:sigh: my saves are on PC. This series stays there for that reason alone.

I've got a bajillion hours in it. Not retreading. Got enough to play on my console.

You could transfer BL1 saves between pc and PS3 via third party utilities.  No idea about other platforms/games, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could.
3  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: New Year's Eve: How as your 2014? on: January 04, 2015, 11:01:05 PM
I'm ready for 2015; 2014 was way too stressful for my liking.

- Bought a new house that's significantly larger and on the "right" (read: snobby) side of town.
- Knocked it up a couple of notches at work, dramatically raised my standing among coworkers.
- Got my biggest raise to date at the end of the year.
- Played more paying gigs this year than any previous year, got some nice complements from semi/formerly- famous musicians.
- (TMI warning) Sex life with the wife is back to pre-kids level.  It was pretty abysmal there for a while.
- Another decent year health-wise. 11.5 years in remission from cancer, minor heart scare in November proved to be nothing.

- The home selling & buying process was incredibly stressful due to idiots on both sides of the equation, didn't get nearly as much as we should have for our previous house.
- Wife dealt with crippling depression throughout a large chunk of the year.
- Due to all the various stresses and a rotator cuff injury, I'm at my heaviest since 2007. Nothing I can't shed before summer, but still frustrating.
- Found out my mom has cancer.  It's something that should be able to be held at bay indefinitely, but she'll never be rid of it.

My goals for 2015 are to find a better job and see my wife get the help she needs for her depression.

120gb SSD is going to get cramped pretty quickly; considering how much prices have fallen this year, I'd at least go for something in the 240-256 range.
5  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: upgrade xbox 360 game to xbox one on: December 26, 2014, 05:00:16 PM
Unless explicitly stated by the publisher (and that is very rare), you need to buy the One version, even if you have the 360 version.

I think activision announced a trade up program for advanced warfare, but I can't find the article at the moment

8  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: It's Almost Thanksgiving (USA! USA!), What's your GOTY? on: November 30, 2014, 03:28:23 AM
I'm still mainly working on titles from a couple of years ago, but I did pick up Wolfenstein last week and it's my front-runner.  So far, a great throwback shooter with enough modern touches. More serious than I would expect from a Wolfenstein title, but not without it's moments of levity:

Fuck you moon."

The mini blades on the hilt just look like a really good way to accidentally slice your own arm off.  Though I suppose it's a decent enough way to jazz up a lightsaber at this point.

The shots of X-Wings and the Falcon flying around close to the ground were cool but I hope there's actually, y'know, battles in space. Seeing as it's called "Star Wars" and all. But I realize we're only seeing a very small glimpse of the final product.
10  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: How do you use your tablet on: November 15, 2014, 03:44:37 PM
I use it for testing mobile app builds for work.  That's about it - between my 5s and laptop, I really have no day-to-day use for a tablet.

12  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Do you buy DVDs anymore? on: August 21, 2014, 04:17:28 PM
I don't buy individual titles anymore, but I'll still spring for inexpensive blu-ray collections... Got all of the x-men/wolverine movies (excluding DoFP) for $30 not too long ago.
13  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: How rough is your family on their phones? on: August 11, 2014, 05:23:29 PM
My wife isn't rough on her phones/electronics, but she is careless.  I've lost count of the number of times I've seen her open laptop perched precariously on the arm of the couch, unattended.  Practically daring the two year old to run by and knock it to the ground.
14  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Hypochondriac on: August 09, 2014, 08:55:32 AM
I've dealt with it for 15 odd years.  After my dad died of cancer at a young age, I started freaking out over getting it myself, imagining symptoms I didn't actually have. What really messed with my head was when I actually did get cancer in '03.  So now I have to deal with sorting out the real feelings from the fake ones... usually if I'm under a great deal of stress, it's a safe bet that it's just the hypochondria acting up, and not an actual physical problem (though it certainly feels real at the time).

Have you thought about seeing a psychiatrist or counselor?  Hypochondria is usually tied to some sort of anxiety/panic disorder.  I was on SSRIs (Zoloft/Paxil/etc) for a while to help deal with it, but personally I wouldn't go that route again.  Some sort of cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) would probably be more helpful.

Such a bizarre turn of events.  After nearly 20 years of estrangement between him and McMahon, they make nice in time for him to be inducted into the HoF, make peace with other wrestlers he had heat with, give a speech on RAW about his own mortality, then keels over the next day.

He must've known something was up - when he made his entrance on RAW, he was barely able to do his trademark shaking of the ring ropes, which any moderately healthy person should be able to do effortlessly.

I enjoyed part 2 far more than part 1 (which I did not like at all....), and thought it was interesting how they tied the events from Bioshock and Infinite together.  At the same time, it made me realize how much I did not like Infinite's setting.

that sounds like a sure fire way to get screwed out of game selling by people renting them at your loss.

I've had that happen to me only once over the years, though I've heard some nasty stories from other sellers.

According to Amazon, you can charge up to a 50% restock fee for non-defective returns:

...and used games and software are not eligible for returns based on their own return policies:

Now, I don't know what will happen if the buyer presses the issue.  But I've sold a *lot* of games on Amazon, and only seen one person attempt abuse the system.
28  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Re: Amazon Marketplace - Anyone Been a Seller? on: March 12, 2014, 01:33:07 AM
I've sold probably 200+ items on amazon marketplace over the past 5 years.  Overall it's been a positive experience... The only qualm I have is amazons very liberal return policy.  Buyers can return anything for any reason, and the seller doesn't have much, if any, recourse if the buyer decided to press the issue .
29  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [xbox 360]Games with Gold on: March 10, 2014, 09:06:26 PM
I don't see a way for MS to offer something similar to Sony's instant library, without making it contingent on maintaining an active subscription.

There's tens of millions of Xbox 360 owners who don't have Gold subscriptions, and lots of 48 hour codes floating around out there.  If MS *were* to do the insane thing and offer a dozen (or even a few) free recent-ish games that don't require an active subscription, you can imagine what would happen.

I'm sure there's some sort of middle ground - they just haven't found it yet.

I've never seen a show turn on a dime like Heroes did after that first season.  The writer's strike certainly didn't help, but damn.

Hopefully they can learn from their mistakes, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I still don't get all the Bioshock Infinite hate, most of which I've heard from press. It was my GOTY last year and I couldn't stop playing it once I started, and pondered the ending for days after I completed it.

I certainly didn't hate Infinite; I enjoyed it and played it to completion. I think the problem was unrealistic expectations from the audience.  The original Bioshock was one of those games where everything just clicked, and the whole was greater than the sum of its parts.  Infinite's "parts" were all well done and polished to the nth degree, but it never transcended those parts like the original did.  And I think that's what most people were expecting; which is kind of like asking lightning to strike twice.  Even the best developers can't hit a grand slam each and every time, but Levine's track record has been stellar and most gamers expected he could simply do it again.  He came damn close, but Infinite didn't have that certain je-na-sais-I-don't-know-what that his previous Shock games had.

Did we really expect another Irrational Bioshock? Bioshock 2 wasn't even done by Irrational. Didn't think they'd want to spend another how many years designing another Bioshock universe. I thought Infinite tied up the story nicely.

Levine has said as much in the past.  I can't find the article, but the gist of it was the Bioshock games take so long to develop, and realistically he could only do a few more games of that scope in his lifetime.  Definitely sounded like didn't want to continue going down that path.
