Any chance we could get a newbie oriented server up and running?  I tried playing today (First time) and was massacred at every opportunity.  For the time I played it seemed fun enough but the servers I saw were not very inviting to a newcomer.
1443  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Do you want to have your GoneGold feedback verified here? on: January 05, 2005, 03:48:49 AM
Now that I’m home I think I can verify myself.  Old GG name was Nine now changed to Lordnine.  New email is [email protected] but I’m pretty sure I was listed as [email protected] before on gone gold.  Either way I can confirm it.

well, being an enchanter, i am not too rich and the 1g I have to pay after a few deaths hurts a lot.

I guess I must be missing something.  What 1g ?

I’m guessing he’s a fairly high level.  High-end equipment repairs can be quite costly.
1445  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW: Professions on: December 31, 2004, 02:36:26 AM
I play a rogue with tailoring and enchanting.  I would have chosen leatherworking but I group with a druid friend regularly who has the skill so she shares her wares with me and vice versa.  For the most part tailoring is worthless for a rogue as most leather items are better then their tailored counterparts.  However, having access to free bags at the start of the game is a gold mine.  Plus being able to make green or better items in mass really boosts my enchanting skill, which I have found to be extremely useful for a rogue.  Also, all the stylish shirts I can create make me feel special.  biggrin
1446  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / How much time do you solo vs. group in WoW? on: December 29, 2004, 06:05:19 PM
I play almost exclusively with a good friend of mine so I solo very little.  In truth I don’t find soloing nearly as much fun as being in a group but then again I’ve never had to try and group with people that I don’t know.

Besides, grouping with strangers you would miss out on great moments like this!

She’s the cat; I’m lunch.

1450  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / BIOS/ Driver problems on: December 21, 2004, 04:58:32 AM
Since building my computer a while back I have continued to have startup shutdown problems with my computer.  First of all when I first start my computer I get the error message that “No BIOS detected”.  Despite the error message windows starts without fault.  From within the system everything seems to work fine, the only problem I see is that when I open my device manager I get a conflict with something called WinXP Promise FastTrak 579 Controller; a driver that I installed from a diskette that came with the motherboard.
The real problem comes only when I try to turn off my system.  No matter what I do I get a fatal exception (Blue screen of Death) error and I end up having to reboot my system manually.

My motherboard is a Soltek SL-K8AN2-GR/K8AN2E-GR I’ve tried to access to makers website, listed as www.soltek.com.tw but it seems it no longer exists.  What should I do?
1451  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WOW: enchanting? on: December 20, 2004, 04:08:10 AM
I chose enchanting and tailoring for my rogue and have had a blast with it.  The truth of the matter is that tailoring wont do much good for a rogue after you get past the wool stage of the skill.  I use mine primarily to make goods to disenchant to buff my enchanting skill, which works fine but seems like a waste.

1453  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Question: Hats/Helmets on: December 16, 2004, 06:10:25 AM
Are you sure about the shoulders?  I’m a tailor and I’m almost sure I had made myself shoulders by 15.

What about the face cloths I see people wearing?  I’m a 23rd level rogue I want one too!
1454  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / So I just finished Unreal II on: December 15, 2004, 03:00:22 PM
I enjoyed Unreal II a lot.  I liked the graphics and the crewmates. I really liked the defend missions and the flamethrower!  Despite all the complaints it received I even liked the refreshingly less then cheerful ending.  Halo was fun but unlike the poster above I cant remember a single individual level in the game.  Each to their own I suppose.
1455  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Rumor Mill - Diablo 3 on: December 10, 2004, 03:57:12 PM
I’m with Chris; I played through D2 on normal had a lot of fun, bought the expansion pack, brought my character over and finished it, tried nightmare for a few more levels and then moved on.

That said I’m not really looking forward to Diablo III right now though.  Starcraft 2 on the other hand…
1456  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Anyone else sneak into Moonglade? (WOW) on: December 08, 2004, 08:01:26 PM
In all it took about 35 minutes to swim there. Ten of which was spent trying to find a low enough mountain ridge to get in though; anyone who has ever been to Moonglade knows that it’s completely surrounded by high mountains.  It helped that I have a druid friend who was guiding me to what she though would be the lowest points.

As to fatigue it’s not really an issue.  I’m an elf so one of my cities (Auberdine) is not that far from Moonglade, I just had to stick to the coast and stay out of black water.

