Do they come in microwavable sandwiches or just those meat clumps you have to pan fry? Ive always wanted some but could neve rever remember to buy some. Today I remembered but all I could find was stuff you pan heated and had to use your own bread. Is that the way they come?

You have always wanted one but you didn't even know what they were? Just the idea of a frozen product with the word steak in it's name got you excited?

The crosswords are ok save for 1 thing: the _ _ _ king stupid piece of _ _ it clues that exclude part of the word as if that's a real crossword clue.

I don't think I have seen one of these kind of clues in medium difficulty.

I have.

They almost make me hulk out every time.

Yep, you're right, guess I had just gotten used to them.

Scoring is kind of silly. I was actually stuck in a medium puzzle, and wanted to try out the help system. Got 3 minutes added, and I still got an A, just didn't get the + because I used help. Not that scoring matters much, but they could have put a little more effort into the game as a whole. Between weak scoring, some really bad clues, the sometimes absurd writing recognition, and a lack of a penciling in something lightly option, it could be a better game. Still a nice little game, just could have been better with a bit more effort.

Very fun little game. Only drawback so far has been the 2 laser levels. They don't really fit in, aren't very fun, and the controls suck because there is a slight pause after each firing of the laser.

Perhaps we should be celebrating WiiSports success instead.

Once people started to see commercials for the Wii on TV and it got out that I had one, I got tons of shit from my supervision at work. Has it effected me at work? Probably not, but I have very much gotten the idea that I am thought of as immature because of my gaming. For me a bigger problem has been the good ole boys network. I don't have anything to say about hunting, or 4-wheelers, so I haven't been able to bond with the bosses, because I was talking to the younger guys about gaming when other management was off talking about the deer they bagged.

Gaming isn't thought of as an adult hobby and it can definitely effect the way your co-workers see you.

I messed up there, there are 50 4x4s on easy.

For people who don't have it, each difficulty level (there are 4) has pages of puzzles. Easy has 10 pages of puzzles, Medium has 15 pages and I don't have the harder levels unlocked yet. Each page is the same though. 5 4x4s, 5 7x7s, Etc. So you finish a page, and then start all over with 4x4s on the next page. The smaller puzzles really do seem like a waste of time, especially after you just finnished some bigger puzzles so I am hoping the next higher difficultly levels skip the small stuff.
2368  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Crosswords DS impressions on: May 09, 2008, 01:33:34 AM
I didn't play the NY times one, so I can't compare, but this one is decent. 1000 puzzles, 300 word searches, and anagrams (not sure how many).

Crossword puzzles start off with 4x4 grids and gradually get bigger. 4x4s are boring and there are too many of them (75 of them on easy, 75 more on medium, but I haven't unlocked higher difficulty levels yet). When you finish a page of crosswords (20 puzzles) you unlock a larger themed puzzle for the page.  You also unlock more pages of puzzles as you do them. For instance you start off being able to do the first 5 pages of easy puzzles, but soon unlock 3 more pages. I did about 21 puzzles and clues do repeat a bit, but it's not too annoying so far.

Input is decent but not great. Sometimes you really wonder what the game was thinking. For instance when writing an S but you accidently put a dot on the screen as you wrote the S, it will recognize it as an i. If you write big and apply constant light pressure with the stylus it usually isn't a problem. Also it could be a bit faster to advance to the next letter as you are entering a word.

On easy it displays wrong letters in red, but you can turn this off in medium which makes it more fun. I do wish there was an option to lightly write something in until you are sure., I think this is the biggest drawback for me.

It grades you for each puzzle but I have yet to get less than A even on a puzzle I was stuck on. There are hints that add to your time, but I have yet to use one. The book says you earn diplomas and these are effected by the more help you use.

Word-searches come in 2 sizes, small and large. Small are great, but large is just too annoying having to scroll the screen to see the whole table.

Anagrams come in small (up to 4 letter words), medium (5), or large (6). You can shuffle your letters into a circle or lines and reshuffle them to get a fresh look with a tap of a button. It also doesn't clear the letters after you make a word so it's easy to substitute letters repeatedly without having to start from scratch. The anagram interface is very well done.

