Hey, that's me! And finally someone ignored me! I was feeling left out.

Boy, I didn't see that punchline coming.  Nope, not in a million years.

Hehe, yeah I knew coming into this thread it would finish about how great Costco is.

The store manager wasn't be a dick Kobra, he was doing his job by following store policy. People could use such a liberal return policy to make money, so I would suspect a lot of retailers won't do it.

I return something maybe once a year, so I never really care about return policies, as long as they have one.

I got this about 3 weeks ago and still haven't installed it.  Is the game ripe for play yet or should I wait for further patches?  I hate starting an in-depth game, and then having a patch come in 1/2-way through.  Because I always restart full games when a patch is released... it's on OCD thing.

Everything I have read said it's buggy as hell (Kobra seems to be the only person who likes it on the forums I read). If the first one is any indication, there will never be a patch that fixes it.

I never ever felt overwhelmed in it myself. Theres some great guides on the official forums, I highly recommend them.   I thought it was pretty streamlined and refined myself - at least compared to most city builders.

It is very streamlined, and well done, don't get me wrong. I just can't get into it. I really want a pause and work command, without it, it feels too much like a RTS to me. I tried to go into the playground to learn everything, but they strip so much of the actual game mechanics out of it, there wasn't any point.

But I got bored with Caesar IV very quickly too, I guess I find dealing with modern cities more interesting. I am burned out on the whole chain of industries thing.

Just picked it up, I liked the demo, but I am having a hard time getting into the full game, and I am not sure why. It is a bit overwhelming, because there is a lot to do, and the pirates can be a bit pesky. My biggest complaint is I can't pause and and explore. You can pause, and scroll the map, but you can't tinker with anything or build anything. So watching my boats and a couple of settlements I feel like there is too much going on. I guess it's a bit too RTS for me.

I also think I am getting sick of builders. I couldn't get into Caesar IV either.

HD are so cheap nowadays M$ is really ripping us off if it's not standard. But still, I will probably get a new version eventually, need a 1080p TV first.

Roping is nuts, and something I never learned to master. You are right TML, it would be impossible (or at least very hard) with a controller.

I am still not sure what version of worms it is. Hoping and praying that it's one of the classic versions (like World Party) and not a 3D version.

As far as Live, I have really enjoyed it. It's lite games, but there has been some really enjoyable stuff on there.

Rumor I read on QT3 is that Worms is next week. If they do Worms World Party on Live, I have the only game I need on Live.

On the other hand, I played it so much on the PC, maybe I am burnt out on it. Still can't wait to see.

I am waiting for this.

You'd figure Sony would concentrate on getting their existing two models of PlayStation 3 into peoples homes before developing a third, but that isn't the case. Sony is looking to introduce a multimedia-oriented PlayStation 3 soon, designed to be a multimedia center rather than as a gaming console:

The “media-centric” PlayStation 3 will feature capabilities of consumer electronics devices and will be more focused on digital media content playback, rather than on gaming. Based on claims reportedly made by executives of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., PC Watch web-site reports that the PlayStation 3 “media-centric”-edition will feature anti-vibration mechanism on the Blu-ray disc drive, 512MB XDR memory, more advanced power supply unit and two HDMI connectors to divide audio and video data.
So what exactly makes this more attractive to someone not looking for a console but a media center instead? I'm not exactly sure, especially since the cost of this unit will be even greater than the existing consoles, and the article estimates it could be sold at $1600 or even higher. Personally, I think Sony should concentrate on other issues before expanding the scope of the already-troubled PS3.

Thanks to Qt3.

One thing about the games for the Wii, it's a new system. New systems never have the games. Every console I have owned goes through this initial dry spell. The 360 only just seems to be opening up to where there are a wide variety of games I want (please hurry up with Blue Dragon!). I really think we need to take a wait and see approach to it.

Quote from: Kobra on December 30, 2006, 06:17:14 PM

For me personally, I consider myself ethical, however given certain conditions or specifics, I can and do bend it but not to the extent it would be considered criminal. Labelling taking additional napkins "Theft" is pretty chimp.  For something to be a theft, it can't be "Free" if someone takes it, and there certainly aren't any signs saying "Take only 5 napkins".  Therefore, it fits into my ethical spectrum, and is slightly bent in my favor.  Now if there was a sign saying "Napkins are 5 for free, any addition are $1.00" and I took 500 of them, it would be unethical, and I wouldn't do it.

Is calling my cable company, or blockbuster online, and whining about their rates and threatening to cancel so I get uber-cheap subscription plans unethical?  I consider it smart business, I am not breaking any laws, and I am just using my negotiation and strongarm ability to save me money.  After all, they are giant corporations that spare no thought about taking money from customers, why should I play with gloves on?  I am sure some people would consider this unethical.

It's not necessarily unethical, it's just pathetic. You feel that since Taco Bell cut back on their meat (which I don't see myself) that you are some how one upping the corporation by taking a shit load of napkins is just weird. It's being cheap and vindictive to the point of being an embarrassment. Not to mention the minimum wage employees don't notice or care.

As far as strong arming your way to get cheaper rates, I have dealt with people like that. Don't be an asshole to the employee because you don't like their rates. Don't like the rates? Cancel the service.

It's not perfect no, but I find it fun. The back swing is a bit arcady I guess, but I also don't think it's hard to get the power I want in the shot. It bounces sure, but I just press the button when its where I want it. Not very realistic, but it works pretty good IMO.

2918  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Wii] Super Swing Golf impressions on: December 30, 2006, 04:43:51 AM
I think you are over thinking. No it's not smooth on the backswing, I don't see why it matters that much though. A full power swing is easy, and anything less than full you are estimating and it's not hard to get close enough power to get to the hole anyway. Just swing however you are comfortable.
