I wonder if the side quest in Fallout 3 'Trouble on the Homefront' is a  slywink and a nod to that Spoiler you just posted,as the side quests ends similar
Spoiler for Hiden:
after helping vault 101 and restoring peace, you are asked to leave and not come back as there were still people who thought you were a dick and it would upset some of them if you stayed(or visited whenever you wanted)

and that second paragraph is what 'The President' asks you to do in FO3,release the crap into the water supply

Spoiler for Hiden:
I actually liked the ďpresidentĒ nod in Fallout 3.  Fallout 2 was a bit more poignant, however, since the president was a real person who had been democratically elected.  Fallout2 basically gave you the choice of dooming a bunch of people whose only fault was being born in isolation and electing an ass as president, or choosing to kill off all the people of mainland America.

I donít remember Vault 101 kicking me out.  Maybe I was just too loveable.  icon_smile

but the fact is,if in Fallout 3 the Brotherhood of Steel were assholes and only looking out for themselves that would make them exactly the same as The Talon Company,The Outcasts AND The Enclave in the'd be a bit shit,No?
The Fallouts were always very grey on morality and happy endings were relative.  In the original Fallout after you save your vault and the world…

Spoiler for Hiden:
You return home to Vault 13 only to have the door slammed shut in your face.  By becoming strong enough to save your people you had become something terrible and foreign in their eyes, and so were left to wander the wasteland on your own.

The Enclave was also a bit different in Fallout 2.  They were direct descendants of the US government and military after the war.  The Presidents Science Council had decreed that all humans who had survived the apocalypse were mutants regardless of whether or not they showed physical signs.  Their plan was to release a pathogen into the Jetstream to wipe out humanity and then once the world had been cleaned they would start the repopulation program.

So here's a question for you, Lordnine, and think about it first : courtesy to what, exactly? What are you doing wrong in someone else's eyes by being naked in the shower or a change room? What form of courtesy is it, where another persons opinion of you overrules your own "sensibilities" in being naked in a place thusly designed for said state and with clear functional intent? Courtesy to children who have no interest in you more than they do an interesting tree, or bug, or rock they've seen? Courtesy to people who feel the need to cover themselves up, and expect others around them to do the same? Why is your disinterest in seeing naked people, while in a place expressly designed for people to be naked, more important than my need to get clean? You chose where you look. I've seen dozens of men in a day, and no penises, though they were all naked. I don't have any interest in it, so if you just relax about it, it becomes moot.
Well, to be completely blunt; if I donít know you on some personal level then youíre basically decoration, and I donít hang unpleasant art in my house.  Youíre not damaging my sensibilities or making my uncomfortable (Well, unless youíre doing something REALLY bizarre), I just donít want to see it in the same way I donít want to see a display of modern art constructed out of random animal corpses.

If youíre in the shower, fine, if not then put a damn towel on.   Tongue

I watch people who wear their underwear into the shower, or shorts, or hide behind towels, and I wonder what it's like to not be comfortable with yourself. I'm a big guy, BTW - not my prior 365, but down to about 235 (with a significant amount of muscle tissue mind you). I've worked at it, and I have no reason to be embarrassed.
Itís not about shame, itís about courtesy.  You have no reason to be embarrassed but I still donít want to see your naked body.
I actually donít have a problem with nudity in media but it should be peopleís choice to NOT have to see it in the same way that you can choose not to see violent media.  That doesnít mean it shouldnít exist at all.

Fallout 3 also really bugged me in that it portrayed the Brotherhood of Steel as virtuous heroes.  In the original cannon the Brotherhood were kind of assholes, they really only cared about the rest of humanity if it was in their best interest to do so at the present moment.

You have just described the Brotherhood Outcasts to a tee(the assholes part anyway),they broke off from the Brotherhood of Steel,so perhaps they were the assholes you met back in Fallout 1
Eh?  The east coast Brotherhood are a splinter group.  The brotherhood originated in California.  From the wiki:
The Brotherhood of Steel is a neo-knightly order that rose from the ashes of the American military of the West Coast in the years following the devastation of 2077. The organization's tenets include the eradication of mutants and worship of technology. The Brotherhood has never been very keen on sharing their resources with their fellow wastelanders (who they generally consider too ignorant and irresponsible to deserve such advanced technology).
Also, the Outcasts are trying to return the brotherhood to what they used to be.
There are members of Lyons' expeditionary force to the East Coast who preferred to stay faithful to the Brotherhood's original goals of locating and preserving technology and knowledge. These members of the Brotherhood left the Citadel to take up residence in Fort Independence, and stylized themselves as the Brotherhood Outcasts.[3] In addition to carrying out Lyon's original orders, the Outcasts are also trying to re-establish contact with the western Elders, and have Lyons placed in front of a firing squad.
1093  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Fallout 4? on: January 09, 2013, 11:12:10 PM
I would argue thatís part of what makes FalloutÖFallout.  Thinking back on the original, Fallout 1 let you submit to the villains will and become his servant if you really wanted to.

