81  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood... Yes or No? on: April 08, 2006, 05:43:19 PM
true, but at lest my taste in shiny, expensive shit is an investment.  <3

i like video games a lot more than jewelry, bleh.
82  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / RE: Speechcraft, Shops on: April 08, 2006, 07:39:51 AM
speechcraft can be VERY important in quests, and in getting decent prices at shops.

one you reach Apprentice, you should also get the ability to Rotate the levels once each time you try to persuade.  as far as i can tell, higher speechcraft makes the levels worth more Disposition points, and the maximum Disposition rises slightly.

the easiest way to get your speechcraft up:
approach anyone.  anyone at all.  open the persuasion window with the icon at the bottom of the screen.  randomly rotate the stick (or d-pad) and press the A button rapidly.  this will get you a lot of failures, true, and you may even reach 0 Disposition with the person you are trying to persuade, but that DOESN'T MATTER.  you can continue to persuade a person until you have obtained the maximum Disposition possible for that person (generally around 70-80).  by doing this 'rapid-tap' sort of random persuasion, you will rise in speechcraft levels much more quickly than usual.

however, you must still know how to properly persuade to get the benefits of a high speechcraft.  i just got journeyman, myself, and i still have problems at times, by getting a bad draw on the levels.

prices in shops vary based on several factors: the shopkeeper, his Disposition toward you, his Mercantile skill, and your Mercantile skill.  you will get the best prices from a shopkeeper who has lower Mercantile skill than yours and likes you a lot.  since Mercantile skill only goes up through buying and selling, this can be troublesome for people who can't carry large loads of loot to make good money, but there are ways around this (the Feather spell or Feather potions).
83  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Ghost Recon - Co Op Interest on: April 08, 2006, 07:28:54 AM
purge: =P

last i checked, somebody around here tended to get the most kills on any mission (even without killing her teammates, so nyah).  ^_^

besides which, i know the maps inside out, and came up with most of the strategies that jarrod and i use on them. i am useful, m-60 or not.  Cool  and if you don't believe that, then at least consider my high decorative value, 'cuteness' factor, and hyperactivity as selling points.  <3
84  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood... Yes or No? on: April 08, 2006, 07:18:27 AM
i definitely just randomly murdered somebody to get into the guild.  XD

i nearly always play a lawful-evil sort of character; extremely greed-driven, but will keep promises/contracts unless unduly threatened.  so i take any quest that pays enough, basically, lol......

i fit in with the brotherhood, i guess...except that they're a bunch of marshmallow-fluff-brains.  we're a guild of assassins, and they're spouting crap like "hello, dear!" and "hi, sweetie!" and "ooh, i hope you don't get killed!" and cheerful $#!7 like that.  the item rewards are great, and the bonuses get very nice (although, as a lover of speechcraft, i definitely sold the scales that i got that did int +2 / pers -2).

on a slightly-related topic, anybody else lovin' the Daedric Artifact quests?  i just got the Skeleton Key, and i'm in love with it.  it's my new favorite toy.
85  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / [360] GRAW this weekend? (redux) on: April 05, 2006, 08:09:19 PM
THIS weekend, i'm fine to play GR:AW.  if it were next weekend, i'd be in trouble, because i promised mom i'd be home for Ostara (which should technically take three days or so...).

but i'm good to play all day saturday.  sunday, i'll have to crack down on some homework, so i might not be on then....
86  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Put your own face in Oblivion on: April 05, 2006, 08:04:49 PM
ah, i just eyeballed it, and my chara looks a lot like me (minus the freckles and the crooked teeth).  then again, i've had a lot of experience with looking at my own face (for art projects and such), so i guess i have a pretty good idea of how my skull's built.
87  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I now officially don't understand Fanboisim on: March 31, 2006, 03:29:54 PM
well, chicks can experience the "console fanboy-ism" too, i'll tell you right now.  ^_^

