That is so awesome. I wish I could pop Shawn's tacos. Dude...she's 16! Damn technicality. Only two short years before her tacos are appropriately aged. Okay, I need to stop now. You used the plural again. I am starting to wonder if you know what a taco is.

Yeah, but if you have a solid written test plan, it takes care of people glossing over on things. That should be on the test matrix for vocals and if it isn't, someone in QA needs to be fired.
Wow, relax. Someone needs to get fired because a minor mistake was made? It's not even a big deal- some downloadable content got delayed for a few weeks. I think you'll live.

I was extremely excited about this, but the IGN review dampened my spirits. It sounds too similar to the Gamecube version(aside from the motion controls). Even so, I have it on the way from Gamefly and am hoping to see it tomorrow to try it out for myself.

I really like the idea of this. I do enjoy RB and GH but I also like a lot of Christian Rock as well. Guardian was an awesome band after they broke up the lead singer would have been the new lead singer for Van Halen but his personal convictions wouldn't let him accept it. Also if you never heard of Whitecross they are awesome as well Rex Carol is one of the best guitarists on the planet.
Yeah I like the idea of it too. I won't be picking this one up, but I would really enjoy some kind of GH or RB expansion with Christian music. There's some very talented Christian rock musicians out there and the music isn't as "preachy" as some of you imagine it is.

I really enjoyed the "no death penalty" in Bioshock. The Big Daddy battles were much less frustrating than they would have been otherwise. If this continues to be a trend, that'll be fine with me.

I haven't played either. It appeals to me, but we're still trying to spend more time playing other games I have sitting here like Agricola and Hamburgum. I'll definitely have the TtR Card game on my Christmas list, so I suppose I can give you my impressions in about 4 more months.

Congrats! Cultural victories appeal to me the most, as I'd prefer to never fight and just quietly build wonders and manage my cities. But I don't think I've had more than 1 or 2 in all the time I've played, it seems like it always is easier to go for the space race victory. Now in CivRev, cultural victories are far easier and it takes more work to get the tech victory.

Should we also have a holiday for the thieves who steal someone elses bandwith like that? Show them for what they really are?
Do you do this 'I'm gonna be a contrarian Ogre' act for a schtick or is this how you really are? No this is how I really feel about people who steal the bandwith others are paying their hard earned money for. Its not a act or anything like that, just making a comment, my appologies if doing so offended you in some way that you will never recover from. Why are you here? You are not awesome today. Why am I here? One reason is I know how much it bothers you and others like you that I dare to post here and am allowed to do so. Anything that bothers the trolls is a good thing. BrettMCD, I forgot all about you!!! I'm relatively new at GT and this is the first time I've seen you about. I guess you haven't changed much, this is the kind of thing I remember you doing before. I guess you must a kick out of being "controversial". If it helps you get some satisfaction, then good for you I guess.

The microsoft point system is DESIGNED so that you WASTE money. The micro-transactions want you to have leftover points, so you feel this need to buy more points, and repeat the cycle. I think in the year I've been buying rock band DLC, I've had exactly 0 points left once. By the time all is said and done, I figure 90% of xbox live users will be abandoning 50c to $1.00 worth of points by the wayside. If not more.
If I abandon a few $$$ at the end of the my XBox360 days...I think I'll manage to survive. And honestly, what you are saying doesn't make sense. If I have leftover points, like say 100, I realize I can't spend them on anything. And that makes me want to buy more...but so would having 0 points. The only effect at all is at the end of the line, and honestly losing a dollar or two doesn't seem like such a big deal.

Eel Snave, I also had a Wii and DS at one point as well and kept telling myself there was no reason for me to get a 360. In Feb, I caved in and I only wish I had done it sooner!! It's been fun to try out games I had never gotten to play, and Rock Band has been awesome as well! I don't play M-rated stuff much either(although Bioshock was a worthwhile exception!), but there's lots of other neat games. Heck, the LIVE arcade content almost justifies the console on its own. As for a monthly fee for LIVE, we're talking about $3.50 a month, that should be the least of anyone's worries.

I wish I could understand football. Football seems like the sport which is best suited to a console translation but I just have no friggen idea what is going on! I can't understand what the plays mean so I just choose one and then I have no idea what happens to the football after the snap-sometimes I think my runner has it when the quarterback actually faked and sometimes I think the quarterback has it when he actually passed it off to the runner. How can you beat any game where you keep faking yourself out?
I am having a hard time comprehending, your post is akin to someone telling me they don't understand why 1+1=2. I can understand not understanding all the options and what the different defenses mean. But to be clueless about football just doesn't seem possible!!!

