Heck just look at the different factions of the Empire, an Inquisitor and either some Witch Hunter or Daemon Hunters and you can make just about any Space Marine army fall to pieces. I understand that they are using the Marines as they are the most recognizable faction, and they are what GW is pushing to get folks in to 40k. Hopefully these are just placeholders and they are planning on using one of the subsets like the Black Templars or Dark Angels. It's not this would keep me from playing a good game, I'd just like to see something other than the regular ole Space Marine.

Damn, I didn't think about an Inquisitor.  That could make for a great game.  I loved the Eisenhorn and Ravenor series.

Being a huge fan of the 40k universe, I'm in on day one unless the early reviews are horrible.

Going by previous games it seems like if it isn't Dawn of War it's not really worth playing. I know that GW is using the Space Marines as their way to reach the masses with 40k, but c'mon, there are so many better forces than the space marines.

Back in the day, Chaos Gate was pretty good.  I think there was  an RTS that was based off of the Epic tabletop system that was pretty good too.  The one real stinker I can think of off the top of my head was Fire Warrior which was based on the Tau.

I agree that there are other forces that are pretty interesting as well but I don't know if they would lend themselves to a god of war style game.  I guess chaos marines would fit the bill but they are still marines.  Plus your right, Space Marines are the way that GW is marketing the universe.  I'd love to see a Battlefleet Gothic game but the chances of that are next to none.

I watched this one last week.  I found it uncomfortable to watch.  It was an interesting movie but depressing as hell.  I didn't know that it was based on Jake the Snake Roberts.   I'll have to check out the documentary.
125  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Would You Buy a house within 5 Miles of a Nuclear Power Plant? on: May 03, 2009, 01:44:41 PM
Although, I don't have any hard evidence to support my feelings but I wouldn't.  On the other hand, you already live close so I assume you are comfortable living in the area.  We have a plant about 30 miles from my house and that is close enough for me.  I'm worried about an accident as opposed to increase risk of cancer at this distance.
126  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Swine Flu Outbreak- the next big pandemic? on: April 27, 2009, 12:20:12 AM
We are well overdue for a pandemic.  I'm not too worried about this particular virus though.  While it is resistant to a couple of antiviral medications, it is still susceptible to Tamiflu.  Also, while we have infections in the USA, we've had no deaths. This is probably due to several reasons but it gives me hope that if the infections rise the death rate will be low.  No need to stock up on ammo and bottled water quite yet.  icon_biggrin

I got there when the store was opening and it had a line outside waiting.  I managed to pick up Infinite Undiscovery and Silent Hill: Homecoming for the 360 and Quantum of Solace, with a tshirt and Overlord: Raising Hell for the PS3. Not too bad for 40.00.

I'll drop by my local gameshop tonight and take a look at some 28mm figures to see if it's going to be too much for these old eyes/hands.

28mm isn't too bad on the eyes.  I started to paint up a 15mm Flames of War German force and it was pretty tough for me.  I think I painted a squad before putting it away and havent went back to it.
130  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: AE-WWII miniature. My first painted in 3 years on: April 23, 2009, 02:33:20 AM
I picked my AE-WWII starters up at a shop in Madison, Wisconsin when I was up there on business last summer.  I usually buy on line at http://www.thewarstore.com/ , https://www.scifigenre.com/index.aspx?sid=KW0X1SJMLVHU1NI , http://www.ccgarmory.com/ or http://www.miniaturemarket.com/home.  I've used the warstore the most and have been very pleased with them. The others I've only ordered from a couple of times each but have had no bad experiences with any of them.

Looks good! I bought the rulebook and two of the starter packs last summer.  I really enjoyed the storyline and background.  The minis are still in the packages. I may have to get them out and assemble a couple today since it's raining.  icon_smile

I played the first one.   It was basicly pin the target with one squad and send the other to flank.  Rinse and repeat.  I really didn't enjoy it much.

Dear NCS Customer,

Sony Hong Kong has not released the next batch of Demon's Souls yet but please note that Hong Kong businesses will be on their Easter holiday between April 10 to April 14. Due to the holiday, there will not be any news or shipments until after April 14. We will email our customers again once we receive an update but based on what distributors have told us last night, it may be another 1-2 weeks until the next production of the game is ready to ship. Thanks for your attention.

Regards,
NCSX Inc

I got the same email.  icon_frown  Oh well, guess I'll have a couple of weeks to get my backlog down.