the first console i remember playing a lot was the Sega Genesis, and it pretty much endeared me to Sega and SonicTeam for life (to this day, Phantasy Star 4 is one of my favorite games).  i really enjoyed the SegaCD (mostly for Silpheed).  i was a little disappointed in the Saturn, just because i wasn't used to needing a 'memcard' (hell, i wasn't used to being able to save, except in long RPGs), but the games were still gorgeous (NiGHTS and Microcosm being some faves). then the Dreamcast came along and just blew me away.  by that time, i think i probably had an N64 (for Banjo Tooie and Killer Instinct Gold), but i don't think i had a playstation.  i remember comparing the graphics to Playstation and laughing my ass off at my friends for not having Dreamcasts.  we bought the console specifically for Soul Calibur and DOA2, and we weren't disappointed.  of course, then we got Grandia II and Skies of Arcadia, and i was downright hooked (did i mention how much i adored Sonic Adventure 1 & 2? more than any little girl should love any video game that doesn't have Barbie or Hello Kitty in it).  i was thoroughly a Sega fan (and wanted to bomb Nintendo when i heard about the hostile takeover).

along with that, i've always disliked Nintendo, both for their laziness and lack of courage as far as pushing technology to its limits, and for the fact that they were Sega's main rival company.  i was totally neutral about the PS2, however; it had the game support, and i'd heard it was a real work horse, but i wasn't close friends with anyone who gave it a glowing review, so i had to be convinced slowly for myself (bought it anyway, just because we needed a family DVD player).  little did i know, there were amazing games like .hack and FFX on the horizon for the PS2...  i was a bit wary of the Xbox, just because it's Microsoft (ewww, i still feel all germy about it, even though i love the Xbox so much...).  yeah, but then i played Otogi, and i just couldn't hate a system with such pretty graphics.

i would guess that so-called "fanboy-ism" has to do with what you grew up playing, what consoles have the best/most of your favorite kind of game, and whether you value gameply, graphics, or performance most.  *shrug*
88  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [PS2] FFXII Pics (56K warning) on: March 26, 2006, 09:08:52 PM
frown

maybe it's a japanese thing, but i think he's adorable.  i'm getting tired of games where the main character is always either a cute-but-dumb chick, an otherwise-cool chick with a huge rack, or some big macho man.  i think there aren't enough bishounen main characters in games (FFVIII and FFX being obvious exceptions).

but anyway, the pics are absolutely gorgeous!  really looking forward to the game.  =3
89  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Ghost Recon - Co Op Interest on: March 26, 2006, 08:48:55 PM
yeesh, i'm not that bad am i? i'm pretty sure i've only shot teammates 3 or 4 times (excepting the groups that end up with people who like to teamkill).  i just get a little jumpy when somebody comes up beside me out of nowhere.

i don't think i'd be as cool a sniper with a bow, guys...i ain't no legolas.
90  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Ghost Recon - Co Op Interest on: March 20, 2006, 05:06:11 AM
jeez, the things you boys get up to when i'm not in GRAW to keep you in line...

i say KEEP running in front of people and giving them one sec or less warning!  that way i can be sure to hit you with my 50cal or my m60.  ^_^

92  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] Ghost Recon - Co Op Interest on: March 15, 2006, 09:25:47 PM
yeah, come play with us!  the more the merrier, as long as nobody hops on the "wtf, grrlz cn't pla video gamez!" bandwagon. ^_^
93  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Question about 360 start up settings on: March 15, 2006, 07:42:49 PM
if you press the 'open drawer' button instead of the power button, the console will start up, but since the disc is ejected, you'll go to your dashboard.  that's about the only thing i can offer besides clicking the button on the media remote.
94  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / This makes me very happy (We Love Katamari) on: March 15, 2006, 04:10:15 PM
ahhh, i love this game so much... *heart*

i never played the original, but the demo for it got me contemplating it pretty seriously, and after i saw screenshots of the fun, i couldn't resist.

i'll go ahead and admit, point-blank, that i played this game for 18 hours straight when i first got it. ^_^;;;;;

i'm a very mediocre player, sadly...i have trouble getting to 1800m on the fifth As Large As Possible (Make a Planet for you japanese players) mission, and i go to the gamefaqs.com boards and see all these people talking about how easy it is to get 3000m and how hard it is to get 4000m.... *sulk sulk*

but it's just so damn much fun, with the variety of missions...and cleaning up the school (the level that's in the demo) always makes me giggle.  you don't even have to be very good at the game to have fun, that's the best part.
95  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Perfect Dark Zero - Huge Hit or Colossal Failure? on: March 15, 2006, 03:54:11 PM
well, i like PDZ mostly for the fact that it has a multiplayer skirmish mode that actually involves drones -- you don't have to fight *against* your friends, and you don't actually have to do a ridiculously difficult mission.

