“With the next Xbox, you supposedly have to have an internet connection, and the discs are watermarked, whereby once played on one console it won’t play on another," Livingston said. "So I think the generation after that will be digital-only.”

That would be a worse decision than having a code based requirement for a game that ties to an online account.  If your console breaks and you need a new one your whole library has to be replaced?  How about if a new version of the console comes out and you want to upgrade?

Spoilers for my ending...
Spoiler for Hiden:
I was really disappointed that my final mission to stop Havelock was as basic as climbing the lighthouse, walking into a room where he was standing alone at a table, Blinking behind him for a choke-out, and letting Emily out of a locked room. As soon as she jumped into my arms, the final cutscene and credits final dialogue with the big bad guy, just a summary of everyone's life after the rescue.  It wasn't bad, but I guess I expected a bit more.
Spoiler for Hiden:
The bad guy has a big long monologue if you jump down in front of him instead of just killing him outright.

I get the impression that the developers are trying to send us a message, but the only message I'm receiving is that they're sexist.
I think it could be looked at as sexist but not in the way you are implying.  It comes down to most men want to protect/shelter women but they don’t give a damn about other men.

If you want a vulnerable male protagonist you can also find them in a few games, although it seems to always be first person.  I’m thinking games like Amnesia or even ZombiU.
1084  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New Xbox: Always online, no second-hand games, 50GB Blu-ray and new kinect(EDGE) on: February 22, 2013, 07:11:18 PM

They're already seriously struggling for sales, with only 57K consoles sold in January.  With very few big games scheduled from third parties I'm pretty sure it will quickly become an also-ran that is only really good for the Nintento first-party games.  Which will be enough for a niche audience.

This is a true statement but I’m not sure why it should surprise anyone.  The Wii was an anomaly.  People buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo exclusives.  Nintendo has a unique degree of nostalgia and charm that the other console producers can’t touch.  Look at Playstation all-stars vs Smash Bros. Sales so far are abysmal because there are really only three games on the system that you can’t buy elsewhere.  I really don’t know why there was a push to get third party ports on the system in the first place.  And I do mean ports.  If a developer wants to throw everything into the game, like ZombiU, then I’m all for it.  But if it’s a game you can buy somewhere else, only now with touchscreen support, than they are better off putting their efforts somewhere else.

That said, once a few games come out I think the WiiU will do well for itself in the role of a second console.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate demos, F-Zero for .$30, and PicDun 2!

Spoiler for Nintendo Weekly Download:
Wii U demos
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Trine 2: Director’s Cut

Wii U Virtual Console
F-Zero – 30 cents

3DS demos
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

3DS Virtual Console
Yoshi – $4.99

3DS retail
Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan – $39.99

3DS Download
Picdun 2: Witch’s Curse – $4.99
Viking Invasion 2 – Tower Defense – $7.99

I picked up F-Zero on the WiiU yesterday and I’m actually pretty impressed how it’s handled on the system.  When you start the game you get a SNES controller display and you can remap any button on the SNES to any button on the WiiU pad.  I also saw the option to add a checkpoint into your current game to save progress.  Of course the best feature for me is that the games can be played directly from the WiiU pad without needing the TV on.

A new appeasement offer, the Wii U will now get the online challenge mode for free in April.  This mode will contain daily and weekly level challenges for between 1-5 players.  This will be the first time Rayman has ever been online and will feature leader-boards and more.

It's not what I wanted but it's better than a demo.  Doesn't seem like it's going to be enough to calm the fans down though.

Not sure what class you are playing but I'd stay away from the PsiOps class for a first go around.

This.  I would choose a navy/tech guy if you want to experience everything the game has to offer.  Hack doors, rewire security systems, etc.  PsiOps is fun as well but pretty hard until you get used to the game mechanics.  The heavy weapons guy just seems a bit dull in comparison to the others.

Eh, I actually have a bit of the same problem. If I put more than just the tip of my thumbs on the sticks my fingers hit.  If I were to rest my thumb in the same position as it sits on the 360 controller I can actually touch the opposite joystick from the one my thumb is resting on.

