FYI: Madballs doesn't work well on Windows 7.  I had to turn off areo to play the demo.
1442  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: How is it Possible That Pizza Hut is still the number one Pizza Chain? on: May 06, 2010, 09:56:15 PM
Pizzahut is actually the cheapest place around here if you use coupons liberally.  I Recommend and order online, some coupons stack and you can regularly save 4-5 dollars.

Sadly I find Pizza Hut food inviting until I actually have it and then I feel sick.

Will this play on a Win7 / GTX 260 system? Or do you need DX11?

Notice: Shattered Horizon requires DirectX 10, a DirectX 10 compatible video card, and Windows Vista or Windows 7. There is no support for Windows XP or DirectX 9.

There are no bots that I have ever seen.  Considering the complexity of the controls it would probably be hard to implement them fairly.

Having some mixed feelings with the new weapons.  On the one hand they are very fun. Going into Silent Running Mode ( You don't show up on the radar or have lights on. Because dead bodies float around as well you basically turn invisible) with the shotgun and sneaking up on people is great fun but they all seem clunkier.  the old weapons were very streamlined, there was no need for a HUD because you could easily how much ammo remained right on your gun.  There also seems to be some overlap.  The new rail gun is a one-shot kill but the old sniper scope for your rifle was almost as good and didn't limit you to a very specific weapon.  These impressions are based on a very limited amount of playtime though so its still too early to tell.
1444  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: [Steam] Shattered Horizon 25% off on: May 05, 2010, 07:18:53 PM
I actually enjoy Shattered Horizon quite a bit but that seems rather expensive considering they have put it on sale for less than $10 twice since December.

Still it's a fun very different FPS. Just don't give up if you don't get it right off, the learning curve is much higher than a standard first person shooter.

Cant comment on Lugaru HD or Aquaria but the other three are excellent.  I just wish they could be activated on Steam.

I cant comment on the quality of the PC version but I had a blast with the PS3 version. Was actually the first PS3 game I played all the way through.  The story is easily the games strongest suit but the game play is fun once you figure out some combos to beat the harder foes.

A word of warning; the junk planet is easily the worst level in the game and I think it's the 2nd one.  Once you get there you will probably want to quit but it get loads better after that.  Stick with it and it is easily worth $15.

A bit of a self promotion since I've done work for the company but might be perfect for some of the people in this thread.  They specialize in making bikes for tall and heavyset riders.  It's a small company but the owner works hard to address any issues or questions customers might have.
1451  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Dawn of War II: FFA on: April 05, 2010, 09:36:18 PM
Some of us regulars are looking for people interested in playing some Free For Alls or just multiplayer in general.  The FFA mode is a great way for people who are inexperienced with the game to play with those who are without feeling overly pressured.  We tend to use Skype for voice communication so if you have that as well feel free to join us.

Also, since some people may not know; all people who own DoWII can play with people who purchased the new expansion so you don't need to feel left out if you don't have it.

If you're interested post your Steam names here and when you're usually available.
1452  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Anyone here work from home? on: March 25, 2010, 11:20:04 PM
I work from home; my office is actually in another state so I don't get to the office very often.  As nice as it is to roll out of bed and be at work it also have the problem of when you roll out of bed you are at work.  I actually find myself working a lot more than I would if I had to leave the house and at hours that I normally wouldn't.  The worst thing for me is some weeks I feel like I never see another person.  Not quite true but when you work 8 hours from home, feel worn out, and since you're already home you don't really feel like going anywhere else.
1453  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: C&C DRM question on: March 22, 2010, 11:13:24 PM
Well the ending is up on Youtube.  Even though it's not completely successful I like what they were trying to do with the storyline but judging by the other comments I'm in the minority.

Spoilers obviously

Spoiler for Hiden:
The storyline works best if you go by the hints throughout the series that Kane is the original Cain from genesis.  He's been alive for a very long time and every time he is killed he is just regenerated as punishment.  The whole purpose of the C&C series has been his attempts to break the cycle.  Basically he's tired of living on earth.  The Brotherhood of Nod was just a means to an end to "transcend" and every time GDI defeated him it resulted in him seeking more desperate measures.

In the GDI ending Kane tells the protagonist that even if he is killed he will just come back over and over to raise an army, repeating the cycle of endless war on earth.

In the Nod ending Kane seems almost sad when he tells the protagonist that "You were too fragile.  You're all (humanity) so fragile."

I would be up for some FFA tonight if any new players were up for it.  The rest of us regulars played a couple FFA's a couple nights ago and it was a lot of fun and the chaotic nature tends to even the playfield even if you don't know the game that well.

Cross Posted from OO

Well I just finished the Chaos Rising Campaign. Very well put together. It doesn't have as many side missions as the original but all are meaningful this time around. You do get a few instances where you choose where to deploy but unless you fail a mission more than once you can still make it to each.

Having seen how the campaign goes I think it's highly like that the next race will be a combined inquisition force instead of just Imperial Guard.

Ending Spoilers

Spoiler for Hiden:
The game ends on a cliffhanger! Argh! Very cool to find out that the Chapter Master of the Blood Ravens is a follower of Chaos. The previous games have hinted at it for a while so it's nice to have it revealed.

