I have to say that I find the Twitter messages of the "we're listening" type very encouraging though (this was from the DRM campaign). I have a hard time imagining Sony representatives posting such supportive messages if they were about to give us bad news.

I have a hard time believing MS would agree to this used game system(that they themselves don't make money on), take all this heat and let Sony have the PS4 run used games like they are now on the current generation. If they did then MS has royally screwed up.

Why would you think they won't be making money on the sale of new licenses?

Because they've said as much. Check the last two bullet points. We shall see of course but that's the current official information.

Uh, ok. Maybe I'm confused. I thought the whole deal was that people were going to have to buy a license to play the game. That makes it sound like they intend to handle the transfer of licenses to retailers then back out to other customers. Sounds like a big convoluted mess.

Be aware that they introduced a ping limiter recently that defaults to an upper end of 300ms, so if your ping time I scrappy, it may be harder to find groups.

Drop tables for defense missions were dramatically changed today. Level 5 reward on Xini (Eris) was a tower 2 or 3 void key on about half the time. Time to do some void runs.

Also got a Hate blueprint off the stalker earlier. Suh-weet!

Bought Scurvy Scalawags, it's a match 3 game by Ron Gilbert and it's awesome.  I usually don't like match 3's as I get bored of them quickly but this has some RPG and strategy aspects that make the game different from the rest.  It has a nice sense of humor and good production values.  It's only .99 and seems well worth it.

I wish there were more variety to the enemies. I've played several islands and only seen two special abilities. Other than that, it is pretty nice. There's lots of stuff to collect, but not much of a sense of progression in an RPG sense. You accumulate bonuses and things, but mostly they are small, incremental things.

Agreed.  It's a fun diversion, but not something I'm going to sink a ton of time into.  Takes a while to get used to their particular style of match-3 movement.  I got up to level 8 last night, and it gets really damn difficult.

I think I'm ... Level 13? I lost a heart once, but didn't notice it at the time and got it back for completing a quest. I don't find it hard to keep the enemies away from me most of the time.

And just to clarify, that's true of any app, not just this one. It needs roughly double the install room if you download directly.

You're downloading directly to your iPad, so it needs to have enough space to download the entire file, then install it. If you install through iTunes, you won't need as much space.

This. Aspyr's FAQ said it needs double the file size to install, if you can't get it to install, do it go through our computer.

Yeah, Wonderpug is right.

Gratch, I'm with you on TA reviews. Part of it is that they choose to focus on games that are worthwhile most of the time. That's actually a good thing, because 90+% of the App Store is crap, but their excitement for things often feels a bit inflated.

The dance is over for tabletop RPGs unfortunately. The music has long-since stopped, though there are some stragglers on the floor that haven't realized it yet.

They aren't bringing in new people. The younger set are either playing warhammer/CCGs or computer/console games.

Buyer beware. I finished up the British campaign and started into the Ameican campaign and... it's the same thing. The planes are different, but the missions seem identical and follow the exact same progression. You even start out with the same mundane tutorial missions.

The game itself is still fun, but unless the French and German campaigns are somehow different, I don't recommend anyone pay for more than the $1 British campaign.

The campaigns are all the same (you can skip the tutorial missions by choosing the accelerated option). Since there is a choice of missions, though, there should be plenty of replayability. Some have remarked that the planes feel significantly different/require different tactics, but I haven't tried yet.

Seen this a few times lately, where a game that looks really cool during development, ends up being full of suck to a greater or lesser degree. I'm looking at you Hell Quest. Having a vision when designing a game is really important, but you have to take a step back sometimes and ask "is this fun?"
187  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: [iOS] Eclipse: New Dawn on: May 07, 2013, 08:43:16 PM
I actually expected it to be 9.99, surprised it was so low.
There are a couple of video tutorials for the board game that really help get the basic idea down. My sense is that it is kind of codex by board game standards, but not at all by 4x computer game standards. I haven't picked it up yet, but definitely will at som point. I like the idea that there are a limited number of turns, as one of my dislikes of 4x games is the way they tend to drag on and on.

Quote from: Gratch on May 07, 2013, 01:05:01 PM

No, it's not the latest entry in the Twilight series, but rather a very impressive looking 4X space-themed TBS game.  Anything that draws comparisons to HOMM gets my attention, and I've seen a couple glowing reviews.  $6.99 is a little steep, but it looks awfully interesting.

Has anyone given it a shot?

Actually, the developer has said on the TA forums that each chapter will be a completely separate APP. They say they have a system in place to import characters from one to the next.

I've also seen the statement (can't recall where) that the first is the shortest, but not sure.

I would ask this, what would you think of an adult that just now is watching Batman The Animated Series. I think many would consider it a classic and for myself that is the Batman that I put above all others.

I LOVE cartoons, and I can name piles of animated shows (or children's shows in general) that I think are awesome (Muppet Babies, early Blues Clues, Rollie Pollie Ollie, Arthur, Between the Lions, Madeline, etc). My observation that the thread is surreal stems from your particular choice of MLP. I'd rather watch a marathon of the Wiggles (Fruit Salad, Yummy Yummy!)

The idea that you'd use Batman:TAS in the same context just demonstrates how different our viewpoints are. But hey, if you are enjoying it, rock on! I'm not criticizing, nor would I, just strikes me as really out there.

Awwww heck. Now I've got the Wiggles stuck in my head. Looks like I'll be going insane before Andrew.

The other dudes in the lineup are in Tyler's rap group, right? And Tyler's place is taken by the goat, which he voices. That all makes sense on some level. I think people are getting upset over two things: the misogyny, and equating young African American males with animals (which is a comparison that has unfortunately been around for a very long time).

Unless it is a first gen 20GB model.

From everything I've read, any Blu-ray player will give you a great picture playing a Blu-ray Disc. The PS3 happens to be one of the best upscaling devices for playing DVDs, until you get into big bucks for something like an Oppo. The downsides to a PS3, depending on model, tend to be that it is big and noisy compared to many players.
