Doop:  My advice: Stay away from Elemental, bud.  It's about as enjoyable as watching the Red Sox was this year.......

That's a lot of gaming for 9 bucks.  Sacred 2 is a big game.  Thanks for the update.

So far it is Dishonored or Dragon's Dogma.  I need to finish Dishonored first (I think) before declaring a winner.

The Banner Saga may be exactly what you're looking for.

It's a kickstarter game, and I've been following it for awhile now.  If graphics aren't a big deal, but gameplay and strategy/tactics is - you should definately keep an eye on this.

Here's a recent video (about 5 minutes long) that does a good job explaining the multiplayer portion of the game:

Demo's been released.  Only reason I tried it is because I remembered Hark's post here.

I'm not ready to give any "review" of the demo yet - but I will say I played it A LOT longer than I thought I would.   thumbsup

Check Hark's link above if interested.
86  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: DUST 514 - (FPS MMO game in EVE universe) on: October 31, 2012, 01:29:51 AM
So the new trailer is pretty cool.  I can't get over the decision to keep this ps3 exclusive - but what do I know?

GT Link

If someone wants to move the thread to Console Gaming since it's ps3 exclusive, (even though it's an MMO) - I think it's just as appropriate as keeping it here.  Certainly doesn't matter to me.
87  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] XCOM: Enemy Unknown on: October 26, 2012, 07:30:41 PM
Nope. You get a point allotment. Each soldier or alien costs XX points depending on his worth. It's a pretty cool system really. Human soldiers are pretty customizable. The more awesomerrr you make them, the more they cost.  Its not very hard to pickup at all.
88  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] XCOM: Enemy Unknown on: October 26, 2012, 01:53:52 PM
I've played maybe 10 mp matches or so. All but two against my brother where we chose the options. They were fun for what they are. Tried a couple matches against random opponents who both quit halfway through when they were losing. Typical I suppose. I would imagine if they had been ranked games, the competition would have been better and they wouldn't have quit early if down a troop or two. That is a guess though, as I've yet to try it. My guess is that people play unranked mostly to test team builds - at least thats what I would imagine its used for.
89  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Fallen Enchantress on: October 25, 2012, 02:07:16 AM
Early impressions:  It's great.  I've even tried the campaign! *gasp!*  It's actually pretty good! far.

I haven't hit late game in sandbox yet, which will tell us a lot.  But so far, so good.
90  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] XCOM: Enemy Unknown on: October 15, 2012, 10:58:34 PM
I'm confused about something.  Kato says he's running a mod with the Second Wave "hidden options" unlocked.  Yet I read somewhere (I visit so many damned forums, I can't find where I read it) that a Dev posted that the Second Wave options don't really exist.  They were something Firaxis toyed with but didn't have time to implement.

So... what gives?  Did I just read it wrong?  (if someone can find that post from that dev, it would be helpful.  I've scanned OO, Steam, GWJ, and QT3, and still can't find where I saw it)

91  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] XCOM: Enemy Unknown on: October 13, 2012, 04:57:51 PM
Just finished up a base assault.  28 enemies killed and a solid victory.  Now the bad news:

I lost my Kato and my AA on that mission.  And both were eventually killed a second time by my Zinfan (if you know what I mean).

After reading other posts of how bad these base missions can go, I decided to take it unbelievably slow.  Overwatch saved my butt countless times.  And I still am not convinced having just a sniper and 5 assaults isn't the way to go.  They are so, so, so good. Of course, I don't have 5 assaults, so I couldn't try it if I wanted to.

92  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] XCOM: Enemy Unknown on: October 13, 2012, 02:29:35 AM
You're doing fine, zinfan.  My panic board looks like one big giant red stop light.
93  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] XCOM: Enemy Unknown on: October 12, 2012, 10:50:13 PM

95  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] XCOM: Enemy Unknown on: October 12, 2012, 05:52:13 PM
So I lost my Soulchilde last night to a fluke Floater crit.  Which is absolute bullshit, since everyone knows the only way Soulchilde should ever die in a video game is from Lockdown friendly fire.

