Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Still 'tis the season apparently (credit/debit card fraud)

Be sure to triple check your statements. I was doing my weekly audit of my account, especially since i over-spent this year and I noticed 3 $1 debit card charges over the last 3 days. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but after losing $600 for a few days last year I'm not taking any chances.

Well, I just played through the first level with no problems (no pop or low res textures). Core i5 2300k (clocks itself up to 3.1 ghz when needed), 560 ti and 6gb ram.
Wonder if it will boil down to AMD/ATI having to issue a hotfix, or if it's something more serious.
Edit: After some reading around, it sounds like a problem I had with an old work pc. Creating color scans or editing scanned files with rastercad (until I could compress them) would cause the AV software on that pc to choke.
Makes me wonder if some of the people with texture streaming problems have AV software that is not correctly going into "game mode" and choking on the texture files when the game accesses them.
I'll also give a little more detail on my hardware, just in case it helps someone out,
Core i5 2300k, Gateway pc (don't make that face, it was cheaper than building my own this time...) Windows 7 64 bit 6gb ram Gigabyte 560ti, factory OC Logitech g700 mouse Eset Security (NOD 32) Steam/game installed on secondary hard drive

As far as the owner, he was outside and called after the dog, not that it listened. If the owner had still been outside when I passed back by we would have had a "nice" discussion. It would really suck (to me at least) if the dog had to pay for an irresponsible owner.
There is a general state-wide leash law, not sure who I would report it to. Our parish has an animal shelter, but I have never seen an animal control officer.
I did some google-fu and the best advice I saw was that if you had to dismount, keep your bike between you and the dog to block and use as a weapon if necessary. A lot of the biking forums suggested mace also.
As far as the dog itself, it chased me pretty far. I wish I could have identified what it was other than large and brown.
I guess "Pedal or die" would be easier on a 21 speed bike instead of the 7 speed version I have now.....

How do you resident bike riders handle aggressive dogs on your rides?
I started riding about 6 weeks ago due to my doctor telling me that I needed to lose weight and had my first mean dog come after me. The only thing I could think of was to out run it. I know that I fed into it's chase instinct, but It did work *this time*.
I was thinking of getting some mace. Since I'm not really the killing type except as a last resort (sorry DBT), I was just wondering what, if anything else short of a .22 pistol with ratshot might be effective.

Fair warning. I was looking up speculation on River Song, stumbled across a MAJOR SPOILER on the wikipedia page.
They don't warn you or anything and they give up a major plot point that will occur in an upcoming episode.

If you don't have any particular hatred for Dell, be sure to check their outlet site. I managed to find the spec I wanted and save a few $, but it was a refurb.

Will it boot into the basic safe mode (without network or anything else)? If it does, I would suggest downloading (from a clean pc) and run combofix on it.
Otherwise you could use a boot disk solution (like Hirens CD) and hope the tools on there can get the bug out.
One other possibility is if you can find a vista install cd that matches the license sticker that is on your laptop you can get to the command prompt through the F8 startup menu and run "sfc /scannow" . The sfc command will usually get it to where you can at least boot into the basic safe mode and run some cleanup tools from there.
Last option is to call the manufacturer and order new restore discs.

For those still playing Majesty 2, Steam has added 2 new dlc for it.
Monster Kingdom and Battles of Ardania.
Don't recall seeing it last week or this week. I finally just got past the very difficult "Pretender to the Throne" mission.

It's like a full orchestra today. The smoker is back after a week of family issues. He's quiet enough on his own, but the loud designer he works for isn't. The designer is giving a week of catch up talk and loves to go off on tangents (I could make a whole thread about that). Maybe I really just need to get some good meds the next time I go to the doctor. Well, enough whining from me today. This terminal strip won't draw itself....

The funny thing is that the other guy IS a smoker and he makes even less noise than I do. As far as the post count, I thought it was scored like golf...

I am close to it now. After some building moves, management moved a third guy into the space I'm in. He literally sniffles then chokes up stuff every 30-45 seconds. He's louder than my noise blocker headphones. AAARRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!

dang, posted this in the wrong thread. Quick copy and paste...... I've been gaming on my Samsung 50" plasma (after a proper break in period) since I won it 2 years ago. There is Zero burn in anywhere on it. To break one in properly takes about 24-36 hours of running non static images on it. In my case, I looped a full screen dvd overnight for 2 or 3 days after I got it. If you do go the plasma route, you will get what is called image retention if there is a static display on the screen. I usually see this after watching football games or after playing a game that has a hud in it. On my screen, it disappears in about 30 seconds. If you want more specific answers, I'll try to be as helpful as I can.

Before you go any further, or spend any money on a new power supply, take the side off of the case and check for any blown or bulging capacitors.
Not saying this is your problem, but I had a pc on the workbench acting that way and that was the cause.

I've seen first hand, the hidden cost of "free" music. I started a new job in a pc repair store about 2 months ago, and almost every virus riddled pc I have the pleasure of cleaning has music/video file sharing programs and usually full of infected mp3's.
I know most of you on the site are knowledgeable enough to fix stuff that and realize it's an at your own risk kind of thing. It kind of kills me when an older customer that can barely turn on a pc comes in the store and you know it was their children or grandchildren basically taking advantage of them.
The typical cost of their free music is in the $100-$150 range depending on what I have to do to clean up afterwards. $150 buys a whole lot of music from amazon/itunes.

I can see it now. Earth's last stand against a never ending horde of alien attackers is at the asteroid belt. They keep swarming around and fighting the aliens through the asteroids, but our guys are just too smart for them since we can think 3 dimensionally. If the producers can convince Adm. Adama (EJO) to star in it, I might actually go see it.

I'm not an electrical engineer either, but I'm an instrumentation drafter that works around them all day.
If the washing machine checks out ok, I would bet that it is a bad circuit breaker. I would think the actual wiring would be ok since it lasted for 3+ years, but the only way to know for sure is to get an electrician out there to check for damaged or undersized wiring.
Changing a breaker is semi-easy, so if that is the problem, it shouldn't cost you much to get a qualified electrician to replace it, just be sure it's replaced with one of the exact same rating as the original.

Wow. I was just listening to "Self-Esteem" the other day. I didn't realize people live that. Sorry man.
Well, in my defense, it is the first time I've even talked to her in over a year. I must admit that I do feel sorry for what life has handed her, but I'm also glad that I don't have to deal with all that drama on a daily basis anymore. Not like I plan on going back to her at any time. And to keep in the spirit of the thread (hope I'm allowed 2 in a day ). I picked up "Weight control" oatmeal instead of regular. This stuff tastes like garbage.

I let my ex-girlfriend talk me into picking up dinner for her last night, and driving it out to the chem plant she works at.
The same one that acts like she hates me when I'm there, but can't live without me after I'm gone.

You could try requesting it on Goozex. It is showing up as available for now for 400 points. They have every game I've ever heard of listed on there. If you want it fast, you can buy points and trade credits. Great way to get rid of some of your unwanted games too. www.goozex.com

Gee, thanks Hiccup!! How about this one, from a friend at the office. He told me the third one after a couple minutes, made it a little funnier. How do you get an elephant into an icebox? you open the door and stick him in. How do you get a zebra into an icebox? There was a huge jungle. The Lion, the King of the jungle decided to throw a huge party and invited all the animals from all over to eat, drink and be merry. Who was upset?
