Devil, here's a card for a good therapist I know. You need to talk out that unhealthy fixation you've developed on Major Ruin. He's a video game character, man, and he only lives in one game. Nothing more. Let him go, brother, that's all I ask... Open your palms and drop the gamepad and let him go... ROFL Arkon is right, though. In fact, Major wouldn't be close to my first choice for that task. I'd use Deep Blue or Kameo.

To me, the trial-and-error component is just part of this kind of game, though the fact you can't see the entire screen at once and having that cause problems is a legitimate complaint.
Totally agreed on the voice sound bytes. I wish we could turn them off. Not going to let that mar a rare puzzle experience though.

This is the exactly the kind of thing that some people complain about with Kameo. You can't use multiple approaches to the problem. Try Major Ruin and you'll be fine.

I've got about 100g at level 35, with several blue items sitting in the bank to auction, and a few others that I am hoarding foor my own use in the next 5-10 levels.
Sold a set of Frostguard plans for 50g last night, which made me pretty happy. I can't believe the two items listed above sold for 100g, but then I'm playing on a new server.

I don't know which boss they are referring to (I'm about 2/3-3/4 of the way thorugh) but the game isn't remotely hard (this coming from a console and platforming n00b. The only spot I found frustrating was navigating along the ice paths in one village.

I haven't tried the second batch of 10 missions yet Interesting...that second set of 10 was not ut yet a couple of days ago, so they are adding them in a hurry. There are over 100 extra in Japan already. I presume we'll get the same ones. just localized.

For some reason I was thinking this was a topic about Sony exiting the handheld market. You know...it's funny. I like Exit a lot. Still, I think it would have been just as good or better on the DS. Map on the top. Play field on the bottom. Touch an item to pick it up or use it. Touch rope or stairs to climb. Use the stylus to order companions around exactly like the "click" mechanic in the game, etc.

What Jason said.
Classic side-scrolling puzzle with very slick presentation. If you enjoyed the movement mechanics/jumping style of circa-80s Prince of Persia, you really should pick this up.

With my LCD monitor 720p is definitely the way to go because there is less tearing than with 1080i. Aside from that, the differences shouldn't be very noticable. Pick the one you think looks better and run with it.

No, I don't feel the graphics are inferior at all. I think you have to bear in mind the destructibility of the environment, which is absolutely amazing. I think that is worth sacrificing a little bit in terms of the other visuals (e.g. the cars aren't as nice as NFSMW).
However, Full Auto has some game stopping issues. This game was rushed and needs a patch in a serious way.
The biggies I've encountered:
1) Slowdown, even in single-player. It's pervasive and inexcusable.
2) I have now, on two separate occasions on different tracks, accidentally passed THROUGH one of the artificial track barriers. This basically amounts to there being a hole in the geometry. When this happens you CAN NOT simply pass back through the barrier and continue your race because the barrier is two way. This is posiitively deplorable from a Q&A standpoint.
Bear in mind something when reading my comments:
I like the game. If you care to look back at the thread on the demo, you'll see I'm one of the few that wanted the game MORE after playing the demo. There's a very fun game here, waiting to be found, but there are some serious issues.
I would avoid this one for the time being and hope they fix it, or at least realize it has some flaws going in. I'm still having fun with it, as is my son, but it could have been better. If they make some fixes, this could become pure, shriek-inducing fun. (edit: I take it back...it's shriek-inducing fun even with the problems. The insane stunts/wrecks I've already seen are simply amazing).

You're playing on 360, yes? I don't like the control scheme on the 360 version at all where the frog moves when the stick recenters, requiring you to hold the stick absolutely still. I f you could turn off the springs to play the game it would be so much better.