Strange, I think I found all but two in America.  The Tank and the Boomer.  Pretty sure Greenland is the last location no matter what though.  Also, pretty sure the locations don't scale so if you save USA for last it will be really easy.

Go to America as soon as possible.  Most of the special undead are found there and they make dealing with armed people much easier.

I thought the original was entertaining enough for what it was but I literally fell asleep during the sequel.  I woke up just in time to see a really cheesy swordfight(?) between Benn Stiller and the masculinity challenged pharaoh.  I think the series can only go downhill from there...

Dominos is two for $14 around here.  I think the texture of the new crust is better but the taste is waay too strong, it's also a lot worse reheated.

For my money I still think Little Caesars is best.  Two pizzas for $12 and they taste better than any other 'fast food' pizza around.  Only downside is they don't deliver around here.
1472  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Poll: What Internet browser do you use most? on: January 08, 2010, 05:52:43 AM
Was a diehard Opera user until most Google Apps stopped working with it.  After a month of trying everything and finding no solution I switched to Chrome.

I do regularly use about 6 browsers though since I have to check websites I work on for cross compatibility.
1473  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: The Steam Holiday sale is live! Daily deals too! on: January 01, 2010, 03:59:26 AM
Well my 15 minute impressions are that Shattered Horizons is that it is very innovative and pretty but a bit limited on content.    There is no tutorial or single player so you are required to learn in normal games.  In most FPS this wouldn't be a problem but since you have the ability fly around freely and/or attach to surfaces there is a considerable learning curve.  So far my favorite thing to do has been to attach to the bottom of asteroids and snipe peoples jetpack fuel tanks.

For $5 I would say it's worth a look if you like FPS but unless they release some free content don't expect to be playing 6 months from now.

Tempted on Shattered Horizon.  Zero G FPS sounds interesting.

I'm tempted, but it's MP only.

I just picked it up, for five dollars I figure if I get an hour of entertainment from it it's worthwhile.  From the reviews it seems like its biggest two criticisms is that it has high system requirements and because of that has a limited player base.

Point of interest it comes with three guest passes.

For anyone interested.
The extra 50 minion cap really does make the game more enjoyable once missions start requiring 10+ minions to finish.
Unofficial Patch
An unofficial patch put together by forum member "walking fishy" which should please a few frustrated players...
This patch, which I should again remind you is totally unofficial, is a neat little collection of fixes and updates designed for the US release of the game. You can download it directly from this site here, but I should warn you that installing this patch is likely to mean there will be difficulties in installing any further official patches (which could force you to do a clean install).
With that in mind, the following fixes are in this (self installing) patch:

Fixed the hanchmen stats, the times for acts of infamy are reduced like they should be, as are the heat ratings.
Population is now 150, instead of 100.
Can build all building in the hotel hub and hotel wings.
Can build hotel doors any where, they are cheaper than normal doors but weaker.
Sentry guns can be built inside as well as out.
Hotel casino, lounge and lobby can now be built inside the base.
The loot item Persian rug can now be walked on.
All gun cabinates can now be built in the barracks.
Removed the annoying BEEP BEEP sound on the control room.
Monkey cage (oliver, from an act of infamy should now be researchable).
Prisioners will live longer in the cell.
Most into movies skipped.
Hiding time on world dominition map is now 10mins.
Only sentry guns can be built in building, not disgiused ones.
Freaks shouldnt set traps off now, or at least not as much.
All loot items should carry over to the second island.
Totem pool is only transferable once complete, since it cant be put together on second island.
Fire Extinguisher placable in the hotel.
BodyGuard is now useful.
Security Cameras and speakers can be built in Hotel.

1476  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Revisiting Evil Genius on: December 29, 2009, 07:18:14 AM
I highly suggest the fan patch that fixes a few issues and increases the number of henchmen you can have.   About half way through the game (mandatory) missions start requiring increasing numbers of henchmen and you will find yourself just waiting for countdown timers to end.  Nothing is as frustrating as needing to retrain minions AFTER your current ones die because you can only have a set number at a time.

Also, a bit of a spoiler but don't worry if your first base isn't perfect.  You eventually get to move to a larger island.
1477  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The BIG difference on: December 19, 2009, 06:41:50 PM
Also, R rated teen comedies probably do BETTER here because teens go to them expecting the material that wouldn't make it into a PG -13 movie.  When I was in high school none of the other guys would go to a PG-13 movie unless it was some big blockbuster because that was 'kids stuff'.

Considering how the first one ended that makes no sense....not to mention how powerful the protagonist is by the end of the game.

I expected a sequel but I figured it would follow the Sith/Jedi woman with the horns.

So your party members have their own quest lines ala Baldur's Gate 2? Sweet.

Only Morrigan has had something that would be considered a sidequest, but it was really by dumb luck that I stumbled into it in the first place. I'd imagine some of the other members have theirs, but I haven't opened them up yet.

Leliana and Alistaire have them too, although they aren't quite as cool.

Shale has one as well.  His is quite interesting, or at least the lead up to it.
