Having 35% of the population with debt in collections is a staggeringly high number.  The more interesting question to me is how and why folks are in so much debt.  Catastrophic bills (i.e. medical)?  Unemployed or underemployed?  Simply not living within their means?  What's the largest culprit?

I would guess living beyond their means. I know numerous people that have a LOT of stuff and nice cars and nice house and I know they probably do not make much more than me. I wonder how they do it and can only imagine a good portion of their income goes to monthly payments of debt.

I'd be curious to see mine these days. I remember about 10 years ago when I was buying a car from Nissan and I told them I wanted their 1.9% interest deal, they said that was reserved for people with excellent credit ratings, which I thought was kind of an asshole-ish thing to say to your customer but when he checked my rating I had an 815 score and was offered 0% interest.  Tongue

I text. I have unlimited family texting for $30 month that covers all 4 phones. If I got data plans for all 4 phones that would be $100+ dollar extra per month. No thanks. I pay for a data plan for my daughters phone and that is it.

What I am looking for is an organization that has less rules and will enforce it's rules fairly. NCAA currently does not do that.
7  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: College Football 2013 kickoff on: September 01, 2013, 01:05:46 AM
Bama victorious 35-10 but the O looked bad. I know V TEch has a good defense so I guess we will see if Bama's new offensive line just needs a lot of work or if V Tech D line is just that good.

It's a horrible, corrupt organization that does far more harm than good.

I cannot disagree with that but the rules are the rules and it is sickening that he didn't get punished a little more severe for an obvious violation. Bama got a much much more sever punishment a few years back when the student athletes got extra school books and gave them to other students. I hate the NCAA due to their selective punishment which makes them appear even more corrupt. I'm waiting for the big conferences to ditch the NCAA and form their own organization.

TAMU has some discipline problems.    I suspected as much from them not clamping down on Johnny's issues (even before the autographs).    Today it comes out that they've suspended 8 players for various reasons.   Wow

And Johnny is a dick. His attitude on the field is obnoxious. I cannot wait for Bama to shut him up. Roll Tide!

Unfortunately, I'm not sure the current WW game would notice a 2 month rollback.  We might lose what - 5 or 6 posts?

my mother-in-law has a weak stomach. I didn't know this when I first got married and at dinner one night she made fried chicken. I bit into a leg and got one of those stringy veins in my bite and it was hanging out of my mouth. My wife pointed it out and I pulled it out of my mouth and I said, "I'll save this so I can floss with it later."
My MIL gets up from the table and returns later. I thought she went to the bathroom and she did but my wife informed me later that she went and puked because of my comment.

14  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Things that make you want to puke. on: August 29, 2013, 06:57:50 PM
sometimes when I brush my tongue, I go a little too far and I gag but never puked though. A few of my kid's diapers in the early days got me to gag but I got over that quickly.

I can't think of anything that has ever made me puke other than being sick so I guess that is my answer...illness.

Did you get approved?  I am having a hard time remembering screen names with real names that are listed on the FB page.  If you pulled your request to join, try it again.  At first, it was admin approval only, but I opened it up so that any other member could approve new members.  Hopefully, you aren't an online axe murderer.

My team is currently still number one after soundly thumping Auburn.  We have a bye next week and then we take on msduncan's Bama for what should be the BCS title, but unfortunately, because one team will lose, teams less deserving will be able to get to the BCS championship to play for the actual title.  I've been an LSU fan all my life and have seen a lot of teams over that time.  This year's team has been pretty amazing in that we usually like to try to lose the game near the end of it.  Even our recent 2003 and 2007 BCS Champion teams weren't putting the hurt on other SEC teams like we've done this year. Anyway, Geaux Tigers!

and my team is currently ranked #2. It should be an epic battle. Glad it's in T-town this year. Roll Tide!

I'll probably drop streaming due to the lack of new movies. I may cancel it all and use the local rental boxes but not enthused about that option. I'd love for on-demand to be cheaper but at $5 a movie then Netflix is the better deal. I really miss my local video stores.

Often thought now would be the time for the local mom and pop video store to make a come back. All the huge corps are going out of business and there is a demand for this service from a lot who have no internet access (poor and many seniors).

A family rented a local Movie gallery after it closed and renamed it Family Video. It stays very busy but it's a bit out of my way.

I'm here and ok.  All of my family members that live here are ok.  Day 3 without power in Huntsville.  This is the first time I've gotten to use my cell to get online to post anything...  Verizon finally got back up.  I know some gas stations are open throughout all of north Alabama but with 2-3 hour wait lines!  I've heard we got emergency crews from all surrounding states.  Huntsville and Crestwood hospital both have power.  I work for Huntsville Utilities and we've been here for the last 2 days trying to do whatever we can.  I work for the Gas dept so not much I can do.  I know our electric guys are running constant rotating 12 hours shifts!  Don't know about other counties, but there's a dusk till dawn curfue in Madison county.  I finally got to access some news about the damage in other counties on my phone this morning.  I'll try to get back on here later and update anything if needed.
wow, a fellow Huntsvillian. We got our power back Sunday night in Hazel Green. Thanks for the hard work. Been out helping friends cut up trees. Kids finally went back to school today but Marshall Space Flight Center still doesn't have all it's power so I'm off one more day.