Fallout 3 also really bugged me in that it portrayed the Brotherhood of Steel as virtuous heroes.  In the original cannon the Brotherhood were kind of assholes, they really only cared about the rest of humanity if it was in their best interest to do so at the present moment.

Either way, I will be interested to see what they do with a Fallout 4 if that really is the announcement.

Regardless, MOAR PLEAZ!
The consensus is generally that people who care a lot about story and or loved the original Fallouts, prefer New Vegas.  People that want a sandbox or really enjoy the Elderscrolls games prefer Fallout3.

Interesting.  I tried the demos for first Indiana Jones and the Batmanís.  They seemed amusing but werenít something I could see playing on my own and getting people to play local is very difficult.  With online co-op I would be much more likely to play them.

My excitement is stifled somewhat by how much more I enjoyed New Vegas than Fallout 3.  Maybe they could share the work this time around and let Obsidian do all the writing and quest building and have Bethesda make the over world and handle Q&A.  I can dream, right?

1102  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wii U on: December 31, 2012, 05:31:54 AM
I picked up Trine 2 because it was on sale tonight and am really impressed with how good it is on the WiiU.  I also made a potentially surprising discovery, since the game was downloaded it was running off the hard drive and the load times were almost instant, quite a bit faster even then running the game on my PC.

Compared to the long load times to start other games on the WiiU I have to think it’s the DVD drive that is holding the system back and not the other components.   I would be really interested to hear about loading times for anyone who has purchased the downloadable version of ZombiU to see if my theory holds up.

As for Trine 2; if you don’t already own it on PC and have a WiiU this seems like the definitive version to get.  Really fun puzzle platformer for co-op or by yourself.

Other games on sale are Little Inferno and Arora but act fast if you want them as I think the sales end on the 1st.

Watched this on Christmas.  While I donít think the movie deserves the 65% it has on Rotten Tomatoes it is without a doubt the weakest of the movies.  I felt the movie had some serious pacing and tone issues that could have been solved with some fairly minor scene reworking and if they had cut about 30 minutes out of the movie.

The worst part of the movie in my opinion was the Troll scene towards the beginning, which although quite faithful to the source material, was completely out of place with the tone of the movie.  Maybe itís because I enjoyed the rest of the movie quite a bit but this one scene annoyed me more than Jar Jar Binks.
1104  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Far Cry 3 or Dishonored? on: December 27, 2012, 01:57:54 AM
I loved Dishonored (my GOTY) but as people have pointed out above itís a stealth/exploration game not a shooter.  If you play it like a shooter you are going to be disappointed because you will miss most of the game and finish very quickly.

Which sort of experience are you looking for?

Also, with all the sales that have hit for these games in the last two weeks why are you paying full price for either one of them?

Maybe one or two segments.  I enjoyed the game for it's co-op, I don't think I would recommend it for single-player.  Co-op is excellent though, the two characters play almost completely different.
1108  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Prometheus (previously Alien the Prequel) on: December 21, 2012, 02:57:56 AM
I watched the film recently.  As it was I thought it was OK but after it finished I watched the deleted scenes and was surprised just how much better many of them would have made the movie.  Most of them were fairly minor but added a lot more depth to many of the characters actions.

The biggest scene omission in my opinion happens pretty close to the end.
Spoiler for Hiden:
In the theatrical cut the Space Jockey/ Engineer wakes up and for no reason starts killing people.

In the deleted scene he actually has a brief conversation with the people in the room.  The Engineer is actually fairly calm until the Old Dude starts yelling that humans are their equals and that they are both like gods; at which point the engineer becomes offended and then attacks the people in the room.

For me this makes it perfectly clear as to why the Engineers would choose to exterminate the human race after their creation and added extra meaning to the movie.

TVii is neat but the interface is definitely made for someone with smaller hands than I have.  I dislike the fact that you HAVE TO use the touch interface for it to work.   The remote has joysticks, let me use them if I want to!  Still I do like how easy it is to setup, makes keeping track of my channels easier and means one less controller on my coffee table.

How or why this was green lighted for a movie series is baffling
I actually enjoyed the second book almost as much as the first.  The problem is that the 2nd ends on a cliffhanger which basically forces you to read the third.  The third book *could* actually work better as a movie but I really hope whoever produces it is allowed to take some liberties with the script.  The way it plays out basically ruins the memory of characters from the first two books as well as making the point of the first book all for nothing.

The Wool Omnibus would be my pick.  Technically itís 5 books but they all continue the same immediate story and none are very long.  I picked it up on a whim after someone on Slick Deals recommended it when the kindle version was on sale.  Itís been a long time since a novel has hooked me as much as this one did.

The book is about people that live underground in silos after some catastrophic event (Think Fallout and the Vaults).  Each book within in the Omnibus is told from the perspective of a different person within the silo except for the last book which ties all the stories together and completes the narrative.
