This thread is beneath GTers. It really is.

Speaking as someone who has no interest in purchasing either one at the moment...

I'm disappointed that the PS4 doesn't seem to support MP3s or media servers. Especially the latter is an important part of my living room experience. It's not a worse problem for me than to just boot up my PS3 instead when I need to use a media server, but with the improved CPU and network support, I was hoping that it would work.

Yeah, that's a big no go for me.  No DLNA == no sale.  Hopefully it's just an oversight.

plus some of the $60 games that were decent but not quite AAA may have sold more during the initial release period had they been $40.

I'd argue that that already happens, especially around this time of year.  Amazon and other retailers will drop prices pretty quickly on new games that aren't selling particularly well.  Whether that's a more successful strategy than coming out the gate at $50 or $40, I dunno.

You're not alone.  Even before getting to the original ending, I felt 3 was missing much of the magic of the first two.

Edit:  That being said, there *are* a handful of great scenes that are worth seeing.

Yeah, we're getting hit with 9.25% sales tax on Amazon purchases starting Jan 1.  First NewEgg, now Amazon - pah.

Don't know if many people here still use Fitocracy, but their latest update is royally screwed.  The site/apps are virtually unusable at the moment.

Put in my numbers for this morning, gained over 4700 points and a dozen new achievements.  I knew I had broken some PRs, but I'm pretty sure I didn't bench press 500+ lbs.

My first order in 2000 was a big 'un... $569 for a Playstation 2 Family Fun Pack, PS2 DVD remote, and a PS2 memory card.  Not sure what the "Family Fun Pack" consisted of... probably an extra controller and some games.

I've made it known that I wouldn't say no to a new console for Christmas, but the odds of that happening are slim.  But I'm not particularly chomping at the bit for either one right now.

I don't love the album as much as I thought I would (though it is pretty good).  Regardess, the fact that one of the most popular electronica acts essentially created a love letter to 70s soul does my heart good.

Been waiting for Okami HD to go on sale, so I'll definitely grab that one.

Is Remember Me worth $14, or would it be better to wait for a Steam sale?

Nice! I never got to play the original (but played and finished the second one), so this will be a good chance to catch up. Sort of a shame about the missing voice files though, but maybe it's for the better? I know Tim Curry is great, but this game was made in a different time with different expectations of voice actors. Would most of them even hold up to today's standards?

Probably not, but that opening scene in the bookstore is burned into my memory.  Watching that with different voices will be a (minor) disappointment.  Otherwise I'm looking forward to it.

I hope it's a success and they remake the second one (my favorite of the three).

In-home Streaming
You can play all your Windows and Mac games on your SteamOS machine, too. Just turn on your existing computer and run Steam as you always have - then your SteamOS machine can stream those games over your home network straight to your TV!

My favorite part... you could have a relatively low-powered box sitting under your TV and stream locally from your gaming rig in another room.

Or I could just play the game on my gaming rig.

What's the point of this thing? Because I don't see it.

*shrug* I prefer playing on the couch on a big TV for a number of reasons.  Having access to my entire Steam library in the living room sounds great.

1920x1200 has been a standard gaming res for nearly a decade - shouldn't have any problems there.  I've had a Dell 2405FPW at that res since 2005 - The 2-3 games I've encountered that max out at 1920x1080 simply have slight letterboxing on the top and bottom.  If for whatever reason I have to drop the resolution lower than that, 1280x800 works fine... the picture gets slightly soft, but nothing egregious.

109  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Looking for feedback : Video reviews on: August 24, 2013, 01:02:02 AM
I agree with wonderpug about the intro length.  I'm sure someone spent a lot of time creating it, but it's simply too long. It would be much better at 5 seconds - 10 seconds tops.  Just about every credible online video expert I've read/heard emphasized the need to get straight to the content as quickly as possible due to short attention spans.

Otherwise, they're well done.  Just don't let them replace the text reviews... I'm much more likely to read a 1000 word review than sit through a 5 minute video.
110  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What D&D character are you? on: August 19, 2013, 10:12:06 PM
Neutral Good Human Bard/Cleric (3rd/2nd Level)

Ability Scores:
Strength- 14
Dexterity- 16
Constitution- 15
Intelligence- 15
Wisdom- 14
Charisma- 11

Neutral Good- A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment when it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.

Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Primary Class:
Bards- Bards often serve as negotiators, messengers, scouts, and spies. They love to accompany heroes (and villains) to witness heroic (or villainous) deeds firsthand, since a bard who can tell a story from personal experience earns renown among his fellows. A bard casts arcane spells without any advance preparation, much like a sorcerer. Bards also share some specialized skills with rogues, and their knowledge of item lore is nearly unmatched. A high Charisma score allows a bard to cast high-level spells.

Secondary Class:
Clerics- Clerics act as intermediaries between the earthly and the divine (or infernal) worlds. A good cleric helps those in need, while an evil cleric seeks to spread his patron's vision of evil across the world. All clerics can heal wounds and bring people back from the brink of death, and powerful clerics can even raise the dead. Likewise, all clerics have authority over undead creatures, and they can turn away or even destroy these creatures. Clerics are trained in the use of simple weapons, and can use all forms of armor and shields without penalty, since armor does not interfere with the casting of divine spells. In addition to his normal complement of spells, every cleric chooses to focus on two of his deity's domains. These domains grants the cleric special powers, and give him access to spells that he might otherwise never learn. A cleric's Wisdom score should be high, since this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast.

I've owned all of them, finished 1, 3, and 4.

I remember the sales dude at Babbages rolling his eyes when I was there before the store opened the day WC3 came out.  Of course, my 486 at the time was woefully inadequate for the task, so I had to wait until I got a Pentium to actually play it at a decent framerate.

Ultima 5 was my introduction to the series and RPGs as a genre - I made significant progress, but never finished it.

I've beaten 1, 6, 7, and Underworld.  In addition to 5, I've gotten close to finishing Serpent Isle, 8 and 9.  Dabbled with the rest (including Escape from Mt. Drash)

Edit:  following Usenet discussions leading up to the release of Ultima 9 is how I ended up at Gone Gold, and eventually here.

My current ride has a single cd in the dash, and a factory installed cd changer in the back.  Haven't used either more than a handful of times - in fact I don't think either works anymore. I've used iPhone -> aux in jack for music since the day I got the car.

My MIL has a 2007 car with a tape deck, believe it or not.

I just started wearing a watch again a few months ago. I have one watch that I save for special occasions where I need to dress up. I have another watch for more normal occasions.

Needless to say, knowing the time has very little to do with why I like wearing a watch. It's an accessory for me, which is incredibly odd because I usually don't care much about fashion. Example A: I'm currently at work wearing jeans with a hole in the crotch.

I haven't worn a watch since the 90s, but lately I have been trying to punch up my style, and having a nice watch is part of my plan.  Haven't bought one yet, but hopefully soon.