i also liked the co-op campaign a lot (at least on the first two difficulties...haven't done much on the third difficulty), even though the movie texture mapping was absolutely DREADFUL and Joanna ran like a pansy little princess (despite the fact that she's supposed to be some badass secret agent).  the game graphics were great, especially with the foliage etc. in some of the multiplayer arenas, but the plot sucked a bit, and the characters did some really retarded stuff (like Jack rushing Mai Hem with a handgun when there were much bigger guns nearby).  i don't think i would give pdz a 9 out of 10, but at least a 7.
96  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / DOA4 - training mode help on: March 15, 2006, 03:44:02 PM
hm, no advice here.  some of the moves are just plain hard to get.  my friends and i have only really had trouble with some of Bass's combo throws, some of Tina's combo throws, and Hayate's new throw.

it seems like the special-stance throws can be really hard to get, but i didn't really care about getting Kasumi's voice set, so i didn't bother doing her training more than once (which i only remember very vaguely).

i guess Izuna Drop could be considered a difficult move..but i've been doing it so long now that i don't even notice (and i'm really loving the new version of it, that's similar to the Ninja Gaiden version *heart*).
97  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Jade Empire on: March 15, 2006, 03:38:40 PM
my biggest obstacle when i started out playing Jade Empire was getting used to switching styles a lot.

by the end of it, i was using charged harmonic combos almost exclusively (usually Heavenly Wave / Leaping Tiger), unless i ran out of mana, and then i would switch to my fave combo of Storm Dragon / Spirit Thief to fill up again.  i also built my characters to be heavy on focus, though, so i was able to slow down certain crucial moments in the game. the final boss was only an annoyance to me, and only then because he was resistant to stuns and would break out of my Storm Dragon's effect before i was finished hitting him with Spirit Thief.

after my first playthrough and a half or so, i mastered the game from both sides pretty easily, and then i felt like the game was far too short.  (also, i feel that the final scrolling ship level for Kang's sidequest is disproportionately harder than any of the other scrolling ship levels).
98  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / FF7 Advent Children voice actors, details on: March 15, 2006, 03:30:52 PM
ROFL, it's steve blum!  XD

he's taking over the world, one dub at a time! *can't stop laughing...*  first cowboy bebop, then on to bigger and better things - samurai champloo, naruto, and, most notably, Dynasty Warriors 4 (where he played...uh, just about everybody)....

oh, that is AWESOME.  steve blum as vinnie...aw, jeez...

i'm thinking that i'll be laughing my ass off through the whole dub. (Rachael Leigh Cook?!  egads...)  and i'll definitely stick with my japanese copy.
99  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GR:AW Multiplayer on: March 15, 2006, 03:23:31 PM
lol...

well, Jarrodhk has a humongous paper to write, so i'll probably be 'saving him from the xbox' tonight sometime.  i need to work up my achievements on my live account, so i'll probably be playing single-player graw for a bit at first.
100  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Just Finished Kameo on: March 15, 2006, 03:20:59 PM
hmm, an interesting strat for that boss, Arkon!

not the way i did it (i struggled through, using Major Ruin to ricochet bombs and then deep blue to dive...took me like a million tries, too), but seems to make a lot more sense, lol.
101  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GR:AW Multiplayer on: March 15, 2006, 03:08:53 PM
well, from Jarrodhk's console, anyway, the problem staying in a multiplayer room for extended periods of time seems to be more with the game locking up on us than us getting booted.  i haven't played the single-player to see if it's the game in general, but i'd say it's the game's net code and not people's connections.
102  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / *tap tap* is this thing on? on: March 15, 2006, 02:59:42 PM
hi guys!

yeah, it's not so much that i get uncomfortable around the "zomg a GRL!" crowd...more that i get the sudden urge to turn around and use my M60 to wipe my whole team.  ^_^
