible a long time ago but hasn't been for ages.  It's usually a recognizable, consistant scribble but sometime those electronic fake pen signing systems can make it look completely retarded. Do people ever make comments? I get them on a somewhat regular basis: "Nice... signature" - with a pause and a grin between the words. I have it for my 360 and haven't noticed any issues. Achievements are there, Liberty Prime was doing his thing right where I left him and I went back through the end one more time. One change in the end game...

Spoiler for Hiden:
I was finally able to elect Fawkes as the natural choice to go into Radiation-ville and enter the code, seeing as he is immune to the stuff. And since we're such good buddies he was happy to go. Funny, but he becomes the "true hero of the wasteland" for doing this. I may still go back and see what happens if it isn't Fawkes that does the dirty deed.

And a question regarding the FEV virus, guess I should spoiler it:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Was the option to actually use the virus taken away? I don't recall exactly how it all worked before but it seems like now the assumption is you don't use it otherwise it seems that all that mutant killing water everywhere would screw too much with the plot going forward.
