I hate the new facebook.  No one I knew used more than one or two apps so the old system never bothered me.  The new one seems tacky and more favorable for people who like to stalk your every movement.

Some quick picks:

1) Crysis and Crysis Warhead: Good for pushing graphic cards to their limits.  I really enjoyed both games as well.
5) Stalker: Clear Sky.  With all graphics set to max, makes my SLI GPU's cry.  Haven’t gotten far into the game, so can’t comment on how fun it is.

Crysis turns into a slideshow at max settings on my rather high-end system.  Clear Sky while not quite as bad still turns choppy at max in any area that really shows off the lighting effects.

Assassin's Creed and Fallout3 both run beautifully at max on my computer.  Both are still very attractive though.

Three years ago that would have had me really excited but it just seems too spammy and simplistic.  Dawn of War still seems like its superior and it’s a four year old game.  Also, the announcers were really annoying.

That said I’m a hypocrite and will probably buy it anyways.  icon_twisted

as is the abba thing, oddly enough.

and "Iceland has research facilities?" = resistance 2?  don't spoil me if that's tied to the game somehow, but otherwise, i have no idea what it could be.

hope it's a good deal though.

It should be Resistance 2.

EDIT:  Looks like it's already gone....what did it sell for?  I wish I had waited instead of buying that garbage at release.

Price should still be listed but… Gold Box Price: $49.98    (37% off) for the collector’s edition. Sold out in about 15 minutes.

1252  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Is Blu-Ray here to stay? on: December 13, 2008, 09:54:20 PM
I think it really depends on the size of your set.  I have a 32 inch 720p and from 8 feet away I can tell a difference but it’s not ground breaking.  Comparatively a 45+ 1080p set from 10 feet away is WOW.

From what I’ve read the biggest hold up for Blu-Ray and HD sets in general is most people can’t “fit” the widescreen sets in their current entertainment centers.  Additionally, even though widescreen sets have more onscreen room they still appear smaller to most people because they are not as tall and non widescreen content doesn’t fill the whole screen without being stretched.

1257  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Dungeon Keeper MMO or Holy Crap turns to Aw, crap. on: December 02, 2008, 06:51:59 AM
I actually think an MMO version of Dungeon Keeper Gameplay could be really interesting.    My big problem with MMOS is you put so much time into your character but no one really every pays attention to them.  If your character was a primarily your dungeon that you could decorate anyway you wanted and then have it invaded by other dungeon keepers it could make the whole thing more meaningful.

Basic idea would be build your Dungeon as in Dungeon Keeper or Evil Genius and then have a 2nd mode similar to Overlord where you went out and tried to steal from/capture/destroy other peoples dungeons.  Your heroes equipment would be based on what you could make in your dungeon and the minions you take with you would be based on those that lived there.

I can dream right?

My families’ cat had 8 toes on one front paw and 6 on the other (5 and 5 in back).  It was more of a folding action than a thumb but she could pick things up with only one hand.  Only problem was she seemed to get stuck on things more than normal cats because the claws went in too many directions.

Also, two more serious entries.  While not great literature I enjoyed both Liberties Crusade and Speed of Darkness from the StarCraft universe.  Liberties Crusade is fun novelization of Terran fall while Speed of Darkness is an offshoot that is infinitely better written.  Both are worth a look though.  Just stay away from Shadow of the Xel’Naga, its god-awful bad.

I was really let down by Hellboy 2... I liked the first one a lot, though I thought it could've done more... the second one just didn't seem like it was in the same universe... the story was convoluted and kind of cheesy, a lot of the wit of the first movie was missing, it didn't have the same heart.  Thinking back now to when I saw it (in theaters) I'm having a really hard time remembering what happened, while I could tell you the entire story in Hellboy I without skipping a beat.

I thought I was the only one that felt that way.  The big difference for me seemed to be that despite how outlandish some of the elements were Hellboy was still very much grounded in reality.  Hellboy II seemed to all but throw this out.

And while I can understand the actor wanting to get recognition I was disappointed that David Hyde Peirce didn’t reprise his role as the voice of Abe.  I thought he was PERFECT.

Strange though - Squenix is doing absolutely nothing (at least based on screenshots) to enhance this game for the DS. FFIV got a total rewrite when it came out on the DS - CT is getting nothing.

Doesn't mean that'll stop me from buying it when it comes out though. biggrin

Eh, I can think of a couple of reasons for no graphics overhaul:

1) It still boasts some gorgeous last generation SNES  graphics, unlike FF4 which looked nice by the standards of early SNES but was very much overtaken by the visuals of FF6, CT, Seiken Densetsu 2&3, Star Ocean, etc.  So 3D wouldn't necessarilly be an upgrade and it risks losing a lot of the charm.

2) CT just isn't on the same scale of success as Final Fantasy so it may not justify the increased expense a complete remake would entail.

I prefer crisp 2D graphics over the blocky pixely 3D graphics that the DS is capable of…

1270  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Red Alert 3 Impressions on: November 13, 2008, 05:17:33 PM
The game play feels waaay faster than in Red Alert 2.  Too fast in my opinion.  I feel like every unit and building in the game should have four times as much hit points just so that they can last a few second once they come under fire.  Also, I’ve never been a fan of kill a whole base in one shot weapons and RA3 has them in abundance.  Additionally you get additional “abilities” that while not as powerful can still destroy large chunks of a base or army without ever having to actually fight.

I suppose my biggest criticisms come from the fact that the Dawn of War games switched the focus to tactics over unit production, a style I prefer far more.  To be fair you can’t spam one unit type anymore and expect to win.  Now you have to spam at least two!

All this said the campaign is still enjoyable for what it is.   The cut scenes are great but shorter than I expected, and the whole cast seems to be having a blast.  If you enjoy the quirkiness of RA2 and want a single player diversion give it a shot but I can’t even imagine trying to play online competitively.

Last night was trying to get the new version of Flash to install on IE7 and it was refusing.  The official help suggested using Reset.cmd.  Well I reluctantly ran it and Flash installed perfectly.  Contented I shut down for the night.  This morning I start up my computer and I’m getting two problems.  One my audio service is not running.
If I open up services from control panel and try to start it says “not enough server storage is available to complete this operation”
Additionally I have a windows security reminder telling me that auto updates isn’t on for some reason and System role back is also disabled.

Does anyone have a solution to the bug with a left handed mouse not being able to use VATS?  You can queue up actions but your character wont fire.  If I switch my control panel settings on my computer itself its fine but it’s annoying to use anything else outside of the game.
