I love these threads.  And much gratitude to you for doing them EVERY week, even weeks like these biggrin

I agree wholeheartedly with TML!  I look forward to this thread every Monday.  smile

Even if, like this week, I have no purchasing plans whatsoever.  Titan Quest will keep me nicely occupied for several weeks!

Ditto all around. Thanks Destructor!

I'd thought about trying that combo storm/war or maybe storm defense for my next combo. Since I'm doing the bow thing now I want a more up-close character so I don't have to pull the screen out so far.

Wow oh wow. I just found my favorite item by far, when I did the Olive Grove Quest.

Paean (a necklace)
11-22 damage (yes...on a necklace)
+14 str
+13 dex
+45 health
+18 offensive ability

My "greatest damage dealt" immediately jumped 25 points, from 59 to 74.

Cool, I didn't know there was an English demo available.
Please, please tell me that the music didn't change.

Others you may want to consider:
Metal Gear Acid 2 - stealth/card strategy mix
Lumines - fun puzzle game, to slow for me, but zen-like for others
Hot Shots Golf - addictive fun title, especially if you like anime like chars

All great choices.

If you want a great choice for free, download the 2.7 firmware (assuming you have no interest in homebrew) and track down the Japanese demo for Loco Roco.

Wow! Sounds like you made out like a bandit! Grats. Sorry about the pixel.

Re: Gamestop, obviously I'm biased, but if this thread has demonstrated anything, it's that not all are created equal. If in doubt check with the store manager before you make a hardware purchase on what the pixel policy is.

4250  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Phoenix Wright: Adventure games rise from the ashes on DS on: June 27, 2006, 09:34:05 PM
Well....I finished PW last night, on a 3+ hour romp through the final stages of the fifth case. Finishing any game is a rarity for me, and is a testament to just how good this one is. It isn't all that short eiither. I imagine I put 20-25+ hours into it.

Let me say that the game gets better with each passing case. The last one, in particular, is an absolute blast because it is more intricate and introduces some elements that add more interactivity to the investigation side of things. I realy like that while I figured out lots of things, the game was generally good at holding back twists or motivations behind events without pulling things totally out of left field. No matter how much I thought I knew, there were always surprises left. One particular moment in the final case had me cackling with glee (when the prosecution announced a certain witness on the final day of the trial).

I'm really hoping that we'll see more of the interactive elements in the second game (PW: And Justice for All). It would be even better if there were multiple outcomes and we could take it off rails just a bit. Even without those things, the sequel will be a no-brainer preorder for me the moment that option becomes available.

I encourage other people to do that, not just because I work for gamestop, but because I think it would be great to show the company and the publisher just what kind of following the game has.

Contact Nintendo through nintendo.com and have them send you a new unit (they'll take your CC number, but won't charge it unless you don't promptly send the other unit back).

They could do that, but there's no need. The Gamestop he bought it from should exchange it with no hassle.

Per your advice on my bad pixel issue, I gave another EB location a shot for an exchange.  They claimed, like the other EB, that there was a "company wide email" telling them not to exchange for pixel issues.  When I asked them why other EBs in the countery were, they simply explained "they aren't supposed to."

There's a Gamestop I'll probably try my luck at, but at this point it feels like going through Nintendo will be less hassle.

I guess the Boston area just isn't as customer focused as your district. frown

That's unfortunate. It really angers me when people have bad experiences like this. Yeah, I know it isn't my fault, but I know the reputation that GS/EB have among some of you and there are those of us fighting against that every day. I gotta tell you, it can sometimes be frustrating to work your tail off and come home to hit your favorite internet hangouts and see people attacking the company you work for. Then again...half the time I don't really blame them.

At any rate (sorry for the rant) I'm with ATB: As a consumer I wouldn't stand for this.

Damn you for having a copy of Phoenix Wright! It was one of those games around Christmas that I told myself I would get at the beginning of the next year and then suddenly it disappeared. I always look for used copies and can never find them.

I just eBayed it, and paid a little to much.  I had to try one of the few DS games Devil liked smile.  I haven't played an adventure in years either, so this is pretty fun.

Just finished this last night (a very rare thing for me). Absolutely wonderful game, and it just gets better with each new case. The final case (the one added for the US release) in particular is downright exquisite. I can't wait for the next one!

FYI I highly endorse cdjapan.co.jp having ordered from them on a number of occasions.

Zookeeper is decent, but it definitely doesn't have that "zone out" bejeweled feel. Meteos and Magnetica are too frantic.

Hey...does she like music? Maybe Electroplankton. That's probably the closest thing I can think of to a Bejeweled-like experience on DS. If you're not familiar with it, though, it's not a game. I'd read up on this one before picking it up. If you have trouble finding it you can do a store locator at gamestop.com. I'd suggest buying it used or at least getting it somewhere you can return it if she doesn't like it.

Stiffler, that Dr. Mario cart is a fairly recent re-release, which may account for the price.

Animal Crossing seems like the best candidate. You might also consider Meteos if you like the puzzle-type games, as there are quite a few unlockables. Another possibility might be Castlevania, which isn't open-ended per se, but should keep you busy for a while.

The DSL is much more "slick" looking than the old DS...much more like the SP in that respect. In the white, it looks like something Apple would have made.

I have the same case as Misguided and it's great. I like it even better for the DS Lite. I always had to cram the original DS in there, but the Lite goes in much more comfortably.

Excellent! That's great to know since I plan to keep the case when I get a Lite. Only problem is I've gotten to a point where all the cartridge pockets are full

I simply can not speak highly enough about that case. BTW, it comes in an assortment of colors (we have blue, black, and pink). I actually found the first one because I bought it used at work. I loved it so much that later, after we wound up with 2 more systems for my daughter and me, I spent 2-3 hours on the net figuring out what case it was and where I could buy them. Then I got lucky and found 2 at the same local CC and did an in-store pickup. Black for me and pink for my daughter...too perfect.

Great quality for the price, IMO.

going on the topic of the case..has anyone ever came across a case that holds games?  I'm tired of having to carry the cases if I want to take more than one game.  Do they have mini cases for the games you can get?  maybe that fit in some sort of case for the ds lite..

We have three of this case in my house and absolutely love them. It has ac adapter storage, a separate zip pocket for the ds you access from the side (not inside another compartment), a plastic sheet insert that holds 9 ds carts perfectly, plus a separate zippered internal pocket to hold gba carts or accessories...all in a package that isn't too bulky. It is, IMO, the perfect case and is one of those products I REALLY wish we could carry at Gamestop because I'd sell them by the dozen.

NOTE: I have NOT tried this case with a DS Lite. The original DS fits in there quite snugly. With a Lite, it might be advisable to add a piece of foam or something to the compartment so it doesn't slide around.

They have turn-based battles where if you press a button at a particular moment you can inflict more damage or block attacks.

It's that kind of stuff and the mention of combos etc that worries me. Is it twitchy? I'm not a twitch gamer. I'm really enjoying Castlevania on the DS, but if it's significantly more twitchy than that or I have to handle lots of different button combos, I might get frustrated with it. I dunno...I keep hearing this one is so great, but the box doesn't seem to do it justice. maybe I should just grab it at work and give it a shot.

In the meantime, I'm happy with my old DS.