Another photo of the previously pictured controller.

It looks OK, nothing great.  I would actually prefer a bit more bulk to it.  As one of about three people who own one I have to say the WiiU controller is actually my favorite in a long time.  I have large hands and both the 360 and PS3 controllers cause my hands to cramp up after about 30 minutes.

They have over 10,000 signatures on the petition now.  Ubisoft offered a NEW exclusive demo for the WiiU which just made people angrier.  Now they’ve fired the PR person who came up with the demo idea and even the developers are publicly opposing the delay.

The whole thing is turning into a nightmare for Ubisoft now as even non-gaming websites are starting to pick up the story.  I saw an article on Forbes this morning.  It looks like they have their own personal ME3 style PR disaster on their hands

I imagine any minute now they will be announcing that this delay is not related to the game going multi-platform.

The development team confirmed that wasnt the case.  They aren't happy either.

I completely understand you but you have to understand one thing. This is not a decision taken by the development team, this comes from really really high up, so please don't pick on the game.

If you're pissed, imagine how we feel. Think on the situation, we've been making overtime with this game practically since May preparing E3, and then almost a demo per month (gamescon, Wii U presentation, shops, eShop, etc...) and at the same time trying to actually finish the game. We had a first delay because it was obvious we couldn't finish on time but we gave it all to be there on February. What face do you think we had when the week we had to close the game we're being told it's not going to be released? I couldn't believe it.

For practical matters, you'll have to wait for some months for the game to be released and will most likely serve for more content to be added and do it better. For us, this means we've spent 6 months barely seeing our wifes, kids, and friends for nothing because, after all, such a haste wasn't needed. Believe it, it was a hell to swallow these news. - Xavier Poix

The amount of hatred they are getting on their Facebook account right now is amazing.  I would say they’ve gotten well over 200 hate posts in less than an hour.  If they are smart they will reinstate the original release date and release the other versions with a couple extra levels or something.

Some bad news for people looking forward to this one at the end of the month.

Rayman Legends has been delayed once again, to "early September." This is annoying news for Wii U owners, who already saw it delayed out of the launch window and into February and March. But it's good news for PS3 and Xbox owners who had yet to pick up a Wii U, as the game is now planned for simultaneous release on those platforms. - Joystiq

Horrible business practice.  I have no problem with an eventual multiplatform release but delaying a finished game 6 months is unacceptable.

The forums are starting to go ballistic with multiple people canceling preorders and threatening to boycott the company’s other games.

Given a couple years and some price drops probably both, but I’m in no hurry.  I purchased a WiiU on release day because I enjoy first party Nintendo games.  I can’t really name a first party Sony or Microsoft game series that I care about. I will always be a PC gamer first and most third party titles will come out there anyways so I can wait.

The gameplay and graphics in the trailer look fine but that was possibly the worst voice over I’ve ever heard from a game.  Apparently bad enough that the head writer stepped in and disowned it, saying that it’s not from the game itself.

The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot - Fangus Klot was mentioned in Strangers Wrath.  He was a gunslinger, so this would probably be a FPS similar to Strangers Wrath.

Oddworld: Squeek's Oddysee – A character from Munch’s Oddysee.  From the odworld wiki it sounds like Squeek’s race can take control of people.  Maybe a 3rd person stealthy type of game?

Oddworld: The Hand of Odd – I remember they were throwing around ideas for a squad based strategy type game with this name over 10 years ago.

SligStorm – No idea.

Spoiler for Hiden:
after helping vault 101 and restoring peace, you are asked to leave and not come back as there were still people who thought you were a dick and it would upset some of them if you stayed(or visited whenever you wanted)

and that second paragraph is what 'The President' asks you to do in FO3,release the crap into the water supply

Spoiler for Hiden:
I actually liked the “president” nod in Fallout 3.  Fallout 2 was a bit more poignant, however, since the president was a real person who had been democratically elected.  Fallout2 basically gave you the choice of dooming a bunch of people whose only fault was being born in isolation and electing an ass as president, or choosing to kill off all the people of mainland America.

