2881  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PS3 price drop? on: July 06, 2007, 01:34:32 AM
Thanks to Big Jake on OO, but didn't see this posted here yet.

Game Daily Biz link.

"Although Sony has yet to confirm a price drop officially, GameDaily BIZ has received confirmation from the retail sector that the PS3 will be dropped to $499 next week. Sony itself recently talked about "refining" the PS3 price. Now it appears to be happening."

$10K GBP is more like $20K USD.

The article is refering to NZ dollars.

10,000 New Zealand Dollar = 7,820.60 US Dollar.  IT'S A FIRE SALE!!!!!!

No, no, no. The article referes to 10,000 BP being worth 25,000 NZD.

Agreed, I still have no idea what will be so great about this game and why it's the Civ that Sid always wanted to make. I bet it has mini games, each discovery will require you to play a quick arcade game or your discovery is delayed 10 years.

And why not on the PC?!

I have recently gotten back into the PG/AG games and was wondering if there has been a freshening of the series, or if there is a new game out that has taken the mantle of the hex based WWII games.
jblank, there's a new game just released by Matrix called Commander: Europe at War.  I don't have it, but it seems that a lot of people who do are comparing it to Panzer General.  Might be worth taking a look at.  Also, there's another wargame by Matrix called  John Tillers Campaign series - that one I actually own, and so far I'm enjoying it quite a bit.  So you can take a look at those two, over at www.matrixgames.com

The game I was refering to above. Although the OO thread seems to be a bit negative and that maybe it isn't really PG at all.

There is a warhammer 40k tactical TBS coming out for PSP sometime early next year FYI-also, think of the PSP as being able to do all that stuff with games AND MORE-movies, tv shows, ps1 emu, music, etc.

That game is PSP and DS.

Having owned both, I would easily take my DS over the PSP, just better games out for it.

I never said it wasn't.

Well then, it's not a reason to get a PSP.

CK was causing trouble sure, but it's CK, don't we expect that from him?

If you are easily offended, or don't like the threads, don't look at them. They are pretty clearly labeled. You literally can't post things without offending someone somewhere. If those people are offended here (one of the tamest places on the net) then maybe they shouldn't be online at all.

I don't understand the cross some of you are trying to bear. (Please don't reply with the professionalism/"this is a gaming site" thing because I could point to a hundred threads for the former and the whole forum for the latter argument. It also seems that KD isn't allowed to post anything that maybe taken as offensive. I am sure his Creationist Museum thread offended at least 3 people I can think of.)

Etrian Odyssey, the Final Fantasies (and I believe a FF Tactics coming), Pokemon, Advanced Wars, a Zelda coming, Mario Brothers, Mario Cart just to name a few.

I will get a PSP again eventually since they do seem to have some good RPGs/tactic games coming, but there has yet to be a game that was a system seller for me.

2915  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: (XBL) Band of Bugs on: June 21, 2007, 01:09:18 AM
Just went through the trial. Its fun, but not sure if I will be buying it.

Graphics are ok, nothing special. Think that Dinsey movie about the bugs. Special effects are ok also. It doesn't blow you away but it looks decent. You can scroll the camera and zoom in and out, but I couldn't zoom in either direction as far as I would have liked.

Sound is kind of blah. The bug sound like they are speaking some of kind of asian language, and one of them was really annoying. Honestly I didn't pay attention to sound much since I have fans running all over the place.

Game play is standard tactical stuff. Move, then switch weapons, use an item/skill/spell, attack, or wait. Higher ground, flanking, etc gives you a bonus. The attack has a chance of a crit or weak damage, but usually does a set amount. Chances increase/decrease as you level.

One thing I didn't like is that it tells you which team gets to move a character when for the round. For instance it will show purple/blue/blue/purple. Purple teams starts the round and can move either of his charcters first, then the blue team gets to move his characters and then finally purple gets to move his other character. I would prefer that the characters speed determined when he got to move. As it is, there is strategy on who to move when, but I didn't like it done that way.

Missions in the trial were mostly kill all the enemies. There was a reach spot X and hold until the end of the round while wave after wave of enemies came in. Also there are egg holders. The last mission each team had an egg holder (weak combat unit, but seem strong against other egg holders). Kill the enemy egg holder and you get the egg which gives you a new character.

Characters level (the game doesn't tell you when they do), and their stats go up. I didn't get pick which skills to raise or anything. I didn't see any stores to buy new weapons or items from either. Maybe the full game has more in this respect. There are character classes, warrior, healer, rouge, archer appear in the demo.

Anyway, it's fun, but I would really like a lot more RPG elements before I would buy it.

If this is the first true JRPG on the 360 I cannot see it winning over many people who aren't JRPG fans already.

I don't think they care about them honestly. The game seemed like it's main purpose was to sell 360s in Japan.

I wouldn't mind seeing the JRPGs evolve a little, but I still love a good one.
