441  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Books - Song of Fire & Ice, Davinci Code, Questions... on: February 18, 2009, 08:40:52 PM
That's true.  I read it early and didn't know a thing about The DaVinci Code.  I thought the buildup was good, but was totally unsatisfied with the end.  Knowing the gist of the story from the start would not make me want to read the book.
442  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Books - Song of Fire & Ice, Davinci Code, Questions... on: February 18, 2009, 08:01:57 PM
I found it an easy and enjoyable read with absolutely no payoff.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of 16yo car with 162k miles on it is worth $3,200?
444  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Woman w/8 babies..already had 6.... on: February 18, 2009, 04:18:34 PM
You're right, Blackader.  I do think she's mentally ill.  My point was that she didn't accidentally find herself with 14 kids and no means of support.  After seeing that interview if her doctor would have told her "this procedure will guarantee you eight more children" I have little doubt she still would have agreed to it.

Her fertility doctor needs to lose his license.
445  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Woman w/8 babies..already had 6.... on: February 18, 2009, 04:01:43 PM
She had six kids and willingly got pregnant again.  Let's just say she only thought she'd have seven kids.  When you're a single mom of seven young children are you in a situation that can be changed by a degree?  She is completely reliant on other people and she was just as reliant before she had the last eight kids.  She has no husband, doesn't want a husband, and still decided to have a huge family.  She went into this without a care in the world about how these kids would be supported.  That is definitely someone who should be vilified.  I hope the best for those kids too, but don't for one second think that she's not 100% at fault for this.
446  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Woman w/8 babies..already had 6.... on: February 18, 2009, 03:10:44 PM
Did you watch the same interview I did?  The woman has an insane desire to surround herself with lots and lots of babies.  It's also not cool to decide to have a huge family with no way to support that family.

I don't see how you can call her "normal."  She's pretty far from normal.
447  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: So If I'm Going to Philly, Where Do I Go to get a REAL Philly Cheesesteak? on: February 11, 2009, 02:18:55 PM
There used to be a great show called "Taste" with David Rosengardner (sp?) where he spent the show on one type of food.  One episode was on the cheesesteak sandwich and several of the places in Philly (maybe Pat's) said you have to use Cheese Wiz.  He was skeptical too, but after he made one with Wiz he agreed it was the best.  After that I went on a cheesesteak tear and made quite a few.  The Cheese Wiz was good, but it wasn't my favorite.  I think I preferred a pepper jack, but that was years ago and I can't remember.

Sounds like $700 well spent.  I'm glad you were able to find something that feels so right.  Now I want a new stick!
449  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 Starts Tonight! (SPOILERS!!!) on: February 09, 2009, 05:57:00 PM
Because the last cylon story angle has never been appealing.  I like space battles and I like seeing what happens to humanity when the chips are down.  I don't like the stories dealing with visions or twists.
450  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 Starts Tonight! (SPOILERS!!!) on: February 09, 2009, 04:59:00 PM
That's what I think.  The problem is that there might not be replacements for all the people that have to go.  I'd much rather see a show dealing with nothing more than that, but it looks like we're going to get Tigh's wife instead.   mad
451  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 Starts Tonight! (SPOILERS!!!) on: February 09, 2009, 04:49:31 PM
Gaeta wasn't down with the killing, but eventually saw it as necessary.  He still hated killing, which was the difference between him and Zarich.  I don't agree with anything he did, but he's a tragic figure as you can see why he did it and sort of sympathize with him.  Still, he had to go.  No doubt about it.  The question is, who else has to go?  What about that Lieutenant who refused to server under Adama?  Brig?

I'm not a serious player, but I do have a McDermott pool cue that has been used, even for breaking, for over twenty years now.  Do sticks seem to crack from breaking?  I've never seen a good one do it, so I was wondering if it's common for people to swap sticks for breaking.  Plus, didn't Cruise break with his Balabushka in The Color of Money?   icon_biggrin
454  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Do we have any pool players here at GamingTrend? on: February 06, 2009, 10:41:39 PM
You aren't going to break with the Balabushka?

