9 and freaking 1 baby!

Can I get a hell yeah?!

I honestly expected to lose this week. We haven't been playing well, Unger out (in addition to Giacomini and Okung), East Coast trip, etc. What do they do? Come out and play their best all-around game of the year, by far. I wouldn't be surprised if they hold Okung and Giaco out until after the bye, but if we get those guys back and they are full strength (plus Bryant, Harvin, etc) then hopefully we can really get on a roll playing more consistently. This team has not even come close to playing at their peak.

It's not that easy. Still gotta play you guys again and New Orleans. And you know as well as I do that the Rams and Cardinals will put up a fight no matter what the records are. I do like having a bit of a cushion though. Now if we could get Dallas to beat New Orleans tonight...

The Vita? Not free. Not all game styles may fit (consider playing MP street-fighter type game on the same console). It's costing devs time and QA resources to shoehorn a product that has not proven itself on the market.

My impression was that the support was built into the system, so it hopefully doesn't require that much, other than to specify controls, etc.

As far as fan projects go, I'd think the key would be for a group to have enough dough to license an existing game engine (Unreal etc.) and then maybe crowd fund for ongoing development. Lots of games built from scratch take years mad millions just to develop the engine tech.

That's exactly what they are doing...

TiLT, I think we need to define what success and failure mean in this context. If by failing you mean the game will never be commercially successful from the perspective of a company like Bioware or NCSoft, you're most likely right. But I don't think that is the goal. If they can get a working, playable product, and have enough income to pay for the servers and salary to continue improving the product and producing content, they will have accomplished what they set out to do. I think that's possible. Is it a tall order? Yes, but they've made it this far, which is already more than I would have expected.

My wife and son both have cameras from the Sony NEX line. They are very small, take amazing pictures, and are easy enough to use to be a good "step-up" camera. The 5r runs about 600 with an 18-55 zoom lens. They also have an 18-200mm lens available, but it is rather expensive (more than the camera). Take a look at some reviews. They won't give you quite as much fine control as a DSLR will, but is much smaller, lighter, and user friendly.

I think that's the least of their concerns. If they can get to a point where the game is worth playing, they won't have a hard time finding thousands of paying customers.

It's been a favorite here since the beginning. The kids, my wife, and me all watch it together religiously (the power of Caviezel compels you). I'm actually not real happy with the addition of Shaw as a regular. The pacing of the first couple of episodes has felt off, and we get less banter between John and Finch.

And you can deactivate one device to activate another. Iirc, the easiest way to deactivate a device is from the device itself. If you don't have the device (or it isn't working) you can go into your ps account and deactivate all devices, then add the current ones back (you can remove all once each 6 months, I think, without having to contact support).

Btw, there is a promotion right now for over 500 free platinum that I think is still good. The following instructions are for iOS, but I think you can also do this through some other services.

1. Go to the App Store on your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad.
2. Search for "PC Gamer UK" (Not the USA version - both are available in the USA App Store)
3. Download the app
4. Select "free trial," and ALLOW Apple to send your information to PC Gamer (allowing this may not matter, as I ended up having to send an email as indicated below). You will have to select a subscription renewal term, but won't be charged anything if you complete the instructions.
5. Download the issue of the magazine (optional)
6. Go back to the App Store, scroll to the bottom of the "Featured" tab, and click your Apple ID, and tap "View Account"
7. Under "Subscriptions" tap "manage."
8. Under "PC Gamer Subscription," turn "Auto-Renewal" off.
9. after you receive an email receipt from iTunes showing you signed up for the subscription, forward that receipt and a screenshot showing the October issue is available to read to [email protected]
10. You should receive a response with a code after about 5 business days

No, warframes and weapons only go up to 30. There are missions with enemy levels above 90 and they can go way higher in defense missions. Didn't realize anyone else had started playing. I've been playing for months, happy to answer any questions you guys have.

Some weapons are far more effective than others against high level enemies, because of the way armor scaling currently works (supposed to change soon).

Misguided, per the info on the article it isn't a joke - it's an editorial by one of our writers on his top 50 personal picks. I know the title is a little misleading, but in the opening he covers it off pretty well that these are the games that influenced him.

Not that sort of joke. A joke as in, "you've got to be kidding me"

Quote from: Suitably Ironic Moniker on September 20, 2013, 07:44:22 PM

Well, the title of the piece should be "My 50 Favorites" rather than "best" or even "influential" as that is kind of sketchy. I'd actually be interested in a recurring feature like that; various staff members posting their most loved games and why.

This. I already stated previously that it would have been fine to say these are his favorites, but they were also presented as a list of titles that influenced a generation.

It depends on the monetization.  I spend a lot of time and little money in f2p games these days so it really doesn't bother me though I can see how someone looking for a sprawling single player RPG might be disappointed.  Instead we are getting a co-op dungeon crawler with random loot and dungeons which sounds pretty ok to me.

This. If the pricing model is decent, it won't be a problem. Warframe is an example of a game that has tons of content you can access without ever paying a penny. There is nothing gated behind pay walls in that game other than cosmetics and inventory space (many have criticized the latter, but I think it is perfectly reasonable). Some other things are a bit of a pain to acquire, but they can be done.

Card Hunters is another recent example of a game where the vast majority of the content is accessible to free players.

F2P doesn't have to mean energy timers and pay walls.

I believe that between the new Kinect and the integrated TV functionality/voice stuff, that the Xbone will win people over. But it won't be at launch, and it may not be in the first 2-3 years. Consumers are going to have to catch up to the technology. The only way I can see the Xbone being a complete flop is if Microsoft failed to really invest and push those features that differentiate it, and I've never seen Microsoft afraid to throw barrels of money at something they believe in. I believe they do have a solid vision, and one that is cool as hell - they just haven't clearly articulated it.

That stuff may be truely awesome, but I see them having a tough time communicating it to consumers. It isn't something they have a history of doing terribly well, in my opinion (see Zune, e.g.). They are dominant in some markets (PC OS), but that tends to be more because people see no alternative rather than because they think Microsoft products are amazing.
39  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors begin. on: September 15, 2013, 03:12:44 PM
You aren't thinking this all the way through. Their likely objective isn't to artificially inflate demand, it is to keep scalpers from buying up every unit they will have available for the holiday period and allowing them to set the market for what the unit costs.

Quote from: morlac on September 15, 2013, 01:23:14 PM

So they could sell them all through preorders and say sorry sold out but are holding some back to keep demand up and keep the hype train running and selling it as "we are looking out for the consumers".  Essentially they  are decreasing launch supply so they can keep trickling them out so consumers will keep hope they might find one instead of buying the competitors device.