The funny thing is just how mad I was when it happened.  I mean, like really mad.  This game is pretty awesome that it can evoke feelings like that from players.  I remember getting attached to my guys in the original, but I don't remember it being like this.  In a really nerdy way, that is a great thing.  Destructor, Kato, and AA are still kicking though - albeit taking turns warming hospital beds.  Man alive am I glad they don't charge hospital bills against your income.  I'd be in some serious trouble financially.

96  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] XCOM: Enemy Unknown on: October 11, 2012, 03:45:34 PM
So here's my really quick thoughts of the game so far:

I think it's significantly different than the original game in many key ways - some of which I like, others I don't like at all.  They've all been stated before, so I won't bother here.  I agree very much with Bruce Geryk that the game feels like I am moving from cover point to cover point, functionally reducing the actual choice I have of where to intelligently move on the map - although it is masked somewhat by all the options you have each turn.  All the negatives aside, judging this game on it's own merits apart from comparison to the original - I think it is great.  Much more importantly, I think it's fun as hell and would give it 4.5 out of 5 stars so far.  If the bottom line is to play games to have fun (and for me, it is) - than I'm not sure there is a whole hell of a lot to complain about here.  I see myself playing Enemy Unknown for a good long while.
97  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] XCOM: Enemy Unknown on: October 05, 2012, 02:22:45 PM
Agree with you on quite a few points.  Disagree on the flash-bang grenades!!  Anything they can do to add more options/tactics to combat, the better imo.  I would take flash-bangs, flamethrowers, psyker armor, bio-bombs, tangle-grenades, the kitchen sink, and anything else they can come up with.  Maybe someone will find a way to mod all that stuff in, so for people that feel "that doesn't belong in xcom" - they never have to worry about it.

Anyone know if Jake was ever asked the question on why they went with 'You-Go-I-Go' instead of an initiative system for combat?  It's not like they haven't deviated from the original in other ways, so I'm not sure why this would be a great point of contention.  Just curious if he's ever commented on it.

98  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] XCOM: Enemy Unknown on: October 01, 2012, 10:29:00 PM
I think a review or preview/review is out for the game.  I say 'think', because I'm kind of afraid to read through it guessing it may be full of spoilers.  It's labeled preview but has a rating associated with it; so I'm not sure what it is.  Let's just call it an Article!

But, if the potential spoiler thing doesn't bother you...  Game Informer Article

Probably not big on anyone's list right now with GW2, TLII, and BL2 all out now.  But Beta 5 was released yesterday for Fallen Enchantress:

Playing the demo to make sure my resolution is supported (2560x1440).  It is - and it looks sweet.

Both Outlander and Ember Mage are fun as hell right out of the gate.  Can't comment on others yet.

Maybe a dumb question, but I can't find the answer anywhere.  Is there any reason to believe Torchlight 2 won't support 2560x1440 resolution?

Nice vids Blackjack, and the narrator is very entertaining....worth a watch.  Watching those vids cemented my choice for starting out in "Classic" Iron Man mode.

According to the devs you really don't want to choose Iron Man mode for your first playthrough, even if you're an experienced X-Com veteran. Save that for when you've won the game once. Classic difficulty should add plenty of challenge anyway.

Yeah I hear you. You're probably right, I just don't like the temptation of reloading battles, it's a slippery slope for me

Me too.  If I know I have the option - I'll probably take it.  I'm much more inclined to play Iron Man - just on a slightly lower difficulty level.

I like it as well - a whole lot. I play Rangers and Thieves; so maybe it is class depedant. That being said, I still wouldn't be opposed to them lowering the amount of mobs - as it feels like there are too many fights underwater.

Cool post, ritt.  I'm well aware of it's flaws as well, and indeed there is a nice list of them at this point.
Despite that, it is without question one of the best overall video-games I have ever played - period.
With the inordinate amount of shit that is released to gamers on a weekly basis, to think ArenaNet could stuff so many amazing things into one game, and have it be this stellar, is mind-boggling.
In every aspect that matters (to me) - Guild Wars 2 is magnificent.

This game is absolutely awesome!