Spoiler for Hiden:
There's a difference?  Even if there is, it doesn't change the fact that the bomb would be seen as a Soviet attack.

But why kill The Comedian?

457  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: New Watchmen Trailer on: February 06, 2009, 07:41:21 PM
Spoiler for Hiden:
The creature creates global unity.  The hydrogen bomb destroys any chance for global unity.  This isn't just a change to the ending, it works against the point of the whole story.  I'm holding out hope that they thought this through and there's more to it than I thought.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Replacing the octopus does indeed change the point of the ending.  Plus, without the island, why does Veidt kill The Comedian?  Didn't he kill him in the book because he came across the island?

Recent reports claiming that actor Patrick Swayze has stopped medical treatment for his cancer are completely false, his rep told FOXNews.com Thursday.

His two best lines are both from Road House:

"Right boot."

"Yo!  Wake the f$&k up!"

That's a shame.  He gave it a good fight though.
463  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: fedor emelianenko vs andre arlovski on: January 27, 2009, 09:11:38 PM
Arlovski left himself open for that punch, so I would not call it lucky.  Arlovski is an "almost great" fighter, but Fedor is still the man.

Cafe du Monde is good, but I wouldn't go their twice.  Too many other places to eat.

Definitely see Audobon Zoo.

Plan to spend many hours at the WWII Museum.

Getting drunk by yourself is a bad sign.  It also makes me think that over the years the frequency of such occasions will increase.

Having never read the graphic novel (although I do realize that it is pretty much universally praised), that trailer makes the movie look like another dumb comic book movie.  Silly costumes, another stupid over-gravelly voice spouting bravado, posing for the camera...it doesn't make me want to watch it.

There is a reason they're wearing silly costumes and speaking with an over-gravelly voice.  Trust me, that stuff isn't as shallow as it seems at first, but I'm not going to spoil any of it.

Lesnar's winning in the first minute or he's not winning at all.

I will not be fooled into thinking that I can let the special effects make up for the crap that is a Roland Emmerich movie.  This nonsense of letting go and leaving your brain at the door is the reason Hollywood keeps turning out crap.  Yes, I'm better than you!!! icon_evil

When he fought Mir he had control but got stood up for punching Mir in the back of the head.  Lesnar was too inexperienced to prevent Mir from utilizing his Jiu Jitzu.

Which was a bullshit call. All his blows were legal. He was pounding Mir into dust until that happened.

Agreed.  It was an incidental blow that only hit the back of Mir's head because Mir spun around during the barrage.

Rashad dances a bit much for my tastes, but he seems like a good guy.  He hasn't lost either, so he's got that going for him.
476  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Couture vs Lesner on: November 14, 2008, 07:37:03 PM
As excited as I am to see the Couture/Lesnar fight, I think the UFC loses some of its credibility when it allows a 2-1 fighter to fight for the heavyweight championship.  That's just silly.  Do titles really mean anything to the UFC???  The guy hasn't proven himself one bit.  He beat Heath Herring, but Herring, even though he's a somewhat big name, is not a well-rounded fighter.  Lesnar is a very good wrestler, and I'm not talking about fake wrestling, but it takes more than that to consistently win in the UFC.  When he fought Mir he had control but got stood up for punching Mir in the back of the head.  Lesnar was too inexperienced to prevent Mir from utilizing his Jiu Jitzu.

I think Randy might keep this one off the ground.  Lesnar's size might negate Couture's wrestling experience, but Randy has proven that he can stand up with some of the best.  Remember Couture/Liddell 1?

Rashad is a very gifted fighter and I think he'll beat Griffin.  Rashad's early knock was that he couldn't finish a fight to save his life, but he's really worked on that and should have a belt soon.

You're a better man than I if you can finish the series.  The first one is a classic, the second one is okay, but then they get terrible.

Usually hits like that to the eye don't drop somebody. Limbo seemed to go limp as though he got him on the chin. Very surprising that it dropped him. But when you try to put the ref in guard then it was definitely a good stoppage.
