I've had an aeron, currently have a freedom chair. I think chairs are one of those things where you get what you pay for to a fair extent. However, if you've got an office furniture showroom in your area, I've had good luck getting high end chairs that were gently used or floor models at great prices.

Uhm...wow  saywhat

So, it is turn-based, but with timing mechanics. Interesting.

Valiant Hearts looks great too, but there's no sense of the gameplay at all in that trailer.

I know Ubisoft has taken something of a beating in the last couple of years at the hands of gamers, but props to them for backing projects like this.

Actually, to disagree with what I just said, I could see them selling digital cheaper and including retailers in the promotion. GameStop has been selling digital copies of software for some time. I presume BestBuy and Walmart can do so, or could add the capability.

I could see them 6mo - 1y from now putting out a flagship game like Halo5 both local-and-online-only as options - and selling the online only version cheaper to move the market into a more gradual adoption.

I don't think that they will be in a position to do that this gen, the retail partners are still too important. I could, however, see them do other sorts of value-added promotions that amount to the same thing (like buy a digital copy of title X and save ten bucks off title Y).

Has there been any noise made yet about "trade ins" of digitally purchased items?

Okay, really depends on how this upcoming colonoscopy goes on the 17th.   I’ve been having upper and lower GI issues for years, but lately things have been worse.

Which prep are you using, Soulchilde? If they want you using GoLYTELY, ask for other options. That stuff will make your year feel considerably worse. Had my 2nd one earlier this year, and the prep was so much easier, but can't remember the name. You may have to be more for an alt prep, depending on your insurance, but worth every penny if you can swing it. The stuff you had to drink was a much smaller quantity, and was more gentle. You still have to drink a fair bit of liquid with it, but can drink almost anything you want. Overall volume is less and you aren't trying to gag down a gallon of that swill.

Back on topic, this year has been much better than last, which was pretty miserable for most of it.

Destructor, while that makes a certain amount of sense, and could definitely see new developers going that direction, there's no way that developers that already have experience on the platform are going to suddenly stop producing content for it. As the others have said, it will take quite some time before the install base for the new systems catches up to the existing generation, and sales is the bottom line.

Sounds from his comments about the offset sticks that he probably played most of his games on the PS3 last gen so that has probably coloured his impressions of the Xbox controller a little.

No, he said more pronounced and references using a 360 controller on PC. It sounded to me like he was comparing it to the existing 360 controller.

Extra month's worth on the down payment, you mean?

No, I mean once the mortgage is set up, make a double payment (or you could split up across more than one month). The point is, at the beginning of your mortgage, almost all the money goes to interest, not principal, so paying the equivalent of one extra month takes a lot of time off the length of the mortgage (because the extra all goes toward the principal. Iirc, on a 30 year, that one extra double payment takes off around 7 years. Don't recall the exact numbers, been a while.
68  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: How are you feeling about your pre-orders now? on: August 25, 2013, 11:02:24 PM
Way off topic, but super important.

If you buy a house, find a way to scrape up an extra month's worth if there's any way at all you can. A single extra payment takes YEARS off your mortgage.

Microsoft had a lot of serious missteps in announcing their new console, but I think most people acknowledge that they've gone out of their way to correct their course and give people what they're said they want.  For me, the value proposition still balances favor of Sony...but by a much slimmer margin than it used to be.  It's easy to imagine that someone with slightly different preferences might come to a different conclusion.

Yup. The marketplace spoke and they changed course. I never would have believed they would, but kudos to them. I still find it shocking they were so out of touch, but I really shouldn't.

If the preorder situation was even close to equal MS wouldn't have been scrambling around like a chicken with its head cut off and reversing all its policies and decisions.   The question now is how well has their damage control worked?

Honestly, if things stay on the current course, and assuming there aren't major hardware failures or supply problems, etc. I doubt most people will even remember all of this in 2-3 years.

We've made the switch from Live to PS+, and I love that it will reap benefits for PS3, PS4 (when it comes out), and (as of yesterday) my new Vita.
70  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Star Wars Returns as a Tabletop RPG - FFG's Star Wars Edge of the Empire on: August 24, 2013, 07:51:26 PM
The best advice I can give you is to not let the rules get in the way of having a good time. If you don't know how to handle something, wing it. Don't sit there for 10 minutes trying to figure out a rule while everybody gets bored. Go back after the session and figure out what you should have done in that situation so you don't run into the problem again. And with this system, if you aren't sure how to handle a skill check, pick an attribute and skill that makes sense, and run with it.

You know, I had dual 8800GTS cards for a long time, but I like not having to worry about whether a particular game supports SLI or not. I currently have a single 6970, and have been happy with a single card. I don't know, I was just never sure if I was benefitting from the dual setup or not.

I also have a confession to make:  since I got the 780 and a 3D ready monitor I just made an impulse buy on the nVidia 3D Vision 2 kit.  figure it should be a fun experiment smile

I'm still rocking a 570 GTX.  The rest of my system is obscene, but the graphics card is getting long in the tooth.  I wonder if SLI would be good or replacing the card would be better.....
