Most telling about the Lucic hit was the total lack of response by the Sabres. They just kind of shrugged their shoulders and kept playing. Then Boston scored 6 goals on them and they still didn't seem to care.

Yep no WRs. They definitely do not have a WR leading the league in receiving yards.

What draft you tralking about?

Next year's? Bruins have the #2 pick right now, I need to get informed!

At least this year the Fishsticks were smart enough to sign a zillion goalies.

In other news, there's a disappointing lack of Bruins' fan angst after their slow start. I guess a week before the "fire Julien" threads start appearing on hfboards.

So is this the thread where Devil acknowledges it's been zero years since the Bruins last won the Cup?

Uh... he had 39 goals the season he asked to be traded.  I mean yeah it was a 'down' year for Heatley, but I don't think you could call it a bad season.

I guess it depends what you mean by a bad season. In 08-09 Heatley scored his lowest goal total since his rookie year (points too). He had more goals and points in the previous season despite playing 10 fewer games. Ottawa had gone from 2nd in the division the season before to out of the playoffs in 08-09 and made a coaching change. I would personally call that a bad season.
131  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NHL Off Season 2011 on: July 05, 2011, 04:36:21 PM
You don't dump someone of Heatley's caliber unless there's some other problems going on, especially since his crappy numbers can be explained by multiple injuries.

Heatley has shown twice before that he would rather run away than try and deal with his circumstances and get better. He asked for a trade from Ottawa after a bad season despite being only one year into a six year contract. He had another terrible season this year and probably wanted to run away again.
132  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NHL Off Season 2011 on: July 05, 2011, 04:06:02 PM
Heatley is a better player, but he was also a cancer in that locker room. The Sharks needed to dump him.

Christian Ehrhoff signs with Buffalo for 10 years, $4M per average. icon_eek

The first two years are at $9M per.

Paul Kariya retires due to symptoms from multiple concussions. I was always a fan of his from his UMaine days. I forgot he won the Hobey Baker as a freshman.

Depends on his personality.  I'd rather live in the suburbs of Detroit (which is where its sports players live, not the city) over NYC, LA, Chicago, or any other big city every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I wonder if any athlete lives in the actual city...maybe only in NY?

A good portion of the Bruins players live in Boston. I know Ference and Chara live in the same building within walking distance of TD Garden.

Unrelated, but sounds like Kaberle is going to test the market. I don't see Boston bringing him back for anything over 2.5M and I'm sure he can get closer to 4 from another team. So in the end I would say Toronto won that trade since Kaberle was a 5/6 defenseman at best while on the Bruins, but they won the Cup so no one really cares.
136  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Recommend me a programming language on: June 24, 2011, 05:02:20 AM
C# is a good language to start with if you want to do GUI stuff. Visual Studio is actually pretty good when it comes to the "visual" part. You can do that same stuff in VB, but VB is the devil.

Another nice thing about C# is that it is very syntactically similar to Java, so you could pick that up easily (if you wanted to) once you got comfortable with C#.
137  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NHL Off Season 2011 on: June 24, 2011, 03:48:26 AM
Not surprised Carter got shipped, pretty surprised Richards did. He must've done something to piss off management, or maybe Philly just wants to build around Giroux and JVR. The money is right on the Bryz contract, but 9 years? Yowza. I would never sign a goalie past 4 years, 5 tops.

Bruins are going to have a very quiet off-season. Biggest issue is re-signing RFA Marchand and maybe re-signing Ryder and Kaberle if the money's right. Other than that I don't see them doing anything.

Has any Stanley Cup Finalist ever been so consistently shellacked at away games?  Vancouver is lucky they have home ice advantage.  At least the ticket buyers aren't going home disappointed in this series.

This is definitely the weirdest playoff series I can remember.

Nope. Giguere won it that year he went nuts, even though New Jersey won the Cup. Devil thought it was a very nice gesture.

Agreed. If the Canucks want to win, they need to play a solid, boring game. Don't be chippy, don't piss off the other team, don't try to be tough. Boston thrives on that stuff.

The Bruins have the momentum, but the Canucks get to play the next one at home. There's still a lot of hockey to be played.

I guess center ice hits aren't legal if someone on Boston gets knocked around when the idiot keeps his head down.   Roll Eyes

Blindside hit targeting the head. That's a penalty under the new rule. Not sure why they called it elbowing.

Krejci does need to keep his head up.

Edit: looks like I was mistaken. You can't call a minor penalty on those hits, only majors, so refs did get it wrong:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=64063

I do agree it was not a blindside hit. Bergeron hit him straight on the way Krejci was skating.

I will agree it's not a blindside hit. Bergeron hit him straight on the way Krejci was skating.

Yeah.  They got it way wrong.  If Bergeron's shoulder is hitting Krejci square in the chest - which it did - it's not a "blindside" hit.  The only reason there is head contact is Krejci was an idiot not looking.  I defy anyone to call that blindside.  Blindside would have been Bergeron hitting him from behind and not getting in front to ensure the contact was from the front.

I think you need to put on your glasses or something if you think that was square in the chest. First point of contact was clearly the head:

Sorry, who's Seguin? Is he a prospect? Can't say I've heard of him.

Tyler Seguin is a rookie Center for the Bruins.  2nd overall pick in the 2010 draft.  He had a so-so regular season - 11 G 11 A in 74 games.  The series vs Tampa Bay is his first playoff action.  Game 1  - Goal and Assist (Boychuck got the other goal in game 1).  Game 2 - 2 Goals and 2 Assists.  Looks like he fits right in and should have been playing sooner.

He is basically playing because Patrice Bergeron is out.  If Bergeron is healthy, it raises the question of who sits?

He was being facetious. Remember that second overall pick came from Toronto in the Kessel trade. Most Leafs fans just choose to ignore that trade happened at this point.

But not to worry because they'll most likely have Kaberle back next year.

More like Seguin can score at will. eek

That being said, Bolts have had like 3 breakaways and umpteen other high-quality chances. I wouldn't be surprised if they scored at least 3 in the third.
