521  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Aliens and Predators, what do they eat? on: June 30, 2008, 01:57:53 PM
Back to the original question, I don't know how the aliens grow.  In the first movie we see the little alien tyke after it blows out of John Hurt's chest.  If I'm not mistaken the next time we see the alien it's fully grown with no way of having been fed.  I guess that's just a story oversight.

Come to think of it, I never saw Captain Kirk take a shit.  What does he do with his waste?

This sounds like it's not 100% related to the Myspace message.  You need to have a long conversation and ask her why this is coming up, because one message is not reason to mistrust your spouse.
524  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Phone is now picked! - iPhone on: June 27, 2008, 08:53:00 PM
I think I've decided on the iPhone too.  Right now I have a Blackjack which is okay, but I have to give it up when I leave this job in a month.  The iPhone seems to do everything I want it to do and the internet capability is too good to pass up.

I don't get the first one.  I mean I get the Ghostbusters reference, but I guess I don't understand it.

Saying something is gay is not at all like saying something is nigger.

I can ask a gay friend "Is this a gay nightclub?", but I don't think I'll ask a black friend "Is this a nigger nightclub?"  That's pretty damn offensive and I hate even typing it, but I do so to prove a point.  Did cheeba mean insult KD?  I don't think so.  Maybe it's a tired joke, but it's not that over the line.  I have gay friends and I doubt they'd be offended if I said what cheeba said.  They'd probably agree.

I recently ordered a Jawbone from the Apple Store (they're sold out around here) and had them next-day air it to my girlfriend.  I called today to cancel my order since she didn't receive it (it's been a week).  Yeah, that's about all I have to offer.  Sorry.
530  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Roll Tide! on: June 25, 2008, 02:08:06 AM
I was never sold on him.  He seemed too easy going for an SEC head coach.  Saban would get in a player's face if he blew a play, but Miles seemed to have a "that's okay" attitude.  I don't like that, but it wasn't enough to damn him in my eyes.  I really gained a lot of respect for him when he signed an extension and ended all of the Michigan speculation.  He never lied to us (yes, that still bothers LSU fans about Saban) even though everyone would have understood if he had left for Michigan.  He gave us a national title and he showed us that he's willing to kick off players that have issues with staying out of trouble, even if they are the starting quarterback.

I don't think he's the best coach out there, but he's pretty good and I don't know that we'd have better luck with anybody else.  There were rumors going around that if Miles took the Michigan job (that was floating around after week 1) we'd entertain hiring 1) Steve Spurrier 2) Tommy Tuberville or 3)Nick Saban.  Man, talk about a weird selection.  LSU fans have hated every one of those guys, but I'll be damned if we didn't sit around talking about which one we'd like.  I went with Tuberville, but that's only if offered a choice of those three.   icon_razz  Thank Jehova we didn't have to make that choice.
531  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Help me like The Who on: June 25, 2008, 01:05:58 AM
For some reason I've never really liked The Who.  I think they're an amazing band that seemed to write music I just don't care for (like Led Zepplin).  However there are probably a ton of lesser known Who songs that would change my opinion.  Any suggestions?

An idiot with the title.   icon_wink

Alabama definitely has their issues, but, and it pains this LSU fan to say this, they will soon be feared.  Saban is going to whip these new recruits into shape.  He's a good coach and combine that with talent and a school like Alabama and you have a dangerous combination.

534  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Vicious thunderstorms here... anyone have a "whole house surge protector?" on: June 23, 2008, 08:07:59 PM
Check with your energy company.  Ours sells something called Strikesafe which acts as a surge protector for your house.  I don't know if there's an initial cost, but it's a monthly fee deal.
535  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Frank Caliendo on: June 23, 2008, 07:05:16 PM
I've seen him do some stuff that was really funny, but, like most impersonators, there's only so much funny you can do when your entire routine relies on impersonation.  Just because an impersonation is dead on doesn't mean it's funny.

I see an old Firefox problem that drives me crazy.  When I hit back to go to a pretty large page the browser brings me to the top of the page and not where I was.

Edit - It also seems to crash a lot.  It's crashed four times so far.

I didn't care so much that the waterfall survival wasn't believable (it wasn't), but why the hell was it in there?  It wasn't funny and it didn't build any suspense.  It was just one more thing that was there for no reason.  That's my problem with the waterfall.
545  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Kung Fu Hustle - Why all the praise on: June 18, 2008, 05:22:12 AM
The scene where the lead asks for someone to fight him and then gives excuses for why he can't fight each person that stands up is freakin' classic.  Kung Fu Hustle rocked.

I once used the office microwave on a bag of microwavable pork rinds.  It cooked like popcorn, only much more heinous.  I have never seen an office so mad as when that bag stunk up the air.  Our CEO came out of his office and thought we were under attack.  Even with that smell, they weren't half bad.

So you didn't chuckle at the snakes reference in that scene?

That wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough to warrant all that crap just to give them a chance to talk.  They could have done that in a tent.  Instead we had to listen to even more John Williams' chase music.

Exactly.  It had nothing to do with the story and was just chase/escape filler.  And bad filler at that.
553  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Indy IV: thoughts, reviews, spoilers galore!! on: June 12, 2008, 09:14:58 PM
It served as another chase/escape scene.  The movie had about five times more of those than it needed.  It's no different than their chase to the quicksand pit.

They did actually- it was shown to be a lead-lined refrigerator.

He means after he got out of the fridge.  I think we're supposed to believe the fridge flew out of the danger zone.

Here's the review I wrote up for my friends:

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - Indiana Jones and his hat are at it again as he and his lovable band try to beat the Russians to the mystery of a crystal skull found in South America.  Of course when I say lovable band I mean completely annoying collection of characters who add nothing to the movie.  By far the worst of the series, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull feels like a bad movie you'd see at a theme park.  Each pointless chase scene seems followed by another pointless chase scene.  The Russians are okay as bad guys (nothing beats Nazis), but the second-tier bad guys (crazed villagers, tomb guardians, swarming giant ants) are as aggravating as anything you'd find in a Stephen Sommers movie.  Do not waste your time with this garbage.  F&%k everybody who had anything to do with this crap.

As you can see, I hated it.  From the stupid swordfight chase scene (swords???) to the monkeys who hate communists, this movie sucked.

My girlfriend and I are seriously considering a trip to Vancouver next month and neither of us have been there.  For those of you who have been to Vancouver, do you have a recommendation as to where we should stay?  Should we stay all six days in Vancouver, or should we spend a day or two somewhere near Vancouver?  Any advice is greatly appreciated.