Well, I just ordered it on Ebay.  Buy it now for $49.00, shipping is Priority Mail $4 from a seller in Texas, and I got $5.39 cashback.  So less than $50 total - not too shabby.

I guess what made me go for it was semi's comment:

"...yeah, if you love monster hunter, you'll love this..."

You got a good deal.   I'm still waiting for NCSX to ship mine.

I've enjoyed them both but I spent a lot more time playing COD4.   Maybe it was because it seemed somewhat fresh to play in a modern setting compared to the flood of WW2 games in recent years.

I'm probably more interested in Battleforge at the moment.  I'd bet Starcraft sells more than the other two combined though.  Heck it will probably sell more in Korea than the other two games worldwide sales total.  I'm kind of meh on Starcraft 2 at the moment but I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually.

*sigh*

I've been looking to get back into miniatures games and the hobby.  I was already planning to grab a few GW miniatures just to paint up, but now a friend and his cousin have already gotten into 40k so I'm going to have to pickup and army.  Normally I would buy from local stores but GW prices are so ridiculous I'll end up buying online from a discounter.

I'm torn between Orks, Eldar, Space Marines, and maybe even Imperial guard, in that order.  One friend is playing Eldar, another is playing Tau.

Anyone know if the Kill team rules are still supported?

Don't know about the kill team rules. They were in the 4th edition. I havent seen the new 5th edition yet.  I would say if your looking at Orks or Space Marines, the Assault on Black Reach box would be a good start for you. I think it is about 400-500 points of both, a mini rulebook and some templates. It looks like an awesome deal for $60.  You can get it from the warestore.com for 20% off as well.

During his quick interview after the game, he was asked what was going throug his mind when Fitzgerald was scoring on that long TD pass.  If this quote isn't word for word, I'm sorry but my brain shut down after I heard it

"I knew our defense would get us the ball back"...

Yes, yes they did, by allowing a 64 yard TD.

We've shopped online for Christmas for years now but this was the first year that the majority of our shopping was done there.  I used Amazon for almost everthing. Most items were cheaper on Amazon, I paid no sales tax so that saves 8% and with Prime I had no worries about it arriving on time.  I signed up for the free two week trial around the holidays and decided to keep it.  I'm sure my savings for the holidays alone paid for the memebership.  It was worth it to me and I was always a free supersaver shipping guy in the past.

I went into the circuit city by my office today over lunch.  Not much there that I couldn't get cheaper somewhere else even with the 10%.  !0% off wasn't enough to make me waste my lunch hour standing in line.  There were probably 50 people standing in line to check out with 2 employees at the service desk to handle it.  The funny thing is I've went in their tons of times and I've never seen more than 5 cars in the lot.  Today it was tough to find a parking place.

I second the War Store recommendation. Great place to order from. CCG armory is another good place to get a 20% discount on GW products.

157  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Will this be the beginning of the end of Blackwater? on: December 11, 2008, 04:15:21 AM
Not sure if they have that kind of resources to self fund an invasion of that size but I read somewhere that the CEO bragged that he could put a battalion sized infantry force anywhere in the world within a few days.  If I'm thinking right that would be around 1000-1500 troops. Scary that a private organization can field a private army of that size much less as a rapid reaction force. It would be possible to partner up with an existing "rebel" faction in a small country and pull off a coup d’état.

Blagojevich is a scumbag.  He has been under investigatiion for years for corruption.  There was an accusation that his daughter was given several thousand dollars as a birthday present a couple of years ago. The wife of the gift giver received some kind of goverment position a few months later.  I'm not sure if he still does this but he refused to live in the govenors mansion in Springfield. He lived in Chicago and flew down in a private jet being paid for by the taxpayers.  He created a prescription drug/health care program that was shot down in court.  He then refused to pay the pharmacies who provided the drugs to the patients covered under the plan for the medications that was dispensed.  I hope impeachment proceedings are about to begin. We sure know how to pick em in Illinois. The last guy in the offices is in prison.  icon_biggrin

I thought that speech was a great speech. I honestly like McCain. Wouldn't mind sharing a few beers with him, but I couldn't vote for him.

His speech was exactly what was needed. He spoke to the historical quality of the election, he spoke to his government service and to his love of country. He even mentioned Obama grandmother and how sad it was she had recently died and that he was sure how proud of him she would be.

A great speech.

You took the words out of my mouth.  I respect McCain for what he has accomlished and if he had won the Republican nomination in 2000 I would have voted for him.  I coudn't vote for him yesterday though.  I hope Obama has a successful presidency.