Yesterday early morning before going to work, I log in for about 2 hours.  I'm hanging out in the Human area at the farm with all the cows.  My keyboard is acting up, so I decide to clean it.  Soon, from the caves to the north comes a group of bandits to raid the farm.  I'm in no position to help really, and decide to just see what happens.  About 2-3 minutes go by, and a group of players come running in from the east.  I'd say around a dozen characters.  I had my view looking out about eye level from an Asura.  Just watching the fight as a bystander from basically eye-level (which I never really do) was the coolest thing.  Magic was flying everywhere, blue lights from the Guardians, purple from the mesmers, and fire and lightning from the Elementalists.  The two characters that clearly stood out from the dozen were a human mage in air attunement and a huge char mesmer wielding two longswords.  I seriously just sat there like I was watching an action scene from a movie or something.  I have never been into magic-type characters when I play these games (I prefer thief types) - but I can't tell you how awesome it was to watch that battle with all the effects going off.

After it was over, the dozen or so people kind of hung out for a few minutes, and then headed as one to a cave where they downed a big troll.  I went back to cleaning my keyboard just amazed at how engrossing this game can be, and I did absolutely nothing but watch.
114  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] XCOM: Enemy Unknown on: August 30, 2012, 08:17:37 PM
The funniest thing about all these videos to me is how often they talk about how hard the game is; yet I don't recall ever seeing more than one guy die in any given mission.
115  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Guild Wars 2 on: August 30, 2012, 03:06:00 PM

It's pretty rare when I absolutely hate a game.  I'm a pretty forgiving gamer for the most part.  The exception to that rule is sports games, where I tend to be overly critical.  On the other hand, I generally don't gush completely either.  Even the Homeworld Series and some of the amazing 2kSports Basketball titles from 2007 on, I usually find something that bothers me eventually.  But I have to say I simply can't say enough positive things about Guild Wars 2.  For a genre that has basically worn out it's welcome with so many people (even me to a certain degree I guess) - I'm finding this game to be flat outstanding.  Since Saturday, I get home from work and can not get changed and settle in front of the PC fast enough.  To say the game has it's hooks in me is an understatement.  I love playing my Sylvari ranger and Asura thief equally, and really the only upsetting thing for me is that I can't play them both at the same time.  icon_wink

From a WvW standpoint, it's just too much fun.  But honestly, I knew that was going to rock from the betas, so I'm not completely surprised how great it is.  It's the primary reason I wanted the game.  It's from the pve standpoint that I'm so blown away though.  I am constantly finding new areas to explore that I miss with one character and then accidently find with another.  The rewarding exploration component of this game can not be expressed in words.  Now granted, I love the art style and the stupid little attention to detail everywhere, which makes it much more satisfying than it may for others that don't pay attention to things like that.  But I've never been a task oriented player in games like this - so the idea of going from heart to heart to heart on a predetermined path to fill them in and move on to the next area is not something I even remotely think about.  Basically, I just wander around (especially with my asura, cause I love to watch the silliness of his running animations) and just go places that look cool or interesting, often getting in way over my head.  It is a total blast.

So, I am proud to say I am officially gushing over Guild Wars 2 - and at this point at least, can not imagine wanting more from the game.  Arenanet really hit this one out of the park, and I think the 5 year development time (or whatever it was) really, really paid off.

116  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Guild Wars 2 on: August 28, 2012, 01:04:52 PM
Scraper: I suppose that is a valid concern. It also leads into another big positive for me.  End game content is likely XX hours into the game. Considering how many dozens and dozens of hours one will have played to reach that (assuming the ride there is enjoyable), the fun/hrs. played/game cost is off the charts for this game.
117  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Guild Wars 2 on: August 28, 2012, 10:05:56 AM
It may be the savior of mmo's until people get tired of it and move on, just like everything else.  That being said, for me it's just about the perfect game.  The pvp and combat mechanic is fun, the stupid little mini games like keg brawl are addictingly fun, the classes are well thought out, the game rewards explorer-types, you get experience for just about anything you do, the world is extremely expansive, the personal stories are actually good, the crafting is rewarding, and there is no monthly fee.  Pretty much hits every note for me.
