I was really interested in this game until I heard it uses the old Wii controller. I detested that thing. And from what I've read the regular game pad controls are unintuitive, and I've long since passed the point in my life where I'm willing to spend time fighting a control scheme.

but I'm happy to hear that some people are really enjoying the game.

Honestly, the Wii Remote is damn near perfect for this game. It doesn't use the "waggle," but rather the pointer, and the ability to aim while moving is a godsend.

This x1000.  I hate touch and motion controls with a passion but the Wii Remote works perfectly for controlling this game.

I also wish the days were a bit longer.  It seems I'm just getting my feet wet and figuring out what I need to do and the sun is already setting so I have to run all the way back to the ship to not lose my pack.

I donít believe this is true, as long as your Pikmin are selected and near a commander they should make it back to the ship automatically.

765  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (08/05) on: August 05, 2013, 02:53:06 PM
Could be an expensive week.  Not sure if I will actually buy all of these but itís pretty likely!

PC
Divinity Dragon Commander - Unless the reviews are terrible, which I doubt based on what I've seen already.
Guacamelee! - Maybe
Spelunky - Maybe
Papers, Please - Definitely picking up

WiiU
Pikmin 3 Ė Already picked this up yesterday and I am enjoying it greatly.
766  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Pikmin 3 (WiiU) on: August 04, 2013, 06:16:48 PM
The WiiU finally has a game!  My copy finished downloading about two hours ago and Iíve been having a blast.  Pikmin 3 is completely charming and well worth your money.

Gameplay isnít much changed from the past games but it is highly refined.  The biggest change is that you can now throw party members to locations you canít reach on foot and you can also assign waypoints for them to follow, allowing you to cover more ground at a time.  Small changes to the control interface go a long way towards making controlling your Pikmin more fluid and responsive.  Iím using the Wiimote + Nunchuck control scheme and it feels very much like controlling an RTS with a mouse and keyboard.  You can play with just the gamepad, and they even have extra options on the touch pad to make that easier, but I prefer the speed and accuracy of the pointer.

Graphically, this is the best looking game Nintendo has ever put out.  The environments are beautifully rendered and at times it feels more like youíre looking out a window at your garden than playing a game.  The exception to this is the Pikmin and protagonists themselves, who are very cartoony, but all in all it makes finding them easy and is very pleasing to look at.

If you are not a fan of the Pikmin formula this probably wonít change your mind but if you have even a passing interest and have a WiiU there is really no reason not to pick this up.

Yep, Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2 and Red Alert 3.
768  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Have you beaten a Metal Gear game? on: August 02, 2013, 09:26:34 PM
Yes, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.  I've never had an interest in playing any of the other games.
769  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mechwarrior Online - Founders are in! on: August 01, 2013, 09:00:20 PM
Right now combat is mostly where it should be but I still grow tired of it after a few rounds.  The problem is that itís pretty much straight up team death match in mechs.    If that sounds good to you then you will probably have a blast.  Me, Iím waiting and hoping for some more interesting modes.
770  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wii U on: August 01, 2013, 06:44:56 PM
During development they talked about multiple control schemes.  Gamepad alone, Wiimote alone or some combination of the two.  The GT review mentioned two of these as well.

I played through Pikmin Motion Plus on Wii and have to say that using the Wii remote was perfect for this type of game.  Itís a puzzle RTS, therefore the Wii remote mimics a mouse.
And yes, that is probably the only time you will ever hear someone describe motion controls as perfect.

Well, a year late isn't too bad, right?  Guys?  Hello?  Awww, I'm all alone again aren't I?

(Pikmin 3 was the main reason I bought my WiiU on release...)
772  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wii U on: July 31, 2013, 03:22:31 PM
Whatís really puzzling about that decision is they are also not carrying the 3DS anymore.  The WiiU makes sense but the 3DS is selling like crazy right now.
773  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Did you beat....Final Fantasy VII? on: July 30, 2013, 01:18:59 AM
Nope.  This may have been the first game I owned that I never finished.  I had only every played CRPGs up to that point but after all the hype the game received I decided to try it when it was released for PC.

