44  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: THQ wipes 2014 slate, getting ready for sale on: January 16, 2012, 11:44:55 AM
That statement is not very good to be honest. There's no denying the way things have been going for THQ and with the multiple reports of them pretty much only existing to be sold, i still fear for them closing. Hopefully if it happens some good publishers and devs will pick up the IP's if they do go under.
45  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Hitman 5: Absolution on: January 12, 2012, 11:08:44 AM
It still looks way too linear for me. They mention that some of the missions are still sandbox kind of missions, but really that's exactly what made hitman so fantastic, I don't want some linear story with actiony set pieces like this seems to be. Hopefully I am wrong but at the moment it doesn't excite me too much.
46  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: STALKER 2 on: January 12, 2012, 11:04:42 AM
Well it's more like they are working really cheaply to try and convince some investor that put a bit of money into it, hopefully they will, always loved the premise of STALKER although I never really got very into any of the sequels. The first one I did enjoy a lot but it was not quite the revolution I had let myself be hyped for.
47  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3]South Park RPG on: December 03, 2011, 07:05:13 PM
Copy pasted from a neogaf thread. Also PC version too.

-The first game Parker and Stone have directly participated in, writing the script and the dialogue.

-Parker has always preferred silent protagonists in RPG's, so the player’s character will be silent.

-The player’s character will be fully customizable.

-Your character has a smartphone that acts as the primary game menu and has a facebook-like app show your number of friends you have and your current standing with the various kid factions.

-There are five classes, which are wizard, paladin, adventurer, rogue, and a fifth unannounced class.

-Obsidian is using the Dungeon Siege III engine.

-Obsidian developed a dynamic lip-syncing tool to accommodate changes to the script.

-Parker and Stone gave Obsidian 15 years of assets used during the show and a detailed list of approved textures and colors.

-Critical hits, cash rewards, experience, and consumables are in the game.

-Parker hates unskippable cutscenes.

-The humor will be more focus on the games they have played in the past but Parker mentions that games have lampooned other games before so they don't want to do exactly that instead they are focusing more on RPG's on how big and bombastic they can get sometimes.

Spoiler for Hiden:
The player will play as the new kid in town, the main theme of the game is fitting in and being accepted.

Spoiler for Hiden:
The story begins with your character participating in a live action role-playing game that the neighborhood kids started, which eventually evolves into a real adventure.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Eric Cartman will greet your character and help you decide your class, which are wizard, paladin, adventurer, rogue, and a fifth unconventional class made up by Cartman.

-Many elements of the combat system are like Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi games.

-If player initiates combat they will attack first and vice versa.

-X button is for melee attacks, pressing it in well-timed succession will result in multiple hits.

-Timed inputs occur for defense as well for reduced damage.

-Obsidian doesn't want the player to have to sit and watch animations play out; they're incorporating dynamic camera angels at certain times, such as a
Spoiler for Hiden:
Ro Sham Bo attack that stuns an enemy

-Enemy encounters are visible on the map.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Soda are health potions and Tweak's coffee is a haste item.

-There are melee and ranged weapons, as well as
Spoiler for Hiden:
a lightning powered Okama Gameshpere that is a magic item

Spoiler for Hiden:
There is a Final Fantasy Materia like system in the game to augment weapons with various abilities like fire, poison, and electricity.

Spoiler for Hiden:
There is a Summon System but they are not able to talk about it.

-There are collectibles to look for in the environments, some appear throughout the game while other are in specific areas.

Spoiler for Hiden:
An example of a collectible is a Chinpokomon doll and a magazine, Chinpokomon dolls are not all the same model Obsidian are using various models that appeared in the episode.

-When Obsidian were first coming up with ideas they show Parker and Stone a quest where you go into a cave and fight a giant bat boss that Ike is riding on, Parker and Stone said that the quest wasn't Southpark, that it was a generic video-game. Parker and Stone then mention a quest to get Kung Pao Chicken from City Wok, to readjust Obsidian focus.

-When they start making the town hub Parker and Stone realized that they did not have a true layout for the town, so they had fun figuring out where everything went.

-There will not be any platforming, they tried jumping early on but it didn't seem right.

-They talk about how they have had to scrap level because the perspective wasn't right because everything is hand illustrated and hand animated.

-They talk about the challenges of making a comedy driven game, Portal 2 is mention, they say if Portal 2 dialogue was on top of a shitty game it wouldn't be as good, so they want to make a game that is as good as the dialogue.

Concept Art (Massive Spoilers!!!!)

Spoiler for Hiden:
The first concept art is a 'Gnome Mine' a concept, my guess underpants gnomes.

Spoiler for Hiden:
The second concept art is 'UFO Crash Site', it shows Kenny, Cartman, Stan, and Kyle in front of a military fence with a UFO further away in a forest surround in mountains.

Spoiler for Hiden:
The third concept art is a 'Gnome/Crab People D.M.Z.' label as a rough concept, it show a border fence with gnomes on one side and Crab People on the other side.

Spoiler for Hiden:
The last concept art is 'Christmas Town' a concept.

Interview with Trey Parker and Matt Stone

-Parker and Stone really enjoy rpgs and they do think that rpgs are the best fit for southpark.

-They were asked of how making a rpg story differs for an episode, they say that the learning curve was be bigger than anything they have done other then their Broadway musical.

-Visual and Visual style seen in episodes like “Good Times With Weapons”, or the live action hamsters in “Pandemic” will not be in the game they want to keep a simple 2D style.

-Parker has been a lifelong gamers, he really likes rpgs because he like the singleplayer nature of them so he doesn’t like or get MMO’s. His favorite game is Oblivion.

