Holy crap!  A sequel! Awesome.

I'm not to Meridian yet, just past the site of the you-know-what looking for the War Chief, been off doing far too many side quests and collecting stuff. Had to laugh the first couple of times I picked up ancient relics with descriptions like "black bracelet", "wind chimes" or "toothpick" and the like.  icon_biggrin Also been very impressed with the Strider animations, from the multiple ways Aloy gets on and off to the fact she can leg-over-turn-around to fire backwards, all very naturally animated. IMHO.

Hey, Skin... err, Gratch... maybe it's my imagination but it seems that specifically tagging those weak spots helps with hitting them. Or maybe it's just my imagination that I'm actually tagging them and not the whole beastie. LOL  Anywho, that and concentration (click R3) which I assume you are doing help.

This... other than I'm on the downhill side of the cold. Thankfully.

That looked... fun. Not. Comments ranged from this one, much like yours, to "hey, what's so hard about it?".  LOL

6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Horizon Zero Dawn on: March 24, 2017, 01:08:00 PM
Thanks guys. It was the first one I stumbled across, perhaps missed one elsewhere or perhaps the levels are dynamic. It was not that far out of The Embrace following the main quest line, the keeper is up on top of a hill with a fire and merchant. But perhaps that describes them all, heck if I know.  Yet. icon_wink And yes, I didn't have the sling I needed for one of the trials but I do now. Haven't run any of the trials yet, however, got distracted by the nearby ruins and a 'strange signal' that lead me to my first Tallneck and level 10.  thumbsup icon_cool
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Horizon Zero Dawn on: March 23, 2017, 01:07:20 PM
Speaking of the Hunting Grounds, how 'level appropriate' are they? Perhaps that's a more general question about the quest levels.

I just stumbled across the first one, I'm not quite level 10 and they show as level 17... does that mean I should wait? Or just give it a shot to see how it goes? At least now I see where this "I got all Blazing Suns" talk comes from. Probably not in my future, though.  icon_frown

It's probably listed already upthread, but what are the "must-have" skills?

The one that lets you sneak attack from hiding places, and the one that lets you attract the attention of enemies by whistling. These are the two skills you should buy immediately. You can get through a lot of encounters without fighting at all by using these two skills in combination.

That stealth / critical hit skill is great. Was just wondering about the lure, thanks for the tip.  icon_cool

My only minor gripe is sometimes not being able to tell when a monster is lurking around.

Are you using your focus (click the right stick)?  It should highlight all enemies in the area.

Yup, even thru terrain and such. I also find I can hear them (me, not her) before I actually see them sometimes.

FYI, a bit spoilery for the two games that came before.

34 hours?  I wish I had that much playtime, work is a bear right now and with Wife Time I don't usually get to start Play Time until 10 o'clock or so and by then my fried brain only has about two hours left in it, max. Only at level 5 and up in Mother's Heart about to actually start "The Proving" and enjoying the crap out of this gorgeous game... all kinds of awesome.  icon_cool

Holy crap, not exactly what I was expecting. Imagine a what... Galaga, Thexder, twin-stick, Bayonetta mash-up opening sequence? Then on to what was in the demo, more in your face / side scrolling / top down madness... and then just before the Goliath, dead.  Oh and "This game does not auto-save. Play the game to learn how to save." which from Googling means making it to an "Access Point" it would seem and something I failed to do. Late enough I will try again tomorrow night. From the beginning. Sheesh.  icon_cool

For the WiiU version, curious what controllers people are using. Just used the gamepad last night which was... okay... but it seems the screen on it never gets used? It just sat there and blinked a message about playing it on the screen only. I have a pro controller that I'm recharging as it was deader than the proverbial doornail and the normal Wii controller and nunchuk as well.

I started using the pro controller because I read there was no use of the screen on the pad so I didn't see any reason to use it.  I find the pro controller much better to hold.

Thanks. Switched over to the Pro once it was recharged and doing fine with it.  thumbsup

This game on a 4k TV with HDR is one the most beautiful, graphically amazing games I've seen in a long time. The gameplay videos on YouTube do not do this game justice.

Finished up Virginia on the PS4. Still not really sure what in heck I played, nor how I got the small number of trophies that I did. Or what in the heck the ones I didn't even mean. Sure, it's a "single-player first-person thriller set in a small town with a secret" and you "experience a missing person investigation through the eyes of graduate FBI agent Anne Tarver" but dang. No dialogue. Disjointed because... flashbacks? No puzzles but rather points of interactivity that move the story... forward? Heck if I know. Such an odd duck.  paranoid

Just watched the 3rd episode last night and I'm not sure what to think, especially if the finale is all those things the Polygon article mentions. Out of curiosity, do they ever explain what "The OA" means? I have a guess but it's not really based on anything so far other than... guessing.
