Is that a thing from some other media?

Anime series. And it says this is a "visual novel".

There's been some discussion of 'Prey' over on OO and I for one am looking forward to this. Here's something I stumbled across earlier: System Shock for a new generation. A hands-on preview of the game. icon_cool

I still have the quest tracker / marker thing on in spite of the fact that it sometimes wants to me to go a more... circuitous... route than I would take since it wants to stay on the trails and cross rivers at bridges. So I'll just point myself in the general direction of the quest and head cross country until things sync up when I get closer. For whatever that is worth.

Just wanted to update this as he has now released four books in the Rimes/ERF series with more to come, the first four books of "The Chain" (paranormal horror genre) and the first book in his post-apocalypse series called "Beneath Burning Sands".  I've read all of the ERF books as well as the first two Chain novels and have enjoyed them all. Will be picking up the "Burning Sands" series shortly, he's finalizing the second one for publication and the third one will be along later this year.  All of them are there at his author's page, if you are interested in the Kindle releases but should be everywhere else as well.

And for those who would like a free copy of BBS, he's been running a "give away" to people on his email list and he let me slide a few in here. First come, first served!   icon_cool

My boys actually agreed last night after we discussed the games.

We are going to play Horizon: Zero Dawn.  How long to beat says it will take about 20 hours.  Even with out limited playtime of a few hours a week that should be doable in a month or two.

I am looking forward to actually finishing a game.

How long to beat is lying to you.

Really, for this game, you're going to at least be doing the Main+Extras level, and probably somewhere between that and Completionist.  So, 39-53 hours.  But even that seems way low if you play like I do.

I'm spending about half my time on main quest stuff and half on side quests, and I'm well over 20 hours already.  Only about halfway through as well.

Finishing in hours would be really rushing things.

And doing yourself a great disservice.

There is. "Horizon" is the true name of the franchise, while "Zero Dawn" is a very specific reference to a very important part of the game's plot. It's not random, and it does have a specific meaning.

Yeah, Gratch just kind of mentioned it.

Which got me to mention the mention!  ninja
17  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS4/XB1/Vita] Valkyria Revolution on: March 29, 2017, 01:35:58 PM
Not a sequel. From the linked article:

Quote
First things first: Valkyria Revolution is not a sequel to the Valkyria Chronicles series. “Spinoff” would be the right word. It takes place in a whole different timeline, continent, and universe than its predecessors, but familiar elements — such as the precious mineral ragnite and the legendary beings known as the Valkyria — make a return.

Quote
But arguably the biggest difference is the battle system. The turn-based action has been replaced with faster-paced (but no less strategic) combat. This hybrid battle system combines the tactics of customizing squad behavior and loadouts with real-time action for some pretty intense moments on the field.

A bit bummed about the combat changes but still very much in.

Although, doing research just now, it may have been an exclusive for Japan.

I'm not to Meridian yet, just past the site of the you-know-what looking for the War Chief, been off doing far too many side quests and collecting stuff. Had to laugh the first couple of times I picked up ancient relics with descriptions like "black bracelet", "wind chimes" or "toothpick" and the like.  icon_biggrin Also been very impressed with the Strider animations, from the multiple ways Aloy gets on and off to the fact she can leg-over-turn-around to fire backwards, all very naturally animated. IMHO.

Hey, Skin... err, Gratch... maybe it's my imagination but it seems that specifically tagging those weak spots helps with hitting them. Or maybe it's just my imagination that I'm actually tagging them and not the whole beastie. LOL  Anywho, that and concentration (click R3) which I assume you are doing help.

Thanks guys. It was the first one I stumbled across, perhaps missed one elsewhere or perhaps the levels are dynamic. It was not that far out of The Embrace following the main quest line, the keeper is up on top of a hill with a fire and merchant. But perhaps that describes them all, heck if I know.  Yet. icon_wink And yes, I didn't have the sling I needed for one of the trials but I do now. Haven't run any of the trials yet, however, got distracted by the nearby ruins and a 'strange signal' that lead me to my first Tallneck and level 10.  thumbsup icon_cool

Speaking of the Hunting Grounds, how 'level appropriate' are they? Perhaps that's a more general question about the quest levels.

I just stumbled across the first one, I'm not quite level 10 and they show as level 17... does that mean I should wait? Or just give it a shot to see how it goes? At least now I see where this "I got all Blazing Suns" talk comes from. Probably not in my future, though.  icon_frown

It's probably listed already upthread, but what are the "must-have" skills?

The one that lets you sneak attack from hiding places, and the one that lets you attract the attention of enemies by whistling. These are the two skills you should buy immediately. You can get through a lot of encounters without fighting at all by using these two skills in combination.

That stealth / critical hit skill is great. Was just wondering about the lure, thanks for the tip.  icon_cool

Yup, even thru terrain and such. I also find I can hear them (me, not her) before I actually see them sometimes.

For the WiiU version, curious what controllers people are using. Just used the gamepad last night which was... okay... but it seems the screen on it never gets used? It just sat there and blinked a message about playing it on the screen only. I have a pro controller that I'm recharging as it was deader than the proverbial doornail and the normal Wii controller and nunchuk as well.

I started using the pro controller because I read there was no use of the screen on the pad so I didn't see any reason to use it.  I find the pro controller much better to hold.

Thanks. Switched over to the Pro once it was recharged and doing fine with it.  thumbsup
