Oh pff, it's copyright 2002.  Dredging up a comic that old or fuck, posting any Penny Arcade comic is just as bad a geek sin as the cliche 'M$'.

I'm suing this thread for infringing upon my T$R trademark Tongue
4562  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / First game you ever played on the PC? on: October 13, 2005, 11:59:07 AM
Probably Eliza or Wumpus on TRS-80.
A lot of the other titles here bring back memories, though.

Anybody play Crimson Skies: High Road to Adventure?
I'd love to be able to play that...better yet, I'd love to see a new game in the franchise but I'm not sure who even holds the right to the license at this point.

What you may end up wanting to do is get something like this

Then you can use the dvi connection for your computer.
*shrug* I don't know.

I'm sure you'll figure it out and congrats on getting a great monitor.

Shouldn't be a problem- the monitor comes with S-Video and Composite video inputs.  And when you get a next gen console that supports DVI or HDMI out it also comes with a second DVI input so you should be all set!

Since when? Mine doesn't have a second DVI, nor does Dell's website mention it. If it had one, I would have gotten a second one.
4568  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Consoles on LCD on: October 10, 2005, 03:16:37 PM
Typing on a 2005 (on my mac) as we speak, but I actually just bought Gateway's new 21 incher for my PC. The reason I went with the Gateway was because of the component input, as I'm planning ahead for a console purchase. I'm using the DVI port for my PC.

Regardless you got a great price on the 2005 and I think you'll be happy with it.

I believe it is because you can have CoV without having CoH and vice versa.

Bingo. It isn't an expansion in that sense. CoV can be purchased and played without CoH. They're separate games in the same sense that identical twins are separate (alike yet different)...of course with one being the evil twin.

I'm really anxious to see how Burnout is going to look on 360 as well.
4573  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Full Auto Looks AWESOME! [360] on: October 06, 2005, 03:48:36 AM
I dunno...I've watched X360 trailers/videos for NFS, PGR, Full Auto, and Ridge Racer, and that was the order that they impressed me in from high to low.

I like the concept of Full Auto, I just didnt think it looked all that great as a game. I wish I could put my finger on it, but I can't...I just can't shake the feeling that when Full Auto 2 arives, it will be good, but that this one will be a better tech demo than a game.

Mind you, that's purely a gut instinct from brief bits of footage.
4574  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Screencaps from the Gamestop/EB Oblivion DVD on: October 04, 2005, 11:33:41 AM
Yeah it was amazing....but here's my question about this...

Seems to me like the mod community was huge for Morrowind, not only in doing things to tweak game balance and fix bugs but also in extending the replayability. Will you be able to use those on the Xbox if you have the hdd or are you outta luck?
4575  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Burnout Revenge on: October 03, 2005, 01:06:01 AM
Quote from: "rrmorton"
I wouldn't say Crash Mode is harder, it just uses slightly different mechanics.

Just like in Burnout 3, there were one or two crash mode events that really gave me a hard time and I had to replay dozens of times to get gold. But the vast majority of crashes were winnable with just 3 or 5 or maybe 10 tries.

I've found that the difficulty in the crash events in PSP's Legends is extremely wonky. Most events are trivial...crash into the obvious spot and rake in the damage and gold on the first try. Others seem downright impossible. I'm certain I've done paradise peril 50+ times, and come within 300 or 400 bucks of the 400k target a couple of times.

Heheh...well, the xbox at the gamestop by where I work now has XMen legends in it, instead of Revenge, and I broke my PSP doing...of all things...a crash junction called Paradise Peril.

So no more crash junctions for me Tongue
4578  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Burnout Revenge on: September 23, 2005, 01:08:46 PM
See, I like the crash mode in Revenge (though I've only tried a few levels of it). The fact that you can check traffic into strategic places really adds to it for me. With Legends (which I'm making the presumption is much closer to B3 ) it's more a case of trying to get your car to the right spot...often with frustratingly little room for error.
4579  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / X-Men Legends II Review is up! on: September 23, 2005, 02:06:21 AM
Played around witrh this on an xbox seemed fun.
There wasn't a whole lot of skill involved , which for me is actually a good thing. I was worried you'd have to pull off all these intricate button moves like in a fighting game. Could you talk about the difficulty settings and progression through the game?

I still remember playing a bit of Wizardry VII: Crusaders of the Dark Savant way back in the day.  Wow that was a looooong time ago!.

But it would be neat to have a Wizardry game for the DS!

Dude...I remember playing Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord...a LOT.
Go look it up young'un slywink

The dual screen ought to work really well for a wizardry style game.
4581  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I broke my psp :( on: September 20, 2005, 02:24:39 AM
Well, I wish I'd bought it at CompUSA, because I've always had good results whenever I used their repair cntractor (the one time I did have an issue, it was quickly resolved to my satisfaction). I bought it at Target, though, because everyone else I could find was sold out at the time.