I have a few screen shots but I’m having trouble posting them

Just for fun I took my lvl 19 rogue for a long swim and ended up in the “Druid Only” Moonglade.  Was worth the time it took just to hear some responses from the other players there.

Just thought it was funny and had to share.  biggrin
1459  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / State of Fear on: December 07, 2004, 04:45:41 AM
Grrrr

I was just browsing the web and I stumbled onto the news that Michael Crichton was about to publish a new book.  Great!  After looking for ten minutes I still don’t really know what the book is about.  Here’s the universal blurb I find everywhere, perhaps it means more to you then it does to me.

“The undisputed master of the techno-thriller has written his most riveting -- and entertaining -- book yet.
Once again Michael Crichton gives us his trademark combination of page-turning suspense, cutting-edge technology, and extraordinary research. State of Fear is a superb blend of edge-of-your-seat suspense and thought provoking commentary on how information is manipulated in the modern world. From the streets of Paris, to the glaciers of Antarctica to the exotic and dangerous Solomon Islands, State of Fear takes the reader on a roller coaster thrill ride, all the while keeping the brain in high gear.”

Why would anyone write such an uninformative book description?  I’m assuming that’s what’s getting printed on the book jacket as well…

Anyway, the books coming out December 7th
1460  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Are my speaker’s dead? on: December 05, 2004, 09:21:31 PM
I turned them on today and was greeted by a low humming radiating from my sub.  In order to get any sound at all I need to crank the sound all the way up but even then I can barely make out anything.  These are klipsch THX speakers; I’ve had them for a few years and would rather not have to replace them but at this point I don’t see much of an alternative.  Any ideas?
1461  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Funniest WOW bug you’ve encountered on: December 05, 2004, 05:24:06 PM
Last night I was playing WOW with a friend of mine; we had just cleared out a Furbog camp and had proceeded further to the north to look for mushrooms.  Suddenly for no apparent reason she started spawning bears when ever she would stand still.  Within five minutes the entire upper level of the cave was filled.  At first they all spawned passively but the absolute highlight was when they started to attack and she responded, “How dare they attack mommy!”

Of course we died and the problem went away but it was hilarious, I couldn’t stop laughing.

So what’s the best/worst/funniest bug you’ve encountered?

On a side note, why would you cancel? You think you can't play with a 56k connection? I have heard from those with dial-ups that it's quite playable.

Actually yes…I just assumed that a MMORPG would be next to impossible to play on 56k; especially with downloading patches and whatnot.  Something I’ll be sure to test out now.
1464  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WOW account question on: November 30, 2004, 03:45:35 AM

1465  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WOW account question on: November 29, 2004, 08:14:05 PM
I’m currently at college where I have a very fast Internet connection; however at home all I have is a 56k and we don’t have access to anything faster in my area.  If I start an account now and then stop my subscription over the summer will my character still be on the servers come the fall?
1466  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Can you deep fat fry whole potatos? on: November 27, 2004, 03:00:35 AM
We deep fry small whole potatoes about the size of half dollars all the time.  Never tried it with anything bigger but the biggest thing to be aware of is when you break one of them open its going to be unbelievably hot.  I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Actually it ends tonight..Wednesday

It’s Thursday now and I just got done playing a few minutes ago.  I just watched and took part in a huge raid on an Orc camp; three full raid groups of people, a truly awesome sight.

Any of the other servers do anything like this?  I was on server 19 by the way.

I think the night elf starting area is pretty!

Ok, I’m just really tired, I finally made it to a non-elf area and after luscious trees and greens it does look quite ugly.

Quick question; I’m a rogue and I chose pickpocket as a skill.  What can I do with it?  I can’t steal from other players, I can’t steal from NPC’s, and I even tried to steal from a wolf- that didn’t go over so well.

Am I missing something?
1475  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / The new beta testers' WoW impressions thread! on: November 10, 2004, 05:14:44 PM
So far I have been under impressed by World of Warcraft.  I love the graphics, I love the variety of races and items, but group questing-the only reason I see to play a MMORPG over a single player RPG, seems to be completely broken.  I might be just missing an option somewhere but I don’t see the point in questing as a group (aside from added protection) if the quest items are not shared.  Basically if the quest is to collect ten maliciously evil plant seeds I don’t want to have to collect thirty just because I have three people in my group.  Not to sway to far off topic but just having completed the Guild Wars beta I can say that although a good share of the game was flawed, the team questing options were superb, and I would much rather have preferred a system like that implemented in WOW.