Oh, I forgot that. I have seen the framerate slow to an absolute crawl when playing head to head. We're talking a momentary side show. That was really surprising. While I don't mind a bit of graphical slowdown in a racing title this arcadish (NFSMW has PLENTY of it but I don't generally hear people complain) this was severe.
Yes, I am playing in a widescreen configuration. I have not seen anything anywhere near as bad when there was a single player.
I plan to spend some more time with it today.
I forgot to mention, the instant replay mode in the game didn't seem anything like what was shown in the developer interview I saw recently. Yes you could slow down time, but I couldn't figure out how to move the camera. I might have been missing something. (edit: I was missing something, my bad). You have to hit a button to pause then you can swing the camera.

Interesting...
Overall not bad. The explosiveness meter is off the scale. The feel is improved a bit from the demo and the cars have more weight than I remember, but largely the same. Sounds are better but still tend to be muddy, much like the on screen action.
Some of the events I've tried so far are pretty tough. It doesn't take a lot to send your car careenng out of control.

PSP has lots of good games...that's the problem. Good games don't sell systems, great ones do. It's the great games that are missing. The unique feature of the PSP isn't the great games it has but the fact you can get a similar console experience that you'd have at home, but on the go. That simply isn't compelling enough for more people to shell out 250 bucks for it (plus).

A week or so ago I saw a Hand of Edward the Odd (rare epic mace) on the goblin auction house for 1300 gold buyout. I pooled all my money together from my characters and barley had enough to get it. Sold it for 2000 the next day. Nice! And here I was so happy a nabbed a couple of copies of plans to make mithril spurs for a couple gold, LOL. I do so enjoy buying up other people's auctions and reselling for more money.

I didn't mind the controls on deep blue so much. They could have been more intuitive, but the only time I found it really annoying was transitioning between walking and swimming.
I really like that the various elemental heroes all have such a different feel to them just moving around.

What's the big deal with that boss? I hear a lot of complaints about that fight but just don't get why. I could see people being bothered by the fact that there's one and pretty much only one way to get though those fights, but I still rather enjoyed them. There's certainly nothing hard about it or I never would have gotten past it.

#2 - I have the EB protection thing and I'm not sure they have any to swap it out for.
I didn't know this piece of information. I think I heard that if you swap yours out with MS and get a new unit with different serial, then your protection plan is no more. So, if you aren't experiencing serious issues, I would hold off until EB starts to get more and then spring it on them one day before your year is up. I know that on the forms we use at Gamestp the Serial No IS recorded and is tied to the plan. Not sure about EB but it is a good question.

Keep an eye out for Monster cables used at Gamestop. It isn't that uncommon to get them in, and the skus used for system cables aren't brand specific, so you can walk away with some good quality cables cheap. Same goes for a lot of other used accessories (e.g. I got a Nyko PSP charger case for 7 or 8 bucks).

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Would anyone recomend Kameo?

on: February 03, 2006, 12:43:36 PM

Yeah I think that one only took me a coupe of tries and I pretty much stink at this kind of game.
Kameo is not a hard game. The one place that frustrated me was the mountaintop village, because getting around is hard. Having said that, I've played about 20 hours but haven't finished (maybe 2/3 through). If you like to poke around and explore the secrets there is a lot fo play time here.
OTOH my 360 hasn't come on in weeks thanks to World of Warcraft.

I really, really hate the integration of Live profiles and save game profiles. I was having internet difficulties one evening and couldn't play NFS:MW single player without being signed into Live. Ridiculous.
Myto, I had something very similar happen with Condemned my first day Kevin, that makes no sense. Yes, you'd have to be signed on to your profile, but that's got nothing to do with whether or not you are connected to live. There must be another explanation.

Wipeout pure is an exception though. For other games, if that's all you are going to do, 32MB is a lot of storage. The larger cards are more for copying lots of music/movies and other multimedia stuff.

So I go into GameStop and they say they can't tell me if I'll get the faceplate if I pre-order Full Auto. Yet, if I go to GameStop.com or EBgames.com, I have to pay shipping. Maybe I'll try next week or give them a call. Graham, it isn't at all unusual for info to lag behind getting to the retail stores. Back before i started working at gamestop, I preordered City of Villains from gamestop.com because the local store didn't have the preoorder boxes or know anything about them. They did get them in after a while, though.