Overall I like it, I think it will be an excellent time waster when traveling or for short sprints.

There are plenty of YEC websites out there where you could get more "scientific" explanations of their beliefs.

Did you really just say that? There is nothing "scientific" about their beliefs whatsoever. Even what little know they do know about science they try to use as argument is destroyed by real scientists. It's quite amusing when PZ Myers actually prints some of their emails and then tears them apart.

I still think the Wii-love is greatly overblown.  They're selling a lot of consoles, but virtually everyone I know who bought one purchased 1 or 2 games to start and never bought anything else.  I think a lot of them are gathering dust.  However, that data is only my 3rd-hand experience and may not be typical.

My thoroughly researched findings so far:  Those with kids love their Wii's.  Kidless Wii'ers have their systems gathering dust.

As a kidless Wii'er, I have to disagree with statement. I play the Wii more than the 360.

Thanks guys, and shuddup Ed and MHS. smile I have a tattoo, and that didn't bug me hardly at all. I can take shots and I am fine as long as I don't look. Combination of a needle staying in my arm in blood coming out just drives me nuts (just thinking about it sends chills down my spine). I tell myself before hand it's nothing, that everyone does it fine and that I am just being stupid. It's not the pain, there really isn't any, it's knowing that my blood is being drained or something. I never saw sight of a needle today, and even if I did they couldn't get any blood out when they tried.

I have had to do this once a year for the last 17 years and while I stress I usually make it through fine. This time it was the whole double stick thing, and he was telling me he couldn't find veins to use, and that he was going to try a different needle. I couldn't stop thinking of it.

I have to try again later in the week, I will try drinking a ton of water this time so maybe they can find a vein easier. I was really dehydrated this morning, hardly ate all weekend, and was going on about 8 hours of sleep since Friday.

I just passed out while trying to give blood for a cholesterol check. I always panic and feel light headed, but this time after 2 attempts they still couldn't get any out of me and at this point I passed out. Woke up with 3 people holding me back yelling my name to calm down. I thought I was dreaming and it took a few seconds to even realize where I was. Needless to say I am pretty embarrassed by the whole thing.

Anyone have any idea on how to deal to deal with this so it doesn't happen again? I freak out over blood and needles, so I don't watch, and I warn the tech so they talk me through it and make sure. It didn't help that this time I hardly ate all weekend due to food poisoning, but I had to fast 12 hours anyway. Just knowing what they are doing is enough to freak me out though.

I never had stomach pain, it just won't settle.

BTW KD, a book that the hospital gave me that describes home treatments says to try ice chips to get water and that you don't need to go to the doctor as long as it doesn't last more than 72 hours (assuming you don't have stomach pain). Once you can keep food down eat bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. If the diarrhea persists more than 96 hours, go to the doctors. (All this assumes there isn't blood or pain, and that you keep as hydrated as possible.)

I am about a day ahead of you KD. Friday I ate a chicken burrito from Chipotles, about 30 minutes later I threw it all up. I couldn't keep anything down for the next 20 hours or so, not even a sip of water. Two days later I can eat, barely, and everything coming out of me is a nice bright yellow liquid (sorry). I can function fine for the most part, just only slightly miserable at this point. smile Playing with the idea of going to the doctor tomorrow for this, but I may try to ride it out.

Hope you feel better quicker than I do. It seems a lot of people get better in about 24 hours.

That's kind of neat, I wasn't sure non-soccer fans would like the ad. It is even better when you know all the players, some living legends in it (at least in the soccer world).

I don't track soccer at all, but I recognized a face and a name or two but there are like five variations of ronaldino ronaldo ronado rontando etc who are/were famous so I can't keep em straight.

Could you list who's in it- don't take too much time on it- but it'd be neat to know.

Sure thing.

First scene I don't know who the teams are, or any of the players. But after you score the goal and you look toward the line, that is Arsene Wenger looking at you. Manager (head coach) of Arsenal for 11 years. In English soccer being a coach for more than 2 years isn't very common.