I don’t remember Vault 101 kicking me out.  Maybe I was just too loveable.  icon_smile

The Fallouts were always very grey on morality and happy endings were relative.  In the original Fallout after you save your vault and the world…

Spoiler for Hiden:
You return home to Vault 13 only to have the door slammed shut in your face.  By becoming strong enough to save your people you had become something terrible and foreign in their eyes, and so were left to wander the wasteland on your own.

The Enclave was also a bit different in Fallout 2.  They were direct descendants of the US government and military after the war.  The Presidents Science Council had decreed that all humans who had survived the apocalypse were mutants regardless of whether or not they showed physical signs.  Their plan was to release a pathogen into the Jetstream to wipe out humanity and then once the world had been cleaned they would start the repopulation program.

So here's a question for you, Lordnine, and think about it first : courtesy to what, exactly? What are you doing wrong in someone else's eyes by being naked in the shower or a change room? What form of courtesy is it, where another persons opinion of you overrules your own "sensibilities" in being naked in a place thusly designed for said state and with clear functional intent? Courtesy to children who have no interest in you more than they do an interesting tree, or bug, or rock they've seen? Courtesy to people who feel the need to cover themselves up, and expect others around them to do the same? Why is your disinterest in seeing naked people, while in a place expressly designed for people to be naked, more important than my need to get clean? You chose where you look. I've seen dozens of men in a day, and no penises, though they were all naked. I don't have any interest in it, so if you just relax about it, it becomes moot.
Well, to be completely blunt; if I don’t know you on some personal level then you’re basically decoration, and I don’t hang unpleasant art in my house.  You’re not damaging my sensibilities or making my uncomfortable (Well, unless you’re doing something REALLY bizarre), I just don’t want to see it in the same way I don’t want to see a display of modern art constructed out of random animal corpses.

If you’re in the shower, fine, if not then put a damn towel on.   Tongue

It’s not about shame, it’s about courtesy.  You have no reason to be embarrassed but I still don’t want to see your naked body.
I actually don’t have a problem with nudity in media but it should be people’s choice to NOT have to see it in the same way that you can choose not to see violent media.  That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist at all.

Fallout 3 also really bugged me in that it portrayed the Brotherhood of Steel as virtuous heroes.  In the original cannon the Brotherhood were kind of assholes, they really only cared about the rest of humanity if it was in their best interest to do so at the present moment.

You have just described the Brotherhood Outcasts to a tee(the assholes part anyway),they broke off from the Brotherhood of Steel,so perhaps they were the assholes you met back in Fallout 1
Eh?  The east coast Brotherhood are a splinter group.  The brotherhood originated in California.  From the wiki:
The Brotherhood of Steel is a neo-knightly order that rose from the ashes of the American military of the West Coast in the years following the devastation of 2077. The organization's tenets include the eradication of mutants and worship of technology. The Brotherhood has never been very keen on sharing their resources with their fellow wastelanders (who they generally consider too ignorant and irresponsible to deserve such advanced technology).
Also, the Outcasts are trying to return the brotherhood to what they used to be.
There are members of Lyons' expeditionary force to the East Coast who preferred to stay faithful to the Brotherhood's original goals of locating and preserving technology and knowledge. These members of the Brotherhood left the Citadel to take up residence in Fort Independence, and stylized themselves as the Brotherhood Outcasts.[3] In addition to carrying out Lyon's original orders, the Outcasts are also trying to re-establish contact with the western Elders, and have Lyons placed in front of a firing squad.

I would argue that’s part of what makes Fallout…Fallout.  Thinking back on the original, Fallout 1 let you submit to the villains will and become his servant if you really wanted to.

Fallout 3 also really bugged me in that it portrayed the Brotherhood of Steel as virtuous heroes.  In the original cannon the Brotherhood were kind of assholes, they really only cared about the rest of humanity if it was in their best interest to do so at the present moment.

Either way, I will be interested to see what they do with a Fallout 4 if that really is the announcement.
