It had a great look and the music was really good.  Other than that the movie was very forgettable.

That part was for those who didnt get the character.

It's really hard to get the character when very important scenes that define the character are not included in the movie.  I thought that the angry Romulan element was weak.  Why didn't they try to save their planet in the past? How many decades were they going to wait for Spock before deciding he's not coming? Did they really have enough supplies to wait on that ship for that freakin' long? Why was their mining ship so completely badass?

After reading the backstory that was not included in the movie I thought the Romulan element was only mildly weak.

I don't think any actor could have turned Nero into a great villain.  There just wasn't enough to work with.

I understand why you don't want to fool with additional media.  I just don't understand why the iPad's lack of additional media is a plus, as leo8877 indicated.
84  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: let's talk tablets on: February 13, 2012, 10:14:31 PM
I don't understand this comment.  You can store the stuff on the Android tablet if you like, but with Apple you don't have the option of using additional media.
85  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [Movie] Act of Valor on: February 06, 2012, 03:49:33 PM
I feel pretty confident that this movie will suck.  I'm guessing it's funded entirely by the government as a recruiting tool.  Not a bad move, but not something I'm likely to see.

No, stupid.  He's saying that you should have to get a license before you can duct tape them.

88  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Nearly 20 years on,what are your thoughts on Alien 3? on: December 23, 2011, 04:27:59 PM
Alien 3 always felt like an unnecessary movie.  Sort of like Godfather 3.  They were both okay movies, but I don't know who thought those were going to be anything more.
89  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Ender's Game on: December 22, 2011, 09:41:58 PM
I was joking.  For me you have to go back two decades to find a really good Harrison Ford movie (I haven't seen Cowboys and Aliens though).  He doesn't even try anymore.
90  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Ender's Game on: December 22, 2011, 09:23:45 PM
Awesome.  Ford is famous for making any movie he's in excellent.

I'm still wondering how they're going to tie this story into somehow saving humanity.

anyone notice the shape of the eggs in that trailer, wonder if them being there for so long in the original film, reshaped them(maybe)..if that was what we saw anyway

In Aliens the eggs the queen was laying looked just like they did in the original film.  Not sure what we were seeing in that preview, other than the mildly annoying, ever-present title.
93  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] The Hangover Part II on: December 13, 2011, 05:58:48 PM
I thought it was a bad attempt at copying everything funny in the first movie.  It was extra raunchy and fell flat to me.  I liked the first one but hated the second one.

That trailer is 2 minutes of earthlings getting their butts kicked. I'm curious how they are going to turn the tide in the end.

It will probably have the same stupid victory condition that if you kill the "queen" the rest will die.  Somehow they'll kill that damn queen.

Why in the world was the prop still spinning?
96  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Amazon Kindle: Kindle Fire, Touch and Keyboard unveiled! on: September 29, 2011, 01:59:34 PM
It doesn't look like it's going to be rootable like a Nook Color since there's no card slot.  You also have to get all of your apps through Amazon, so not sure what will be there.  The video made it look exactly like a Nook Color without expandable card storage.
97  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Amazon Kindle: Kindle Fire, Touch and Keyboard unveiled! on: September 28, 2011, 04:10:25 PM
Yes, I'm thinking that customer upgrades aren't their primary concern.  Their products are great and don't need frequent upgrades, which is fine as they are happy to make money from book sales.  My Kindle 3 is still AMAZING and I have no desire to upgrade.  But if they can keep gaining new customers, which these will surely help them do, then they are going to keep raking in the money.

Say what you will about Neil Diamond, but he actually wrote a lot of songs for others, such as I'm a Believer for the Monkees

I corrected the song.  And I agree about Diamond.  I'm a huge fan of his.
99  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Shame 2012 Nominees announced on: September 27, 2011, 07:19:11 PM
I completely agree.  It's one of the sillier halls of fame.
100  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Shame 2012 Nominees announced on: September 27, 2011, 06:52:42 PM
I know she was part of The Runaways, but I can't even name one of their songs.  Does just being a girl band mean you deserve to be in the Hall of Fame?  Would Jackie Robinson have been nearly as big a deal as he was if he made it to the majors and didn't do well?  I'm not saying all of these people/bands were bad, not at all.  It just seems like it doesn't take much to be considered for the HoF.
101  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Shame 2012 Nominees announced on: September 27, 2011, 06:28:13 PM
I'm not upset about anybody left out as I honestly don't care enough about the museum to know who has been snubbed.  My problem with this type of museum is that it's tries to be cool and have the Rock n Roll name to it but it doesn't limit itself to rock.  And the votes are too subjective.  With other halls of fame there are usually statistics that are used as a measurement, but that's not the case here, or at least it doesn't seem like the case.  Is it album sales?  That can be measured, but then if you use that as a criteria you have to induct Vanilla Ice.  Is it influence?  How in the hell do you measure influence?  I mean Joan Jett?  As far as I can remember she had one hit "I Love Rock n Roll" and one cover that got some airplay "Crimson and Clover."  Is that all it takes to get nominated?  Hell, Fine Young Cannibals hit it bigger than that and who is going to argue that they belong in the hall of fame?
102  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Shame 2012 Nominees announced on: September 27, 2011, 02:51:16 PM
I’ve never understood the criteria for being elected to the HoF.  It doesn’t seem to be about body of work as you have somebody like Ritchie Valens in there.  Sometimes it seems like having a hit or two is all it takes.  I guess that means bands like Nickleback, Hanson and White Tiger are locks.
103  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: UFC 135: Bones vs Rampage on: September 23, 2011, 02:50:12 PM
I've dropped off the UFC radar lately, so I haven't seen Jon Jones.  Rampage is getting old, but he's still got it.  I'd like to see this fight.

I haven't seen Matt Hughes fight since he fought GSP, so that's been awhile.  I'm worried he won't have the magic anymore.  I still think the most exciting fight I've ever seen was the rematch of Matt Hughes and Frank Trigg.  Trigg caught Hughes with a low blow and I thought it was all over.  Watching him turn it around and end it in round one was freaking amazing.  I used to think Koscheck was a typical wrestler who could put anybody on the ground, but didn't know where to go from there.  He really improved his game though and became a good finisher too.  I think this will be a bad night for the hall of famer.

I think it's a bit too early to say it's over.  He's not losing to scrubs.  I'm not saying he's Fedor of 6 years ago, but he's not Chuck Liddell either.

Are Charlie Sheen and Gadhafi the same person?  I've never seen them both in the same place, so it's still possible.

Resurrecting old trilogies is always a good idea.  Just imagine if they had let Star Wars and Indiana Jones end at three.

He should have been penalized for taunting.  I don't remember what he received, but a taunting penalty most certainly was deserved.