First game you come on as as sub for William Gallas (the black guy with the mohawk), Arsenal French central defender who used to play for Chelsea. Probably not real famous outside of Europe. Arsenal is playing Manchester United, probably the most well known sports team in the world. The next player you see is Wayne Rooney (the guy they show kicking the ball in slow motion), very well known English striker.

He kicks the ball to Cristiano Ronaldo, Portuguese Striker and probably the most well known player in soccer (not to be confused with the aging Brazilian striker Ronaldo who is very well known for the 2002 World Cup). Ronaldo scores and squats in front of you, the guy is cocky as hell and is probably one of the best players in the world. Pretty much everyone hates him except for Man U or Portuguese national team fans.

I can't tell who the other Arsenal players are in the training clip, it goes to quick and I would guess most are just extras.

Next game I can't tell who they are playing. I was wrong above, Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas is running with the ball, passes to another player who crosses to you and you score. Can't tell you who that player is with the motion cam. Fabregas is a new up and coming Spanish attacking midfielder. He's still only something like 20 but everyone wants him. That is Fabregas again who kisses you.

Next game you are playing Inter Milan, one of the best teams in the world (English teams play other countries teams in a tournament called the UEFA Champions League). The guy pushing you in the face is Marco "Matrix" Materazzi, Italian defender. He is best known for when he pissed off French player Zinedine Zadane in the last world cup, Zadane head butted him in retaliation.

The guy who scores and laughs at you is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Swedish striker. Another player up there in the running for best in the world, and I always thought he was a bit of an ass, like Ronaldo he's pretty cocky.

Next team is Barcelona FC, another one of the top clubs in the world. The first guy you shake hands with is Rafael Marquez, Mexican defender. Can't tell you anything about him because I don't really follow Spanish soccer since I don't get GolTV.

Ronaldinho is the next player the camera focuses on in line, the one who doesn't look at you. Brazilian attacking midfielder/striker. Used to be considered the best player in the world, but since he got to Spain the rumors are that he is concentrating more on women and drinking than he is on soccer. He rarely even starts anymore for Barca and I believe he is going to Inter next season. The guy is still amazing to watch though.

In the Barca game clip, Marquez intercepts your pass to I don't know who and gets it to Ronaldinho who gets by Gilberto first (Brazilian defensive midfielder approaching the end of his carreer) and then everyone else. Fabregas again at the end getting mad at you for blowing it.

I didn't recognize the player who you de-pants, Arsenal is a big team that has a lot of young up and coming talent.

In the Portugal/Netherlands tie I can't tell you much. Ronaldo is in there again, and Ruud van Nistelrooy is the guy who helps you up (Dutch Real Madrid striker).

I don't get what makes this ad so great?  It was nauseating at times, especially when he was running the steps.  I will confess that I am not a soccer fan, it is about as exciting to watch as paint drying, but the choice of sport aside it just was all a bit strange to me and motion sickness inducing.  That and if I didn't already know it was a Nike ad, I would have had no clue what was being advertised.

For me its got a few things going for it.

The story, first and foremost. You follow a player from the lower ranks, to getting signed to a big team, and the defeats and successes that go with it. I thought it was very entertaining for a commercial.

It's well shot, especially on in HDTV. I got a feeling what it must be like to be down on the field and in the middle of the action against some of the biggest stars in soccer. That is why I put the soccer label on the thread. I think people who know the sport would appreciate the commercial more because of all the stars in it. What it must look like to have Materazzi pushing you in the face, Ronaldo mocking your inexperience, or receiving a cross from Fabregas in a high speed attack. These guys have amazing skills and seeing them as if you were in the game with them was pretty cool for me.

Not to mention the ad scores huge points for focusing on the best team in England, despite their failures. smile

You are right you wouldn't know it's a Nike commercial, but the Swish is everywhere in it. It's very subtle, which makes it even better because it isn't in your face

Good point. Also the chance of Gallas coming off for a striker are just about nil. Even if Arsenal needed more attacking power, Gallas wouldn't be the one coming off. I got the impression the player is an attacking midfielder.
