2361  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Panzer Tactics DS on: November 12, 2007, 03:21:59 PM
I am hoping it's not like Adavaned Wars at all. AW has a puzzle feel to it, you need the right commander with the right units done in the correct sequence to win it. I am hoping for a more free form game where there is no right way to finish a mission.

Quote from: Frogstar on November 12, 2007, 02:51:02 PM

Here's another example.  A few weeks ago, I read a forum post where the poster, applauding Panzer Tactics' potential superiority over other military sims, said something to this effect: "I've waited years for a turn-based military sim that uses a hex-based map instead of the grid crap!  That really opens things up in terms of strategy."

I'm not certain what that means.  But I do know that the hexes used in Panzer Tactics are not exciting to me.  In fact, had I not read that post, I don't know that I would have ever thought about them at all.

Hexes provide a more realistic movement than squares is all. It takes 2 steps to move diagonal in a square based system compared to 1 for a hex system for example. Any serious wargame uses hexes. I still doubt that this game is too indepth, but hopefully it's a a good Panzer General II knock off.

just keep on repeating to yourself Crysis, Crysis, Crysis......

Silly. The only way to show the company that you don't like their fees is not to pay them. A petition isn't going to do anything. If no one signs up for it, it will get dropped, but people are quite willing to sign up for it from what I have read, so it's not going anywhere.

Agreed, but isn't that actually the normal way of way of eating steak in the civilized world? Any one who really likes food wouldn't have it done any other way. You wouldn't know the difference between a good steak and a bad one if you have to burn all the juices/fat out of it to eat it.

I dunno man.  The amount of people I see order it the wrong way is pretty damn astounding.

gellar

Don't make me post pictures of tapeworms.  I'll do it if I must.

Feel free, post away. You are more likely to get food poisoning from a number of things before you would get tapeworms from a steak. Their is no real rationale to your argument. It's the same with the whole "bloody" thing. It's not blood coming out of your steak.

A steak is considered a good cut because of its marbled fat content, it's tenderness, and it's juiciness. If you order a steak well down it removes all 3 of those things. You might as well order the cheapest sirloin you can if you want your steak well done.

I have a general Wii question: Do Wii games benefit from HD sets, or should I play it on my SD set? I've noticed some PS2 games can look not as great on larger HD sets (I have a 42" LCD), I'm wondering if it's the same situation for the Wii @ 480p?

Yes games look better (with the proper cable) on an HDTV in 480p. They don't look 360/PS3 good, but they look 100x better than PS2 games do on a HD set.

I was thinking the exact same thing. The only thing I really care about is the Daily Show and Colbert and I hate the thought of going so long without them. Otherwise I couldn't care less about the over paid industry (although I hope the Office and 30 Rock survive this).

Christians don't really get made fun of. Fanatical Christians get made fun of. Its no different than the many Christians I have heard talk down about Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, or atheists. They may not publicly mock them or make Youtube videos about it, but the holier than thou attitude is still there. I just don't buy this whole "Christians are persecuted in this country" thing that you so often see on forums like this.

Secondly, I read that they have a 65 nm chip and are much more power efficient than the old PS3's and that they are even quieter.

According to Bill Harris:

Quote
First off, the reports that the 40GB PS3 are using 65nm chips are incorrect. Sony confirmed to Heise Online (thanks Engadget) that the 90nm CPU is still being used. However, Sony also confirmed that the design had been updated to consume significantly less power--from 180-200 watts originally to 120-140 now. That's extremely impressive, and it should make the new unit significantly quieter.

This generation of consoles really can't support 1080p,  Technically, that's like asking your current PC to run at 1920x1080 resolution at high detail settings.  To get that you'd need a $1000+ PC at the very least.

Regarding the camera, you can easily see what the enemy is doing by cycling through your soldiers during the computer's turn using the shoulder buttons. The camera will shift to each unit very quickly, giving you some fairly solid situational awareness. You can also hit the "select" button and watch a satellite view of all known enemy movement.

Yeah I was using the map. Switching between soldiers with L/R is not acceptable in my opinion, way too much is going on. You hear gun fire, by the time you are viewing the soldier who got hit, it's too late and you are hearing gun fire someplace else and trying to switch views to find out who and where. If your guys are all close together I guess it would be fine, but my guys were spread out all over the place

Quote
Regarding how to set your soldier's facing:  Simply press and hold the O button over your selected unit. Move the d-pad in the direction you wish them to face while holding the O button. The soldier will rotate his facing accordingly without moving. Once you are happy with his cone of view, tap the O button to confirm.

Ah cool, thanks.

I loved the demo, but it locked up on my PSP once. First time every for a PSP game. Considering this is a demo and not the actual UMD I'll give them a pass. This is now a first day purchase for me, but with only 15 SP missions I'm wondering how long the fun will last.

No problems there, worked fine. To be fair, I did enjoy the game and I have a feeling the demo is just a quick tutorial battle missing the RPG elements (please let that be it). I can live with using the overhead map to track the enemies turns, even though an automatic jump to action option would make a lot more sense. The lack of a fully rotatable camera is unexcusable though.

I want Chaos Gate on the PSP damnit.
