4481  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Anyone here have total shoulder reconstruction surgery? on: December 13, 2004, 05:35:12 PM
A girl I've been dating is a gymnastics coach, and apparently a lot of injuries are occupational hazards - she's had total shoulder reconstruction, and the said it was between 4-6 months recovery time.... I don't have much info other than that.

4487  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Where to find an 8MM movie projector? on: December 09, 2004, 07:16:56 PM
Something else to think about - I had about an hour of 8mm movies transferred to DVD by a guy in Chicago - he did a great job, and was much less expensive than all the other places I checked...  quick turnaround too.  He did color correction and image restoration that simply playing them on an 8mm projector won't do.

Now it does.  For those of us that bought PS2s between 2000 and last year, it's another $50.

And the HD is only used for one game, isn't it?

NOW it is - since they've chopped it from the PSTwo, you can be sure no one else will support it.    I'm betting a lot of people were willing to shell out the $$$ for FFXI because they thought the hardware would be used more in the future.  Sony to consumers:  PSYCHE!!!11

If you haven't had the game for that long, perhaps you could try returning it to the store? Let me know you can't even play the game because it requires an internet connection which you don't have. Tell them you were mislead by the box.

Which would be a lie, as it clearly states on the box "Internet Connection Required".  Not "recommended", but "required".

Holy Crap -

Yeah, I worshipped at the altar of Pantera for a year or two in the early 90s... even got to hang out with them and White Zombie early on during the Vulgar Display of Power tour.  Still have my signed backstage pass somewhere...
RIP Darrel.

I actually think Charlie Brown Christmas is boring. The music is great, but the actual show is just a snoozefest. I thought that when I was a kid too, so it's not just an adult thing for me.

That's why I like it so much.  It's the antithesis of the Christmas season in many ways - it's low-key and quiet, unlike the high-stress, high-pressure hurry that threatens to crush us mere mortals during December.  There's plenty of OMG XMAS SANTA COMING!!!!11 specials - Charlie Brown is a nice change of pace.

Exactly.  One thing I was disappointed in last night though was the second 1/2 hour.   It did a decent job of maintaining the spirit, but I really hated the 'quick-cut' storyboarding.  It was rather jarring after the pacing of the original.  It appears as if it was done in 2002 or so, after Schulz passed.

Yeah, there have been a couple of "sequels".... on the DVD, there is a second show which was made in the mid 80s, and it just doesn't compare.  It's OK, but lacks the magic of the original.

Yeah, not a bad post up there, but it could use some paragraphs.

First of all what difference does it make and how does that have any relevance to the topic?  Secondly, a paragraph is started when a new thought or idea or topic is broached. Not for appearance or to suit somebody else who doesn't have a clue what should be where to start with. I will tell you the same I used to tell some of my mentally challenged college professors. You can't tell me how to punctuate MY sentence, nor when to paragraph MY thoughts. It tells much more about your own failings that you try than anything in regard to myself. How about we stick to the topic at hand?

If you want people to take your ideas seriously, you need to put them down in a manner that is easily readable.  We have grammar rules for a reason.

Nope... I have GTA 3 & VC for the Xbox (and I'm not a big fan of the franchise); I don't really care for platformers - I've played a little of the Jak/Ratchet games, and they just don't appeal to me; while Katamari Damacy is neat, it's not something I see myself hanging on to indefinitely.

Actually, I'm pretty close to that point with my PS2 and Gamecube... unless they're exclusive AAA titles, I buy everything for the Xbox these days.  With that being said, here's what I'll probably save (barring any end-of-life bargain bin purcahses):

GC:
Metroid Prime
Resident Evil
Resident Evil Zero
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

PS2:
Uhh...

Man, I'm having a hard time thinking of *any* game I must keep for the Playstation.  Actually, I imagine my PS2 will find it's way to eBay before long.

That is one of the crappy things about the XBox. The PS2 does do a progressive output for the DVD's. Why the hell did Microsoft cripple the Xbox?

The PS2 didn't have progressive DVD output until the last major revision (not the PSTwo, the revision that removed the i.link connector)

Maybe they don't go to "Sent" until they are read by the recipient?  I was wondering that too, so that was the best guess I had.

I sent a test message to myself and this does seem to be the case.  The message moved from my Outbox to the Sentbox after I opened it from the Inbox.

Yep - it stays in your Outbox until the recipient reads it, then it's moved to Sentbox.

4512  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Why the hell would you take this stuff? on: November 30, 2004, 05:16:31 AM
Like Punisher said, the side effects don't affect everyone - usually just a very small %... for example, Propecia (the hair-loss-stopping pill) can cause decreased sex drive, but only in 1-2% of the men who use it.

That's ridiculously cheap for a laptop - if price is your biggest concern, go for it.

Ivan Sulik (who used to be on IGN PC if I remember) has his additional comments on Page 4 of the review and he really rails into the game and how disappointed he is in it.

That sucks - he seems to confirm the fears of myself and others that the changes to appeal to a broader audience only take away from what made the first one so good.

Actually, yeah - the town I grew up in was/is famous for their "Mule Day" parade in early April - 200,000+ people show up in this town of 30,000 every spring for the parade.  It's actually pretty nice - bring a blanket and stretch out in one of the yards of the antibellum homes that are along the parade route.  Only problem is, as the name implies, there are a lot of mules/horses/donkeys and all the mess that goes along with that.

History lesson - most of our presidents have at least claimed to be "born-again Christians".  Bush is not an anomaly.

And Apollo - is there some reason a person can't be a Christian, yet "laid back easy going?"  That describes the majority of my friends - who happen to be Christians as well.  Try not to paint us with such a broad brush, kthxbai biggrin