Here in the thumb of Michigan its been a perfect summer weather wise. Every day pretty much has been 75-80 and it rains every couple of days, so my lawn is looking amazingly awesome. I think we've run the air maybe three times all year and that's only because it was sort of humid. It's been amazingly great.
Pretty much every day I keep telling everyone what great summer weather this has been. I can't help myself.

woah boys, slow down. don't stale the genre up now. PQ sold well because it was something new and addictive. keep giving us the same thing and it'll turn into madden and the other crappy sport games.
I think they're safe doing a few similar type games if they feel they can improve upon PQ. Calling out Madden comparisons already doesn't really make sense. When we're on Puzzle Quest 10, then that might hold some water.

Yup, and it does not include the 1910 Mega Game. 600pts for the Europe map.
Man, that's a little steep I think. 400 points for the expansions would be fair. That said, I suppose I won't let a 200 point difference stop me from buying the Europe map, BUT I'M NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT.

My very first game of Pacifism I got 53,000,000 points. Since then I've played about a hundred games and haven't gotten more than 6 million.
I have no idea how I wracked up such a score on my first try. Beginner's luck I guess.
Anyway, GW:E2 is well done and I love the various modes- Pacifism and King are a sweet alternative to the traditional "evolved" play.

This post reads like total bullshit to me, but on the off-chance it isn't, here's some advice: grow a pair. Jesus, your post reads like a 15 year old wrote it. Instead of looking for an out to be able to do this (do you really believe that your wife would be fine with this?), man up and ask yourself what you really want. Do you love your wife enough to withstand the enticements of an obvious slut? You want to sleep with her? So what, that just means your equipment all works. Good for you, now you can either dump your wife for the hoochy or try to make it work.

Ugh, what a lousy way to start my day. I was looking forward to it too, but I can't say I'm very thrilled to buy the same game again.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Shocking News!! Game Reviewers admits not finishing the games for review
|
on: July 15, 2008, 12:21:00 PM
|
But you get to the crux of the problem - deadlines for reviews. While they make sense for print mags - this is the internet. While a game is compelling enough for me to see through to the end is easy to recommend, it's difficult to recommend a lot of games because of the late game problems they run into.
Really, I think the crux of the problem is the pay. Whether someone is doing reviews for a living or for side income, they still probably want to make as much money as they can. Based on what CSL said above, it sounds like a reviewer might be paid something like $100 for a review. Suppose that's conservative and we say the average paid reviewer gets $200 per game, then can we really expect them to play 60 hours(or more) and make a whopping $3.33 an hour? And heaven help the poor bastards who had to review Baldur's Gate II. I can't blame reviewers for not finishing games, and if its standard practice anyway then they should come out and say so. Reviews should be more like "extended impressions". The problem there is that some reviewers would be honest and admit they only played about half way through and others would still act like they finished the game.

I think the pictures are pretty cool, but they are sort of misleading probably due to the viewing angle. Mars has a diameter of 6800km compared to Earth's 12800, so Mars should be a little more than half as tall(and wide) as the Earth. Blame your own eyes, in the picture mars height is about 55% of the earth's height, which is about right. Yeah, I counted pixels. I wasn't saying that it was wrong, it just doesn't "look" 55% as tall. At least not to me.

Anyway, its still a real neat way to put the S.S. in perspective.

I'm on my third game right now on the 360 and I think they did a really great job with it. Sure, its fast paced, but I like it as a reasonably quick alternative to Civ IV. It is a little weird at times because they've brought back some concepts from Civ II(Leonardo's Workshop, for one), but I like it. I imagine I'll play the heck out of it this summer and then probably return to Civ IV at some point.

I guess the limitation is to keep the leaderboards fair, but at the very least they should let you save the GOTW with a "this will disqualify your leaderboard score" disclaimer.
I'm sure you're right. If you could save, then you undo every bad move/combat and really optimize your score. This way, you can learn from your mistakes, but its going to require to start the game over entirely. I don't think this is a bad idea for a leaderboard type thing.

This morning she wanted to take a shower with me. I'm getting to the point where I think she's almost too old to be taking showers with Dad, so I told her that I thought she should take one by herself. almost too old? Wow, I thought my girls were too old by the time they were 3. Dang. Everyone's different I guess. Anyway, hang in there. Our youngest, also 6, is pretty explosive as well. Very similar to what you are describing. It seems like I've developed a feel for when are the right times to be strict(grounding her, isolating to her room, etc.) and when are the right times to be more lenient and try to talk her through whatever is setting her off. Anyway, it seems to be working as her behavior is improving.

Picked up the full game after seeing the movie this weekend (great film) and seeing good reviews (including GT). A lot of fun so far, though I've only played the demo level.
One question: Am I missing something or is there no way to replay levels other than to start the game over?
On the level load screen you can push left and right to switch between levels. However, this might only become available after defeating the game. I had the same question as you and only noticed the arrows that indicate to push left or right after finishing the game. Maybe they were there all along. Anyway, its a fun little game, but it only takes about 3-4 hours to finish. I was going to replay it again on the hardest difficulty, but I couldn't get fired up about it. So I sent it back to Gamefly.