I just hope I don't get into a hassle situation with whatever they send back having a bad screen.

That and now I'll have to go buy some more hori screen protectors....I pulled the old one off and stuck it in a ziploc, but I doubt I'll get it back on in great shape.
4583  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I broke my psp :( on: September 19, 2005, 08:59:03 PM
Not exactly sure what happened, but I'm fairly certain that a spring on the analog stick broke or popped off. The stick could no longer be moved "up" and neither the stick nor dpad could be used to move up or down.

It happened while doing a crash scenario in Burnout Legends. I had hit a crashbreaker and was trying to aftertouch into a bonus and I heard/felt a slight pop.

I've sent it to Texas to Sony's repair center. I should have a refurbed/new one hopefully by the end of next week.

This is the website for the new game from Tetsuya Mizuguchi, creator of Rez and Space Channel 5, announced last week for PSP. Check out the video, it looks totally wild.

I haven't played Rez, but have heard so much about it. For those who have, how does it compare to what you see in the video?
4585  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / EB (Canada) + Trade-in Business model [UPDATED.. it's ON!] on: September 19, 2005, 11:34:54 AM
Interesting since, unless I'm confused, all EB stores will become Gamestops in a few weeks. FYI Gamestop (at least locally) has a deal going right now where the more you trade in at once, the more you get on each (i.e. 2 games= +20%, 3=+30%, 4=+40%). You could probably approach the EB deal on some newer games.

That would be pretty bad playing with the analog stick and using the buttons as the other "stick."  I just don't see how that would control HALF as well as the PS2 version.

Doesn't sound very fun then in that case.

They aren't using the analog stick at all.
Two sets of 4 buttons.

I just tried a Crashbreaker Race preview and that mode adds a very fun new wrinkle to the formula. This is a normal race that gives you crashbreakers to use during Impact Time... After crashing, wait for one or two opponents to close in behind you and then BOOM take him out with an explosion.

Ahhhh THAT must be the one used for the demo. FANTASTIC. I wish the PSP had this. As much as I'm enjoying Legends, I wish it were Revenge instead.

I feel the same way about the demo, but even though I loved it I'm not jonesing to buy the game.  I think it's because they could have added some of these new cool multi-level tracks to Burnout 3 as premium downloadable content and I'd be more than happy to shell out a little cash for them.  I'm not real pumped to pay $49.99 for what to me, boils down to a glorified expansion pack.

Fair enough...I think that's a "I've got Madden '05 and there's not nough new in '06 to justify the expense" kind of thing. For me, since I'm new to consoles and have never owned a Burnout game, it's heaven on a little shiny disc biggrin

Thanks, DiscoJason, that's exactly what I meant.  And part of the problem is that so many of those racers are good.

And Harpua3, I was just being goofy with your typo.

Oh yeah *scratches head* I'm uh down and uhm fly with that. Word up!   (Thanks for the explanation)

*Goes back into his cave*

Seriously, though, this seems like quite a different style of racing, at least if it comes close to the demo for Revenge.

I must have played that demo race 40 times while on my lunch break from work. Never got remotely tired of it.

Still playing the first.
Really like it, but I've just gotten Teliko and feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out how to construct my decks. Glancing at walkthroughs it feels a bit daunting with how much further it goes, but I like the story thus far.

I like the look of MGA2 but have a feeling it's going to look much better in motion.

Anyone notice places that seem good for finding weapons/ammo?  I went to a "blah blah Arms" building, but instead of being an abandoned arms dealer like I hoped, it was a pub!  I've used 2 of my 4 pistol clips and only made 4 shots for a paltry 16 exp.  I need more ammo, or a shotgun!

Police stations.

I remember now!  It was Rollcage (and the sequel, Rollcage: Stage II) by Psygnosis.  They came out for the PC and PS1.

Man, Psygnosis was a GREAT developer.

Yup. Rollcage II was released in the states as "Death Track Racing".
It is worth noting that Psygnosis was not the developer, ATD was (Psygnosis might have been the publisher).

ATD later did LEGO Drome Racers, which is very much a spiritual sequel to the Rollcage series, though I miss some of the neat play modes (esp from RII).

I'll also add a hearty thumbs up for Trackmania (only played demo for Sunrise, but looks great). Great choice, unless you're one of those folks who gets all wigged out about Starforce.

4600  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Best Buy giving out free Burnout Revenge demo disks today! on: July 26, 2005, 11:48:32 AM
I've played the demo level on PS2 at my local Gamestop and it's awesome. I did manage to find a hole in the geometry and fall through the woorld though (over and over and over again).

The highlight came when I got taken out by another racer then hit my crashbreaker...the ensuing explosion took out 2 racers and a city bus. If PSP's Burnout Legends is anything like that, I'm going to be a very happy boy.
