What is a visit to GT without a post in the "OO Offline" thread?

So is this the 73rd time OO has been down?  icon_wink
Not that I recall but who really knows?

I have posted on a few other threads just not many. Here I am almost a true lurker, at OO I am only mostly a lurker.

GT is filtered as games at work and OO is obscure enough it does not get picked up.

Also OO was my first forum ever and I was introduced my Arcanis and working with Rip at that time.  I don't think I am an avid enough poster to contribute to 3 forums.

I am always grateful and glad to know that there is another forum that will happily give us the floor to sleep on while OO takes its little nap that seems to happen every now and again.
You slept on the floor?!  Sucker!  There was a special suite set up for us with food, booze, hookers and blow.   Didn't you hear the music?

Yeah I was in the party but I would rather not sleep in the huge pile of drunk passed out bodies.  I was happy with my own piece of floor.

Now we all climb back aboard the raft headed for home I am sure there are a few faces that will not jump back on and it still feels more crowded than the last time we did this for the Great OOutage of 08.

I am always grateful and glad to know that there is another forum that will happily give us the floor to sleep on while OO takes its little nap that seems to happen every now and again.  We will of course offer the same if and when GT needs a break.

Actually, I'm curious.  Can someone explain what happened exactly, in non IT Manager terms?  But more explicit than "OO went poof!" ?

Did the server we were hosted on crash, and was not backed up or something?

Just wondering.

Volume drive told people that they were physically moving the servers to another location, so they powered down all the servers without letting their customers know. That is where it gets sketchy, depending on who you talk to.  What volume drive says is that they moved them and were supposed to turn them back on again now that they were at the new location.  That did not happen.  All we know for sure is that the server that OO lived on is currently not connected to the internet and also that the backup service that was supposed to back up the entire OO site stopped working.  Therefore we only have a image of the site from about a month ago.  So now we are waiting and hoping that the OO site will come up long enough so we can get a fresh image of the data and then we will get server space from another company and then be back up and running again.

That is what I believe the story is, not all facts may be correct.
8  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Squirrel wars on: August 27, 2013, 09:11:32 PM
Snares are said to work well. It should be a clean enough kill to where you can clean him and cook him after.1 squirrel might not me enough for a 2 person meal unless you do some sides with it.  You would need to go squirrel stew,  it would definitely not be enough if you were planning on going with fried squirrel.

Also, it would not be a clean kill, you would have to hit him a few times or get lucky, but a pellet gun should cause enough harm to kill him.

Code:
8/26 - 155.4lbs
8/19 - 157.6lbs
1/1 164.4lbs

Total -9.0lbs

Added bike Fri Sat and Sun.  Time to keep going down.

I will go ahead and res this while OO is down.  Me and Arcanis still play quite often.  We are also getting ready to run the final storyline mission.  I have a warrior and he has an engineer.  We do not have a set date planned yet still trolling for interest.  Is there anyone still playing that is at the final storyline mission that has not done it yet?  If there are 3 interested we can do a run like that but if we only find 2 more we can field a 3rd from our group of friends.

I am starting to think the admins just drop one of the forums offline for a while just so we can have a little OO/GT reunion.

Who is making the shirts this time?  We all know it isn't a real reunion until there is a shirt saying so.

Exactly.

It has been brought up on OO about a guild between The Wanders, OO and Gaming Trend.  I like to think of it as the Wandering Overlord Trend guild.  I am curious if all of you would be interested in this.  We would be larger which would hopefully make it easier to find a large group to play with and with such a large group we might be able to have a noticeable presence in World vs World.
21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Guild Wars 2 on: April 10, 2012, 05:28:27 PM
Sorry about that, please Move this Mods.  Or delete this rather.
22  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Guild Wars 2 on: April 10, 2012, 04:32:24 PM
If anyone is interested in Guild Wars 2 the prepurchase is open today.  If you prepurcahse you get into all betas from now until the actual release and you also get a head start in the game when it is released.  There are 3 levels of the game you can buy, all come with beta access.

The idea to create a "Wandering Overlord Trend" (The Wanderers, Octopus Overlods, and Gaming Trend) guild has been brought up. (name still up for debate) I am just wondering if those of you that are planning to get the game would be interested.  This way we will be a larger and hopefully more active guild.  This will give us more of a presence in World vs World and there will almost always be someone to play with.

The OO Vent server went down between 11:30 and 12:00 last night.  Since it is on the same server as the forum I would assume the forum went down at the same time. So it has been down for a good while.

On another note the good thing is that when OO goes down we all get to look over the fence and show our neighbors some love.  You all know you would get lonely if the OOers did not pop in every now again just to say "Hi and who else can't get on OO"  I think the powers that be shut down OO on random occasions just so we can get together and chat an a somewhat regular basis.

Server is 'up' but I still have yet to get a web page to open with it. Seems it is having processing issues, page isn't timing out and every other ping is almost a second and I'm only about 30 feet from the box.  If any of the admins want to try and get it and see what they can do feel free it should be available via your normal connection methods.  I have more fires popping up here at work so i can't devote my day to working on just OO right now.

Hey guys this is Arcanis not Miltonite, I don't have a GT account and he just sent me his info so I can update you guys.

Rip is out of town today so he won't be able to do much to work on OO but I'm working on it right now. I saw it was down and had to rerun the setup script for VMware. The OO VM is currently booting up now, but is moving slowly through the boot process. The server hosting VMware was dragging as well when i was working on it earlier this morning as well. Once i know something concrete to tell you guys I'll post an update in here.
33  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: OO off line for a short time on: November 04, 2009, 08:15:46 PM
Well it is not only FishPants that cant get a hold of Rip there are others here in Louisiana that can't either.  It is not just OO that is down, everything on that server is down which is more important to the company than OO is.  I was also told that e-mail over there is not working as well.

Also, we are good down here in LA no storms or unnatural cold snaps.  Just a failure in technology.

I am gonna have to use it as well.  It will take 7-12 year olds at least a minute to figure out what I am talking about, more than enough time to walk away and them forget their question.

As I said earlier, I will go back even if it is alone.  OO was my first forum, and first loves are never forgotten.

How'd you come across OO?  I can't think how I would've stumbled across it if I hadn't migrated from GG.

I lived with a guy who went by the name Arcanis that just so happened to work for Rip.  At that time I was an avid gamer, we played instead of studying.  One day he just happened to mention that a gaming forum is hosted on the servers there.  I saw him reading a thread and I had to post a reply.  So I registered, posted my response to someone's comment and just kept returning like an unwanted dog.

Also, you found GW, and that makes you cool.  O how I weep for the first years of GW...

One more thing I owe to Brian/Arcanis. He was the one in the open beta, he is the one that let me make a char on his account, and he is the reason I stole my friend's account and really started playing.  He is still the driving force that makes me continue playing.