Most things I enjoy and attribute to ďroleplaying gamesĒ donít exist in JRPGs and I was very disappointed.  I didnít get very far.  To this day I have only finished a handful of JRPGs.

777  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wii U on: July 26, 2013, 03:53:18 PM
The console is fine, the lack of games sucks.

ZombiU is the game that best shows off what makes the system unique.
New Super Mario Bros. U is a great 2D Mario game.
Nintendo Land is great if you can get 3-4 friends together.
Getting the Rayman Legends Challenge App for free gave me probably 20 hours of enjoyment by itself.

With Pikmin 3 coming out in a couple weeks and Wonderful 101 plus the new Mario coming later this year, things are looking up.  Itís just a shame it took them almost a full year to release the first set of games.
778  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Did you beat....Fallout? on: July 26, 2013, 03:37:42 PM

I think once Mario went 3D is when I started not liking them.  Couldn't stand Galaxy, never tried Galaxy 2 and the 64 remake for the DS didn't get far with me, yet I played through Super Paper Mario on the Wii just fine.

not sure how I'm going to feel about Super Mario 3D World...
Have you tried New Super Mario Bros. U ?  Itís 2D and more or less feels like Super Mario World 2.
780  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Did you beat.... Super Mario Bros? on: July 25, 2013, 08:52:25 PM
Yep, a game has to be really bad or incredibly frustrating for me not to finish it once I start.

I haven't had a chance to play yet, but if you had to redo conversations wouldn't it be faster the second go because you already have read the dialog?

In theory yes, but since there are skill based dialogue options that can affect gameplay you canít just ignore everything because you may get an outcome you donít like.  Also, certain actions only open up if you pursue the right dialogue tree.
782  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] Shadowrun Returns (official review on Page 3) on: July 25, 2013, 07:29:22 PM
Those are more copouts than anything.

1.   Games are meant to be fun. Donít dictate to your consumers what they should consider to be fun.

2.    Simple fix, donít allow the game to save during combat.  While not saving in combat can be annoying, the gaps are long enough to be annoying even for basic play without the threat of death. From what Iíve seen so far, outside of combat people mostly stand in one place so there is no danger of what they mention outside of combat.
783  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] Shadowrun Returns (official review on Page 3) on: July 25, 2013, 07:03:13 PM
I have to disagree about the saving.  I just put about two hours into the game and the save system is atrocious.  Given how much time is spent investigating or talking to people, if you have to shut your game off unexpectedly plan to spend a long time replaying content.

An example of this come from pretty early on in what I assume will be a main base/hub for the game.  The time between entering the Seamstress Union and leaving was almost 30 minutes.  There are about 5 different people within the building that you have to talk to including shop keepers and even a little bit of investigation.  If I had had to stop mid play though and go through all of that again I would have been pretty pissed off.

That said everything else about the game is exactly what I wanted and is quite wonderful, itís just a shame they blundered on such a basic level.
784  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Free Facebook cash...and no entries? - Feedback on giveaways on: July 24, 2013, 09:19:43 PM
I already own all the games offered except SSDD, which doesn't interest me at all.  Facebook cash would also be wasted on me.  Now a nice gift certificate to Amazon....

If you're going to run similar promotions I would suggest focusing on the newer indie titles to come out.  With the exception of Van Helsing, all of those games could have been picked up for for a couple dollars in the Steam sale and anyone who was interested probably already did.

I kinda wish that games would put in more ways to be a bad ass and defeat enemies, whilst not actually killing or maiming them.

While not to the degree you're looking for, the Knife of Dunwall DLC expansion does offer a couple more nonlethal options.

Pretty sure that 90% of the complaints come from the (still) broken co-op and the fact that they released paid DLC before fixing said co-op.

However, the club nintendo $30 credit thing you'll have to make an account in club.nintendo.com then put your game PINs in there.

If you buy a lot of games on Nintendo systems, Club Nintendo is actually pretty cool so I would highly recommend it anyways.  Every game/system you register is worth points, get enough and you can trade them in for free games on the eShops.  Iíve gotten 3-4 games from the program in the last year; mostly SNES era titles.
