1441  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Having to get up in the morning sucks on: May 14, 2008, 01:20:51 AM
But it’s worth it!  A week after college graduation and I’ve got a job!  A really nice one too, starting pay is almost double what anyone else in my family makes; my family is definitely on the lower income spectrum but I’m still in shock.

I’m still kind of waiting for something terrible to happen; my luck usually isn’t this good but until it does I’m pretty happy. I might not even have to live in a cardboard box!  Woohoo!   icon_smile

Amazing!  Most likely a web developer getting even.  I’ve wanted to do the same on a couple jobs but never quite dared.  I did hide a dancing chicken in on website once but you have to look pretty hard to find it.  icon_twisted

The closest arcade to me as a kid was a 20 minute drive away so I never got to play in the arcades much.  I do remember being taken out on one birthday where we played some X-men game from start to finish.  That was a fun day; I think the game was Children of the Atom or something like that.  Probably not on anyone else’s list but that would be my top!

someone sneaked a pic of one of the upcoming toys for the movie.

Spoiler for Hiden:

There’s actually a concept picture of two face circulating around, apparently it’s been taken down which gives some credibility to it being real but I actually hope it’s not; too jarring for my taste.

Warning, it’s pretty gruesome.
1446  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Graduation! on: May 04, 2008, 04:31:08 AM
It was a long day, mostly sad to think I won’t see many of these people after today and the ones I do will never be seen as a group again.  I had a rather small select group of friends so thinking about losing them is not a pleasant thought.

I was part of the Multimedia and Graphic Design program at Champlain College in Burlington Vermont.

Yep, the real world sucks.  You'll look back at your college years and remember them as some of the best of your life.

Maybe maybe not.  I’ve been working three jobs to pay for college since freshman year; my family couldn’t afford to help me at all so I have footed the bill from day one(I’m the first in my family to go to college, most family members didn’t graduate high school).  Hasn’t left much time for fun so the thought of having only one job and no schoolwork sounds great.

But thanks for all the congratulations!

1447  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Graduation! on: May 03, 2008, 12:11:40 PM
In two hours I will officially be graduated from college!  Even better I’m graduating with honors!  Four years have gone by far too fast but on the bright side I had a very promising interview  Wednesday so hopefully I will even have a job lined up in the very near future.

22 days . Never found the bow. The chainsaw worked best for me till the end when my barracade fell and the thing would'nt start.

I found the bow twice in the 2nd location; the town in the middle of nowhere, not the city.

The bow might actually throw some people off because there is a slight pause between each shot but the fact that you are never get screwed over while your guy is reloading a whole clip more than makes up for it.  I actually find that pause helps me because it encourages me to aim for the face and get a lot more one shot kills, whereas I almost never find myself aiming with automatics.
1451  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Fun Time Waster on: April 29, 2008, 12:25:59 AM
I actually think the bow is the best weapon, head shots are usually one shot kills and there is zero reload time.

After playing with the automatic weapons for a while I switched back to the bow.  Definitely my favorite weapon, took me all the way to victory.

“Yay I’m a bad ass assassin who can drop three stories into a hay bale and live!  yay I will just drop off this two foot dock and hide in the water!  nooooooo I can’t swim!!!" *dead*

A few odd design decisions aside I’m actually enjoying it quite a lot.  I do have to say that I hate the control scheme though.  Half the time I’m trying to walk peacefully through a city and I end up punching random people.  I guess I just can’t help myself.

Is the cost of living really that much worse in NY?  Looking on my own finances and living in Vermont I figured I could live comfortably on $35grand and still pay off the ridiculous number of loans I have that paid for my college.

Heh I have pretty much gotten wrecked on a few phone interviews this month.  Apparently, studying isnt going to help when they interview you for a different position smile

Nope, not bitter about it, o noes.  I figure I need to do this as much to get every bit of my memory and codeskills back.  I just hate not being top notch and I dont feel it at the moment whihc probbaly shows on my interviews.

Kind of off topic but I’ve been expanding my search radius a bit and was amazed by one job posting I saw today.  Around my area you are LUCKY if you can find a job that pays $40grand a year and you will be doing everything; I saw one in NY making PowerPoint presentations and the pay scale was $75-$90grand a year.  I giggled uncontrollably for a good five minutes then forwarded my resume.

I don’t have the 5 years experience they want but for that kind of money I will take a chance and apply anyways.  icon_biggrin

I’m actually in the process of applying to places right now.  I pretty much have definite from a smallish web design firm but I don’t really want to work with them and the salary isn’t great, if you could give me a lead on where to look I would love to check it out.

I’m a soon to be Graphic Design graduate with modest game design experience if you need another artist.  Lately I do a lot of web work so if you need a website and have a place to host it I would be willing to help there as well.  Besides, it would look good in my portfolio.  icon_smile

Well we didn’t have much money and only got to eat out maybe once every couple months but when we did it really came down to ‘why have hamburger when you can have chicken?’
1462  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: I Had My First Whopper this past week on: April 14, 2008, 03:42:43 AM
I’ve never eaten a hamburger from a fast-food restaurant and I’m 22.  It just seems like a waste when it’s something I couple make myself for cheaper.  Besides, I only like hamburger when it’s been burnt past the point of being recognized as meat anyways, so I doubt I would like it.

My system has a Coolmaster Aquagate S1 cooling system and on the whole I’ve been very happy with it but recently my computer has been making the most horrible high-pitched and whirling noises.  At first I thought it might be my hard drive but on investigation I discovered that it is related to the cooling unit.  Lifting the tubes up I can see that there is a lot of air in them and I’m thinking I need to refill it.  The problem is I don't have the slightest clue where to look to buy the coolant itself.  Is this an item I can find somewhere like Best buy or Circuit City?   And for anyone who has had to replace the coolant, what sort of endeavor am I in for?

I got in one of the later betas and really enjoyed it.  The thing is if you don’t like to group you might as well look elsewhere.  From what I saw 95% of the game revolves around group questing.  Also one of the things I enjoy most about WOW is the trade skills which don’t even amount to a foot note in Guild Wars.

I wasn’t trying to single you out warning; but I have often seen parents who try to solve problems that they don’t want to deal with by simply pushing them out of sight.  Regardless of what security you use or how adamantly you try to shelter them, there is always a work around, and children will almost always manage to be smarter than their parents and find it.
1476  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / The wonders of Biometrics and pr0n on: February 11, 2005, 08:41:05 PM
I’m a little baffled by this last bit.  I have no problem with parent being concerned about their children and wishing to guide them, that’s what a good parent does.  However, I learned about sex in the first grade, other children swore regularly, and violent movies were the in thing at my school.  Not to mention that I watched a 2nd grader throw a snowball at a friend which inadvertently contained a shard of ice which severed his ear.  All of this in the first couple years of school.

Violence, sex, and profanity are part of everyday life, part of our culture; to deny this to a child who, unless very young, has probably already seen worst seems not only impossible but very foolish.

1478  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / My first WoW PvP experience on: January 18, 2005, 06:06:58 PM
I play on a PVP server but I’ve never really cared for the actually play vs player conflict.  At this point I don’t see much point in doing so and most of the time its extremely high levels preying on low to midrange characters who have just left the safety of their homeland for the first time.  The only time I will attack another person is if they attack me first.
As well I tend to play to the opposite of rivalries and will actually help low levels Orcs in their homelands when I see them about to die; wave and continue on my merry way.