-Matt when he was young used to play the old Infocom game and Wizardry and likes open world games like Arkham City, Infamous, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and also hockey and soccer games. He mention that he is more of a button masher and remember Serious Sam because he likes to shoot shit and blow shit up but he is now more interested in games like Arkham City and he hasn’t play a RPG in year because he got tired of walking everywhere. His favorite game is FIFA and he mentions getting his ass kick online by kids with English Accents.

-Lastly they joke how this Southpark game will be a cross between Obilivion and FIFA were “you gotta go kill a bunch of monsters and shit but you can only use your feet.”

FIFA 12 for me.

There is a new online mode called "Online Seasons", which inmho is the most revolutionary new mode in any sports game.  That, and Teamplay with competent players is as amazing as ever.

Fifa would have been on mine if it wasn't for the big brain farts EA had. Like letting the AI defend for the opponents online and not giving you a chance to change kit colours to avoid the exact same shirt online. Just terrible that they didn't catch that in QA

So tomorrow I will be spending the evening with:

Red Fang
Dillinger Escape Plan

Plugs are packed, and I'm stoked.

I never really heard of red fang but Dillinger is my all time favorite band and Mastodon are up there too with some of the best newer bands, would be so perfect if they could tour in Europe too together. Although I also enjoy the smaller shows that are sometimes basement sized with dillinger over here.

Saw dillinger in Manchester halloween last year, flew over there from Denmark and it was so crazy and awesome. We ended up getting really drunk later and ended up at some bar that played metal all night, there was people crowdsurfing in the damn bar at times.  icon_lol

I was dressed up as greenman for the show itself and the whole band was wearing black metal makeup and shit, was hilarious as you know how little it actually fits them

and me way too drunk with Billy later, getting up 7:00 the next day to fly back to Denmark was such a pain.

For me it's going to be a hard choice between :

Battlefield 3
Witcher 2
Saints row 3
Uncharted 3
Deus EX HR

A game I have yet to play a lot of is Anno 2070 which I think might end up on it too.
54  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Biggest surprise hit/disapointment of the year 2011 on: November 25, 2011, 08:31:49 AM
Witcher 2 and deus ex HR  was the biggest surprise for me. Didn't think much of the first witcher but loved the second and was sure they were going to mess up Deus Ex badly. Brink and Rage for dissapointments.

Edit : Oh and Saints Row 3 surprised me a lot too. The second was a really terrible port on pc but it both plays well and is great on pc. Best fun in a sandbox game I have had n a while.

They have expanded quite a bit now. Saw them in the news yesterday and they also showed a bit of their new game although it was still clearly in a very early stage. It looked kind of like mirrors edge in the same 2d locked camera, only more puzzly but with actual 3d figures and stuff and not just black and white silhouettes this time around. They also talked about that they were very close to the one million sales but hadn't quite reached it yet, they had a over 300% profit though from the budget to what they have earned so far and they bought a lot of the old investors out.

Well it is a beta, which means it's supposed to be a test for bugs, so isn't it kinda pointless to use an older version with bugs that may have been fixed while a newer version may reveal new bugs?

Server stress test is still very useful and so is general feedback on weapons that needs balancing out and issues with certain hardware I assume. They also already learnt how not to do server security in the pc version, some people got the server files and ran conquest and squad rush on their own private servers with infinite rockets and crazy stuff like that.  icon_biggrin

Release day will be ugly, I expect origin to refuse to work and when it works download with 20 kb/s, like half life 2 release when steam was new. But yeah give it a few days for impressions, that's never a bad thing, but you can't really blame them for showing off a buggy and old beta.

FWIW I cancelled my preorder as well.  Still a very likely purchase, but I at least need to see some release day impressions given the state of the beta.  Supposedly the beta is using an old beta and most of these problems are fixed, but, well, how about letting us see the latest build, guys?

It takes time to build a beta and just getting it through microsoft certification is like 2 to 3 weeks. So yes in the ideal world we would get a beta that is completely up to date, but that is simple not possible. What they however could have done was release the fantastic caspian border map instead, so much more fun.

but the open beta will only have that one Metro Map,while the full game will have 9 maps...9 massive maps icon_biggrin

Not to mention a mode that is a lot more fun than rush.

There is no version that doesnt' come with the DLC unless you buy it used.  This is the standard EA 'please don't buy our games used'
DLC code that comes with it.  There is a 'Limited Edition' which isn't really limited, and the 'Collector's Edition' which costs more.

There was the same with bad company 2 here, you can get a none limited edition, the limited edition is hardly any more expensive but it's there from day one. I know it might not be the case in the US but they do release them like that here.
76  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Battlefield 3 on: September 06, 2011, 09:20:33 PM
The two danish stores i order from online both got a normal edition and a special edition (which is a bit more expensive). Maybe it's the same price on origin, not sure about that. But yeah I am sure it will be easy enough to find them, just hate the thought of day one dlc. What is especially about it is that it's a seperate mode kind of like BC2 : Vietnam, not just some maps that can be thrown into a regular map roation.
77  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Battlefield 3 on: September 06, 2011, 11:25:59 AM
The "Back to Karkand" pack with a few maps from Battlefield 2, remade. It's free in the collectors edition which isn't a lot more expensive but it's just a bad signal of things to come, I mean we got new maps for battlefield 2 about 5 years later, completely free. This time they even limit us with not being able to make our own, so yeah disappointing but I guess that is just how the industry works today.

Still extremely excited about it though, bought a new pc for it.  icon_biggrin

Sad to see day one DLC, the commander role gone and no mod tools. The beta was pretty good though and I never even liked rush, can't wait for a proper sequel to BF2, BC2 isn't bad, but it's just no the same. I hope the singleplayer will be good but I will probably be busy with the multiplayer for the first many months.

Oh yeah and origin sucks.  Tongue
