Back when I lived in the old house with a massive barn spider infestation I used to shoot them with a BB gun on our back porch. These were huge suckers, about the size of a half dollar. I bring this up because barn spiders are A LOT smaller than a rat and half the time the spiders would still wobble away after being hit despite having lost half their body.
I can’t say for certain but I doubt shooting rats with a BB gun is going to be terribly effective.

While I'm ranting about BRs, I'm getting mighty tired of Disney discs having mountains of previews before the menu coming up, and then having Java-based menus that are painfully slow to navigate, then another bunch of things before the movie. After you hit play on Nightmare Before Christmas, you first have to watch a 30-45 second animated logo for Disney Blu-ray, then a 30-45 second animated logo for Disney. Come on.
BBC films and TV shows are horrendous in this regard. My TV series "The Office" (UK) has something like 5-7 minutes of forced previews that you can't skip. This kind of shit amazes me. Mercifully, the BD version of Planet Earth doesn't have this annoyance, but most regular BBC DVD's do. Of course, nothing beats the U.S. studio's forced viewing of that incredibly obnoxious "YOU'RE A GODDAMN PIRATE!" video with the wailing police sirens and sickening death metal soundtrack. Are you sure content can’t be skipped? I use my PS3 and before that I used my Xbox to play movies and I’ve never run into that problem. Some studios require you to hit the next button, others the menu button but there has only been a handful that I had to actually fast-forward through. Even then, put it on 100x and they go away fast.

I’ve seen 23 and wouldn’t watch half of them again on a bet. I guess that’s why I don’t entirely understand these lists. Can a movie be considered great if you would never want to see it twice? And at which point do you consider a movie great as opposed to believing it is because everyone told you so?
*not trying to insult your taste if you actually liked all these movie*

Am I the only one who hates seeing companies try to make 3D games on the DS? I mean I get that it can do it but they almost always look like crap with controls that are more difficult than they should be. 2D games on the other hand look and play great on the DS so I don’t really see the appeal of going 3D.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Things to do in NYC?

Well, tomorrow I’m being flown to NYC on business for a little over a week. My family could never afford to travel growing up and I’ve only been out of Vermont a few times in my life so this is a rather big deal. I’ve also never been on a plane.
What I know is that I will be staying (free) in a vacant apartment on the Greenwich Village Waterfront, which I’ve been told my current condo could fit inside of quite comfortably. I know very little about NYC on the whole.
So…
What do I need to see while I’m there?

Maybe a Hive Tyrant? That would make it the race commander right? Which would be a HUGE commander unit. EDIT Actually I did find this model picture of a Carnifex, so you might be right there. Which would be more of tank unit.

I've fallen asleep to Nightmare Before Christmas twice, the first time in the theater, the second at a New Year's Eve party.
I thought I was the only one who didn’t like this movie! I saw it the first time in theaters and thought it was dreadful. After years of hearing its praise I thought I would give it another chance and about a year ago I did. Fell asleep about 20 minutes into it and woke up in time to watch a singing dancing EVIL sock puppet. I just don’t get the love for this one.

Does it bother you that through the wonders of Google Analytics I can track your location, time spent on a website, Operating system, browser, and screen resolution? I have to check the stats for about 10 different sites for my company daily and it always amuses me.

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Help me with Newsletter mailings

I need help. I’ve been assigned the task of finding a way to email our company Newsletter out to all of our clients who have signed up for it. My title is as a graphic designer but I seem to get stuck with these “fun” tasks a lot because…well I don’t know… I guess I’m just special. I make the newsletters themselves in HTML and can send them out individually just fine but this doesn’t work well for 80 clients.
I’ve already tried all the automated services I could find like Constant Contacts and Mail Chimp but they all get picked up by our spam filter. I’ve been told this is actually fairly simple but I don’t know where to begin and I have almost no programming experience outside of web design.
Anyone ever have to do this?

It’s actually possible to find a standalone version, that’s what I did. That said I’m not sure it’s really worth it. Besides, it didn’t give me an auto uninstall shortcut and that aggravates me.

Blah. I knew almost nothing about this title and I’m still disappointed. Between getting stuck on the environment in multiple places and a complete lack of charm I don’t see much redeemable in this one.

I tried Civilization 4 but hated it.. even though it's made by the same people (mostly) they took out most of the Automated AI stuff they had in with Alpha Centauri. You can't "Automate" your units anymore, other than explore automatically.
That was exactly my criticism of Civ4. Alpha Centauri was filled with characters that seemed completely different from each other and often quite real. All the AI characters in Civ4 felt like carbon copies of each other and despite being much newer the diplomacy model in general felt far inferior. Sadly I haven’t found a game that matches it depth or character.

My computer heats my apartment quite well. I work from home so my computer runs most of the day. Last winter I barely had to turn the heat on. It gets a little chilly at night when I power it down but I grew up in a house where water would regularly freeze on a night stand by your bed every night in the winter. Compared to that its quite cozy.

I was pretty satisfied with Vista until two days ago when a little window popped up telling me that SP1 was ready to be installed. Since then my video has been washed out, my audio produces weird popping noises and trying to take my computer out of sleep mode crashes it. Ugh...
