If I can pry Animal Crossing out of my 3DS, I'll be playing this Tuesday.

I should be interested in this, but barely used my 3DS since I bought it. Layton and Ghost Recon sit there unplayed. The only thing I spent any time with is Zero Escape.

Yeah, on the CPU, look for an i5 and if you have any remote interest in overclocking, a k series is a must have.
Don't be fooled into thinking an i7 is better because it is more expensive.

Have you considered building your own system? I was afraid of it for so long, but I built two in the last year and change, and it is really fun and rewarding. It can be time consuming, if you really want to dig in and choose every individual component, but you could also get a build from a website or a magazine. I was going to suggest Sharky Extreme's build guides, but it looks like they stopped last year. MaximumPC has them, and I'm sure plenty of other places do as well. At the least, I would look at some of those and compare what you might get from DIY vs buying pre-built.

In case anyone is remotely interested, there's an event this weekend where you can get an exclusive sniper rifle that sound like it will be fantastic. There are some special drones in Grineer missions level 15+. You need to kill 20 (team kills don't count).

Also, there was an update this week that made a ton of improvements, including the ability to customize the color your warframe abilities use (can't color them individually, one choice is applied to all).

It's cool Turtle, just double-checking. I've seen games falter before they ever got off the ground.
If I'd been thinking, I could have ordered this yesterday and had it Monday, to take on my trip.

I'm going out of town next week, but if Turtle confirms we're still on, I'll buy it when I get back.

PS+ sub activated and auto-renewal for Xbox deactivated. *bam*

Yeah, I had no clue they were giving away games of this quality. Going to sign up tonight to download Deus Ex while still free.

I still think the Xbox is going to be the 'better' choice this gen.  Regardless of MS doing a really shitty job with their press management, I just think they have a better feeling of the 'pulse of the gamer' overall.

Not sure how can you say that, when they keep trying to give gamers things they don't necessarily want (DRM, Kinect, TV-related stuff) while Sony seems to be focusing on...you know...games.

Rogue Legacy looks fun and might pick it up.

I was thinking about that, but $14.99 is more than I want to pay for it, so I'll wait for a Steam sale on it.
I just picked it up.  It has a real addictive quality.  Just one more run… and then you look down your family tree and realize you have killed off over 20 generations of your family…

Word of warning though, a game pad is a must for this one.

Bought it for my son earlier and watched him play some. I love the roguelike elements and the way you gradually increase the ability and power of your descendants, but the game is way too twitchy for me to get anywhere.
134  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Is it time for more Joint 'Cross-Platform' Play? on: June 26, 2013, 06:50:12 PM
There's a chance that Warframe will have cross-platform play (PS4/PC). The developer says it is doable, but it depends on what Sony wants.
135  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: It's Not A Placebo If you Don't Think It Is. on: June 24, 2013, 11:11:55 PM
I tried taking a couple of different glucosamine/chondroitin supplements recently, because of chondromalacia in my right knee, even though it didn't really make sense to me medically. They ripped my intestines to shreds. Badly. It turned out that I had underlying IBD, but the supplement precipitated a nasty episode, which I hadn't had up until that point. I don't think I'll be trying it again.

That said, I think there are a lot of things that "modern" western medicine doesn't understand that herbalists and various practitioners in other societies have known for thousands of years.

This sounds just like what I experienced a while back with a machine a day after we had a funky power spike. Same thing, fan would start to spin then power would die. I thought it was the PS, but that turned out not to be the case. I never did figure out exactly what happened.
137  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors begin. on: June 22, 2013, 03:40:30 PM
If I were Sony, I'd be working closely with the major developers to make sure that when these systems hit, that games look just a little better, load a little faster, etc. on PS4 than XB1. And make absolutely certain that the exclusives are on time and fantastic. That would help cement a lead in the early phase of this next generation.

It sounds like Kotaku didn't bother to ask whether or not this was true for the actual game or just the E3 demo.  I'm guessing it was just for the purposes of showing off the game at E3, as I would think most E3 demos are set to impossible to lose "God Mode".

Yeah, I thought the same thing, that this was probably just or demo purposes.

Is the ps4 really 50 % more powerful than the XB1?

It has significant advantages in memory bandwidth and raw GPU performance, yes. I don't necessarily think that will show up immediately, but over time should make a difference. What might be event bigger factor is if significant amounts of CPU power are reserved for all the system stuff in the background, as has been suggested. If the XB1 has more CPU overhead, that could make the difference even more apparent from the start.

Not surprising, and that is likely a corporate mandate for employees just like pushing trade ins. A bit shady but we all know why they're doing it.

No,their relationship with MS is still important, and if GameStop doesn't reserve their allocation, MS will give it to someone else. What you are seeing is the fact that the people that run and work in these stores are people just like us. They are telling customers the same things many of us would. Now, I wouldn't put it past corporate having some kind of incentive for PS4s, like a contest or something.

It seems like it's going to be a bit more complex than that.  Typically, that's going to be correct.  Based on interviews it seems they might make an exception for certain free to play games, so Plus won't be a requirement.  Also based on their rhetoric in regards to why Netflix etc aren't behind a paywall, I would not be surprised if Elder Scrolls Online or any other subscription based MMO does not require plus to be played online.

That makes a lot of sense. So,presumably for something like Warframe, you wouldn't have to have PS+.

This is Gamestop BS of the highest order if I've ever heard it. NO WAY they know this at this stage.

Not true. GameStop could have easily been promised X units by Sony. Those units would then be allocated to stores based on overall volume and PS3 sales. This is probably a conservative figure, so more units may become available later. This is what happened with PS3. GameStop got much more conservative in taking hardware reservations after the 360 debacle (there were people with preorders that didn't get units for 6 months after launch).

Correct. Been known for a few days at least at this point. So you'll be able to play most of your PS4 library on the go on your Vita anywhere.

I've said multiple times that I wish they had done that with the PS3. This is a really compelling feature, IMO, one I might consider buying a Vita for if it weren't for the fact I've played nothing on a console or handheld in many months. Everything has been PC or iPad. Hell, I bought Laton on 3DS and barely played it.
