"Not in the face!"

"Aaaaaannnnnd open! Guess not. Where's a droid when you need one?"

She turns to the crewman. "Think you can force it?"

"Hey, anybody in there?" calls Tho. She looks around for a control panel to blast. That's how they always do it in the holovids, right?
84  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: August 13, 2013, 01:09:09 AM
I was thinking something's similar earlier. On the one hand, listening to their customers and not simply steamrolling forward (like Sony did with the PS3) is admirable. On the other, they have backtracked on so much at this point, you can't put too much faith in anything until the system is out, at this point. Perhaps they should have had more market research earlier in the process.

"Heading that way now. Any signs of survivors?"

No interest in animal crossing whatsoever, but thanks. I'm just bummed about the system. I loved both series on DS. I should be super excited about this.

This was going around late last week...Thursday or Friday I think? I have interest in a Vita, so I would definitely do that. My plan had been to keep one of the PS3s for watching movies and such. But I have the ps4 preordered from amazon, and more than enough trade credit at GameStop to buy that bundle...hmmmm. I worry that theVita will wind up gathering dust like my PSP did, and like my 3DS does now (DS was a totally different story, but these days, most of my gaming is on PC or iPad)

Yup, very linear. It is a gear-based game, but not in a random loot sense....more in using cash to buy new stuff.

95  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] Shadowrun Returns (official review on Page 3) on: July 26, 2013, 04:31:39 PM

I don't know Earthdawn well, or really Shadowrun for that matter, but weren't they different worlds/realities. My understanding is that Shadowrun is supposedly set in the 6th World, Earthdawn set in the 4th World, while our contemporary Earth is in the 5th? I never really did read far enough into it to understand FASA/CGL's ideas behind it.

I don't know why in my head, Earthdawn occurs later, but apparently that is incorrect, sorry. They are definitely part of the same timeline, though. There is an ebb and flow to the magic level in the world. Earthdawn and Shadowrun take place at different points when the magic level is increased. Catastrophically bad things happen when the magic level gets too high or too low.

Decker sequence looks cool, KD, thanks.

Went with an Elf - Decker with a focus on Ranged - pistols and a decent dodge. I've learned to really appreciate the decking whenever it comes time to hack. slywink

How's the decking? I'd think that would be one of the hardest things to get right.

@Tebunker: yeah the isometric view gives it an old-school fallout 1/2 feel for me. I do love the setting as well, though I'm partial to Earthdawn, which (for those that don't know) takes place in the same world, but much later, during a different Awakening. It's funny, I actually went to dig up a Shadowrun rule book yesterday and realized I don't have one. Thought I did. I still have all my old ED stuff.

though with a fairly robust editor and rabid fan base, my hope is that even without the dlc / addon campaign there will be A LOT of created content - and again considering the fanbase at least a few additions will be very good

Hopefully, they'll give us a way to find the quality content amid the inevitable dreck.

The bigger bonus IMHO is the one guy standing at the bar you walk into early on. He's a mite familiar for some reason or another... biggrin
I think that's more of a "your character will start the game with a SPECIAL ABILITY only available to backers" than the DocWagon stuff. You shouldn't be getting your crew killed that much anyway. Tongue

Also, SR is just absolutely awesome. I want to keep playing and yet I don't want to as otherwise I'll beat the included story too quickly.

I actually stopped right when I went into the bar. Really liking what I saw in the early going. Nice tactical options, even on new characters. Hopefully the campaign is nice and long. And they are already working on the Berlin DLC.

I made a physical adept, what is everyone else using?
100  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Next gen purchase poll on: July 26, 2013, 03:07:53 AM
Percentage of people likely to buy is a very different thing from units shipped. Sony had better meet demand, because there are likely to be a considerable number of people (among average consumers) that will buy the xb1 as an alternative, if it has better availability.
101  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] Shadowrun Returns (official review on Page 3) on: July 26, 2013, 01:38:16 AM
Anybody who backed the Kickstarter know why the DocWagon item in game says it is consumed when used? It would kinda suck if this were a one-use item. Maybe it is once per mission or something?

Tho was born Tho Ma’Dro, but no longer uses her family or clan affiliation.

After she was asked to transport a freighter from Ryloth to the Inner Rim, Tho discovered there were Twi’leks hidden on board by Black Sun. Tho fled to Tatooine with the ship, set the Twi’leks free, then destroyed the freighter, making it look like an accident. Since then, she’s been reluctant to stay in one place for too long, taking whatever jobs she can in order to get by.

If it is discovered Tho still lives, the rest of her family might be endangered. She hopes to eventually become a legitimate trader and return to her family, but she’ll have to find a way to settle things with Black Sun first. Considering she doesn’t even know whose slaves she set free, that could be difficult.

Auto Assault had so much potential, and then they released it....

I'd say it had so much potential, then they designed it. That game was a trainwreck long before it came out. It was obvious at the time that there was no clear vision behind the game.

I'm not sure what to make of the kickstarter. I looked at it yesterday, and I can't put my finger on it, but something had my spidey-senses tingling.

Actually, I think a Jawa would be awesome.

More dice is definitely better. I just ran each of those 20 times (4 ability dice, versus 1 ability + 2 skill).
For 4 ability 0 skill, 61 successes and 41 advantages total.
For 3 ability 2 skill, 49 successes and 33 advantages total.

That doesn't factor in the "boon" aspect of the occasional Triumph result, though.
119  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Star Wars: Edge of the Empire - Forum RPG - OOC thread on: July 21, 2013, 12:30:22 AM
Make a Jawa!

Honestly, I suggest doing whatever seems the most fun. I'm sure Turtle can adjust for party composition. Being slightly competent is probably good, though. That's one reason I went with a Smuggler instead of a Trader, so I could have a combat skill in-class.

Working on my background. I think I have the basic idea figured out and should post it later (I'm not an uber-SW-fan, so figuring out the lore side of things isn't trivial).

Hey Turtle, are we assuming the characters will know each other? Does one of the characters own the ship? How do we choose equipment?

Still out of town, so I haven't yet. I'm also willing to change what I'm doing if need be.
